Halle Berry covers the November issue of In Style, on newsstands Friday. She looks amazing on the cover in a tight red cutout dress, but we wouldn’t expect anything else from her. You can say a lot of other things about Halle, but she usually looks incredible. An inside photo shows Halle in some ridiculous loose leather pants and fishnet gloves. I guess leather jodhpurs are in for that tiny subset of people with too much money and no sense of shame.
In her interview, Halle covers a lot of topics that the press is interested in: her custody battle and bid to move to France with Nahla, her fiance Oliver Martinez, her hair, and aging. (Not that she is actually aging.) I have to say that Halle talks a good game. She makes it sound like she wants to move to France for Nahla’s own good, and so that Nahla doesn’t inherit Halle’s own inflated sense of self. (Not that she actually said that.) It’s all about Nahla not feeling “special” because she’s followed by photographers, and about Nahla not growing up “around the tabloids.” It would have been more accurate to say she doesn’t want Nahla “to grow up around her father.” We have yet to how everything will turn out for Halle, Gabriel and most importantly, Nahla. That case is taking quite a while and I hope that means Halle will have to stay put. Here’s more:
On why she wants to move to France
“It’s the appeal of privacy and a greater sense of safety for Nahla. I don’t want her to grow up around the tabloids. Because we are followed all the time, she is starting to feel like she is somehow special, and of course she is, but I want her to understand that she’s special because of who she is, not because she was born into this celebrity blender.”
On her custody battle
“There is turbulence, bit this too shall pass.”
On her wedding plans:
“I do know it will be very small. I haven’t been to many weddings, but I went to one this weekend with 250 guests. I thought, Wow ? so this is a wedding, huh? I’ve never had that, nor have I wanted that. I wasn’t even trying to catch the bouquet!”
On her fiance Olivier Martinez:
?When I first met Olivier, there wasn?t the initial ?I?m in love!? It was something that grew more gradually?and it feels more real because of that. [Marriage] is another one of those never-say-never things. I?m a hopeless romantic, and I won?t stop till I get it right!?
“He’s silly, a clown, and very much the life of the party, which is good for someone like me. Danny Downer … been there, done that. Now I like Louie Lightfoot!”
On aging in Hollywood:
?Throughout my career I have been talked out of things I wanted to do, and when I look back I think, I should have followed my instincts. I relied on others to guide me because I thought they knew better. But as I?ve gotten older, I?ve learned to trust myself. Don?t stress about your age or fight it. Appreciate the young women who look like you once did, but don?t strive to be like them. You?re moving into a new phase of your life?embrace it. That?s what I hope to do.?
On not being defined by her hairstyle:
?I think I am at my best when my hair is short. It?s easier to take care of and more of who I am. Women are conditioned to think we need long hair. I see that happening with my daughter. She is so in love with her hair right now. She says, ?Look, Mommy?it?s so long!? As women, we think it defines us, and we learn that at a young age.?

Now we know that Halle is planning a small wedding, and that she considers it “embracing aging” to get subtle work done at the dermatologist. I’m not saying she looks toxy or filled, she doesn’t, but she’s had some minor things done. I would too in her position, but I like to think I would be more honest about it. (Who knows though.) The main thing that bothered me about this interview was how Halle used her daughter as an example of women being “conditioned to think we need long hair.” I only have a little boy, I can’t speak for girls, but he was into boy stuff from a very small age, like cars, trucks and robots. It really seemed ingrained to me and not influenced by society, media, or family at all. He just wasn’t interested in girlie stuff and there was nothing that would have changed that. Of course we need more role models for girls that are not naive Disney princesses waiting for their savior prince, but a preference for long hair doesn’t mean that society is defining it for a child. She’s just a little kid. I went through a phase where I refused to wear anything but dresses. At least Halle doesn’t insist her daughter cut her hair.

Juggling multiple bags, Halle Berry stopped at Bristol Farms to stock up on groceries in Beverly Hills on Tuesday (October 16).
The "Cloud Atlas" star wore a white t-shirt that read "Got to Have Faith," daisy dukes, and flip-flops as she made her way to her vehicle.
Recently, the 46-year-old actress spoke to InStyle magazine about her age and style. Though it's easy to say if you look like Halle Berry, she advises, "Don't stress about your age or fight it. Appreciate the young women who look like you once did, but don't strive to be like them. You're moving into a new phase of your life ? embrace it. That's what I hope to do."
As for her familiar short hairdo, the Cleveland native explains, "I think I am at my best when my hair is short. It's easier to take care of and more of who I am. Women are conditioned to think we need long hair. I see that happening with my daughter. She is so in love with her hair right now. She says, 'Look, Mommy ? it's so long!' As women, we think it defines us, and we learn that at a young age."

Stocking up on supplies for the week, Halle Berry and her daughter, Nahla, hit up Bristol Farms in Beverly Hills on Monday (October 15).
The "Cloud Atlas" star dressed down, in a black, sleeveless top, blue jeans, and boots while she pushed her 4-year-old in the shopping cart.
In the upcoming Wachowski siblings movie, the 46-year-old actress portrays characters of different races and genders. Of her many roles, she said, "I loved them all. I have to say I did love being turned into Dr. Ovid. Never before in my life would I ever have thought anybody anywhere would hire me to be an Asian man for any reason. So that was probably a day that I felt like I?m doing something that?s unique and that I?ll never have the chance to do again.?
Later, Halle praised the film, saying it reminded her of why she became an actress in the first place. "Cloud Atlas" hits theaters on October 26th.

Olivier Martinez headed to dinner at Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills on Friday (October 12).
The "Cloud Atlas" star wore a black and white top with a black and white striped blazer and jeans, while her French fianc wore a gray sweater, brown leather jacket, and blue jeans.
Earlier this week, the 46-year-old actress was honored at Variety's annual Power of Women event in Beverly Hills for her work with the Jenesse center, which helps victims of domestic violence.
Hosted by Maria Menounos, the event also honored Sue Kroll (Film Independent), Jessica Biel (Water, a non-profit organization), Felicity Huffman (Entertainment Industry Foundation and Stand Up to Cancer), Katherine Heigl (American Cancer Society?s Fight for More Birthdays), and Queen Latifah (Lancelot H. Owens Scholarship Foundation).
Of her fellow honorees, Halle exclaimed, "All of the women here inspire me!?

These are some photos from an event in LA on Friday night. The event was ?Variety’s 4th Annual Power of Women presented by Lifetime? in which many actresses and entertainers were honored for their ?impact on the philanthropic and charitable causes closest to their hearts.” The event actually scored some A-listers and some interesting fashion moments, so I?ll be splitting up the photos into two posts. First up, Halle Berry and her man Olivier Martinez. It feels like we haven?t seen Olivier in a while, or maybe it just FEELS like that for Olivier, since I tend to think Halle keeps him locked in some kind of dungeon in between happy-family photo ops. Halle?s dress is Roland Mouret ? which goes a long way to explaining why I was immediately like, ?Damn, is Halle wearing Victoria Beckham?? Because VB looks a lot like Mouret, etc. Anyway, I really like Halle?s dress. Occasion-appropriate, flattering and simply a great LBD.
Poor Jennifer Love Hewitt. Bless her heart. For real. J.Love has a habit of telegraphing to the world whenever she thinks she?s gained weight. Whenever she thinks she looks good, she pours herself into a Herve Leger dress. Whenever she thinks she?s gained weight, she has an endless supply of muumuus. I don?t even think she looks heavy at all, from what I can see of her figure. But this muumuu is not good. It ADDS weight. And the color isn?t great on her either, but you know me ? I hate most bright yellows and oranges on most people.
Queen Latifah is a Queen. I think this dress looks great on her. She?s so beautiful. One complaint: the shoes are a little too matchy-matchy.
At first I was going to applaud Katherine Heigl for at least going with an inoffensive outfit and hairstyle, which? that?s about all I can say. The dress isn?t actively bad, and the hair is actually slightly improved (slightly!). But then I saw the mess below the waist. Heigl is wearing shiny white-beige stockings, like, what I nurse would wear. And she?s wearing them with open-toe BROWN shoes. OH HONEY. WTF?!?! Sidenote: She looks hella Botoxy, right?

Making preparations for the upcoming Halloween festivities, Halle Berry took her daughter Nahla out for some costume shopping in Hollywood, CA on Tuesday (October 2).
The "Die Another Day" actress kept her look casual in denim shorts and a red and grey top, while her adorable four year-old mini me admired the nearby holiday decorations.
Speaking of the upcoming fall activities, Halle and her former boyfriend Gabriel Aubry- who is Nahla's father- put their differences aside to take their little girl out for some pumpkin hunting.
As previously reported by GossipCenter, the pair made their way around a pumpkin patch in Simi Valley earlier this week despite their current custody woes.

These are photos of Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry yesterday at a pumpkin patch in Simi Valley, CA called Stu Miller’s. At first I thought that they were at seasonal paparazzi target, Mr. Bones’ pumpkin patch, in L.A. In that case both of them would have known that they would be photographed. Several photographers were there to document the custody handoff of Gabriel and Halle’s four year-old daughter, Nahla. We can assume that one of them called the paps. Judging by how much we’re seeing Nahla with her mom, it might be Halle who alerted the media, but she claims to be afraid of the paparazzi after all. This couldn’t be a photo op to promote Cloud Atlas, Halle’s epic film with Tom Hanks, out later this month. (It looks incredible, I’m actually looking forward to it.) Did Gabriel call the paps in order to get under Halle’s skin? It doesn’t take much.
The title of this story is somewhat misleading, as it’s hard to believe it’s possible for Halle to get along with Gabriel, and there are no actual photos of these two even speaking to each other. It looks like Nahla spent some time with her dad, went off to be with her mom and then Gabriel went his own way. It’s a little sad actually. How must it be for a kid to have to see their parents actively ignore and avoid one another? It’s better than fighting I guess.
As TMZ reports, Halle Berry’s bid to move to France with Nahla is ongoing. We heard in late August that the case was about to be wrapped up within a couple of weeks, but obviously that hasn’t happened. Judging by the lack of reports about it, I would guess that it’s delayed and/or not going in Halle’s favor.
Instead of complaining about Halle’s boots, I’ll end on a positive note. It looks like Nahla is having fun and this reminds me to take my kid to do some fall activities this weekend. We went to a pumpkin patch and corn maze last year (an easy one, I hate the scary ones where you can get lost!) and it was a blast. Fall is my favorite season by far. Halloween is the best!

Putting aside their differences for the sake of their child, Halle Berry and her ex Gabriel Aubry took their daughter Nahla to a pumpkin patch in Simi Valley, California today (October 1).
The "Cloud Atlas" star was cute and casual and a t-shirt, cutoff denim shorts, black boots, and a fedora as she waded through a sea of pumpkins with her little girl.
Though the two parents seemed to get along at the pumpkin patch, a legal battle continues to rage in the background over custody of Nahla.
Recently, Halle's attorney has been arguing that the 46-year-old star should be able to move to France and retain primary custody of the minor child because there are stricter laws regarding the paparazzi there.
However, the recent scandal over Kate Middleton's topless photos will certainly provide more fodder for Gabriel's defense.

Building a life together is hard for a couple, but Halle Berry and fiance Olivier Martinez took a big step in the right direction, as they spent the day house hunting in Malibu on Saturday (September 29).
The "Monster's Ball" actress was clearly going for comfort in the California heat, wearing a loose-fitting gray t-shirt, cutoff denim shorts, and flip flops, while her French beau sported a gray t-shirt of his own, brown belt, and cuffed blue jeans.
This October, you can see the 46-year-old star in "Cloud Atlas," where she portrays a variety of women from different races and time periods, even taking a turn as a Korean male doctor.
Joining Ms. Berry in the epic film is Tom Hanks, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D'Arcy, Zhou Xun, Keith David, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon, and Hugh Grant.
