We already previewed Scarlett Johansson?s Cosmopolitan cover (for January 2012) a few days ago, but now The Mail has some excerpts from the interview. I?ll say it again – Scarlett, like Lady Gaga, doesn?t really have much to say. Scarlett, like Gaga, does too much press for too little work. That being said, Scarlett didn?t come off too badly in this piece, mostly because she?s trying to sound like her marriage and divorce was all cotton candy and rainbows and she just learned so much.
Scarlett on her marriage to Ryan Reynolds: ?I’m a big believer that when something feels right, you should do it. I’m a big believer in instinct. Getting married was the right thing to do because it was natural. It grew out of a romance and love and a desire to have a future with somebody and I was very fortunate that I married somebody who turned out to be the person I thought he would be.?
Marriage wasn?t what she thought it would be: ?Relationships are complicated and being married is a living, breathing process. I think I was not fully aware of the peaks and valleys. I wasn’t prepared to hunker down and do the work.?
On the divorce: ?Both of us were extremely busy. We spent so much time apart. It’s very difficult. It’s bad.?
No regrets: ?It seemed like a very romantic thing to do, and it was. It was the best thing I ever did.?
Learning from her starter marriage: ?You have to be very confident and solid within yourself to have a successful marriage.?
She?s currently single: ?I’ve never been single for a chunk of time before. You miss having a partner and a confidant, but I have to say, I’m appreciating having the time to get to know myself.?
That story about having sex with Benicio Del Toro in an elevator the Chateau Marmont: ?It’s the worst story ever. That story will haunt me for my whole life. If you have ever been in that elevator you know it’s like 31/2 seconds from one floor to another. It’s crazy. But anyway a journalist asked me about this rumour and I was 19 or 20. I didn’t realize how sarcasm would come off and I said something like: ‘I don’t know, I would find that very unsanitary’. And the guy printed that and at the end he wrote: ‘Which isn’t to say that she denied it’. So of course, other outlets ran with it! I hate that it’s become, like, Hollywood lore, but what are you going to do??
Trying to move away from her sexpot image: ?As a 19-year-old girl I was very eager to play into that. Why not? You’re 19 and you’re feeling fabulous and young. I don’t know that I could have sold myself as a character actor at 19. It’s nice for people to think you’re attractive. But I was never, like, a model or anything. I think because I wasn’t 90lbs, I was suddenly this “bombshell” and “hourglass” and all those things, but I never wanted to make my career off that. Everything I’ve been doing in the past year involves characters that the last thing on their mind is finding Mr. Right or being taken care of.?
[From Cosmo via The Mail]
Aw, damn! She denied the Benicio story! I love that story. That?s how I?ve always chosen to think of Scarlett – as the kind of girl who would bone Benicio del Toro in an elevator and then never speak to him again. I wish she was that girl. I get that she?s trying to sound all mature and ?Look at me, I?m a real actress, you should nominate me for an Oscar at some point!? But I wish Scarlett would just start boning random A-list dudes, just for the fun of it.
Also – this week?s Us Weekly suggests that Scarlett isn?t really as ?over? Ryan Reynolds as she?d like to be. According to Us Weekly?s source, Scarlett is pissed that Ryan is dating Blake Lively because Ryan is supposed to still be hung up on HER. Ryan wanted to reconcile earlier this year, but then Scarlett starting boning Sean Penn, and Ryan got fed up. The source says: ?Ryan would have gotten back with her. He was so totally in love, but then she flaunted Sean right after their split, and he was done? Scarlett is pissed that he?s not under her spell anymore.? Ryan found a new pair of boobs, Scar. Time to pack ?em up and start boning any A-lister that comes along.

Interview magazine has Scarlett Johansson doing the semi-androgynous S&M thing on the cover of their December issue. Apparently Scarlett Johansson can get away with leather lederhosen, but when I wear something like that it’s “indecent exposure” and I get maced.

Scarlett Johansson covers the December issue of Interview magazine to promote her new film, We Bought a Zoo, which was directed by Cameron Crowe and has already drawn the ire of PETA. The film also stars Matt Damon, who, oddly enough, has just rubbed shoulders with PETA over his attendance at a bullfighting match. For her part, the magazine notes that Scarlett is coming off a tumultuous year after divorcing Ryan Reynolds (and feeling quite depressed as a result) before rebounding with the likes of Sean Penn and his chain-smoking toupee.
Then there were the infamous tata & booty shots downloaded around the world. Scar really did look good in those photos, didn’t she? Consequently, I’m trying to wrap my head around this photoshoot, which features Scar’s rather trimmed-down Avengers physique and a boyish hairstyle. On one hand, the stylist seems to be aiming for an androgynous vibe, which is somewhat counteracted by Scar’s poses:
On to the interview though, which is conducted by Arianna Huffington and features a lot of talk by Scar on serious subjects. Maybe:
On Being Politically Active: “I’m already planning what I’m going to wear to the next White House Correspondents? dinner. Next time I go I’m going to find Anderson Cooper?s table and camp out there. My brother was totally geeked-out by Katie Couric. I think he followed her around the entire night. I was chasing after him, and I turned around, and I had a bunch of Republican senators chasing after me. [laughs] But honestly I think it’s the best party in town. I’d rather go to the White House Correspondents’ dinner than any awards show.”
On Balancing Fame & Privacy: “I don’t really profess to know how to balance any of it. I don’t profess to know how to balance the positive and the negative media attention. It’s a gamble every time you put yourself out there, and, certainly, I’m always readjusting to it. But I hope it never becomes normal to feel scrutinized. I value my privacy and my personal life-and I certainly don’t exploit my personal life. But that’s not always in your control. There are, unfortunately, people who are interested in prying. You know, my favorite actors are actors who are enigmatic and mysterious and never make the obvious choice in terms of the projects they do or who they work with or their craft. But I think that the less I know about an actor, the more chance I have of allowing their own persona to kind of slip away so I can get completely lost in the character they’re playing, and the more that people think they know about your personal life, the more difficult it becomes to preserve that. So when I’m not working or promoting something, I try to be as under-the-radar as I can. This has just been a bit of a crazy year.”
On Avoiding Twitter “Personally, I don’t feel the need to brand myself in that way. But as a means to share information and raise awareness of things, I think these social-networking platforms are unprecedented. They’re amazing tools to communicate information-especially about different causes or crises or movements. That said, I don’t have a Facebook or a Twitter account, and I don’t know how I feel about this idea of, ‘Now, I’m eating dinner, and I want everyone to know that I’m having dinner at this time’ or ‘I just mailed a letter and dropped off my kids.’ That, to me, is a very strange phenomenon. I can’t think of anything I’d rather do less than have to continuously share details of my everyday life. I’m always surprised that certain actors have Twitter accounts.”
On Her Work In Somalia & Kenya: Well, I’ve been fortunate enough to travel with Oxfam several times, and they’re always so well organized, so it was a good way to show the kind of work they’re doing. You read statistics all the time like, “13 million people are at risk because of the severe drought in East Africa,” but I think those kinds of numbers fall on deaf ears-there’s so much devastation in the world, that it’s a bit overwhelming for people. But by seeing a first-hand account of something like the effects of the drought in the Horn of Africa, you can have a different relationship with the story. It?s one of the blessings that come with new media. I’m hoping to go to Ethiopia in February and do a similar kind of project there because it’s an ongoing crisis, so I think it’s important to keep some focus there right now.
“It’s seemingly a whole other world. But in actuality, you’re standing next to somebody, looking them in the eye, and what you realize is that there is a human connectivity that exists between people no matter the cultural difference. You don’t even have to go that far. There are people in America who are absolutely desperate right now, who have no means to support their families, who have no opportunities to better themselves or their education-and they’re not that different from the farmers and working-class people that I visited when I went to Kenya with Oxfam. Whether they’re in America or in Africa, people want to work. They want to have purpose. They want to provide for themselves and their families. They don’t want handouts. They don’t want to be completely dependent on their governments-even though there’s usually no opportunity for that anyway. But they want to be self-sufficient and have a sustainable lifestyle. You know, I just finished this movie, The Avengers, in September, and we shot in places like Albuquerque, New Mexico, and in Cleveland, and around Ohio. We shot in a town called Wilmington in Ohio. It’s a lovely town, and the people there were really generous and welcomed us with open arms, but I’m sure part of that was probably that this film was an opportunity for commerce that they haven’t had for a long time. So these problems sometimes seem so impossibly large that it?s hard not to be pessimistic.”
[From Interview magazine]
Hopefully, Scarlett was just joking about having her outfit all picked out for next year’s White House Correspondents Dinner. Whatever the case, I’m just hoping that the wonk foot makes another appearance at the event. It would be a great annual tradition, you know? But I hate to make fun of Scarlett for what she’s said in this interview because, honestly, she seems to have a better grasp on worldly issues than most starlets these days. I know that it’s really easy to laugh at Scar for fancying herself an intellectual, but she does well here. Mostly.
Now onto the rest of this puzzling photoshoot. How exactly does this topless picture of Scarlett seem so entirely unappealing? It’s mystifying.

You don’t have to ask me twice to post pictures of Scarlett Johansson with her top off. Sure they’re a little artsy-fartier than I would have liked and there aren’t any nipples or girl on girl action or any of that good stuff, but they still work. I don’t see the big deal, they’re just

Scarlett Johansson was photographed smoking a joint between takes while on location in Scotland for her new film ‘Under the Skin.’ I assume from the way she’s dressed that it’s a movie about Missy Elliot’s twin white sister or a woman who turned one of those bite suits they use to train police dogs into a successful canine protection outerwear line. Either way, I won’t be seeing it.

Scarlett Johansson opens up about those hacked nude photos that surfaced online back in September in next month’s Vanity Fair magazine. The Daily Mail says:
Miss Johansson, 26, has explained that she sent [the photos] to her former husband, Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds.
?Those are old, from three years ago,? she told the magazine. ?They were sent to my husband. There?s nothing wrong with that.
‘It?s not like I was shooting a porno ? although there?s nothing wrong with that either.?
She even joked that they showed her in a flattering light because ?I know my best angles?.
Did she just hint at a possible sex tape? Because it sounds like she was hinting at a possible sex tape. The little cricket on the poster at the library says if we believe hard enough, we can make it happen!

Scarlett Johansson takes the cover of the December issue of Vanity Fair, although I?m not sure if she?s actually promoting anything. Her next film is We Bought A Zoo, but I can?t even see if that film has a release date yet. Mostly, ScarJo just did the cover so she could talk about her nude photos (they were for Ryan Reynolds, when they were married), her relationship with Woody Allen (joined by hypochondria) and her divorce. I would love to know if Scarlett discussed the Sean Penn interlude, but I guess I?ll have to wait until the full interview comes out:
Scarlett Johansson does not seem the least bit ashamed when discussing her recent nude-photo scandal with Vanity Fair contributing editor Peter Biskind.
?I know my best angles,? she says with her trademark insouciance. ?They were sent to my husband,? now ex Ryan Reynolds. ?There?s nothing wrong with that. It?s not like I was shooting a porno.? She adds saucily, ?Although there?s nothing wrong with that either.?
Johansson, who has been active in campaigning for various Democratic political leaders, including Barack Obama, tells Biskind that nearly one term later ?we?re all guilty of being idealistic, I and everyone who voted for him.? But in response to being asked if she would work for him again, she says, ?It would be irresponsible not to.?
She also discusses her friendship with Woody Allen, spawned by their shared tendency toward hypochondria and, subsequently, shared Purell.
?He shakes a lot of hands,? Johansson explains. ?I?ll squirt some in my hand and then squirt in his.? She also has a bizarre penchant for diagnosing him. ?The only reason why Woody and I are still friends is because I?ve diagnosed all kinds of his skin tags, lesions, ailments. I?ve prescribed things for Woody that he?s then asked his doctor to prescribe for him.?
Despite their compatibility, after working with Johansson on several films, Allen decided they should take a break: ?I have every intention of working with her again, but I just didn?t think it was a great idea for either one of us to work together too intensely, picture after picture. I didn?t want her to be burdened by, ?Oh, she?s in all the Woody Allen pictures, it?s so predictable,? and she?s my new muse, and all that silliness.? Johansson does not share his opinion: ?I don?t think anything?s played out. I?m waiting for him to write my Citizen Kane.?
Johansson says that her role in a revival of Arthur Miller?s A View from the Bridge in 2009 opposite Liev Schreiber ?completely took me over in every way. I?d spent four months bleeding all over the stage, completely exposed. I felt I was forever changed by that experience. It was unbelievable holding that Tony.?
Her emotional and physical exhaustion after the end of the run was compounded by her subsequent divorce from Reynolds. ?I didn?t really know what to do with myself. It was such a strange time. There was nothing that was interesting to me. I had a very public separation. It was difficult. I felt very uncomfortable.?
[From Vanity Fair]
I remember when Scarlett was just the hottest thing ever and seemingly every regular and celebrity guy wanted to get with her - when was it? Circa 2006-07, I think. And then she married Ryan Reynolds and aimed for a more low-key lifestyle, and she dieted away her curves, and suddenly, most dudes moved on to crushing on other chicks. Plus, once she and Ryan were over and Scarlett starting boning Sean Penn, I think men and women were really turned off. I kind of wonder if Scarlett?s newly discovered happiness to do sexy photo shoots and give revealing interviews is part of her attempt to regain a male fanbase?

Scarlett Johansson has embarked upon a bit of a German PR extravaganza, although I cannot figure out what film project she could possibly be promoting other than We Bought A Zoo, but that movie doesn’t come out in Germany until February (and in the U.S. in late December). Perhaps Scarlett is merely promoting her boobs, which are hanging out all over the cover of GQ Germany without any interview tidbits released thus far, so who knows?
In addition, Scarlett has done an interview with Germany’s Gala publication, so some excerpts are available thanks to the power of Google Translate. Until now, we’ve only heard a few sparse details about the dissolution of Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds’ two-year marriage, and those statements came from the dude perspective in the relationship. Now, Scarlett has opened up a bit about the depression she suffered after the split and who she turned to for support. Well, other than Sean Penn, who was only around for a few months before they broke up either because she’s too clingy or he told her to go back to school. Anyway, back to the business of Scarlett and Ryan:
On Coping With Divorce: At first I was quite depressed. After about a week or so I pulled myself together and started to go to the gym all the time. Luckily, I’ve got a few very close girlfriends who have been by my side for 15 years now, who I can talk to about everything and confide in. I’ve got a close relationship with my twin brother Hunter as well. And then there’s my grandmother Dorothy. She recently turned 89 - she’s an incredibly sweet, lovely and wise woman.
On Her Relationship Flaws: I will only tell you this: I can be overcritical - with myself and with other people. And I don’t compromise… I pass judgment on people quite quickly. If I don’t agree with someone or if I’m annoyed I will tell people to their face - no matter how hurtful that might be. That can get me into trouble from time to time. When that happens, my friends have to hold me back and say, “Scarlett, you can’t say that!” I’m also incredibly impatient - regarding my job, my family and men. I want things to progress. I hate stagnation!
[From Gala.de]
Now that part of hating stagnation is interesting. Was she referring to wanting to move forward with Ryan into making gerbil babies? I highly doubt that. Could she possibly have been referring to wanting a more serious relationship with Sean Penn beyond sex, toupees, and chain smoking? Quite possibly, but that ship has sailed since Penn has been dating Shannon Costello for the past several months.
At this point though, I think Scarlett is over both Ryan and Sean or, at the very least, she’s distracted enough with filming The Avengers to take some much needed personal time for herself before jumping into another bad relationship. Scarlett’s been photographed by herself a few times this month, including this snap taken outside the NYC Plaza hotel. Her awkward foot placement reminds me of the ankle-snapping pose at the White House Correspondents Dinner:
Here, Scarlett goes incognito with her iPhone and an apple. She sort of pulls it off, but her mouth is a dead giveaway.

Opening up about a sensitive subject, Scarlett Johansson interviewed with GALA magazine about her separation from ex-husband Ryan Reynolds.
The 26-year-old actress confessed that the split left her in a somber state, as she said, "At first I was quite depressed. After about a week or so I pulled myself together and started to go to the gym all the time."
Blaming her "overcritical"" and "incredibly impatient" tendencies on the demise of their two-year union, Johansson told, "I pass judgment on people quite quickly. That can get me into trouble from time to time."
And while she had a difficult time post-breakup, Scarlett praised those close to her for helping her through the challenging moments, saying, "Luckily, I've got a few very close girlfriends who have been by my side for 15 years now, who I can talk to about everything and confide in."
