It?s never been any kind of secret that Brad Pitt loves his contemporary and modern art. He loves big, expensive pieces, too - big marble tables, Banksy sculptures, and now, a large, million-dollar oil painting by German artist Neo Rauch. Yesterday, the news broke that after Brad had gone to Washington to visit Angelina, he jetted off to Art Basel in Switzerland. Early indications were that he was looking to buy a work by American artist Jim Hodges. Turned out, Brad got into Neo Rauch instead. I was sort of rooting for the Hodges, actually. His work was prettier, and nine-foot wide racecar paintings aren?t for everyone - even if Brad meant this purchase to be a belated birthday gift for Angelina?s 34th.
A belated 34th birthday gift for Angelina?
On Tuesday, Brad Pitt dropped major bucks at Art Basel, an international art show for modern and contemporary works in Basel, Switzerland.
The actor spent $956,000 on a Neo Rauch oil painting, entitled Etappe, according to Bloomberg. The 9-foot-wide painting, done in 1998, shows a swirling view of a driver behind a red racecar, with workers nearby carrying hoses.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Pitt eyed the painting for several minutes while rubbing his goatee and fidgeting with his tweed hat. He initially walked away. “He’s on the fence. Nothing wrong with that, I guess,” New York dealer David Zwirner said.
But within minutes, Pitt returned with Los Angeles collectors Eli and Edythe Broad and made the big purchase.
It wasn’t the first time Pitt splurged on art.
Last year, he bought a white marble table by a Dutch designer and an aluminum rug by a Colombian designer at the same show.

According to the tabloids, Brad?s passion for art has consistently been a sore spot in his relationship with Angelina. First, Angelina wanted Brad to simply get rid of (sell?) his art collection. After that, it seemed the millions of dollars Brad dropped yearly on his art was one of their biggest fights. Most of Brad?s pieces will likely grow in value through the years, though. If he?s serious about his passion, he will likely hold on to this stuff for decades, or perhaps never sell the stuff. Who knows? Maybe Angelina told Brad before he left, ?Buy me something with racecars, please!?

Oh, if only walls could talk. But for tabloids, walls do talk. Not just walls - nannies, housekeepers, sycophantic handlers, friends, hairdressers, stylists, and of course, random unnamed sources will always talk to the tabloids. For Star Magazine?s cover story this week, it?s a limo driver. Specifically, the limo driver who drove Jennifer Aniston to a secret rendezvous with Brad Pitt at the Gramercy Park Hotel in Manhattan. If the limo driver was driving just Jennifer, how did he know who she was meeting at the hotel? Unless she told him. Unless Jennifer climbed into the limo and was all ?Oh my God, dude, I?m totally going to nail my ex-husband at the hotel once we get there! Make sure you tell Star Magazine!? After making secret plans for a 1 a.m. rendezvous, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston met at a New York City hotel and spent more than two hours together ? alone!
In a blockbuster exclusive in our June 22 issue, Star reveals that the driver who brought Jen to the chic Gramercy Park Hotel in Manhattan for a late-night get-together with her ex-husband says the former couple went to great lengths not to get caught.
“It was well planned so no one would see them,” says the driver, who explains that the pair spent more than two hours together in the back of the Gramercy’s nearly deserted 18th floor Private Roof Club and Garden. “They were really careful not to be spotted.”
And this wasn’t the first time Jen and Brad ? who have been phoning and texting with more frequency in recent weeks ? have hooked up. They were shuttled around New York City in a black SUV on April 23, sipping Starbucks coffee and chatting.

Star Magazine lost touch a while ago, no doubt. But what makes it worse is that the stories they?re referencing often originated in In Touch Weekly. In olden days, Star Magazine would work really hard to come up with the most original Brangelina bullsh-t out there - now they?re picking up In Touch?s scraps. Last week?s Brangelina story - about how Brad kept calling Jennifer to discuss what they would do about the six Jolie-Pitt children - was just gross and desperate.
Here?s the thing - I would actually buy that Jennifer would do some kind of undercover hotel assignation, but why does it have to be with Brad? Why not Bradley Cooper? Or just somebody else? I don?t begrudge Aniston the fundamental need to have hot hotel hookups? but mix it up!

Despite the fact that Brad Pitt was in California last week to begin filming the new Stephen Soderbergh film Moneyball, it doesn?t look like Brad had any interest in sticking around for some Californication this week. Yesterday, he was spied visiting the Washington set of Salt, where Angelina was at work. A witness told US Weekly that Brad?s incognito visit with Angelina made it seem like they were having ?lots of fun and looked so in love.? US Weekly also took the opportunity to repeat last week?s claim by Angelina?s representative that tabloid reports of Brangelina?s demise are untrue. So much for cold, sexless Angelina, I suppose:
Brad Pitt knows how to squeeze in a date!
The actor stopped the Washington, DC set of Anglina Jolie’s thriller Salt (out July 2010) Monday. He wasn’t photographed with any of their six kids.
Pitt looked casual in a newsboy cap, sunglasses and white T-shirt.
Jolie is back at work after suffering a minor injury. The actress, who just turned 34, was taken to the hospital late last month after bumping her head on set.
She and Pitt were last spotted together in Cannes in May, where they showed off PDA at the premiere of Pitt’s Inglorious Bastards.
“They had lots of fun and looked so in love,” a witness told Usmagazine.com.
Last Wednesday, Pitt’s rep confirmed to Us tabloid reports the couple was about to announce a breakup were “absolutely not true.”
Added Jolie’s manager to Us: “Not true at all.”

After visiting with his lover for a day, Brad jetted off to Switzerland to go to Art Basel, which is apparently ?the world’s premier international art show for Modern and contemporary works.? Brad was checking out works by the American artist Jim Hodges, works entitled ?end of knowledge?. I just looked at some of Hodges? work, and it is really cool. Lots of collages, works on paper. Pretty. Much better than the usual cold, modern, hard-edged pieces that Brad tends to pick out.
Not to get too ?oh my God, where are the kids?? but seriously, where are the kids? I suppose they?re with Angelina, in Washington? Will that be the new scandal?

In Touch Weekly has been banging the drum on Brangelina?s split for many months, even starting the rumor that Brad Pitt was texting intimate messages to his ex-wife, causing much disturbance between Brad and Angelina. Last week, In Touch seemed to be the only tabloid who saw Brad and Angelina fight like cats and dogs all the way through Cannes. This week, it?s just a continuation of that story line - Brad and Angelina consult the lawyers and fight over money. It writes itself.
One of the biggest plot-points of In Touch?s self-perpetuating drama was that Brad Pitt didn?t immediately fly back to New York to nurse Angelina back to health after she received an on-set head injury. Maybe because it was just a scratch, and Angelina went back to work the next day? Nevermind, call the damn lawyers!
Brad and Angelina?s relationship has been troubled for months. But now it appears to have reached its breaking point. In Touch can now reveal that the once-happy pair are consulting with lawyers in case they need to split.
According to one longtime friend, Angelina met with a high-profile LA celebrity attorney around Easter, when Brad was in France. Angelina would want to win custody of their children and would fight for them. Brad has been in touch with his lawyers also. He knows what is happening.
Brad would want 50/50 shared custody of [the six kids]. And while he?s happy to support the kids, he won?t give her a cent. ?They will each retain what they went into the relationship with,? the friend says.
Brad and Angelina, who are currently living on opposite coasts, aren?t ready to go public with their troubles.
?Brad and Angelina can barely stand to be in the same room with each other,? says another friend. ?It seems like they have both checked out of the relationship and are only pretending to be a couple.?
But not for long. Their friend says they?ll spend most of the summer apart, and announce their split when their children get used to the idea.
?Brad and Angelina may have fallen out of love a while back,? says the pal, ?but they both share an amazing love for their kids.?

Has anyone else taken note of the shifting timelines the tabloids keep giving for when Brad and Angelina will announce this split? One tabloid says ?give it a month,? while another says the ever-vague ?soon,? and now In Touch says ?when their children get used to the idea.? So, In Touch?s sources are good enough to know the exact conversation that took place in a Cannes hotel room, but for an actual date of a split, no one can say. Interesting. They also have a series of little pull-out info pieces about the division of property and assets, that sort of stuff. However, I can happily report that In Touch?s writers are no longer writing Brangelina haikus. Hurray!
* Brad and Angelina are still hammering out who will keep their $3.5 million house in the French Quarter. The pair purchased it together in 2007.
* Angie wants full custody, but they hashed out a tentative agreement for shared custody before the Cannes film festival, a source says.

Yes, because money is what drives Brad and Angelina both, and there?s so much documentation to prove that where? First, I always thought Angelina was the one who didn?t want to get married, and secondly, it doesn?t seem like Brad and Angelina ever really cared about how much money they spent, or on what. Money isn?t what drives either of them, in my opinion.

It?s no matter that the National Enquirer got there first, or that the Enquirer?s version was so wrong that Brad and Angelina denied it, because most of the tabloids are running stories about Brad and Angelina?s impending split. Star?s version is even worse than the Enquirer?s though - at this point, it?s like the tabloids are trying to one-up each other with how gross they can make their split stories.
This version… I?m not going to lie, if any of this report is true, Brad Pitt is a truly disgusting man and Jennifer Aniston needs to get a life. It’s doubtful that there’s a shred of truth to it, however. Star has Brad whining to Jennifer Aniston non-stop, and Jennifer listening and waiting patiently for Brad to dump Angelina. I suppose the subtext is that Brad can just up and leave Angelina, take the six kids and reunite with Jennifer, creating the perfect Angelina-less family. According to Star, Brad calls up Jennifer to whine about his non-existent sex life with Angelina, how Angelina makes him feel ?trapped? and ?tense?. The grossest statement is: ?He?s turning to [Jennifer] for comfort and advice as the chill between him and Angie grows.?
It?s still on! So what if Angelina Jolie went ballistic when she caught Brad Pitt talking to Jennifer Aniston. Star learned that Brad is still very much in touch with Jen - and she?s become his shoulder to cry on as he reveals intimate details of his rocky relationship with Angie.
?Brad told Jen, ?I feel trapped,?? a source tells Star. ?He says he can?t leave, but he doesn?t want to stay. He?s been confiding in Jen a lot lately… He?s really struggling. He loves the kids, but the constant traveling, the endless film shoots and Angie wanting more kids… the tension between them is taking its toll.?
The showdowns between Brad and Angie are getting so bitter that their sex life is non-existent,? a Pitt family friend tells Star. And they?re back to separate bedrooms again.

So, is any of this true? Star and In Touch wrote and published their stories before Brangelina?s formal split-denial, if you put stock into formal denials. I tend to think this is just yet another sad, pathetic ?Brad and Jennifer are reuniting? story, in a long line of similar stories over the past four years. If it was just about the eternal uncool Bermuda Triangle, all adults, it wouldn?t be so gross, in my opinion. What disturbs me is all of the stuff about the kids, and the idea that Brad is discussing leaving or taking his children.

Brad and Angelina are still as perfect as ever with the perfect multi-cultural family and millions of dollars in the bank. So, wipe that big grin off your face and get back to making those chai lattes knowing that there are people out there who lead perfect lives and that you’re not one of them. Contrary to the rumour started by the National Enquirer yesterday, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are not splitting up, says their rep. From People:
Rumors of a breakup are “not true,” says the rep.
Reports surfaced Wednesday that Pitt and Jolie, who are parents to six children, were planning to make a split “official.” The reports stemmed from a story in the National Enquirer.
Just last month, the couple made a glamorous appearance together on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival where Pitt’s new film, Inglourious Basterds, premiered. Jolie has also been filming her upcoming movie, Salt.
Ugh. Whatever. I told y’all that you can’t believe a damn thing from the Enquirer when the news is slow. They outright make stuff up when there’s no real headlines. By Friday, they’ll no doubt be running a story that Brad and Angie have set a wedding date and are moving forward with plans for Adventureland Panama.

People Magazine is running a brief denial of the split rumors from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s rep, who only says that the story is “not true.”. US Weekly has the quote that it’s “absolutely not true” that they’re breaking up. Yesterday we heard the details of an upcoming National Enquirer story which claims that the couple is “officially splitting” after four years and six children together. That report seems to be based on the news that Brad will have to be in LA for work while Angelina plans to either retreat to their French villa with the children or stay in NY to finish Salt.
Many of you were skeptical of the Enquirer’s account and thought it was primarily speculative, but others thought it had a whiff of truth and that there must be something wrong with these two. I’m divided, but tend to agree with Kaiser - these two probably fight and have problems like most couples, but the reports that they’re breaking up and fighting like cats and dogs are way overblown. These are arguably the two most famous people in the world, and they move gossip magazines like no one else. How many times have we heard that they’re breaking up? So far it hasn’t been true at all and they’ve remained committed to each other and to their family.
Pay attention to how the Enquirer words their insider statement, it’s like they’re hedging their bets: “Brad and Angelina will make appearances together from time to time, and he?ll meet up with the kids when he can. But make no mistake, this is a major split.” So we can assume they’re broken up, even as they’re seen together and continue to raise their kids together? It sounds more like dad has to be away for a little while to work.
Besides, I think they’re expanding their family. Angelina loves having kids and she’s not as bone thin as she used to be. I think she’s knocked up again, as controversial as that is to say. Wait and see.

Brad and Angelina are going their separate ways with the hope of reuniting in the future if they can repair their volatile relationship, disclosed an insider.
“They will make it official. It looks like Brad will be shooting two movies in California and in the Amazon, while Angelina is retreating to their French chateau with the rest of the family.
“It’s an official split.”
If the strong-willed couple can’t find a way to get back together, sources say the breakup could turn into an ugly court battle over their $200 million fortune and the custody of their six children.
The deciding moment for the pair came when they had strained words with each other while in Cannes, France, for the screening of Brad’s new movie Inglourious Basterds.
They put on a romantic show in front of the media, but Angie, 34, and Brad, 45, become frosty as soon as the spotlight was off, say friends.
A jealous Angelina was said to be incensed over the attention Brad was getting from other women, having argued recently over Brad’s continued contact with ex-wife Jennifer Aniston.

It is, of course, theoretically possible that this is true, but there are a few things you should keep in mind here. First, magazines like the Enquirer have been declaring Brad & Angelina broken up and/or engaged every few days for the past five years. Second, it’s been an incredibly slow few weeks in celebrity news, and the Enquirer’s general philosophy is that when there’s no real news, they just write their own.
So sure, maybe Brad and Angie are splitting up. They also might be looking into purchasing the country of Panama to turn it into an adventureland for their kids, or they could be considering making themselves a sovereign nation and declaring war on Belgium. Anything’s possible.

According to their sources, it is an ?official split? and a ?major split?. Brad will be shooting three films back-to-back in California and South America while Angelina takes the kids to the French chateau for an extended holiday after she completes Salt. This seems based on the story we did yesterday, about Brad being in Los Angeles for a few weeks without Angelina. We?ve yet to get any kind of confirmation on Angelina?s plans after she finishes Salt. She could be going to France, she could be headed to LA, who knows.

The National Enquirer has literally gone from rosy stories about how Brad and Angelina were so in love while in Cannes, to a week later and there?s a major split. Did they get it wrong then or now? My guess is a little of both. Brad and Angelina are probably still together, but of course, they have issues. They probably both have moments where they want to kill each other. In my mind, Angelina spent a lot of time looking at Brad?s horrible mustache and thought to herself ?I wish I could bash his head in with a wine bottle.? Yesterday, a lot of commenters pointed out that a couple can spend a few days or a few weeks apart without the world ending. So what?s really happening in Brangelina-ville?
