Several years back, Renee Zellweger got some work done. I don?t think that?s up for debate, even if she never confirmed it and wanted to pretend it never happened. People Botox all the time, people go in for little tweaks here and there, and most of the time, we probably can?t even see much of a difference. But Renee truly looked unrecognizable for the better part of two years (2013-14) until the work softened a bit or maybe the injectibles wore off a bit too. Well, Renee has a feature in the latest issue of Town & Country and I feel like she?s still trying out some stuff on her face? This time, it just looks like Botox to me. She?s back to looking like Classic Renee, just frozen. Anyway, Renee spoke to Town & Country because she?s promoting her Netflix limited series What/If, which is supposed to be like a modern twist on The Graduate, with Renee playing the ?Mrs. Robinson? character. You can see T&C?s feature here. Some highlights:
On her character Anne Montgomery in What/If: ?She was a treat. Every day, she says that thing that you wish you could say, but you wouldnt dare. But Anne does?.we could all use a little of Annes audacity, couldnt we??
On What/If being her first TV series: ?Everything was a surprise, which was a really interesting new way of working for me?slightly uncomfortable.?
On the importance of self-care: ?Im better at taking care of myself first. I didnt recognize that that was an option. Now, its a priority. [Acting] doesnt have to be at the expense of my health and my life.?
On Judy Garland: ?The combination of gifts that she was born with are just indescribably important in terms of what she inspires in other artists,? she says. But does she think Garland would fare better in todays different though equally cutthroat entertainment industry? Zellweger considers the question seriously. ?Perhaps,? she says finally. ?And perhaps I dont know. Because then you see stories like Amy Winehouse and you just wonder why??
[From Town & Country]
This isn?t Renee?s fault, but I dislike that sort of ?would Judy Garland have fared better in today?s world?? question. Garland was a product of the studio system (which doesn?t exist now) and she was largely a vocal talent who did not write her own songs. If anything, the ?Judy Garland? model does not exist anymore. And if she did, she would probably just be relegated to stage work and not film or television. As for Renee? it?s obvious that she largely lives an undercover life and she?s not paying attention to pop culture or even the comings and goings of her industry. It?s weird to me that she still seems so disconnected, even if she says the disconnect was purposeful, for her own health.

I?m old enough to remember when Judy Davis did a miniseries about Judy Garland?s later years called Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows. I remember that Davis won tons of awards for her portrayal. But because every generation has to retell these stories, now we?re getting Renee Zellweger playing the iconic Judy Garland. Renee?s film is called Judy. It?s about the last year of Garland?s life (1968) when she was addicted to pills, broke and a complete mess after having worked all of her life and having her money stolen by bad men and bad managers. Judy comes out in September, but they just released some photos and the poster. Honestly, with the wig and makeup, Renee does sort of look like Judy Garland. But it?s like some weird uncanny valley sh-t too, right? To promote the first images, Renee spoke to People Magazine about playing a real-life person:
?When there?s a better understanding of what it takes for a person to continue under certain circumstances there is a level of empathy and respect that you can?t help but feel,? says Zellweger.
The Bridget Jones? Diary actress, who spent two hours a day in the makeup chair getting prosthetics, contact lenses and wigs applied to look like Garland, says she hopes the biopic gives audiences a better understanding of Garland.
?What she had to overcome in a time when women didn?t necessarily feel that they had power over their own lives in the way that we do today,? says Zellweger. ?That stayed with me and I hope folks will be moved by that as well.?
[From People]
Two hours in hair and makeup? Honestly, it looks like they just plopped a wig on her and powdered her, no offense to Renee. Here?s the thing that People Mag didn?t include though: I don?t think the film company bought Judy?s life rights or anything, and they definitely didn?t get approval from her family. Liza Minnelli slapped back at this film last year, saying: ?I have never met nor spoken to Rene Zellweger. I don?t know how these stories get started, but I do not approve nor sanction the upcoming film about Judy Garland in any way. Any reports to the contrary are 100% fiction.? Renee never met with Liza and Liza does NOT approve. Ouch.
This photo is freaking me out:

Here are some photos of Renee Zellweger at Thursday night?s premiere of Same Kind of Different As Me. Renee?s vibrant yellow dress is by her favorite designer, Carolina Herrera. I enjoy this, and I rarely enjoy yellow dresses. Renee pulls off the color though, and the vintage feel of the dress really works on her, like always. Some people are commenting on Renee?s face – the Daily Mail even put ?remarkably line-free? in their headline. A few years ago, Renee did have some noticeable plastic surgery, and it really, really changed the way she looked. But after that, it was like her old face slowly started coming back over time. Do I think she?s ?helped? that gradual process with fillers and Botox? Probably. Definitely. But I am happy that she looks like herself again.
Meanwhile did you know that Renee is still with Doyle Bramhall? She is. And apparently, she pays all of his bills?
Rene Zellweger has been supporting her boyfriend, Doyle Bramhall, financially. E! News obtained the court documents involved in the musician’s divorce from estranged wife Susannah Melvoin in which it’s revealed Zellweger has allowed Bramhall to live with her for free. Not to mention, the docs also state she’s been paying for his credit cards that have added up between $4,000 to $5,000 a month. The docs go on to state that the totaled expenses in 2015 added up to nearly $60,000.
Of course, this bodes the questions: Why does this matter and why did Zellweger get pulled into the divorce in the first place? Melvoin filed the information last year, noting she wants the judge to include the money Zellweger gives to Bramhall as a part of figuring out his owed child and spousal support.
According to the docs, Zellweger defended her boyfriend, stating that the credit card arrangement was agreed upon as a loan, and she expects repayment. Though she did say nothing was put on paper and Bramhall has yet to repay her, the musician asserted his understanding that he owes Zellweger the money. The judge ended up ruling that the actress’ contribution to Bramhall’s lifestyle should not be considered in what the musician pays in spousal and child support to his estranged wife. Zellweger and Bramhall have been together since 2012, following the musician’s separation in 2010. The former couple share two children together, India, 16, and Elle, 13.
[From E! News]
My generation refers to this kind of man as a ?scrub.? TLC really did teach my generation so much about men and relationships, you have no idea. Anyway, I have no problem with couples where the woman out-earns the man and all of that. There are many happy relationships and marriages where that happens. I?m irritated by the paying-off-the-cards thing mostly, because that says, to me, that she?s basically giving him an allowance. And that?s terrible. That?s like J-Lo and Casper Smart-level scrubbery. As for living together and Doyle not paying rent – that?s not a big deal whatsoever. It?s her house, she probably asked him to move in with her.

| Renee Zellweger on rumors that Kenny Chesney is gay: 'that made me sad' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

These are photos of Renee Zellweger at the German premiere of Bridget Jones’ Baby on Wednesday. She’s wearing a bizarre black Monse one-arm dress with a high leg slit, ruching on the side which leads to a giant bow, a folded flap at the neckline, and even more unnecessary details like a bubble arm with a cutout across the top. It’s like a bad 80s prom dress made in home ec class.
Renee has a new interview with The Advocate and I’m struck by how much she sounds like Ashley Judd here. In fact she’s been sounding like Ashley Judd for a while in that she uses a lot of big words but doesn’t say much. Everyone is focusing on her comments about whether Kenny Chesney was gay. She said that the story is made up and it makes her sad, but there’s a lot of word salad to get through.
Do you have a similar gay confidant?
I?m lucky to have handfuls. The majority of my closest friends are gay, and I have my pearl. I went to Miami for New Year?s Eve some years back with him and his boyfriend, and we got paparazzied on the beach. We had a very Bridget Jones moment: He had no desire to be photographed in his trunks, so he told me, ?You need to get out of here and go for a run right now!? Some tabloid ran the photos and wrote, ?Has Rene finally found her pearl?? I was like, ?Aww, he?s my pearl!? He?s family to me. We dated for a minute, actually.
After citing ?fraud? as the reason for annulling your marriage to Kenny Chesney in 2005, many media outlets alleged that he must be gay.
I forgot about that. It?s a pretty big thing to forget, isn?t it? That made me sad. It made me sad that somehow people were using that as a way to be cruel and calling someone gay as a pejorative, which has fateful consequences. Of course, there?s the bigger-picture problem of why anyone had to make up a story at all.
Were you tempted to publicly jump to his defense?
Well, I?d said all I needed to say on that subject. I?m an old-fashioned gal who doesn?t feel it?s appropriate to hang out your laundry on the lawn. I feel you devalue yourself as a human being when you share very personal things with a bajillion strangers who are making fun of you. I just don?t see that there?s any dignity in that. But sometimes it is difficult to just let something be what it is, especially when it?s unnecessary ugliness. Once you?ve said your piece, shouldn?t that be enough? And why is the ugliness that?s perpetuated in the media so attractive to people?
In Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason?s lesbian twist, Bridget got a surprise snog from a female admirer. Has a woman ever expressed her love for you?
Yes, thank goodness. But I loved her differently. We talked about it, we laughed, and I was happy she trusted me and that we have a relationship where we could have that conversation.
[From The Advocate]
I actually remember those photos Renee mentions where she was running at the beach after being spotted with a male friend because she had a portable CD player with her. Although it was many years ago (it was before smart phones) hardly anyone was still using portable CD players back then. I think I found those, that was in 2006 and people were speculating about Renee’s love life because she had recently split with Kenny Chesney. She eventually went on to date Bradley Cooper, and we know how that turned out. She seems happy now in her relationship of over three years with Doyle Bramhall II.
As for whether checking “fraud” on her divorce papers meant that Kenny Chesney was gay, Kenny has explained that it was a legal decision in order to obtain an annulment. He insists he has a “long line of girls who could testify that I am not gay.” Kenny went on to clarify that he’s slept with well over a hundred women. Renee’s comments here remind me so much of her other recent interviews in that it’s hard to tell what she’s saying other than the fact that the media notices and speculates about her life and she dislikes that. She has an issue with not speaking plainly. I did really like what she said about a female friend who expressed a romantic interest in her. That was sweet.

Here are some photos from Monday night?s London premiere of Bridget Jones?s Baby. This is being seen by many as Renee Zellweger?s big comeback role following a multi-year hiatus (of sorts). People are still talking about whether she looks different and/or whether she?s had work done, and at this point, I just feel like everyone should just judge for themselves.
Renee brought some vintage-feeling glamour for the most part to the premiere. This gown isn?t vintage, it just has a vintage feel ? it?s by Schiaparelli, a designer she has worn before for some big occasions. I like the dress and the giant zebra brooch, but I feel like the placement of the brooch was? odd. Granted, it?s too big to put on your chest? maybe. But to basically have a zebra brooch on your crotch seems like a weird fashion statement.
More photos from the premiere? here?s Emma Thompson looking incredibly comfortable. At first I thought she was just wearing high-fashion sweats, but no. Emma also got a snog off of Patrick Dempsey at the premiere AND she said he?s a better kisser than Colin Firth. SCANDAL. LIES!!!
And here?s Patrick Dempsey with his family and his on-again wife Jillian. I?ve lost count how many times Patrick and Jillian have broken up and gotten back together. His kids are older than I thought they would be! The boys look just like him.

Over the past month or so, I?ve started to wonder and worry about Renee Zellweger. I genuinely feel sympathy for her, because I think she?s done a good job of maintaining her privacy and being a low-key person, and she doesn?t deserve to be the butt of so many jokes and the subject of so many invasive conversations. But on the other hand, I wonder if Renee might actually have some no-joke issues? She just seems particularly fragile during the promotion for Bridget Jones?s Baby, and the way she brazenly lied in her HuffPo essay has been eating away at me for a week now. Like, she thinks she ended the conversation about her face work when she wrote: ?I did not make a decision to alter my face and have surgery on my eyes.? And in this DuJour interview, it seems like she?s lying about several other things. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:
Where she?s most at home: ?I guess I kind of feel at home wherever I go, most places. But I really know I?m home when I go to Texas. My boyfriend is also from Texas and his family is still there, so we go back quite a bit now, which is nice.?
She claims a famous Vogue incident never took place: ?Someone had me talking to penguins in my own special language at the zoo. But we sat on a bench, we never went to the zoo!? She?s referring to a Vogue cover story from 1998. I gesture shock. I?d read that story; the part where they ?went to the zoo? was a substantial part of the narrative. ?My reaction exactly!? she exclaims. ?I don?t know. I guess I have bigger things to worry about. But that?s one of the things I?ve had to learn to make peace with. The truth is?It?s wobbly.?
Internet gossip: ?I get excited about the internet because it seems like it should make our culture less nave about the effects of misinformation. But I still get phone calls from people I?m close to like, ?Oh my gosh, congratulations!? The big question is why there is such an appetite for [vicious tabloid coverage]. Snark has somehow replaced intelligent wit, and it?s pervasive? it?s in the political spectrum, it?s everywhere. There?s no shame anymore. It?s an interesting time, and I wonder where the cycle goes from here. I guess I just think a lot about this new idea we?re presenting, about what you need to do in order to be considered a person of substance in our society. I know I feel overwhelmed by whatever that standard is. Could that be what fuels this need to read negative things about people you don?t know? Or to take out aggression by humiliating people who are in some way recognized for something that they?ve done??
Upon being told the Variety critic complained about her new face: ?But that?s really too bad. He wrote this because he read a tabloid story and it played into his imagination when he watched the trailer? I can?t comment on it because I don?t know specifically what he was talking about, but he?s misinformed. He should have called me? But I disagree with him, if what he?s talking about is that there can?t be a character who represents every woman at different stages in her life?a character who is flawed, and who represents the truths about our humanity. I don?t know why he thinks there?s no value in that. I see it differently. And I won?t apologize to him for disappointing him that I?ve grown older because that?s the goal.?
[From DuJour]
The last half of the DuJour article is an interesting read because you can tell that the writer feels bad about having to bring up the plastic surgery story and the assorted sub-stories involved (the Variety critic, Rose McGowen?s defense of Renee and more), but Renee feigns ignorance throughout, like she?s a freshly hatched chick who has never seen one negative story about herself, except that she was just making all of those pointed references to internet negativity just minutes beforehand. Renee is exhausting. Also: the Vogue story, where Renee claims that she and Vogue journalist Bob Ickes never went to the zoo? Ickes told Page Six, ?We certainly went to the zoo. The article never says she was speaking in her own special language to the penguins. That would be insane.?

On Friday, Renee Zellweger appeared on the Today Show to do some advanced promotion for Bridget Jones? Baby, which isn?t out until September, although the first trailer dropped last week. The trailer was met with mixed reaction? some were iffy about the introduction of Patrick Dempsey?s character, some were iffy about the plot, which features a paternity drama, and some were like, ?I?ll see anything with Colin Firth, so this is for me.? Renee addressed the paternity drama stuff quickly, and as it turns out, they shot several different endings so even she doesn?t know who fathered Bridget?s baby. At the end of the interview, Renee gets asked an uncomfortable question though.
See? that kind of pisses me off AND I feel somewhat sorry for her. This isn?t a schadenfreude thing where I?m happy to see Renee get slammed by the media, but it?s difficult to feel genuinely sorry for her when she?s still playing this stupid-as-hell games about her very obvious plastic surgery. Renee came out a few years ago with an entirely new face, and everyone and their brother could see that she had gotten some very, very noticeable eye work and more. So when Today asked her, ?I remember a couple of years ago people were talking about, ‘Oh, she changed her appearance.’ Does it bother you, does it get to you or is it just par for the course?”
“It’s not really part of my life. It’s part of the job, that I don’t really experience except when I step into this arena. In my home I’m not aware of it. I don’t do any kind of social media, so I don’t see it. I like to have ? I guess you would call them real experiences.”
[Via People]
Girl, please. It wasn?t some social media snafu. Every media outlet ? gossip and mainstream ? ran those photos in 2014 and said something about how different she looked. If she doesn?t want to admit that she had work done, so be it, and I’m sorry that she’s in this uncomfortable position of not feeling like she can be honest about her work. But I hate these stupid games, especially in response to silly backdoor questions. The Today Show didn?t want to be ?mean? and ask ?So why did you feel the need to come back into the limelight with a new face?? So they ask her ?how did it feel when everyone was like ?She has a new face??? And Renee?s answer is basically, ?What? Who? Where? I’m too busy having ‘real experiences’ to care.?

This is a special gift to those of you obsessed with Renee Zellweger?s boyfriend, Doyle Bramhall II. Renee and Doyle were photographed arriving at LAX this week, apparently coming home after a lengthy film shoot in London. Renee was working on Bridget Jones?s Baby with Patrick Dempsey and Colin Firth, and People Magazine says the film has wrapped. We still don?t know the identity of said baby though. Was Bramhall with her the whole time? Interesting.
Renee and Bramhall have been together since late 2012, but they?ve known each other since college, where they met at the University of Texas (Austin). They were apparently friendly casual acquaintances for decades, then reconnected in 2012 and they?ve been loved up ever since. This also means they?re close in age ? Renee is 46 and Bramhall is 48.
In these photos, Bramhall?s hair seems more ?tamed? than we?ve seen before. I can actually see that he?s a decent-looking guy. Not really my type, but he seems low-key and like he?s a good fit for Renee. It?s also worth noting than after everyone focused on her weird face-work in 2013/14, whatever she had done seems to have ?settled? a lot this year. She?s almost back to looking like herself, right?

Here are some photos of Renee Zellweger in Paris yesterday. She unexpectedly came out for the MiuMiu runway show. This was her first big public outing since everyone went crazy about her new face last October. To be fair, Renee had her plastic surgery (alleged!) done months before and some of us were already aware of her eye work (alleged!), but for whatever reason, when she stepped onto the red carpet in October, everyone lost their minds. Renee even had to issue a statement about her new look, claiming that she lost her squint because of a ?fulfilling life.?
What I find interesting is that Renee introduced some new bangs in Paris. That?s one way to explain your surgical work (ask Kim Kardashian): make a hair change and just claim that your new hairstyle is why you look so different. As you can imagine, I do not care for the bangs. I feel like they?re an attempt to ?re-squint? her eyes, you know? To make her features look smaller?
Sigh? Renee in Paris. I remember, years ago, when Vogue selected Renee as their cover girl and they sent her to Paris to hang out with all of the Paris designers. It was April, 2001. That was a great issue, that?s why it?s stuck in my mind. She was such a baby back then and she didn?t know anything about fashion!
