During a promotional tour for her new film ?Cloud Atlas,? Halle Berry made a stop on the ?Ellen DeGeneres Show? last week.
While chatting with the host, the 46-year-old actress revealed that her home has recently become overrun with horrifying black widow spiders.
?I just left,? Miss Berry said. ?Before I passed out I said 'I'm going to leave and you're going to have to handle that.' Because I can't stand spiders. I don't even like daddy long-legs.?
Everything seemed fine until after the commercial break when Ellen scared Halle after a man dressed in a spider suit popped up behind the actress.
?That was so mean!? the Oscar-winning star joked. ?I'm so sorry I talked about the spiders.?

Here are some photos from last night?s LA premiere of Cloud Atlas. I kind of want to see this completely bizarre movie, just because I think it?s probably going to be a total mindf?k and sometimes I enjoy those kinds of movies. The film stars an assortment of talent including Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Tom Hanks, Susan Sarandon, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, and many, many more, all of whom play multiple characters within the intertwined storylines. I?ll be covering some of the dudes at the premiere in another post. For now, I just want to talk about Halle Berry and her date, Olivier Martinez? and I?ll talk about Susan Sarandon too, at the end.
Halle wore a metallic Dolce & Gabbana cocktail dress to the premiere. I mean? she looks beautiful. She ALWAYS looks beautiful. But she has worn versions of this dress 20 million times before over the course of the past 15 years. This is one of her go-to looks ? a strapless cocktail dress, beautifully tailored, with interesting earrings. You could say that she definitely knows what looks good on her, and she totally does. But it gets boring.
As for Halle and Olivier? you know my thoughts on the matter. I think she keeps him in a dungeon. I think he?s afraid to break up with her, lest she go crazy on him and wage a ?HE?S RACIST? campaign against him. He does look less squinty here, and he looks good with that haircut. But I still feel bad for the guy. What does their body language say? Does it say “sex dungeon” or just “dungeon”?
I?m also including a photo of Susan Sarandon at the premiere ? she looked beautiful. Remember how Susan admitted that she had gotten tweaked? I think she should be The Face of ?Responsible Tweaking?. She had a great surgeon, she didn?t go in to try to look 30-something, she didn?t go too far.

Heading out to the legendary Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, the stars of "Cloud Atlas" brought their revelry to their film's Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday night (October 24).
Celebrating the debut screening were top bill co-stars Tom Hanks and Halle Berry, with the "Forrest Gump" big screen vet joined by wife Rita Wilson while the Oscar-winning "Monster's Ball" beauty turning up on the arm of actor fiance Olivier Martinez.
With fellow castmates including Susan Sarandon, Xun Zhou and Keanu Reeves also on-hand, the impressive lineup of talent's ensemble effort is based on David Mitchell's bestselling novel of the same name by exploring how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present, and future.
Directed by the trio of Tom Tykwer, Andy Wachowski, and Lana Wachowski, the epic journey hits theaters nationwide on Friday, October 25th.

While picking up some groceries, Halle Berry spread some positive vibes through her T-shirt message in West Hollywood on Wednesday (October 24).
The "Cloud Atlas" star wore a long black skirt, sandals, and a t-shirt with the message "Happy is the new black."
In a recent interview on The Tonight Show, the 46-year-old actress was asked about rumors that she and costar Tom Hanks smoked marijuana on the set.
After needling Jay Leno about his own experience with the drug, she admitted, "I did. I smoked pot with Tom Hanks...in this movie," referring to a scene in the surreal film.

Kicking off a week of what's set to be nonstop promotional duties, Halle Berry was tapped as a guest on Monday night's (October 22) all-new episode of ?The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."
The always-hot 46-year-old Oscar winning actress rocked an asymmetrical grey dress as she sat down to talk with Jay about some of her "Cloud Atlas" on-set antics with co-star Tom Hanks.
Confronting a rumor he'd heard amidst the back-and-forth with Berry, Leno asked her if she'd ever smoked pot with Hanks.
Playfully calling Jay out on his own smoking past, Berry shot back, ?I did. I smoked pot with Tom Hanks in this movie,? which was later referred to as ?movie pot.?
Described as ?an exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present and future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and an act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution,? ?Cloud Atlas? is set to hit theaters on October 26th.

Halle Berry takes the cover of the NY Times Sunday Style Magazine, to promote her co-starring role in the upcoming epic film Cloud Atlas, out later this week. It’s a whopper of a movie with no less than six plotlines spanning space and time and connecting the characters in some kind of existential web. The film is either a bloated pretentious mess or an ambitious uplifting experience, judging by advance reviews, which give it a positive 79% on Rotten Tomatoes. (Here’s a link to the trailer.)
In her NYT profile, Halle plays the still-humble starlet who triumphed over a difficult circumstances and a troubled childhood. That may be her experience, but it all sounds a bit hackneyed given her current position in life. This is Halle at her finest, trying to convince us that she’s this admirable figure, just trying to make her way in Hollywood and forge a better life for her child. She comes across somewhat well in the Times’ profile, because her quotes aren’t standing on their own and the piece is largely sympathetic. Still, I rolled my eyes a few times. Halle is laying it on thick here. Here’s some of what she said, with more at the source:
On the paparazzi
it?s not O.K. that they?re doing terrible things to my daughter. One night, after they chased us, it took me two hours just to get her calmed down enough to get to sleep.
On if Cloud Atlas is a ?comeback? for her
?I never went anywhere. I just seized the chance to be in an extraordinary film with an extraordinary cast, exploring an idea that?s relevant to everyone.?
She?s asked ?Why have you made such bad choices in men??
?My picker?s broken,? she says with a laugh. ?God just wanted to mix up my life. Maybe he was thinking, ?This girl can?t get everything! I?m going to give her a broken picker.? ? She says it?s fixed now.
Something vague about how she?s insecure
?Just because they see my face doesn?t mean they see me. A person?s self-esteem has nothing to do with how she looks. If it?s true that I?m beautiful,? she adds, ?I?m proof of that.
?Self-esteem comes from who you have in your life. How you were raised. What you struggled with as a child.?
Her struggles as a mixed race child
After her mother showed up for the first time at her all-black elementary school, Berry was shunned. ?Kids said I was adopted,? she says. ?Overnight, I didn?t fit in anymore.? When the family moved to the suburbs in search of a better education for Berry and her sister, she was suddenly the lone black child in a nearly all-white school. People left Oreo cookies in her locker. When she was elected prom queen, the school principal accused her of stuffing the ballot box and suggested she and the white runner-up flip a coin to see who got to be queen. Berry won the toss.
On proving herself
?I always had to prove myself through my actions,? she says. ?Be a cheerleader. Be class president. Be the editor of the newspaper. It gave me a way to show who I was without being angry or violent. By the time I left school, I had a lot of tenacity. I?d turned things around.?
On how her mom helped her with her identity
When she was 16, her mother stood with her in front of a mirror and asked what she saw. ?My mother helped me identify myself the way the world would identify me,? Berry says. ?Bloodlines didn?t matter as much as how I would be perceived? ? as beautiful but also as a black woman in a world in which the images of beautiful, successful black women were notably absent.
How a black counselor became her mentor
?My mother tried hard,? Berry says. ?But there was no substitute for having a black woman I could identify with, who could teach me about being black.?
A black school counselor named Yvonne Sims entered her life in fifth grade. She remains one of Berry?s closest friends. ?Yvonne taught me not to let the criticism affect me. She inspired me to be the best and gave me a model of a great black woman.?
On being biracial
We speak of her own experience, but also that of President Obama. She hasn?t met him, but she attended the inauguration and feels a connection to another dark-skinned child of an absent black father, raised by a white mother. ?Being biracial is sort of like being in a secret society,? she says. ?Most people I know of that mix have a real ability to be in a room with anyone, black or white.?
Winning the Oscar didn?t change much for her
?I come from humble beginnings,? she says. ?I always felt like the underdog. Behind the eight ball. I learned not to be too high on the hog. Even that night I won the Oscar, I had a fundamental knowing, it was just a moment in time. Driving home that night, back to my house, I felt like Cinderella. I said, ?When this night is over, I?m going back to who I was.? And I did.?
Why she?s trying to move to France
?I can?t grow my daughter in L.A.,? she tells me. ?You take a little child who is just trying to learn about the world and have all these people with cameras chasing after her, calling things out to her about her mother. It?s starting to make her feel special and different. I want her to feel special and different, but not for the reason of being my child.?
What she?d do if she wasn?t famous
?I?d go to the market with my daughter,? she says. ?Go to Santa Monica Pier and take her on a ride. Nothing special. Just live some normal life for once.?

As everyone points out, Halle could move a couple hours outside of LA and achieve the same objective with Nahla as moving to France. It’s not about protecting her daughter from the paparazzi, but that’s her line and she’s sticking to it. So we’re supposed to believe that Halle had a rough childhood and now she’s this vulnerable figure besieged by paparazzi she can’t shake unless she leaves the country. I’m not even getting into the biracial stuff, as a white woman I feel somewhat unqualified to comment on that. It all ties in to Halle’s narrative, and I’ll leave it at that. Also, notice how Halle takes no personal responsibility for her previous relationships at all. She has a “bad picker,” it’s not about her role in any way, somehow the guys were defective.

With her new movie "Cloud Atlas" set to hit theaters on October 26th, Halle Berry continued promotions by covering the November 2012 issue of The New York Times T Style magazine.
The 46-year-old actress adorned herself in designer items such as Versace and Salvatore Ferragamo for the Cedric Buchet shot front page while opening up about everything from struggling to fit in during high school to dealing with the paparazzi.

On dealing with the paparazzi:
"They?re outside my house every morning. I get it about the celebrity stuff, It?s part of my job to recognize that there?s a certain part of my life the public wants to hear about. Halle Berry covers the November issue of In Style, on newsstands Friday. She looks amazing on the cover in a tight red cutout dress, but we wouldn’t expect anything else from her. You can say a lot of other things about Halle, but she usually looks incredible. An inside photo shows Halle in some ridiculous loose leather pants and fishnet gloves. I guess leather jodhpurs are in for that tiny subset of people with too much money and no sense of shame.
In her interview, Halle covers a lot of topics that the press is interested in: her custody battle and bid to move to France with Nahla, her fiance Oliver Martinez, her hair, and aging. (Not that she is actually aging.) I have to say that Halle talks a good game. She makes it sound like she wants to move to France for Nahla’s own good, and so that Nahla doesn’t inherit Halle’s own inflated sense of self. (Not that she actually said that.) It’s all about Nahla not feeling “special” because she’s followed by photographers, and about Nahla not growing up “around the tabloids.” It would have been more accurate to say she doesn’t want Nahla “to grow up around her father.” We have yet to how everything will turn out for Halle, Gabriel and most importantly, Nahla. That case is taking quite a while and I hope that means Halle will have to stay put. Here’s more:
On why she wants to move to France
“It’s the appeal of privacy and a greater sense of safety for Nahla. I don’t want her to grow up around the tabloids. Because we are followed all the time, she is starting to feel like she is somehow special, and of course she is, but I want her to understand that she’s special because of who she is, not because she was born into this celebrity blender.”
On her custody battle
“There is turbulence, bit this too shall pass.”
On her wedding plans:
“I do know it will be very small. I haven’t been to many weddings, but I went to one this weekend with 250 guests. I thought, Wow ? so this is a wedding, huh? I’ve never had that, nor have I wanted that. I wasn’t even trying to catch the bouquet!”
On her fiance Olivier Martinez:
?When I first met Olivier, there wasn?t the initial ?I?m in love!? It was something that grew more gradually?and it feels more real because of that. [Marriage] is another one of those never-say-never things. I?m a hopeless romantic, and I won?t stop till I get it right!?
“He’s silly, a clown, and very much the life of the party, which is good for someone like me. Danny Downer … been there, done that. Now I like Louie Lightfoot!”
On aging in Hollywood:
?Throughout my career I have been talked out of things I wanted to do, and when I look back I think, I should have followed my instincts. I relied on others to guide me because I thought they knew better. But as I?ve gotten older, I?ve learned to trust myself. Don?t stress about your age or fight it. Appreciate the young women who look like you once did, but don?t strive to be like them. You?re moving into a new phase of your life?embrace it. That?s what I hope to do.?
On not being defined by her hairstyle:
?I think I am at my best when my hair is short. It?s easier to take care of and more of who I am. Women are conditioned to think we need long hair. I see that happening with my daughter. She is so in love with her hair right now. She says, ?Look, Mommy?it?s so long!? As women, we think it defines us, and we learn that at a young age.?

Now we know that Halle is planning a small wedding, and that she considers it “embracing aging” to get subtle work done at the dermatologist. I’m not saying she looks toxy or filled, she doesn’t, but she’s had some minor things done. I would too in her position, but I like to think I would be more honest about it. (Who knows though.) The main thing that bothered me about this interview was how Halle used her daughter as an example of women being “conditioned to think we need long hair.” I only have a little boy, I can’t speak for girls, but he was into boy stuff from a very small age, like cars, trucks and robots. It really seemed ingrained to me and not influenced by society, media, or family at all. He just wasn’t interested in girlie stuff and there was nothing that would have changed that. Of course we need more role models for girls that are not naive Disney princesses waiting for their savior prince, but a preference for long hair doesn’t mean that society is defining it for a child. She’s just a little kid. I went through a phase where I refused to wear anything but dresses. At least Halle doesn’t insist her daughter cut her hair.

Juggling multiple bags, Halle Berry stopped at Bristol Farms to stock up on groceries in Beverly Hills on Tuesday (October 16).
The "Cloud Atlas" star wore a white t-shirt that read "Got to Have Faith," daisy dukes, and flip-flops as she made her way to her vehicle.
Recently, the 46-year-old actress spoke to InStyle magazine about her age and style. Though it's easy to say if you look like Halle Berry, she advises, "Don't stress about your age or fight it. Appreciate the young women who look like you once did, but don't strive to be like them. You're moving into a new phase of your life ? embrace it. That's what I hope to do."
As for her familiar short hairdo, the Cleveland native explains, "I think I am at my best when my hair is short. It's easier to take care of and more of who I am. Women are conditioned to think we need long hair. I see that happening with my daughter. She is so in love with her hair right now. She says, 'Look, Mommy ? it's so long!' As women, we think it defines us, and we learn that at a young age."

Stocking up on supplies for the week, Halle Berry and her daughter, Nahla, hit up Bristol Farms in Beverly Hills on Monday (October 15).
The "Cloud Atlas" star dressed down, in a black, sleeveless top, blue jeans, and boots while she pushed her 4-year-old in the shopping cart.
In the upcoming Wachowski siblings movie, the 46-year-old actress portrays characters of different races and genders. Of her many roles, she said, "I loved them all. I have to say I did love being turned into Dr. Ovid. Never before in my life would I ever have thought anybody anywhere would hire me to be an Asian man for any reason. So that was probably a day that I felt like I?m doing something that?s unique and that I?ll never have the chance to do again.?
Later, Halle praised the film, saying it reminded her of why she became an actress in the first place. "Cloud Atlas" hits theaters on October 26th.
