The Cannes Film Festival opened up Wednesday evening, and now many people are counting down the hours until a couple of things happen: first, that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie walk the Cannes red carpet so we can analyze every detail of their body language to see if they are in fact broken up because Brad?s drinking and calling up Jennifer Aniston, who is fighting with Courteney Cox, and secondly, that we get to hear about Quentin Tarantino?s Inglourious Basterds. To promote the film during the festival, promoters have papered Cannes with posters of Brad Pitt, dressed in his World War II soldier?s costume, with the words ?Brad Pitt is a Basterd? plastered above the image. Classic:

The Brad Pitt is a Basterd is part of the lavish promotion for Quentin Tarantino’s much anticipated Inglourious Basterds.
His leading lady Diane Kruger is also, rather impolitely in my view, hailed as a basterd.
The thing about Cannes is that these billboards are designed to grab our attention. In previous years I’ve found some of the clever marketing for movies more fun than the pictures being advertised, which is a little sad.
But we will know by the middle of next week whether Tarantino’s Basterds are worth screaming about. I hope so.

In other Jolie-Pitt news, I?ve got one more story: I think People Magazine totally copied an article verbatim from OK! Magazine. Last month, we reported on this funny little story from OK! about how all of the mothers in Long Island were dressing up for Brad Pitt sightings. It was funny and cute, and many people enjoyed it. Wednesday afternoon of this week, People put up an article almost exactly like the OK! piece from last month. It?s the weirdest thing, check out the links to compare. The only new information in the People article is that George Clooney came for a visit and freaked everyone out. People claims, ?Brad recently had lunch with pal George Clooney at the Breakers restaurant in Bayville, N.Y. [A local source says:] ?I heard a woman screaming at Stop & Shop because the clerk was telling her George Clooney was at the Breakers… It startled me because she shrieked so loud. Then, a few women said they were going to go down there and see if they could run into Clooney.?? So, basically, Brad Pitt sightings get women dressing up in pearls and heels, while a George Clooney makes grown women start shrieking like it’s 1964 and they just saw Ringo Starr. Clooney and Pitt have very interesting fan bases.

In Touch?s cover story this week is a big one - Brad Pitt storms out on Angelina, and runs straight into the arms of Jennifer Aniston. In Touch is reporting that Brad and Jennifer got together on April 23rd, and they even have a location and Brad?s ?confession? that he and Angelina aren?t working, and he doesn?t know what to do. Which I suppose is an allusion to Brad getting back with Jennifer?
What is the proof of all of this? Brad and Jennifer are apparently wearing ?the same? necklace. In Touch claims that Jennifer gave him the ?antique pendant? for his 45th birthday this past December, but they also include a picture of Jennifer wearing the same necklace. Way to re-gift, Aniston. Does this mean that Jennifer gave Brad her necklace, and he?s wearing it, or vice versa? Or does this mean that the necklace was mass-produced, and Brad and Jennifer have the same taste in jewelry? Or does it mean Brad + Jennifer = true love forever!
As Brad Pitt copes with tension at home, he has been getting support from an unlikely ally ? his ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston.
Friends say that in recent weeks, Brad and Jen, 40, have been talking frequently on the phone and texting each other, their conversations becoming longer and more personal as he confides in her about his current situation.
In fact, In Touch can exclusively reveal that on April 23, after Brad visited Angelina, 33, on the NYC set of Salt, he drove across town to where Jen?s film The Baster was in production ? and the pair quietly met face-to-face.
?He pulled up in his black SUV,? reveals a mutual friend of the former couple, although Jen?s rep denies the story.
?He arrived on the opposite end of the set from where Jen?s trailer was, and Jen snuck into his car. They drove around New York City together, talking,? according to a friend of the former couple. ?Brad confessed his feelings to Jen,? the friend says.
?He told her that he is trying to make his relationship with Angelina work, but it is failing.?
After about an hour, Brad dropped Jen off at The Greenwich Hotel and drove away. The meeting had been something they?d been organizing for weeks.
?They had to plan it meticulously so no one would find out,? the friend says. After so much time has gone by, Brad and Jen seem to have grown to value their friendship more. And he?s proving it by wearing a necklace she gave him for his 45th birthday on December 18.
?It?s an antique pendant,? a confidante shares, adding that she left it for him at the offices of his production company, Plan B. ?She found it, and knew Brad would love it.?

Ugh, what is there even to say about this stuff? Maybe Brad and Jennifer did meet. They both claim to still keep in touch, but they?re never very specific about how often, or if they actually have face-to-face meetings. Is it just me, or is this report rather sad on several different levels? On face value, it?s sad that Brad is so out of sorts because Angelina is working on her first film after taking more than a year off to have and raise his children. It?s sad to think that Brad is so ambivalent about Angelina and their six children. Is Brad really so wishy-washy? Is he really so perturbed by Angelina working that he has to run to Aniston to complain and whine? On another level, the bullsh*t level, why are the tabloids so hellbent on trying to convince us that Aniston and Pitt had or have something that Brad and Angelina don?t?

After a split that?s more than four years old, can the friends of a divorced couple switch allegiances temporarily for a night? That?s what happened when Courteney Cox ran into Brad Pitt in Los Angeles. Courteney and her husband David Arquette were attending a concert at the Wiltern Theater when they saw Brad. Instead of ignoring Brad, Courteney went right up to him and started chatting. This is all according to Page Six, so it could be total crap. I don?t even know if Brad?s been in Los Angeles recently. But if it did happen, is it a big deal?
With friends like Courteney Cox, who needs enemies? Cox, who is supposedly best pals with her former “Friends” co-star Jennifer Aniston, was spotted chatting with Aniston’s ex-husband Brad Pitt at a concert Sunday night.
Cox was at the Wiltern Theater in LA with husband David Arquette for the final stop on rocker Chris Cornell’s Scream album tour when Pitt showed up.
Our backstage spy told us, “Instead of ignoring him, Courteney chatted away with Brad all night. The three were in great spirits and seemed really happy to see each other.”

Brad Pitt has always liked the finer things in life - he lives in gorgeous mansions, stays in the best hotels and resorts, wears the best suits, and collects the best art. ?Best? being a relative term, I suppose. In the past, Brad and Angelina have shelled out money for art that I would consider cheesy or overrated, like stuff by British ?artist? Banksy. Brad?s style has always been iffy (to me) because he seems to have a real love and affection for cold, sterile modern pieces rather than something more homey or kid-friendly.
This latest news could be nothing, but it has the ring of truth to it. Brad Pitt has set aside millions of dollars, in the hopes of expanding his extensive art collection. Art dealers are trying to woo him, in the hopes of a huge commission. But there has to be controversy, right? So, The Sun is saying that Brad is going to purchase all of this art behind Angelina?s back. Shocking!
Art lover Brad Pitt is setting aside millions of dollars to update his collection.
Dealers are trying to seduce him with various pieces but he knows what he wants ? works by names in big demand.
He has his eye on a drawing by American Richard Serra, a painting by Japan?s Yayoi Kusama and another drawing by Canadian Marcel Dzama.
The three are due to be sold at auctions in New York.
But Brad has to keep things quiet from his missus Angelina Jolie, who doesn?t share his passion.
I?m sure she realises he has an eye for the finer things in life.

I really doubt Angelina cares how Brad spends his money, especially if it?s for the art that he adores so much. But in this economy! Actually, if Brad has the cash, it?s probably a really good time to buy art. The art market?s bubble burst at the same time the economy flatlined this past fall, and wise investors are picking up major pieces by major artists for millions of dollars less than they would have two years ago.
As far as the actual artwork, I had to look up the artists. Richard Serra is mainly a sculptor, creating huge outdoor pieces in steel. Marcel Dzama works mostly with drawings and watercolors, and his work looks a little blah. Yayoi Kusama works with a lot of color for her paintings and other art pieces, and she?s by far the artist I could see the Jolie-Pitt kids embracing.

Time Magazine’s annual list of the one hundred most influential people in the world came out this weekend. Time splits up their lists into five categories: leaders & revolutionaries; builders & titans; artists & entertainers; heroes & icons; and scientists & thinkers. Several of the expected people made the list: President Obama, Secretary Clinton, President Sarkozy were all named in the leaders section. Artists and entertainers recognized included Penelope Cruz, Kate Winslet, John Legend, M.I.A., Rush Limbaugh, Tina Fey and Zac Efron.
What always strikes me as a celebrity-watcher is which celebrities made the list for a reason other than entertainment value. Angelina Jolie has made the list for several years, but this year she was forgotten, sort of. She wasn?t named one of the most influential people, but she did write a short essay about one of the ?Heroes?, a Cambodian women?s and children?s rights activist named Somaly Mam. Also on the ?Heroes & Icons? part of list, Time chose to include George Clooney (for his Darfur work, in an essay penned by Bono), Oprah Winfrey (essay by Michelle Obama), Sarah Palin (in an essay penned by Ann Coulter) and Michelle Obama (essay by Oprah).
One the most unexpected inclusions on the list was Brad Pitt - because he wasn?t named as an entertainer, hero or icon. Brad was included in the ?builders and titans? part, all for his work with Make It Right NOLA. In a surprisingly lovely essay, James Carville and Mary Matalin write about Brad?s affection and work for the city. Carville and Matalin are famously Democratic and Republican (respectively) political operatives and pundits, as well as a married couple raising their family in New Orleans. Here?s what they had to say about Brad:
During the civil rights movement, the distinction was made between those who would “talk the talk” ? i.e., attend parties, fundraisers and speeches ? and those who would be willing to “walk the walk” ? that is, use their bodies as a backstop for nightsticks and clubs.
In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the news media and New Orleans itself were inundated with people who were willing to talk the talk. And from this gaggle of talkers emerged one who took the long walk with our city.
Brad Pitt found, after listening to residents, that this horrible man-made disaster created an opportunity to build something better than what had existed before. We knew we were getting a Sexiest Man Alive, and we soon found we got the most committed one too.
At a time when New Orleans’ future ? and an entire culture ? hangs in the balance, one of the most sought-after actors in the world and our fellow New Orleanian hasn’t simply helped people; he’s also given them their lives back. Pitt, 45, has brought life and hope to the nation’s most unique city and one we’re proud to call home. In a place that has been described as “the city that care forgot,” it is a fact that Brad Pitt never forgot to care.

While Brad was out promoting The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, he said several times that this will be the year that the first phase of Make It Right NOLA will complete the initial 100 homes. Brad started the organization in 2005, only a few months after the Hurricane Katrina. There are already several homes up right now, and they have some really beautiful pictures of the eco-friendly homes up on the website.
Even though I usually hate the most beautiful or sexiest lists, I tend to enjoy both Time?s ?most influential? list, as well as their Person/people of the year lists. They?re always good reads, and usually the essays are thought-provoking and interesting. Some other notable reads were Ted Kennedy, essay by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Stella McCartney by Gwyneth ?GOOP? Paltrow, and M.I.A. by Spike Jonze.

In Touch Weekly?s cover story this week is an obvious one - ?Brad Takes The Kids? in huge, bold all-caps. It?s as if In Touch?s editors know they?re making something up, so they?re just to cover up their lie with a headline that should read ?Lalalala… I can?t hear you!?
The story seems overwhelmingly based on Brad?s recent trip to Niagara Falls with his oldest sons Pax and Maddox, and his parents Bill and Jane. You see, Angelina didn?t go with them to Niagara Falls. Thus ?Brad Takes The Kids?… to Niagara Falls. So, In Touch is still beating the drum that Brad and Angelina will split any minute now, and the purpose of the cover story is to try to figure out what?s going to happen with the kids. Who will get custody? Why is Angelina yelling at Brad all the time? Is Brad worried about his children?s welfare if he - gasp - unceremoniously dumps Angelina? Just so everyone?s caught up, the article starts out talking about how depressed Brad was at Niagara Falls:
[While] Brad was clearly trying to make it a fun day for the boys - and his visiting parents, Bill and Jane - there was no missing the sadness etched into his face.
At a breaking point in his relationship with Angelina Jolie, ?Brad is finding this time so much tougher than his divorce [from Jennifer Aniston],? says a confidante. ?With Jen, it was just the two of them, but with Angie, there are six kids involved.?
?He knows that he and Angie are over,? the confidante shares. ?They try to be civil, but they rarely speak these days without it erupting into a screaming match.?
Spending most of his time [with their kids] - and as little time with Angelina - Brad is trying to figure out what would happen if he had to share custody of the children.
But that may be easier said than done. According to the confidante, Angelina has threatened that she won?t give up the kids without a fight: ?He?s worried the kids are picking up on that.?
Brad?s parents, Jane and Bill, are aware of the severe rift [between Brad and Angelina]… even though there?s no love lost between them and Angelina, they are urging him to work things out with Angie so that he can still play a role in his children?s lives.
?Jane has been telling Brad, ?Those kids are what?s important, not you or Angie,?? the confidante says. But though Brad ?knows she?s right,? adds the source, he also understands that he can?t stay in such an unhappy relationship - and it?s upsetting him deeply.
And during the Niagara Falls trip, Angelina was conspicuously absent. Angelina - who was shooting in Albany, NY - could have easily made the trip to the falls to join them for the day, but she ?bailed out? a family friend says.
?She?s not about to just hand him the six kids. She will fight for full custody , and she?ll fight to the end.?

Obviously, that?s not the complete article. There was some more stuff about Angelina being a shrew, and Brad being a wishy-washy moron, but you get the point. In Touch also brought Dr. Gilda Carle back in to talk more about the Jolie-Pitt kids, whom she?s never met. Some will remember Dr. Gilda as the f*cking genius from a previous In Touch story about Brad flying to France alone to get away from Angelina. Dr. Gilda seemed to think at the time that if Brad and Angelina weren?t photographed together, they weren?t together at all, and ?that must be very confusing for the children.? I?m not making that up!
In the end of this week?s article, Dr. Carle is once again brought in, this time to discuss whether or not the kids will ever recover from Brad walking out. Dr. Gilda Carle, in her infinite wisdom, says, ?They call him Daddy, The whole family believes he is the father… The kids are no doubt going to be disoriented if they split.? Could the kids believe that Brad is their father because he is their father, Dr. Gilda? Oh, but I know what she?s really saying… she?s saying that because three of the children are adopted, Brad?s not their real father, and they won?t be as upset as the biological kids. I hope Dr. Gilda gets whatever banana republic college psychology degree revoked immediately.

Actually, Brad Pitt is in NYC filming a commercial with a sumo wrestler for a Japanese company called Softbank. Knowing that, cue the tentacle rape in 3… 2… 1.

Brad Pitt was out and about in New York yesterday - but he wasn?t schlepping around doing errands at the Stop & Shop. He was filming a commercial for Softbank, a Japanese cell phone company. Judging solely from the pictures, I think the gist of the commercial is that ?Famous Brad Pitt is actually a Servant?. Brad was seen carrying an umbrella- but not for himself - Brad ?stars? with a Japanese sumo wrestler.
This is not Brad?s first ad with Softbank. He filmed a commercial with them last year, when he was seen in France wearing a fruity canary-yellow suit and fedora. Gawker claimed that the ad was directed by Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums) That ad is here.
I really hope they?re paying him a lot of money for these ads, because they?re a little embarrassing. Brad has always supplemented his movie star income with commercials and print ads. In the past, he?s done advertising for Tag Heuer, Edwin Jeans and Dell Computers.

I know you're wondering to yourself how it's possible for the rain to fall on Willy Pitt's head since the heavens always open up and the sun's rays follow him wherever he goes. Brad was shooting a Japanese commercial in NYC and I guess they needed it to rain, so St. Angie probably put in a call to God. She asked him to tell the sun to quit that shit for a while, so Brad can make some money, because baby friends don't come cheap.
And I bet that when St. Angie visited the set, she mistook the sumo wrestler for an overgrown orphan baby and adopted him on the spot. So if you see Brad Pitt carrying around this sumo wrestler on his hip, you know the backstory.
