Here?s the one nice thing I?ll say about Kate Winslet in this post: I really love her outfit in the above photo. Beautiful trousers, beautiful blouse, and a fantastic coat. Usually I hate her style, but she looks great in this kind of office-work attire. Anyway, these are some pics from Winslet?s promotional stop in New York last week. She?s promoting Wonder Wheel, which was written and directed by Woody Allen, and she?s pretty much expecting an Oscar nomination for this. I don?t think it?s going to happen, mostly because the critical response has been mixed-to-bad. It?s an odd year for the actress nominations – in that it feels particularly loaded for a change – and so I really don?t think Winslet will get much more than a Golden Globe nomination. And even then, maybe not, because it?s a Woody Allen film.
So, Winslet is promoting this film and her publicist must be giving strict instructions to reporters to not ask Winslet any further questions about Allen. Or rather, any questions about Dylan Farrow and her accusations. So instead we get Winslet unironically saying that Woody Allen knows women so well that he?s probably a woman. Girl, stop. Some highlights from this terrible Sydney Morning Herald piece:
Winslet thinks Woody is a woman: “I think on some level Woody is a woman,” Winslet jokes as she ponders the question of just how the filmmaker continually creates such memorable female characters. “I just think he’s very in touch with that side of himself. He understands the female characters he creates exceptionally well,. His female characters are always so rich and large and honest in terms of how they’re feeling and he just knows how to write dialogue for them to communicate all that.”
She didn?t want to be too influenced by Woody?s Tennessee Williams influences: “We’ve seen such extraordinary performances ? particularly from women ? in Woody’s films and I wanted to join those great women but only by making her my own person and staying away from any cliches.?
Woody Allen on ?the biggest misconception? about who he really is: “People think I am an intellectual because I wear these glasses and they think I am an artist because my films lose money so it’s a great image but it’s not me. I am the person that is home with a beer in front of the football game on television, not upstairs with a book on Danish philosophy.”
Woody credit his wife Soon-Yi Previn for inspiring him to continually write strong female characters. “She’s got a very domineering personality and is hyper competent and I’m hyper incompetent and can’t work the TV set without calling her into the room. She handles all the money and I get a small allowance of $35 every couple of weeks from her and I’m fine with that because she takes a huge amount of tedious responsibility off me and I’m confident she knows what she’s doing and I don’t!”
[From SMH]
Is it cool if I feel sick to my stomach after reading this mess? Kate Winslet is like one week away from declaring Woody Allen the feminist of the year. And Woody crediting his daughter-wife for helping him write female characters?? MY GOD. It?s like neither of them can even hear how crazy and awful they sound. Maybe Woody and Winslet actually deserve each other??

| Kate Winslet didn't thank Weinstein when she won her Oscar: 'that was deliberate' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
I forgot about this already, but in the initial flurry of celebrity statements about Harvey Weinstein last week, Kate Winslet was one of the first to put out a statement of support for the victims. Winslet said, in part: ?The fact that these women are starting to speak out about the gross misconduct of one of our most important and well regarded film producers, is incredibly brave and has been deeply shocking to hear…I fully embrace and salute their profound courage, and I unequivocally support this level of very necessary exposure of someone who has behaved in reprehensible and disgusting ways.? Except that as it turns out, Kate Winslet wasn?t all that shocked. I mean, she seems to maintain the idea that she had no idea Weinstein was and is a sexual predator. But she knew he was a bully and an a-hole long ago. From her interview with the LA Times:
She didn?t thank Weinstein when she won her Oscar in 2009: ?That was deliberate. That was absolutely deliberate. I remember being told. ?Make sure you thank Harvey if you win.? And I remember turning around and saying, ?No I won?t. No I won?t.? And it was nothing to do with not being grateful. If people aren?t well-behaved, why would I thank him? The fact that I?m never going to have to deal with Harvey Weinstein again as long as I live is one of the best things that?s ever happened and I’m sure the feeling is universal.?
He took credit for putting her in her first film role in Heavenly Creatures: ?For my whole career, Harvey Weinstein, whenever I?ve bumped into him, he?d grab my arm and say, ?Don?t forget who gave you your first movie.? Like I owe him everything. Then later, with ?The Reader,? same thing, ?I?m gonna get you that Oscar nomination, I?m gonna get you a win, I?m gonna win for you.? But that?s how he operated. He was bullying and nasty. Going on a business level, he was always very, very hard to deal with ? he was rude. He used to call my female agent a [vulgar name for a woman] every time he spoke to her on the telephone.?
Weinstein badgered Sydney Pollack on his deathbed and harassed the widow of Anthony Minghella in 2008 (both were producers on ?The Reader?): ?I can?t even begin to describe the disgraceful behavior that went on ? and I?m actually not going to because it?s a can of worms that I?m not prepared to publicly open ? nothing to do with sexual harassment, thankfully, lucky me. My god. I somehow dodged that bullet.?
Weinstein shut down production on ?The Reader? even though they needed four more days of filming: ?We still had a full four days of shooting of very key scenes that for me ? as a person playing that part ? were absolutely crucial to the story and to Stephen Daldry, they were as well. And Harvey just decided, ?OK, we?re done. No more money. I?m pulling the plug.? We had to stop and were sent home. That was it. And again, this is just on the business side of things, but he was always, always very, very, very unpleasant to deal with. Very.?
?The Reader? was the last time she worked with Weinstein: ?Damn right. I … stand up for myself and I don?t pander to what you?re supposed to do and what you?re not supposed to do. I won?t be pushed around or bullied by anyone. I was bullied as a child. Never again. Certainly not by Harvey Weinstein.?
[From The LA Times]
I?d forgotten about all of that behind-the-scenes stuff with The Reader. Maybe I just ignored it when that information came out because I despised that movie so much and I always felt like? Winslet should have won for a different role. Sense & Sensibility would have been the ideal movie for her to win an Oscar, looking back on her filmography, right? She should have won for S&S, or maybe Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind because holy sh-t that was a crazy movie, but definitely not for The Reader. Anyway, I believe that Weinstein harassed Sydney Pollack on his deathbed and harassed Anthony Minghella?s widow. I believe that Weinstein called Winslet?s agent the C-word. I believe Winslet refused to thank Weinstein on purpose.
I do have to wonder though? if Kate Winslet is a bit like Jennifer Lawrence, in that she has a high tolerance for douchebags, and the convenient ability to put aside her belief system when it?s for a good role. Winslet did this interview as part of the press around her latest film, Wonder Wheel, directed by Woody Allen. In an interview last month, Kate even namechecked Roman Polanski, an admitted rapist, as a ?incredible director.? Kate should be believed when she talks about Weinstein?s appalling behavior – just as we should believe her when she talks about how she thinks Woody Allen and Roman Polanski are totes brilliant.

| Kate Winslet agrees to Avatar sequels, which aren't coming for years anyway | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I never saw Avatar, does that make me a bad person? What if I said I never saw it because I never wanted to? So, it remains to be seen if I will catch any of the four Avatar sequels planned, but I wouldn?t hold my breath if I were you. Especially because the first sequel doesn?t arrive until 2020. One person that will catch the sequel is Kate Winslet who it was just announced will be playing the role of Ronal, whoever that is. Of course, outlets are all a-titter because this pairs Kate with her Titanic director James Cameron and that went over so well the first time, surely lightening will strike twice, right? Never mind that there isn’t anything remotely similar about the two movies ? it?s Winslet and Cameron together again! And according to Cameron, they are super stoked to work together again! Mm?kay.
Kate WinsletandJames Cameronhave a little history. Two decades ago she starred in his global juggernautTitanic, which was the top-grossing film of all time until Cameron?sAvatarcame along in 2009. Now the two are reuniting for the first time since the Big Boat sailed ? Winslet has signed on for a starring role in the ongoingAvataradventureat Fox.
?Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration onTitanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career,? Cameron said. ?I can?t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.?
Production for all four plannedAvatarsequels officially began on September 25 in Manhattan Beach, CA. The first film will be released on December 18, 2020. The second sequel will open on December 17, 2021, followed byAvatar 4in December 20, 2024 andAvatar 5on December 19, 2025.
[From Deadline]
?Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years,? is that so? Because 20 years ago, Kate told the LA Times, “I would only work for Jim Cameron again for a lot of money,? in large part because Cameron was such a colossal horse?s @ss on the set of Titanic. He reportedly liked to practically drown his cast and when they they?d get their heads back above water, he?d scream at them. He also assigned cute nicknames for some. As for Kate, who was bullied her whole life for her weight, self-proclaimed women’s champion Cameron called her Kate Weighs-A-Lot. Cameron’s response to Kate?s comments? She was, ?just letting off a little steam,? because her career was riding on carrying Titanic. Hmm, that might be part of it but let?s not discount the ?Cameron?s a horse?s @ss? part. Later, when Kate commented on how the movie?s signatures (the song, the bow of the boat pose, the sinking) followed her everywhere, Cameron suggested, ?it?s been 16 years, like, come on, Kate. Get over it.? She wasn?t even criticizing the movie, she just doesn?t want people singing My Heart Will Go On every time she walks in a room.
However, just five years ago, Kate did change her tune. When the 3D version of Titanic was released in 2012, Kate was asked about Cameron?s behavior and she softened her answer to include the caveat, ?Yes, he lost his temper, but he only ever lost his temper for really, really good reasons.” I think it?s all true. I think Titanic was stressful because of its size and the conditions, I think Cameron was wretched on set and thought everyone should just thank him for being a part of his movie and I think he offered Kate a ton of money to work on the Avatar sequel. I know Avatar was popular and I?m sure it was a good film. But honestly, the only way I am going to get excited about its sequel is if they hire Leonardo DiCaprio to play a character named Papyrus.

| Kate Winslet met her husband, Ned RockNRoll, in a house fire on Branson's island | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
|
When Kate Winslet met her husband, they got on like a house on fire ? literally. Mr. Kate Winslet was once Abel Smith but now goes by Ned RockNRoll, for which I?ll never be able to take him seriously. He is also Sir Richard Branson?s nephew. Back in August of 2011, Branson was hosting an assortment of friends and family – like Kate and AbelNed – on his privately-owned Necker Island, which is one of the British Virgin Islands. All was swell until Hurricane Irene whipped through and her lightning set the mansion ablaze, forcing those in it, including Kate and her children, to run for their lives. Apparently, it was during this exodus that Kate met Ned for the first time and his ability to think clearly under pressure won her over. So much so, she married him.
Kate Winslet’s upcoming drama The Mountain Between Us tells the story of two plane crash survivors who fall in love while trying to stay alive in the wilderness. As it turns out, the idea finding love amidst chaos is something Winslet is actually quite familiar with.
ET’s Cameron Mathison caught up with Winslet and her co-star, Idris Elba, at a junket for their romantic drama on Saturday, and the Oscar-winning actress opened up about how she and her husband, Ned Rocknroll, met under potentially disastrous circumstances.
“I met my husband in a house fire,” Winslet recalled. The fire in question occurred in August 2011 when Winslet and her kids — daughter Mia and son Joe — were vacationing on Necker Island, the privately owned resort island belonging to billionaire Richard Branson. Rocknroll, Branson’s nephew, was staying on the island in an adjacent residence.
“He was the only dude to have a head torch and a pair of shoes, everyone else left everything behind,” the Titanic star recounted. “I took a bra and passports and my children.”
“So I married him!” she added, laughing. “I was like, ‘I’ll go for the guy with a head torch!’”
[From ET]
I can just picture the book jacket to that romance novel. Except there are few details missing from Kate?s story which she’s previously shared. Like the part where Kate saved Branson?s mother, Eve. Only Eve revealed that Kate didn’t really save her, but merely carried her down four steps so that Kate and her children could pass her and get out of the house. Also, where was Kate?s boyfriend Louis Dowler, who was staying with Kate on the island? We know Kate left that trip with still-married-at-the-time Ned but if she only met him the night of the fire, where was Louis during the chaos? I get that the fire, which everyone survived fortunately, was a terrifying night but Kate seems to rewrite the narrative periodically.
Sadly, just as Irene wreaked havoc on Necker Island, so too did Irma. Once again, Branson?s homes and surrounding area were brutalized by the hurricane, which was still Cat. 5 as it passed through the British Virgin Islands and once again, Branson was on Necker at the time. Thankfully, no one on Necker was hurt. Branson said they found safety in the great house?s solid basement that, coincidentally, also serves as a wine cellar. (Talk about finding a silver lining.) Branson remains in the area, dedicated to assisting the government?s efforts in rehabilitating BVI in the wake Irma?s devastation.

| Kate Winslet was bullied at school: 'They called me blubber' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
Kate Winslet spoke at the WE Day U.K. event on Wednesday about being bullied in school, a subject she has touched on before. At the event, Kate went into further detail about how she was often picked on for her weight and for her pursuit of an acting career. Bringing the two together, her tormenters would tell her to be prepared to be happy with ?fat girl parts.? Although all the ostracizing chipped away at her self-esteem, it was her love of acting that ultimately brought her happiness and confidence. Now that she can flaunt a successful career that includes several awards, Kate wants to share what she overcame to get there to help others possibly suffering form the same negative influences.
Getting the last laugh.Kate Winsletgot candid about being bullied as a child during a talk at the fourth annual WE Day U.K. event Wednesday, March 22, telling the audience that she was called names and made fun of for her weight from an early age.
?I was always comparing myself to others,? she told the audience of approximately 12,000, including numerous youngsters. ?They called me ?Blubber?; they teased me for wanting to act. Locked me in the cupboard and would laugh at me. I wasn?t the prettiest, and I was even told that I?d be lucky in my acting if I was happy to settle for the fat girl parts. I?d never let go of that, and they?d say, ?You?re just not what we?re looking for, Kate.? This unkindness made me feel truly horrendous.?
Winslet, 41, added that she always felt like she ?wasn?t enough? and that she ?didn?t look right.? But ultimately, she chose to ignore the negativity and worked hard to become the celebrated actress that she is today ? though it was by no means an easy task.
?I was always auditioning for the school plays,? she said. ?I didn?t really get very good parts, mind you, but I didn?t mind. I didn?t care. I would often get cast as the crocodile, or the scarecrow, or the dark fairy. I was even a dancing frog once. But it didn?t matter. I still loved it. I loved acting. It didn?t matter how big or small the parts were. I wanted to be great, and I was determined to keep learning.? ?
[From US]
Hand to God ? I am having both my children read Blubber presently ? one read it and handed it off to the other who is halfway through. My son and I spent over two hours discussing it the night he finished. Even though we talked about the characters and events in the story, we both knew we weren?t discussing the book. It?s shocking how relevant it is today. I know I have said this before but I highly recommend it to anyone as an excellent resource to discuss bullying.
But I didn?t write this just to plug books from my childhood (although I could write an entire post discussing books from my childhood) but to applaud Kate for reaching out to the younger generation and letting them know that no one is immune to the cruelness of others. And it’s always crueler when kids are involved. I mean, I know Kate has a lovely life and an Oscar to punctuate her impressive acting career and even knowing that, her comments about being locked in the cupboard made my heart hurt. I find it so interesting that although her acting was used against her, her love of it saw her through. She didn?t act for the recognition, primarily because it doesn?t sound like she got any, but just for the enjoyment she got from doing it. And ultimately, it was her salvation. That?s a lovely story. Almost a Hollywood ending, if you will.
However, since I possess a cold, dead heart, I don?t want to end with warm hugs. I?d rather end on Kate?s thoughts on the Today show last year when she spoke about this subject. After listing how good her current life is, she said to her bullies, ?Look at me now, girls.? Ha!
Speaking of the best revenge – macking on Idris would be right up there

| Star: Kate Winslet's marriage to man-child Ned RockNRoll is 'on shaky ground' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
This spring, Kate Winslet was in New York filming Collateral Beauty. Then in September, she was filming in New York again, this time being directed by Woody Allen. I?m mentioning this because Kate was photographed a lot on both sets, and there are consistent paparazzi photos of her throughout this year? but it doesn?t seem like she?s been photographed with her husband, Ned RocknRoll, since the SAG Awards back in January. Is this suspicious? We?ve heard for years that Ned is pretty much Kate?s house-husband, and he stays at home and raises the kids while she works. But before the past year, we would see Kate out and about with Ned at premieres, galas and so on every few months. So? is there trouble in paradise?
Third time just hasn?t been the charm for Kate Winslet. Sources tell Star the seven-time Oscar nominee?s marriage to Ned Rocknroll is on shaky ground as the pair approach their fourth anniversary.
?Ned is like a little kid, but Kate?s already got three,? spills a source close to the twice-divorced actress, 41. ?Nowadays, when you ask Kate about Ned, she just sighs and says, ?Sometimes I feel like he?s just along for the ride.?? And perhaps he is. Kate?s kept man, 38, allegedly quit his job as head of marketing promotion and astronaut experience at Virgin Galactic shortly after they wed!
Kate, however, has got her hands full. ?She shoots two to three movies a year on top of taking care of Mia, Joe and Bear,? says the pal, leaving her little time to look after Ned too. ?And when something?s got to give, it?s usually been her marriage.?
[From Star Magazine, print edition]
You’re trying to tell me that a grown-ass man who legally changed his name to “Ned RockNRoll” is an immature man-baby? NO. I DO NOT BELIEVE IT. I know a good number of people will say ?it?s Star, so of course it?s bulls?t!? But it feels like there?s some kind of vein of truth here. It?s the weirdest thing. I do think Winslet is the kind of person who gets bored in relationships/marriages when everything becomes routine. I also imagine that?s compounded when she?s the sole breadwinner of the marriage. Plus, we rarely hear gossip about Winslet?s marriage, so when we do, I?m always like ?Huh, someone might have a reliable source on this!? Maybe it?s nothing, who knows?

The day before Woody Allen?s Caf Society premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year, Ronan Farrow published a lengthy op-ed in the Hollywood Reporter. Farrow mostly took the press to task for ignoring the many controversies around Woody Allen, much like Bill Cosby?s serial rape and sexual abuse was swept under the rug for decades. Ronan?s op-ed had the desired effect: it gave reporters at Cannes an opening to question Woody and the actors of Caf Society about Dylan Farrow?s allegations of abuse and molestation. Since Woody isn?t used to being asked direct questions about it, he came across poorly, let?s just say that. It was also difficult for the actors of Caf Society to be questioned so directly about why they chose to work with Woody. It felt like a watershed moment in how the media handles Woody and the people who choose to work with Woody. It felt like actors were no longer going to get a pass for signing on to his films. So what do you make of this?
Woody Allen?s latest film, ?Cafe Society,? hasn?t hit theaters yet, but the filmmaker is already moving on to his next project. Sources tell Variety that Kate Winslet is in final negotiations to star in Allen?s next movie, which will shoot this fall. Allen is writing, directing and producing the untitled pic, and like all his recent films, plot details are being heavily guarded.
As usual, Letty Aronson and Edward Walson will produce. The film hasn?t found a distributor yet, although Amazon seems to be a likely destination, given Allen?s recent relationship with the studio. Though Winslet?s career has spanned more than two decades, the actress has never worked with the auteur prior to this pic.
[From Variety]
As I?ve documented before, I used to really adore Kate Winslet. She?s a spectacular actress, or she was spectacular at one time. But I?m really over her at this point. She didn?t deserve the Oscar nomination for Steve Jobs this year (she was the worst part of the film), she?s constantly saying stupid and offensive sh-t, and oh right, she worked with Roman Polanski several years ago and defended working with him too. So it seems pretty obvious that Winslet would want to work with Woody Allen. And you know that press tour is going to be messy as hell too.

| Kate Winslet: what's vulgar 'is talking publicly about actual earning of money' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
Here are some photos of Kate Winslet at the Palm Springs International Film Festival over the weekend. Kate wore a sleek Roland Mouret gown with a very familiar silhouette. The past few years, Kate has worn a seemingly endless succession of similar gowns, usually Mouret or Stella McCartney. I don?t hate it, honestly. I feel like she?s never really been a ?fashion girl,? so she?s just sticking with something comfortable and familiar. While Kate has scored Best Supporting Actress nominations at the Golden Globes and SAGs, I?m really, really hoping she gets snubbed for an Oscar nomination for Steve Jobs. She was the worst part of that movie.
Meanwhile, back in November, Kate got a lot of pushback and WTFs when she said some words during a BBC interview. Honestly, her entire Steve Jobs promotional tour was a mess and the whole thing made me realize that she?s really stuck up her own ass for the most part. But during the BBC interview, Winslet was asked about Jennifer Lawrence?s wage inequality essay and Kate shut down the conversation by saying that the whole discussion was ?vulgar? and ?strange? and that we shouldn?t be talking about any of this publicly. While at the PSIFF, she was asked about her ?vulgar? statement, and this is what she said:
Kate Winslet says previous comments she made about the hot button issue were “misinterpreted” when she described public discussion of salaries as “vulgar.”
“When you’re talking about specifics of pay that is a line of questioning I really had a hard time with,” the Oscar winner told me exclusively last night at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. “So my remarks were in response to that but only that. Of course we should be paid the same as the boys. We want to stand alongside them.”
Winslet praised her fellow Oscar winner’s response as “entirely appropriate. It was a very difficult situation for her. Hopefully these discussions will continue to support the efforts that are being made all over the world for the right to equal pay in this field and all other industries. For my entire career, I’ve really stood for women’s rights and I will always remain entirely committed to empowering women and the right to equal pay is a fundamental part of that. Of course women should be paid the same as men. Of course they should. Of course I should.”
[From E! News]
I said at the time that her ?vulgar? comment was mostly about being British and not wanting to discuss money whatsoever, but I also thought (at the time) that Winslet was wrong to shut down the conversation and seemingly insult Jennifer Lawrence. If Winslet doesn?t want to talk about money, sure. Don?t talk about money. But don?t dismiss the conversation out of hand just because you?re uncomfortable.
Kate was also asked about her ?vulgar? comment when she sat down for an interview with CBS Sunday Morning (you can see the full video here). She discussed other things, of course, like how she was ?bullied,? how she was so brave to wear a brown wig for Steve Jobs, etc. But this answer about the vulgar question:
?What I think is vulgar is talking publicly about actual earning of money. Even as I?m saying it now, I?m feeling a bit sick in my mouth. I?m British, we don?t do that. Jennifer put it brilliantly; she did it so gracefully and graciously. What I object to, unfortunately, is the line of questioning that it almost gives journalists permission to open with, which I don?t like. I fully had a journalist say to me, ?Do you know if you got paid more or less than Michael Fassbender?? I don?t ever want to be asked that question. I certainly wouldn?t answer it. That?s what makes it difficult. Would it make it better if I told you that if I?m ever in a situation where I feel like there?s something unfair happening, that I always stand up for myself? Would that make you feel better??
[Via CBS Sunday Morning]
If her answer sounds awkward and strangled, it?s because it was. You could feel her discomfort and props to the CBS journalist for not saying anything and letting Winslet talk herself into a circle. I mean, we get that Winslet (and other British people) think talking about money is vulgar. But Winslet is so stuck up her own ass she doesn?t get that not everything is about her and her feelings. She comes from a place of enormous privilege and instead of sticking up for women around the world (which Winslet insists she does), she makes it all about what journalists should and should not ask her, because she lives in a vulgar bubble of privilege, amirite?

| Kate Winslet 'banned' her kids from social media because 'eating disorders' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
I saw Steve Jobs a few weekends ago and I thought Kate Winslet was okay in it. Even though her promotion around the film was all about how ?brave? and ?without ego? she was to dare to wear brown wigs and play a character who was Polish-American (how shocking), at the end of the day, I found myself wondering how I would have felt about the character if the part had been played by a different actress. I do think Winslet was miscast, her accent work was hit-or-miss and the wigs were kind of terrible. Another part of the Winslet?s promotional work? Talking about how her kids don?t have iPhones or? any phones, I guess. She?s ?relented? and admitted that they need computers, but no smartphones. And no social media, apparently.
She stars in Steve Jobs, but that doesn’t mean Kate Winslet is a technology superfan. In an interview with the Sunday Times, the Oscar-winning actress revealed that she has completely banned all forms of social media in her house.
“It has a huge impact on young women’s self-esteem, because all they ever do is design themselves for people to like them,” Winslet, 40, said. “And what comes along with that? Eating disorders. And that makes my blood boil. And is the reason we don’t have any social media in our house.”
The actress is mother to daughter Mia, 15, and sons Joe, 11, and Bear, 22 months. She also told the Times that besides limiting social media, she and her husband Ned Rocknroll also try to cut down on their family’s usage of phones and tablets.
“Let your kids climb trees. Take the device out of their hand. Play Monopoly!” Winslet says. “You go to a cafe and grown-ups are at one end of the table and children the other, on devices, not looking up.”
She continues, “They go into a world and parents let them. … It takes every member of a family to be a member, and there are too many interruptions these days ? and devices are a huge interruption.”
However, Winslet was quick to add that she doesn’t want to come off like a spokesperson for being anti-digital and that she’s not “another celebrity on a soapbox thinking they’ve got the answers.”
[From People]
I always feel like it?s a bit tricky to say ?social media causes eating disorders? or ?social media destroys kids? or whatever. Social media is a tool, like anything else, and it can be used for good or for evil. Social media doesn?t CAUSE eating disorders but the media and social-media-industrial complexes contribute to girls and women having low self-esteem, just as social media has become a TOOL for bullies and trolls. Anyway, I don?t really blame her for not allowing her kids to be on social media ? that?s her right and she can parent her children however she sees fit. But you know Mia is going to be on Facebook/Twitter/whatever in a few years anyway (Mia is 15 years old now).

Here are some photos from last night?s London Film Festival closing night premiere of Steve Jobs. I?m just doing photos of Kate Winslet and Michael Fassbender, if that?s alright. I like Danny Boyle but I don?t need to see photos of him, you know? Winslet has been gushing about Fassbender in interview after interview and I do think she?s got a little crush on him. He seemed happy enough to grab onto her for the red carpet, and it makes me realize that we?ve never seen him pose like this with a girlfriend, not even when he dates his costars. Kate?s dress is Alexander McQueen and it?s? a really boring navy dress.
Fassy has been saying words to promote the film, of course, but there?s something notably different this time around: Fassy is being cautious. He?s not complaining, he?s not making pronouncements about how he?s not going to campaign for an Oscar or any of that. He?s playing it very safe. Some assorted quotes:
Steve Jobs was flawed: “Steve Jobs tried to make products that are not poorly made, but maybe that was to make up for his own shortcomings. All of his energy goes into these products he’s creating, while his own life suffers.”
Fassy doesn?t see Jobs as cruel: “I played him with the utmost respect. I never tried to play him as a cruel person, but as somebody who was passionate about his vision. He pushed for the best, sometimes to the breaking point. But when you’re changing the world in such Teutonic kind of way, then maybe that’s what is required.”
The Jobs? family & their reactions: ?It did make me hesitate. I was worried about how their late father, husband and friend would be portrayed and that weighed on my conscience. There was a responsibility, for sure. But I have to get on with my job. I approached it with utmost respect for Jobs and his family and by no means did I set out to betray them. If they do see it, I hope they are not hurt by it because that’s not my intention.?

He says that part about the family because, as we know now, Steve Jobs? widow was calling up some of the big names in Hollywood and asking them/begging them not to play Jobs. She called Christian Bale and Leo DiCaprio specifically and asked them not to play Jobs, which is how Fassbender got the part in the first place ? he was easily the third or fourth choice. And now he?s being discussed as one of the leading contenders for the Best Actor Oscar. Just goes to show ya.
