As her run on Broadway nears its end, Katie Holmes is surely ready for a break. And last night she looked a bit peaked as she arrived at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre for yet another performance of “All My Sons.”
After the show, the “Mad Money” mommy was joined by her hunky husband Tom Cruise and daughter Suri as she greeted fans outside the theater and signed autographs.

| Tom Cruise tells Spanish magazine that Scientology cured his dyslexia | Added 15 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Cruise told Matt Lauer in his “Mea Culpa” return to the Today Show that he regretted his anti-psychiatry Scientology rant in 2005 and that he would try and tone down the rhetoric in the future. He said there was a “time and place” to talk about Scientology and that “I’m just here to entertain people.”
American audiences are knowledgeable and wary enough of the cult for Tom to have to keep it zipped if he wants to improve his image, but apparently Cruise doesn’t feel the same about Spanish people. He is quoted as telling a Spanish magazine that he “cured” his dyslexia with the help of Scientology’s “study tech” developed by it’s founder, failed science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard. (It’s somewhat possible Cruise gave these quotes earlier and they’re being rehashed by the magazine, as the Associated Press notes in their coverage. It does sound like a new interview though.)
Actor Tom Cruise said Scientology teachings helped him overcome childhood dyslexia, a Spanish magazine reported.
Cruise was quoted by Spanish magazine XL Semanal as saying he was diagnosed with the learning disability when he was 7 years old.
Cruise said he was often anxious, frustrated and bored as a youth and couldn’t concentrate in class, the magazine reported on its Web site Sunday.
The magazine quoted Cruise as saying he was functionally illiterate when he graduated from school in 1980, but learned to read perfectly as an adult through Scientology technology.
XL Semanal said the interview was conducted in Los Angeles, but did not say when. A transcript of Cruise’s original comments in English was not available.
The Church of Scientology was established in 1945 by science-fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, and claims 10 million members around the world. Cruise and fellow actor John Travolta among its more famed followers.
[From AP via Huffington Post]
Scientology’s Study Tech has been widely discredited by education experts, and there are no independent studies to verify it’s effectiveness. Critics say that it is a way for Scientologists to try and slip their belief system unnoticed into a school’s curriculum and indoctrinate new recruits. Success stories largely rely on anecdotal evidence and testimonials.
The Andrew Morton unauthorized biography of Tom Cruise claimed that his relationship with Penelope Cruz was a deliberate move to try and expand the Scientology cult’s empire into Spain and Latin America. The actor also had a brief relationship with Sofia Vergara that Morton says dissolved once she learned she was being used as a PR tool for the cult.
If Cruise did give these quotes, it seems like a calculated statement to try and hype Scientology to Spanish-speaking audiences. Cruise seems to know that there’s a “time and place” to discuss the cult, and that American audiences are too savvy to buy it. Hopefully Spanish audiences are too.

| Tom Cruise's 'Valkyrie' illegally replicated Hitler's globe | Added 15 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Tom Cruise has gotten himself into all sorts of trouble over ?Valkyrie.? First, there?s the fact that it sucks, according to nearly every review that?s been written. With the exception of a few where the reviewer was probably drunk and/or bribed. So really, we don?t need a second. But just to add another log to the fire, it turns out that one of Hitler?s globes ? which is central to the movie ? was replicated for the film. Illegally. The globe?s owner had its image copyrighted when he purchased it. A technicality that Cruise?s United Artists chose to completely ignore.
Tom Cruise, who fights the Nazis in “Valkyrie,” might now have to battle a San Francisco advertising executive who says the couch-jumping star used a replica of one of Adolf Hitler’s prized possessions in the movie without permission. Robert Pritikin - who penned such jingles as “Rice-a-Roni, the San Francisco Treat” and has a $40 million art collection - owns several Hitler artifacts, including the Fuehrer’s notorious globe, which he used to plan U-boat attacks from his compound in the Bavarian Alps.
The globe was replicated and prominently featured in “Valkyrie,” the thriller about a real-life plot to assassinate Hitler - and that has Pritikin mulling legal action. In 2007, Pritikin paid $100,000 for the globe and had its likeness copyrighted to keep it from being used in propaganda by sick neo-Nazi groups. So he was stunned to see it in the movie from Cruise’s United Artists studios.
Pritikin recently put the Hitler items up for sale through businessman Peter Marino and hopes Cruise may buy them. “I think it would be a wonderful gesture of good will on Tom Cruise’s part to purchase the globe along with all of the other Hitler artifacts owned by Mr. Pritikin and donate them to the Wiesenthal Center,” [investigator Paul] Barresi said. Added [investigator Dan] Hanks: “It would be a hell of a way for Tom Cruise to save the day for United Artists and be a real-life hero.”
[From Page Six]
Both of the investigators that were retained to look into the copyright issue said it was very possible United Artists didn?t know the globe?s image was copyrighted. But isn?t that one of the things legal departments are for? A lot of research supposedly went into this film, and that seems like a big oversight.
While I never side with Tom Cruise on much of anything - and I agree that it would be gracious of Tom to offer to buy the globe ? it seems to me like Pritikin is trying to pressure him into it by having the story put in Page Six. He?d just put the items up for sale ? how wonderful to have such a quick buyer! But it probably would be the quickest and easiest way out, and would avoid additional bad publicity for a bad film.
Here are Tom and Katie out and about in Manhattan yesterday. Images thanks to WENN and Fame.
