These are photos from last night?s LA premiere of The Rum Diary. Johnny looks pretty nice here, I think. I like his hair this length, and I like that he put on a suit and actually tried. The Rum Diary is a passion project for Depp - that much I got from his VF interview.
Speaking of, I know a lot of you are over Johnny Depp these days, what with his support of Roman Polanski, and then his douchey, out-of-touch, and offensive comments in Vanity Fair about how photo shoots equal rape. Well, I read the whole interview, and while Johnny totally said those things and he was completely right in apologizing for it, I also think that he wasn?t being interviewed by the best person. The dude interviewing him was an old friend and godfather to his son. And the whole interview was rather lacking as far as ?Johnny being an interesting person.? It?s been explained to me time and time again why he?s so interesting and cool, but time and time again, he fails to reveal that side of himself in interviews, and part of the problem is that Johnny rarely gets interviewed by anyone other than his sycophantic friends. Whenever he was asked about anything more than superficial, Johnny muttered ?I dunno? or ?I don?t care.? It was tedious.
I?m also including photos of Johnny?s female costar, Amber Heard. I think Amber is really pretty on her own, but in these photos she?s giving me Scarlett Johansson vibes. Right? The dress is Elie Saab, and it?s very pretty - nay, stunning - on her. My only quibble is with her hair - it?s too blonde, and there should be some roots or low-lights, because these extreme blonde is washing her out.

Johnny Depp tells Nick Tosches in Vanity Fair that he’ll take the ridiculous bags of money people throw at him but that doesn’t mean he has to like it.
?Basically, if they?re going to pay me the stupid money right now, I?m going to take it,? he says in Vanity Fair?s November issue. ?I have to. I mean, it?s not for me. Do you know what I mean? He hates the fame that comes along with it so much that he feels as if he’s being raped every time he does a photo shoot.
?Well, you just feel like you?re being raped somehow. Raped … It feels like a kind of weird — just weird, man.? He?ll pose with fans, ?But whenever you have a photo shoot or something like that, it?s like — you just feel dumb. It?s just so stupid.? Page Six
Is Johnny Depp partial to exaggeration? Well, yea, of course. He’s an actor. They all have a flair for the dramatic. He makes this sound like Sophie’s choice though. I’m not saying he has to like the publicity that comes with the $300 million for pretending to be a gay pirate, but at least be a little grateful. I mean, that homeless guy across the street has been pretending to be a gay pirate for close to a decade and he still lives in a cardboard penis-shaped pirate ship.

Look, I really like and enjoy Johnny Depp, but there is absolutely NO reason for him to be on the cover of Vanity Fair AGAIN. He was just on the January cover! Meaning VF made him cover boy twice in 11 months! WTF? Vanity Fair has just become the magazine that puts dead celebrities, dead politicians and Johnny Depp on their covers. That being said, the cover shot hasn?t been released yet - we?ve only got the header image, which was shot by Terry Richardson, because that?s how Depp rolls. Anyway, I suppose Depp is promoting The Rum Diary, that film that sees him doing his Hunter Thompson impression again (but it looks really awesome). Here are the VF highlights:

He admits, with much difficulty, that there is also ?a part of me that needs to have this kind of stimulation to the brain.? (Depp is ever mum on the size of his Pirates ransom, but a report this summer cited his total take in the $300 million range, due to a gross-profit-sharing deal brokered with Disney. The four-film franchise has tallied $3.7 billion to date in worldwide receipts.)
But Nick Tosches, Depp friend of a decade and writer of this month?s cover profile, says the Rum Diary actor is ?the same old Johnny? who pumped gas to make ends meet and for a period attended Scientology study groups because they paid $3 per meeting.
?I went to a bunch, man. It was so great, it was so fantastic,? Depp says.
Today, compliments from rock idols mean more to the actor than cash. During the interview, Tosches shared with Depp that their mutual buddy Keith Richards, the professed inspiration behind Captain Jack Sparrow, had ?beautiful things to say? about Depp?s singing in Sweeney Todd. ?He never told me that,? Depp says, touched. Take that one to the bank.

Page Six had some highlights from Johnny?s interview too - and it?s like he?s channeling Kristen Stewart, I swear to God. Remember the controversy last year when she compared having her photo taken by paparazzi to ?being raped?? K-Stew later had to apologize and clarify. Well, Johnny takes it a step further than Kristen Stewart. Ridiculous.
Despite being one of the world?s most handsome men, Johnny Depp hates photo shoots so much, he compares them to violent sexual assault. He tells Nick Tosches in Vanity Fair, ?Well, you just feel like you?re being raped somehow. Raped … It feels like a kind of weird — just weird, man.? Depp says his next project, ?The Rum Diary,? came straight out of Hunter S. Thompson?s basement. He was staying with the writer researching the 1998 movie ?Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas? when they came upon Thompson?s forgotten novel in boxes in his basement. ?I pulled it out. I was like ?What is this?? Hunter was like, ?Oh, [bleep], ?The Rum Diary? … Hunter didn?t know it was there.?
Depp prides himself on edgy projects. But he?s finally settled his grudge against Harvey Weinstein for putting his 2004 ?The Libertine?? in limited release: ?He basically said he [bleep]ed it … He made a choice to kill it, Harvey killed a great film.?

Okay, just shoot me because I think Kristen Stewart?s old comments were more reasonable than Johnny?s. Kristen was talking about the violation of privacy from the paparazzi, and she compared THAT to rape. Johnny is comparing photo shoots to rape - as in, being beautifully lit, wearing makeup and being told that you?re pretty and you should turn to the light - that?s like ?you?re being raped somehow???? Ridiculous.

I?m doing this story just because I wanted to spend ten minutes looking up old photos of Johnny Depp and Kate Moss. Sigh? the 1990s. So much fun. I wish there were more couples like that these days. They were wild and fun and they really loved each other. Anyway, I didn?t even know this was a story, but apparently there are lots of rumors going around about Kate Moss possibly penning a memoir. I did a 2-second Google search and found that Kate was also writing memoirs in 2009, 2006, and beyond, so? this might just be BS. But it?s fun to consider that one of the most private and secretive celebrity-models out there could be telling her story. Go here to Styleite to read more about the memoir rumor.
So that?s the jumping off point for this Enquirer story - Johnny Depp is worried what Kate might write about him in her memoir:

?Johnny is a family man now and Vanessa will flip out if she reads the nitty-gritty details about his wild life with Kate,? claimed the insider.
In the past, Depp has referred to his time with Moss, saying, ?I was a horrific pain in the butt to live with.?
The insider says: ?Kate is still bitter about her breakup with Johnny, and she?ll no doubt use the book as payback? Johnny has called Kate and sent e-mails asking her to leave out any reference to him. But Kate knows Johnny is on eof the main selling points of her life story.?

Yes, the Depp part would be the first part I would flip to - he was the best of Kate?s exes. I mean, Pete Doherty?!? I still can?t believe Kate was with Doherty. So Depp is the selling point?that, and all of those alleged orgies Kate has had with half of London. God, she?s so much fun. I’ve always thought Kate and Johnny were still a little bit hung up on each other - and I’ve always thought Vanessa Paradis looked an awful lot like Kate.
Honestly, though, I doubt Kate is ready to write her memoir - but I think she might do it at some point, maybe when she?s not making millions a year from modeling.

Bringing their sure-to-be-blockbuster movie to the French Riviera, Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz were center stage for the "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" premiere during the 64th Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France on Saturday (May 14).
The undeniably attractive pair both looked fabulous as they took to the Palais des Festivals venue while joining up with co-stars Geoffrey Rush, Sam Claflin, Ian McShane and Astrid Berges-Frisbey.
With stars such as Robert DeNiro, Jude Law, Uma Thurman and Karolina Kurkova all turning up for the red carpet extravaganza, Depp and Cruz worked the crowd after having partaken in a photocall and press conference for their movie earlier in the day.
During the Q&A, Penelope was asked what was it like working with such a talented cast, to which she replied, "I felt very very lucky, it was a privilege to spend time with them and to share scenes with them. I had worked with Johnny 12 years ago, and it was about time that someone put us together again. I have so much respect for him, he is so free and so inspiring. He's really a very unique human being, a very unique artist, and it is an honor just to be around him. He is very inspiring in every single way, so I hope that we get to work together many more times."
Johnny was then questioned about what the experience was like to be back working with Penelope after such a long time, of which he answered, "The opportunity to go back and work with Penelope on any film would have been a gift - a sublime gift - because she is such a talent... So smart, so funny, so talented. Beyond that she is an amazing person, she is a great friend and a very very loyal friend. In the context of the work, when you get into the ring with her, whatever you throw out, she is going to grab and throw back then she'll throw a few things herself that really keep you on your toes. She's a real talent and I would do more films with her if she would let me."
"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" is set to take over theaters next Friday, with the release date set for May 20th.

As they continue along with their European press tour, Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz were once again side-by-side for the "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" photocall during the 64th Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France on Saturday (May 14).
The fabulous co-stars both looked splendid as they took to the Palais des Festivals venue while joining up with co-stars Geoffrey Rush, Sam Caflin, Ian McShane and Astrid Berges-Frisbey.
Set to hit theaters on May 20th, the film's director, Rob Marshall, recently spoke to Parade magazine about how he dealt with the news of Penelope's pregnancy - which became known just a week prior to shooting the much-awaited picture.
Marshall explained, ?We were like, uhhhhh. I said, ?Are you going to be okay sword fighting with a baby in your stomach?? But she was up for it. She said she?d understand if we had to replace her, but she didn?t want to be replaced. It took more time, ultimately, but she was worth it."
Rob also addressed questions as to whether this will be the last of Captain Jack Sparrow, telling, ?It?s like the James Bond series. I think there are probably lots of stories still to tell.?

They?ve been globe trotting in support of their new film, and earlier today (May 12) Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz attended the UK premiere of ?Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.?
The ?Crybaby? hunk and the ?Vanilla Sky? cutie both looked snazzy as they arrived at the Vue Westfield in the English capitol.
In a recent interview, Johnny explained that his 11-year-old daughter Lily-Rose and 9-year-old son Jack are sometimes a bit confused at what he does for a living.
Of his experience filming ?Pirates 4? Depp shared, ?I?ve thought of doing many things in my life, under the influence of life, and I?ve never actually thought of straddling two carriages while they?re moving before.?
?That was an interesting experience. I was jumping on people?s heads and onto another cart, and then the thing catches fire. And then I?m having to explain to my kids that this is how daddy brings home the bacon. They think I?m mad.?
And now his kids can see their dad immortalized in wax, as Johnny?s ?Jack Sparrow? inspired wax figure was unveiled this morning at Madame Tussaud?s in Berlin, Germany.

The ?Public Enemies? stud is immortalized in Madame Tussaud?s wax museum as his ?Pirates of the Caribbean? character Jack Sparrow.
Speaking of ?Pirates,? Johnny?s costar Penelope Cruz told press she had a hard time keeping her composure while filming ?On Stranger Tides.?
"[It was a challenge] to keep a straight face sometimes with Johnny in some of the more dramatic scenes. I would look at him doing the things he does as Jack Sparrow, and Rob had to cut so many takes with Johnny or me, because we could not control ourselves. He would provoke me and always make me laugh. Gearing up for the Russian premiere of ?Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,? Penelope Cruz and Johnny Depp were spotted in Moscow today (May 11).
The ?Vicky Cristina Barcelona? babe and the ?Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas? stud looked to be having a great time at the photo call on the roof of the Ritz hotel.
During a recent interview, Penelope confessed that the hardest thing about making the movie was keeping her composure around Depp.
"[It was a challenge] to keep a straight face sometimes with Johnny in some of the more dramatic scenes. I would look at him doing the things he does as Jack Sparrow, and Rob had to cut so many takes with Johnny or me, because we could not control ourselves. He would provoke me and always make me laugh. It was harder than the sword fights, for sure."

Remember how Johnny Depp looked like hell for more than a year? Something was going on with him, like he just gained some weight and it all went to his face, plus some bad facial hair and a bad haircut? all of it conspired to make him look pretty bad. He looked kind of rough in The Tourist (but I didn?t think he looked as hideous as some of you thought), and then he looked pretty rough for The Tourist?s promotional duties. Well, that Johnny is gone, and he?s been replaced by a newer, sleeker, more chiseled Johnny. These are some photos from last night?s premiere (at Disneyland) of Pirates of Caribbean 4. Johnny wore some kind of Cowboy Lite ensemble, and he showed off his slimmer face. If it was anyone else, I would say he might have gotten some work done. Because it?s Johnny, I suspect it?s just a diet or something like that. Perhaps he?s taken up smoking again to suppress his appetite.

For some reason, Penelope Cruz decided to deck herself out in a full-length evening gown for the premiere - once again, it was at Disneyland. She?s usually not this much of an over-dresser, but maybe she just felt like wearing something big and feathered for one of her rare nights out after having a baby. I would have liked the dress if it was for an awards show or something, although the boob-feathers are a little bit overkill for any occasion. The only thing I can really complain about is the bangs trauma. I hate too-short bangs on adult women. And Penelope doesn?t need them - she gorgeous (and freckled) without the bangs.
