Bringing some A-list glamour to Malibu, Julia Roberts hit the beach for a photoshoot on Tuesday (January 28).
The "August: Osage County" star looked gorgeous in a black tiered gown as she carefully walked near the shore.
Recently, the 46-year-old actress spoke about aging in Hollywood, sharing, "I have this older female peer group now, and among them are women who just shine and have this spark. They radiate a kind of beauty that?s not contrived in any way, but comes from understanding who they are and what their purpose is. That is true beauty and it?s something I strive for.?
Content with where she is now, Julia added, "If I?m not wiser now than I was in my twenties, I?d have to be drooling. Though maybe wiser isn?t the right word ? let?s just say I?m happy, contented and grateful.?

| Julia Roberts in a pink Valentino jumpsuit at the SAGs: cute or terrible? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I loathed Julia Roberts? Valentino jumpsuit. Like, I think this was the SAG look that I hated the most. It wasn?t just that I thought it was unflattering or that I felt sorry for her, which would be my reaction if someone else wore this. I actively hated this on Julia and I hated her a little for choosing it. She?s 46 years old and she chose a bubble-gum-pink Halston-esque jumpsuit?!? It was the wrong style for her body, the color was cloying and way too cutesy and it just did not look good on her at all. She tried to save it with some light, attractive styling, but it just didn?t work. HATED it. Ugh. It was like she watched American Hustle and thought, ?I could do THAT.? Also: I love that Julia keeps losing. But I?ll give her some credit: she?s a gracious loser, for real. She manages to look genuinely happy when Lupita wins. I think Julia will be fine if she loses to Lupita. Julia will not be fine if she loses to Jennifer Lawrence.
And once again, I loved another Oprah look at an awards show. Whoever?s styling Oprah these days is doing a bang-up job, right? Oprah wore this rich purple Badgley Mischka gown which flattered her figure really well. I loved the gigantic brooch too.
And here?s a little Liza Minnelli, just because. It was like she needed people to carry her in.

Never one to miss out on an industry event, Julia Roberts got all gussied up and headed over to the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles for the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards earlier tonight (January 18).
All decked out and primped to perfection, the "August: Osage County" starlet smiled for the cameras and mingled with fellow famous folks before strolling inside to find her seat.
In addition to the usual categories, one of tonight?s big winners is Rita Moreno, who will receive the SAG 50th Life Achievement Award from presenter Morgan Freeman.
Meanwhile, the nominees for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role are Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tom Hanks, Matthew McConaughey, Forest Whitaker and Bruce Dern.

| Julia Roberts & Meryl Streep: who was the best-dressed at the Critics Choice? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts lost in their respective categories, Best Actress and Best Supporting. But they still showed up, so I guess we should give them some credit. Although I will say this? posing on red carpets wearing sunglasses? NO. Only Jack Nicholson can get away with that, and even then, he rarely walks a red carpet.
Let?s talk about Julia first. She wore this Juan Carlos Obando which? I?m not really feeling. I like the cut of the gown a lot ? it flattered Julia?s body and it made me wonder if she got some boob work done (they look bigger and higher). But the fabric is off. I kind of wonder if this might have been an opportunity for a bolder print, right? She?s a big, tall woman and she could have worked a big, major print.
As for Meryl, she wore this incredibly unflattering Stella McCartney. Is there any other kind of Stella dress? I understand the urge to wear a shorter, cocktail-style dress to the Critics Choice, but don?t go with Stella. The cut is terrible, the sleeves are ridiculous and that bejeweled accent is a disaster.
Speaking of Meryl? have you heard about her next project with Harvey Weinstein? When Harvey sat down with Howard Stern earlier this week, he teased a new film he?ll be producing called The Senator?s Wife. Harvey went a bit power-mad when describing it, saying: ?I?m going to make a movie with Meryl Streep, and we?re going to take [gun rights] head-on. And [the NRA is] going to wish they weren?t alive after I?m done with them.?

Santa Monica was a little hotter tonight (January 16) as the 19th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards brought stars like Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep to town.
Sporting some killer threads, the ?August:Osage County? stars turned heads as they made their arrival at Barker Hangar and smiled for the cameras.
Tinseltown has upped the ante for 2014, as there?s an overabundance of deserving actors, actresses, production teams and films up for consideration.
The Best Actress nominees include Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Judi Dench, Brie Larson, Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson, while Christian Bale, Bruce Dern, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tom Hanks, Matthew McConaughey and Robert Redford are all up for Best Actor.

| Julia Roberts on social media: 'It's like screaming into the wind, I just don't get it' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

There?s something charmingly/annoyingly antiquated about Julia Roberts. She?s charming because she really doesn?t give a flying f?k and there?s a complicit understanding that everyone in the cheap seats can say whatever they want about her and she?s fine with it because she?s a damn movie star and movie stars don?t have to care what the peasants say or think. The annoying part? Sometimes that comes across as smug and self-satisfied when really she?s just a throw-back, some movie star from a different era (and, to be fair, she?s pretty smug too). Anyway, I was reminded of this Julia Conundrum when I was reading her thoughts on social media:
If you’re waiting for Julia Roberts to get on Twitter, don’t hold your breath. During a press interview for her film August: Osage County, the A-lister explained why she won’t be joining any social media networks anytime soon.
“Well, I haven’t chosen to not be a part of it. I kind of just don’t get it,” she said when asked why she’s steered clear of certain sites.
“See that’s the thing I don’t get. It’s like screaming into the wind. I guess I just don’t get it. If somebody has a grievance with me, or if it’s a friend or somebody has been misinformed or misunderstood, I would go to them directly,” she added.
“There’s a directness that I miss and the idea of Internet or Twitter?I picture Twitter on a pager which I know is also antiquated, I don’t know where you Twitter!”
On a pager?! Julia, we love you. Don’t ever change. Keep playing snake on your Nokia 3310.
“There’s just a lack of human connection to all of it and that doesn’t appeal to me,” she said during the interview.
But the Oscar winner isn’t completely against websites like Twitter or Facebook, they’re just not for her. She added that she recognizes that social media can be amazing and even help people.
“It makes people feel connected and it brings people together and does all these awesome things, but for me, I like to look at somebody and have more tangible connections. That’s what I as a person am invested in.”
[From E! News]
?It’s like screaming into the wind?? Part of me sort of agrees with her, and the fact that I?m agreeing with Julia Roberts upsets me. So much of social media is just a stupid time-suck, an inventory and management of nothingness. But I do enjoy how Julia tries to make it sound like she?s so holier-than-thou when really she?s just a technological Luddite, like so many people past a certain age. *shakes fist at cloud*

| Julia Roberts versus Taylor Swift: who was worst dressed at the Globes? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Surprisingly, one of my most controversial tweets last night was NOT the one where I called Leonardo DiCaprio an ?old whore? (he is, btw). No, the tweet that garnered the most yelling was one where I said I didn?t really hate what Julia Roberts was wearing. And you know what? I still don?t. GO AHEAD AND YELL. Was it the best thing she?s ever worn? Of course not. But I?m old-school ? I don?t consider Julia to be any kind of fashion icon, nor is she one of my annual Ones to Watch on any given red carpet. Julia, as I?m sure she will tell you, has more important things to do than care about fashion. So for a woman who doesn?t give a crap, this Dolce & Gabbana look was okay. Not great, but not awful.
What would have been a boring black column dress was given some life with the addition of a white blouse underneath (and I think the blouse is actually some sort of Evening Dickie). Was the sparkly belt confusing? Yes. Was her beehive dated? Of course. But considering all of the terrible hair and awful styling last night, Julia?s whole look was far from the worst.
Julia was at her patronizing best on the red carpet too, she practically shoved Taylor Swift out of the way. I have to wonder? is Taylor Swift?s future as some kind of Julia? Deep thoughts. Anyway, Swifty wore this horrendous Carolina Herrera gown which? ugh. She might have felt princess-y in it, but it did not photograph well at all. It looked so cheap and just like a prom dress she would have gotten at the mall. There was some sort of ?hidden bustle? too which made it look like she had a butt tumor. Also: HAPPY DAYS because Taylor Swift and Julia both lost their awards. And Taylor got some serious shade from Tina Fey on stage. All in all, it was a great night to be a Hater.

| Julia Roberts versus Lupita Nyong?o: who looked prettier in Palm Springs? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
I already covered many of the (hot) dudes who traveled to Palm Springs this weekend for the International Film Festival, so now here are the ladies. Some of the ladies. As you can imagine, whenever Julia Roberts deigns to come to town, the town must become ALL JULIA, GIVE ALL THE ATTENTION TO JULIA. So Julia is our headliner lady. Julia wore this animal-print Gucci which is just a fancy sack dress really. Julia tends to eschew tighter clothes these days, so if it had to be a sack dress? this one isn?t so bad. It would have been a much cleaner look without that tacky gold crap on the sleeves and on the hem though.
But really, wouldn?t you rather talk about Lupita Nyong?o? I would. Lupita and Julia are going to be up against each other in the Best Supporting Actress category at every award show this year. I want Lupita to clean Julia?s clock, don?t you? Lupita wore this Elie Saab dress which is? okay. It?s feminine and pretty and she looks stunning in pink. Here?s another thing: if you ever want to feel horrible about yourself, just stare at this close-up of Lupita?s face for a few minutes. (PS? that guy is Lupita?s brother!)
More photos? Amy Adams in a Juan Carlos Obando Spring 2014 gown with polka dots. I?m not feeling the polka dots, but it?s an okay dress and I?m glad she didn?t wear it to a major awards show. My biggest problem? Amy needs to stop with the center parts. In fact, I would argue that she needs to stop doing tight, pulled-back hairstyles altogether.
And finally, Meryl Streep looking jazzy in black. Love her so hard. Meryl and Julia didn?t pose together on the carpet either, which just adds some fuel to my ?Julia and Meryl really aren?t that tight? fire.

| Julia Roberts got pap?d in Malibu with her husband & kids: movie promotion? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
Here are some newish photos of Julia Roberts and her family out and about in Malibu a few days ago. It?s funny how Julia and her family can go months ? years! ? without getting pap?d at all, and then, when she has a movie coming out on Christmas, suddenly there are nice family photos available, right? Anyway, we hardly ever see Julia?s kids, how old are the twins? Phinnaeus and Hazel Moder are? 9 years old. The littlest one, Henry, is 6 years old. Henry seems to be in the sidecar/wagon thing attached to Danny Moder?s bike.
Anyway, since the whole point of this is to promote August: Osage County and The Return of Julia, let?s discuss Julia?s recent interview with Refinery 29 ? you can read the full piece here, and here are some highlights:
Getting to know her costars: “We spent a lot of time together and getting to know each other. We didn?t know each other at all when it started, and by the time that we began filming, I felt very familiar and entangled with these girls in way that seemed correct for sisters, and had made just enough happy experiences with them and had a couple of appropriate sisterly like, ‘really, that?s what you?re wearing?’ kind of moments where I felt like it was all going to fall into place.”
Preparing for her role: “I guess some people write diaries or backstories ? I liken it to channeling. Just kidding ? but kind of not kidding. But, no, I feel like when I first read this script my heart just swelled and I completely understood everything about the character. What one is not proud of is all relative. What she is not proud of could be nothing to someone else. People?s pain is so individual. But, I feel like as an actor, to be in touch with all those emotions of shame, anger, your lust, your joy, those are sort of like your watercolors?and, Tracy Letts, his writing, I was so floored. You?ve seen the state of cinema today. This was something that comes once in a while. His characters are so strong. They just leap off the page. I understood Karen and her delusion and denial and all those things.”
Is Julia a realist? “I?m always struggling between being a realist or an idealist. Somebody said you can be both, but it depends.”
She loves Dermot Mulroney: “I would like to speak about Dermot. Dermot and I have been friends since My Best Friend?s Wedding. We became great pals then, and when he called me that he had gotten a part in this, we squealed like little girls, both of us, and were so excited for each other and to be back together. And, with everybody, but in particularly Dermot, even when he had a day off, would come run lines with me before I went to work at six o?clock in the morning, which he traded for a cup of coffee. And, just the whole time feeling so supported by my old friend. He would come to work and watch scenes that I was in and just kind of support me in that way. It was beautiful to have each other in that way, especially when we were all away from our families and forging new relationships. It was just nice to have my rock steady there. It was great.”
On Meryl: “We hugged a lot. I always had to look her right in the eye before we parted ways. We?re all good? Just kidding, right?”
[From Refinery 29]
I still feel like there?s something shady between Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. Perhaps that?s wishful thinking, or maybe? maybe they just didn?t care for each other that much. Maybe Meryl is pissed off because Julia had the film re-edited to include more JULIA. Or maybe they?re just saving all of the kissy-touchy ?girlfriends forever? stuff for later on in their respective Oscar campaigns. We?ll see.
As for Julia?s friendship with Dermot ? I remember when Dermot and his then-wife Catherine Keener were BFFs with all of the A-listers. After Dermot and Catherine split, it did feel like they split up their A-list friends a bit too. I think Catherine got Brad Pitt and Dermot must have gotten Julia. I also think it?s interesting that in a cast with so many women (Meryl, Margo Martindale, Julianne Nicholson, Juliette Lewis), Julia still gravitated towards a dude. Because deep down, I?ve always thought (and I really believe this) Julia is not a woman who plays well with other women.

| Julia Roberts: 'It should be as difficult to get married as it is to get a driver's license' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Julia Roberts is a star from another age. Julia is perhaps one of the last old-school movie stars, the kind of movie star that never had to get a Twitter account or a Facebook page to interact with fans. Julia doesn?t want to interact with you. She?s above you and she would never dream of interacting with you, especially not on social media. Julia became famous and maintained her fame in the late 80s and throughout the 90s, before blogs and Twitter and such. She kept the few tabloids in print back then, and she was the biggest thing around. In the aughts, Julia began taking a step back from her movie star throne ? she began spending most of her time in New Mexico, she got married and had her babies, and she didn?t work that much. But when she did work, she expected people to treat her like she was still the biggest movie star around, and they did for the most part.
But nowadays? is Julia still a big deal? In her mind, she?s still a big deal, I?m sure. But I think the affection people had for her two decades ago has largely faded. Sure, people in her industry still love her ? Julia just scored a SAG and a Globe nomination, after all. But I?m not sure the rest of us really care that much. Is this what Julia wanted all along? Or does she have regrets about her faded star power? Julia recently spoke to In Touch about how ?great? it is that reality stars are all the rage now:
Julia Roberts is one of the biggest movie stars in the world ? but she values her privacy and prefers to stay out of the public eye. The mother of three admits to In Touch that she is thankful for over-the-top TV families like the Kardashians.
?As a film actor, I?m [only] inviting people to pay attention to my characters. But if you?re a reality star, by virtue you are asking and inviting people to pay attention to you,? Julia explains in the new issue of In Touch, on newsstands now. ?It?s great because they take that attention away from me.?
She hasn?t ever watched an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, but hasn?t ruled it out just yet. ?I think there?s still time,? Julia jokes with In Touch of the famous family?s long-running reality show. ?They?re still on TV, aren?t they??
The actress also reveals that reality TV is one of her guilty pleasures! ?I love Project Runway because I love to sew,? the actress admits to In Touch. ?I?ve also seen Housewives a little bit.?
[From In Touch Weekly]
I?m trying to decide if Julia was shade-baiting. ?They?re still on TV, aren?t they?? Like she doesn?t know! Like she doesn?t have an opinion on Lucifer?s Homegirl! Anyway, do you think Julia IS happy that reality stars get all the attention now? Or is she a little bit like? ?Whoa, I?m not a big deal anymore?? I?m not even sure she?s self-aware enough to even consider that she?s not a big deal anymore though.
Also, Julia has some thoughts about marriage:
Julia Roberts and her husband of 11 years, Danny Moder, have defied the odds of Hollywood romances, but the Pretty Woman actress reveals to Life & Style that marriage should be for anyone ? gay or straight.
?I believe in marriage for everybody,? Julia explains to Life & Style, on newsstands now.
?It should be as difficult to get married as it is to get a driver?s license,? she jokes to the mag. ?Less people would get married.?
She adds every marriage has its own secret to success and happiness. So what is Julia and Danny?s secret to wedded bliss?
?Making out every day!? she admits to Life & Style. ?Think about it!?
[From Life & Style]
What do you have to do to get married in most states? You have to go get a marriage license and you have to get some kind of registered minister or what have you to officiate your wedding. Which? sounds like more drama than getting a driver?s license, to me at least. Julia makes it sound like ?getting a driver?s license? is the hardest thing ever. Maybe she?s talking about the driving test? Julia thinks people should have to take tests before they?re allowed to get married? Er? no bueno.
