| Julia Roberts: 'It should be as difficult to get married as it is to get a driver's license' | Added 11 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Julia Roberts is a star from another age. Julia is perhaps one of the last old-school movie stars, the kind of movie star that never had to get a Twitter account or a Facebook page to interact with fans. Julia doesn?t want to interact with you. She?s above you and she would never dream of interacting with you, especially not on social media. Julia became famous and maintained her fame in the late 80s and throughout the 90s, before blogs and Twitter and such. She kept the few tabloids in print back then, and she was the biggest thing around. In the aughts, Julia began taking a step back from her movie star throne ? she began spending most of her time in New Mexico, she got married and had her babies, and she didn?t work that much. But when she did work, she expected people to treat her like she was still the biggest movie star around, and they did for the most part.
But nowadays? is Julia still a big deal? In her mind, she?s still a big deal, I?m sure. But I think the affection people had for her two decades ago has largely faded. Sure, people in her industry still love her ? Julia just scored a SAG and a Globe nomination, after all. But I?m not sure the rest of us really care that much. Is this what Julia wanted all along? Or does she have regrets about her faded star power? Julia recently spoke to In Touch about how ?great? it is that reality stars are all the rage now:
Julia Roberts is one of the biggest movie stars in the world ? but she values her privacy and prefers to stay out of the public eye. The mother of three admits to In Touch that she is thankful for over-the-top TV families like the Kardashians.
?As a film actor, I?m [only] inviting people to pay attention to my characters. But if you?re a reality star, by virtue you are asking and inviting people to pay attention to you,? Julia explains in the new issue of In Touch, on newsstands now. ?It?s great because they take that attention away from me.?
She hasn?t ever watched an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, but hasn?t ruled it out just yet. ?I think there?s still time,? Julia jokes with In Touch of the famous family?s long-running reality show. ?They?re still on TV, aren?t they??
The actress also reveals that reality TV is one of her guilty pleasures! ?I love Project Runway because I love to sew,? the actress admits to In Touch. ?I?ve also seen Housewives a little bit.?
[From In Touch Weekly]
I?m trying to decide if Julia was shade-baiting. ?They?re still on TV, aren?t they?? Like she doesn?t know! Like she doesn?t have an opinion on Lucifer?s Homegirl! Anyway, do you think Julia IS happy that reality stars get all the attention now? Or is she a little bit like? ?Whoa, I?m not a big deal anymore?? I?m not even sure she?s self-aware enough to even consider that she?s not a big deal anymore though.
Also, Julia has some thoughts about marriage:
Julia Roberts and her husband of 11 years, Danny Moder, have defied the odds of Hollywood romances, but the Pretty Woman actress reveals to Life & Style that marriage should be for anyone ? gay or straight.
?I believe in marriage for everybody,? Julia explains to Life & Style, on newsstands now.
?It should be as difficult to get married as it is to get a driver?s license,? she jokes to the mag. ?Less people would get married.?
She adds every marriage has its own secret to success and happiness. So what is Julia and Danny?s secret to wedded bliss?
?Making out every day!? she admits to Life & Style. ?Think about it!?
[From Life & Style]
What do you have to do to get married in most states? You have to go get a marriage license and you have to get some kind of registered minister or what have you to officiate your wedding. Which? sounds like more drama than getting a driver?s license, to me at least. Julia makes it sound like ?getting a driver?s license? is the hardest thing ever. Maybe she?s talking about the driving test? Julia thinks people should have to take tests before they?re allowed to get married? Er? no bueno.

| Julia Roberts in Givenchy at the 'Osage' LA premiere: unflattering or hot' | Added 11 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some photos from last night?s LA premiere of August: Osage County. The premiere lacked Benedict Cumberbatch, which was fine because at long last, Meryl Streep showed up to support the film. Meryl has been largely Hemsworth-ing this film, even though she?s getting wall-to-wall critical praise and she?s a shoo-in for yet another Best Actress Oscar nomination. So? why has Meryl been largely absent? Cough. I have no idea. Cough. By the way, Julia Roberts looked awful last night! Julia wore head-to-toe Givenchy. LOL. Riccardo Tisci is one passive-aggressive bitch, isn?t he?
More photos? Abigail Breslin in a really unflattering striped gown. NO.
I like Julianne Nicholson a lot, but she has not been bringing it to the red carpet. This dress is just? blah.
Hello, Ewan Mcgregor. You look hot despite your hair.
Juliette Lewis in Monique Lhuillier Resort 2014. Good God. This is WAY too much. She looks like a deranged bridesmaid.

| Julia Roberts, 'not pregnant' in purple Proenza Schouler: cute or too summery' | Added 11 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some new photos of Julia Roberts last night in NYC. She wore the purple Proenza Schouler dress to the NYC premiere of August: Osage County, and she wore the grey and black Stella McCartney coat to The Late Show with David Letterman. Can we just take a moment to discuss how weird it is that Julia wore the Proenza Schouler to a NYC premiere in December? I would be side-eyeing this choice if it was an LA premiere too ? it?s just too summery in general ? but it?s flat-out insane that she wore this in NYC! That being said, it?s a cute dress and it?s interesting to see Julia in something so short and figure-enhancing. She?s been wearing a lot of sack dresses recently, so this is a new look for her.
Speaking of sack dresses and clothing that makes her look pregnant (side-eye at that McCartney coat), several days ago TMZ had some photos of Julia and they started Bump Watching her. It was sort of rude (and I?m saying that as someone who doesn?t even like her that much) because? well, Julia?s had three babies and she?s 46. A pregnancy wouldn?t have been completely impossible, but at some point the tabloids and the gossip sites need to stop screaming ?BUMP WATCH? on people that have just eaten pasta for lunch. Anyway, when Julia appeared on The Late Show last night, Dave asked her if she was knocked up and she said no. Done. Here are some cute videos of her appearance ? Dave showered her in flowers:
Very cute. Dave just loves her so much. To be fair though, Julia doesn?t do interviews with anyone who doesn?t grovel at her feet.
Speaking of? where?s Meryl Streep? Meryl was not at the NYC premiere of Osage County and Meryl has been largely absent from the promotional tour thus far. The film doesn?t come out until Christmas and it?s possible Meryl is going to wait to do the big promotional push in January, but it still seems weird, right? Meryl is Chris Hemsworthing this promotional tour, and I kind of wonder if those stories about Meryl?s annoyance with Julia were dead on the money. Both Meryl and Julia scored SAG and Globe nominations this week though, so they?ll have to play nice at the awards shows. It should be a hotbed of girl drama, I?m sure.

She?s been busy plugging her new movie ?August: Osage County,? and last night (December 12) Julia Roberts stopped by ?The Late Show with David Letterman? for a quick chat.
The ?Pretty Woman? actress was in great spirits as she talked with her old friend Letterman, and it didn?t? take long for the recent baby rumors to come up.
Julia began by giving an update on her kids- twin nine-year-olds Phinnaeus and Hazel and six-year-old Henry- as they prepare for Christmas.
?Have you thought about adding more to the group?? asked Letterman. ?Oh, sure,? Julia fired back. David persisted, ?Any chance?? And Roberts simply answered, ?Ah, no!?

Dutifully promoting her latest film, Julia Roberts stopped by the "Late Show with David Letterman" on Thursday (December 12).
The 46-year-old actress covered up in chilly NYC in a black and gray coat over her short dress while carrying a pretty Theodora & Callum Joyful Heart Scarf.
Inside, Julia chatted about her film "August: Osage County" in which she portrays one of the strong-willed women of the Weston family who reunite at the Oklahoma house in which they grew up.
Directed by John Wells and co-starring Meryl Streep, Ewan Mcgregor, Abigail Breslin, and Juliette Lewis, "August: Osage County" hits theaters on Christmas Day.

| Julia Roberts thinks Jennifer Lawrence is 'too cool' to be America's Sweetheart | Added 11 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

As I said in the earlier THR Actress Roundtable post, I was surprised that Julia Roberts hasn?t been a bigger tool in interviews. Don?t get me wrong, she had some subtle shade for Amy Adams during the roundtable and Julia was annoying in general, but I was surprised that she didn?t completely dominate the conversation and make it into The Julia Show: Julia Talks About JULIA Because No One Else Matters. Fortunately for us, it?s a long awards season and there are many interviews to choose from. Julia sat down with MTV?s Josh Horowitz to promote August: Osage County and Josh asked her about ?the newest member? of the America?s Sweetheart Club, Jennifer Lawrence. Julia?s reaction is? amazing.

| Julia Roberts: 'Listen, every actor wants to win an Oscar, full stop' | Added 11 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I can?t even tell you how excited I am about Julia Roberts? Oscar campaign this awards season. You guys, it?s going to be good. Julia is always good for press/gossip, but we have the added bonus of it being Julia versus Meryl Streep. So far, Meryl has not been playing. Meryl avoided Toronto like the plague (Meryl was allegedly ?sick?) and Julia has been doing early appearances where she?s been the biggest thing ever, a legend in her own mind. But that sh-t is going to come to a grinding halt when Harvey Weinstein doubles-down on his strategy to put Meryl up for Best Actress and Julia up for Supporting. We?ll see, Julia. We?ll see.
But for now, Julia is basking in the attention. She covers the new issue of Marie Claire to promote August: Osage County, and there are some very ?interesting? moments. You can read the full piece here and here are some highlights:
Having a physical, on-screen fight with Meryl Streep: “I tell you, Meryl’s strong! And I could not get the pills out of her hand. I’m just thankful I didn’t hurt her.” (The two later sent a photo of the scene to their mutual friend, director Mike Nichols, “for his birthday, with me choking her, like fighting over him. And of course,” Roberts hoots with laughter, “Meryl found her light.”)
On Meryl: “I had many imaginary conversations with Meryl about working together. One night we did a play together at Lincoln Center for Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camp fundraiser. When a person goes from being on a pedestal in your mind to even cooler, better, and more fabulous up close, you get to understand them a little more intimately.” But how did the two end up doing a film together? “We have the same agent, Kevin Huvane, and it was his dream. As my career is slowing down, he thought, I’ve got to figure this out before she brings it all to a screeching halt in favor of car pools.”
She still thinks she?ll have more Great Roles: “I think the reason why I’ve been able to enjoy my career is that I always knew, for some reason?even when it was about getting a job to pay your bills and stuff?I always knew that it will surface, it will come. The things that are correct for me will come to me at the time that I am interested in them and have the capacity, the understanding, to do them. When I miss out on a part, I can be bummed I didn’t get it, but then I see who got it, and I think, Oh, well.”
Her advice to young actresses: “Good luck, darling.” And she laughs again.
On social media: “It’s not the same business. It’s really different. And the Internet has so much to do with that.” No surprise she’s not on social media?”It’s kind of like cotton candy: It looks so appealing and you just can’t resist getting in there, and then you just end up with sticky fingers and it lasted an instant”?or that she never Googles herself: “I have too much potential for collapse.” She elaborates: “There’s an anonymity that makes people feel safe to participate in hatefulness. I like a good old-fashioned fistfight if people are pissed off at each other. I just feel like if you’re really mad and want to have a fight, then put your dukes up.”
Hillary Clinton is a hero: “I had interviewed Hillary Clinton [for OWN], who has become a personal hero to me?who she is and her convictions as a woman and mother and a humanitarian. She let me sit in on a meeting as a fly on the wall, but I’m a person who can’t not say anything for too long. It’s about women taking care of their families and what an incredible challenge it is for a myriad of reasons, and how fixable it can be. I saw a picture of a woman with a baby on her back, just like I would be with one of my babes on my hip, cooking at the stove. Her hut is full of toxic smoke, and that child is in tremendous peril. It’s my privilege and honor to cook three meals a day for my family, and it’s a luxury on a level that I didn’t even realize, because it can be relentless for me on some days. You have pride in how you take care of your family.”
On her Oscar chances: “Listen, every actor wants to win an Oscar, full stop. It doesn’t mean you try to design things around how to accomplish that because that’s impossible. Now that I’m a grown-up person and have things of such greater value to pin my idea of joy and fullness on, if something like that were to happen again, my feeling of thrill would be defined in a completely different way.”
On her skill in delivering dialogue: “I used to be better at it. I have to work twice as hard to remember half as much.”
[From Marie Claire]
Compare this to George Clooney?s Esquire interview ? Clooney comes off as a candid sh-t-talker who is happy to entertain. Julia Roberts comes across as someone who would happily sh-t talk but she?s too busy talking about herself. Clooney is a storyteller ? Julia is a rampant narcissist. That?s how I see the difference. You guys? this awards season is going to be GOOD.

| Julia Roberts in Elie Saab at the Hollywood Film Awards: unflattering or cute? | Added 11 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

The Hollywood Film Awards were last night. But perhaps they should have renamed them The Julia Roberts Is Fabulous And the Most Important Person In the World Awards, because that?s what most of the coverage is going to be. Julia walked the carpet with producer and friend Jerry Weintraub, who produced the Ocean?s Eleven movies amongst others. Julia wore this Elie Saab Spring 2014 dress which? I do not like on her. Julia is not wearing this dress properly, in my opinion. Look at all the wrinkles and look how unflattering it is. She should have gone for something much less boxy.
People Mag had a lengthy article about what went down during the awards ? you can read the piece here. Apparently, Sean Penn made an ?elaborate introductory speech? for Julia and he went on and on about how much she eats. Julia also referenced her appetite, saying: “Fortunately, I am a hearty eater, which I told my husband 13 years ago when he asked me out on a date. ‘Prepare yourself. I won’t just have a salad.’ But that’s worked out for us.”
Sandra Bullock in Dsquared. Eh. It?s just a little black dress. It?s a bit sexier than what she usually wears, but it?s nothing special.
Olivia Munn in Dolce & Gabbana. God help me, I like this dress. I?m just not sure I like it on her. I kind of want to see it on Sofia Vergara. Also: Olivia?s hair looks awful.
Lupita Nyong?o in J.Mendel. A curse upon J.Mendel!! I?ve been seeing way too much J.Mendel on the red carpet lately. While I applaud Lupita for not being afraid of a bold color (and quite honestly, she?s one of the few who could pull this off), the cut on this dress is terrible. They?ve made this slim, petite, beautiful woman look bulky.
And last but not least, Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. I love them together!

| Julia Roberts, Lili Taylor & Annabeth Gish have a 'Mystic Pizza' reunion: amazing' | Added 11 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

MYSTIC PIZZA. Sigh. I love it. The girls of Mystic Pizza cover the new ?Reunions? issue of Entertainment Weekly and I just couldn?t resist. Obviously, I believe the movie is so much more than the sum of its parts. Quite honestly, I could take or leave Annabeth Gish (no offense to her). And you know I could take or leave Julia Roberts. But for me, Mystic Pizza was the beginning of a lifelong girl-crush on Lili Taylor and Vincent D?Onofrio. For Vincent, Mystic Pizza came one year after his career-defining turn in Stanley Kubrick?s Full Metal Jacket. For Lili, well? it was the beginning of a full career of so many small, independent films and I still love her, so there. Anyway, this is just some morning nostalgia.
(If you really want nostalgia, go find a copy of Dogfight starring Lili and River Phoenix. Gah.)
The cast reunited for Good Morning America too. OMG VINCENT. Jesus, I love that man. When asked about Julia Roberts, Vincent says: ?Miss Roberts here ? you just knew when she met Julia she was gonna be a huge star? There was no doubt in our minds, any of us. She was like a bomb waiting to go off. A big bomb!?

PS? Is it wrong to be interested in the Frasier reunion too? I?m pretty much in love with David Hyde Pierce and John Mahoney.
