Another week, another beauty poll. This one is bit more interesting, though. Kate Winslet has been named ?The Ultimate Natural Beauty?, beating out Audrey Hepburn. Considering Audrey?s inclusion on the list, I can only guess that natural beauties of all time were being judged. In fact, only Britons were polled, and they were looking for ?a classic English rose complexion without needing lots of make-up to look stunning?. Audrey was absolutely gorgeous, but she wasn?t an English rose.
Kate Winslet is obviously one of the most naturally beautiful women in the world today, if not ever. So I?m happy that she ?won? the title. But the other women on the list denigrate Kate?s prize. Kelly Brook? Cheryl Cole? Really? They?re lovely women, but if it?s a judgment of naturally beautiful women of all time, where?s Grace Kelly? Where?s Katherine Hepburn? Where?s Elizabeth Taylor? Obviously, the list isn?t just for British women, or they wouldn?t have put Angelina Jolie and Audrey on the list.
Brit Oscar winner Kate Winslet has beaten movie legend Audrey Hepburn to the title of Ultimate Natural Beauty.
The Reader actress was hailed for having ?a classic English rose complexion without needing lots of make-up to look stunning?, in a survey of 3,000 men and women.
Kate, 33, pipped Breakfast At Tiffany?s star Hepburn. Kelly Brook was third, followed by Cheryl Cole, Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson.

So who would have made my Natural Beauty/English Rose list? What about the most famous English rose of them all, Princess Diana? Or Vivien Leigh? People always forget just how beautiful Vivien Leigh was, but she was definitely one of the most stunning English rose-types to ever come out of England.
Why aren?t there lists like this for men? Which men are the loveliest, most natural English roses of them all? Clive Owen can?t make the list. Even though I think he?s naturally gorgeous, it?s more in a ?tie me up please? sort of way rather than a ?look at his skin? sort of way. You know who was just beautiful when he was young? Peter O?Toole. He was prettier than most women. It would make my life if one day, Peter O?Toole won one of these fake ?Most Beautiful? contests.

There are certain moments in the career of an actress that let her know how successful she is. Her first role. Her first starring role. Her first blockbuster. Her first minor award nomination. Her first Oscar. Her first time being offered the cover of Playboy, with a full pictorial spread inside. Each of these prestigious moments resonates deeply. And on the heels of her Oscar win, Kate Winslet has been further honored by Hugh Hefner, who wants to see Kate?s naked self in the flesh. So to speak.
IF an Oscar, two Golden Globes and a Bafta aren?t enough for Kate Winslet ? she?s now been bestowed with another honour. Hugh Hefner has offered the British actress a spot on the cover of Playboy with a nude spread inside.
If Kate takes Hugh up on his offer she would follow in the footsteps of Marilyn Monroe, Sharon Stone, Pamela Anderson and fellow Oscar winner Charlize Theron.
The 82-year-old Playboy boss told a newspaper: ?There?s no question we would be interested in Kate? It?s a competitive market, more than it used to be, so she would be a most welcome addition in our pages.?
Kate has been filmed topless in many of her movies, including Academy Award victors The Reader and Titanic.
But she has vowed to never again appear naked on screen again, for fears of being typecast. She said: ?I don?t want to be known as that actress who gets her kit off.?

Kate must be going through so many emotions right now. I mean an Oscar AND an offer from Playboy, all in one week? These are clearly important times for her right now.
As The Sun mentioned, Kate has mostly ruled out future on-screen nudity - which I suspect applies to print publications as well. I don?t mind Playboy all that much, everything considered. But I don?t know why Hefner feels the need to respond to just about any newsworthy event with an offer of nudity. I imagine that he sits there, watching CNN while taking notes about anyone potentially hot who?s done anything of note. Luckily very few women take Hef up on his proposals. At least compared to the number of women he makes offers to.
And really, Winslet is supposed to be enticed with mentions that Sharon Stone and Pamela Anderson have been on the cover of Playboy? I?m sure that?ll work wonders, because nothing makes an elegant woman want to take off her clothes quicker than being compared to some of the trashiest women in Hollywood.

| Kate Winslet is sad that America is happier for her than Britain | Added 15 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Kate Winslet has finally won her Oscar! After six nominations (the most nominated actor at the age of 33), Winslet finally triumphed. I loved her speech, especially the part where she asked her dad to whistle in the auditorium. After she got off the stage, she talked to the waiting international press. It really seems like the British journalists were just waiting to rip into her, looking for any reason to criticize her, judging from the headlines in the British press this morning.
Winslet herself brought up how disappointed she was with the way the British press has handled her victories throughout the awards season. When asked if she was expecting the same negative reaction to her Oscar speech that she got from her emotional, Angelina-forgetting Golden Globes speeches, Winslet said, ?I really don’t care. I really don’t care. And, quite honestly, it makes me very sad that my own country can’t be pleased for the successes of their own kind in the way that America really seems to be able to be. So I really don’t care.? The Daily Telegraph has more:
Oscar winner Kate Winslet has accused the British of failing to support her awards success and said she wished her home country could be more like America.
Minutes after picking up the best actress Oscar for The Reader, Winslet said she was saddened by the negative British reaction to her gushing Golden Globes speech last month. Asked if the same people would dislike her Oscars speech, she replied: “I really don’t care. I really don’t care. And, quite honestly, it makes me very sad that my own country can’t be pleased for the successes of their own kind in the way that America really seems to be able to be. So I really don’t care.”
On stage at the Golden Globes, Winslet hyperventilated and repeatedly told herself to “gather” before forgetting the name of fellow nominee Angelina Jolie.
Backstage, she joked that she had perfected her “loser face” in case another actress won. “You have no idea how well I practised that face. It was a good face. I practised quite considerably, actually. Oh, yeah, you get good at practising that face,” she laughed.
The 33-year-old described herself as still “a little girl from Reading” and said she had chosen her evening gown, an assymetric, gun-metal grey design by Yves Saint Laurent, because she thought her mother would approve. “I just really liked it. I thought it was really elegant. And I thought my mum would think it was really pretty, and that’s why I wanted to wear it.”
From The Daily Telegraph
Good for her! The British press was really harsh about those Golden Globes speeches, when she just sounded like any other excited, thrilled winner. It?s a common theme with certain British actors, saying that America appreciates them more than their own country. I?ve heard Hugh Grant and Anthony Hopkins say similar things.
Winslet also explained the whistle that her father, Roger, let out when she was on the stage. Winslet said, ?That’s the Rodge the Dodge whistle. Everybody in my family knows it, and he did it. I actually felt quite calm. I really didn’t think that I was going to win and I was amazed at how confident I felt. My dad did his famous whistle and somehow that made me feel much calmer.?
Later on in the press conference, Winslet said she was going to go to the Vanity Fair party and get hammered. I haven?t seen anything yet about her being falling-down drunk, but I really hope she got good and loaded - she deserves it!

Kate Winslet has won the Oscar for her role as illiterate former Nazi guard Hanna Schmitz in The Reader. A campaign was launched against Winslet’s best actress nomination after the film was criticized for what some deemed a denial of the atrocities of the Holocaust. Harvey Weinstein and others involved in the film defended the content in a statement issued on Friday, saying in part that “these allegations are fueled by ignorance and a misunderstanding of the material, and are based on unsubstantiated arguments. The greatest films elicit great debate and conversation.”
Winslet was thought to be the front runner for the Academy Award this year because she has been nominated six times but hasn’t taken home a statue yet. In an interview with ABC News she was understated but clear about her desire to win, saying “It would be nice to know what it feels like in that situation to win sometime.” She also said that compared to previous years when she knew she wouldn’t take home a statue “this year… I can?t actually tell.”
Kate has her answer now and her long-anticipated Oscar. She also took home a SAG, Critics Choice Awards, Golden Globe and BAFTA for this role and now she can add “Academy Award Winning Actress” to her name.
The award was presented by former winners Shirley MacLaine, Marion Cotillard, Halle Berry, Sofia Loren, and Nicole Kidman. Each woman gave tribute to the actress and nominated role in a heartfelt and meaningful speech that seemed to touch both the actress mentioned and the audience.
In her acceptance speech Winslet was exhilarated but well spoken. She said that she made a version of the speech when she was “8 years old and staring into the bathroom mirror, and this would have been a shampoo bottle.” She thanked her parents and told her dad to whistle to let her know where he was. We immediately heard a loud whistle from the audience and saw a guy in a hat smiling. Winslet thanked her husband and said that it was a great film to to work on as “there was no division between the cast and crew of this film.” She also thanked now-departed producers Sydney Pollack and Anthony Minghella, looking up to signify that they were in Heaven. Winslet mentioned her fellow nominees and and said “I think we all can’t believe we’re in a category with Meryl Streep at all.”
Watching The Reader I felt like I understood Winslet’s character and I sympathized with her somewhat without excusing what she’d done. She gracefully stepped into the role, never overplaying her character and never making you second guess her performance even as Hannah reached old age. There were parts of the film I questioned as it felt too heavy and slow at times, but Winslet was impeccable. She usually is, and now she’s finally received her industry’s highest honor. Congratulations to Winslet.

Her career is the definition of longevity in Hollywood, and earlier tonight Kate Winslet arrived at the 81st annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles, California.
The “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” hottie looked picture perfect as she sauntered down the red carpet in a grey and black satin dress with black heels and plenty of bling.

I think I’ve had two girl crushes in my life: Audrey Hepburn and Kate Winslet. Kate is so annoyingly, classically beautiful that I can’t help but love her, plus she can actually act. I wish she’d go back to her more reddish hair color, but at least she got rid of the tanned skin she was sporting a little while ago. We’ve got enough blonde/tanned actresses around here that it’s nice to see someone with fair skin. Anyway, gaze away, fellow readers! Abby will be back on Monday, so I’ll see around later!
