Angelina Jolie has some new interviews out, and I have no idea if she did these weeks ago, before the pox on her house, or whether she has reporters coming to her home while she?s recovering from the chicken pox, or perhaps she?s giving phone interviews while she?s recovering. This NYDN piece suggests that the reporter was actually in the room with Jolie, so take that as Brangeloonie Proof of something. You can read the full NYDN piece here. Some highlights:
Filming By the Sea with Brad: ?It brought us closer? The last time we worked together, it was a lighter movie. So sharing something in a deep artistic way, it?s something I think is necessary for artistic couples. I hadn?t realized how good it would be for us.?
She & Brad yell at each other a lot in the movie: ?The scenes on ?By the Sea? were so tense that we let out (any stress) on camera. There?s really heavy fighting in it, so I think sometimes the crew felt like, ?Mom and Dad are having a fight!? ? because Brad and I are the producers too. Success or failure, it?s all on us. But it was all oddly freeing. We both wanted to do something as artists … and push each other. So we got this opportunity to go out there and play. I had missed being that free as an actor, and to do that depth of work, and what a pleasure it was to do it with Brad, because I really saw him as an actor, not just the man I loved. In the end, it was an amazing thing, because there?s no actor who wants to help me more, or push me more as an actress, or give me more as a director or writer than my husband, and there?s no man I want to see succeed more than him. We were so there for each other.?
Her Christmas plans: ?Our tradition is, well, being somewhat traditional,? Jolie reveals, even cozily referring to herself and Pitt as ?Mom and Dad? when detailing their household holiday. ?Dad is the main one to deal with the tree, Mom and the kids help decorate, and then we put all the kids to bed. And, as anybody who has a big family knows, [the gifts] take a really long time! You have to be very organized when you?re wrapping them and putting presents around the tree. And you have to make sure no one gets up and leaves before everyone else is done. It?s all a bit military! We?re constantly cleaning up the wrapping paper and getting coffee, like any other parent.?
Do the kids get crazy presents? ?We make a point not to spoil them, but there?s usually that one item they’ve been wanting for a long time that we?ve held back until Christmas. They?ve each got that big thing.?
On soldiers and war: ?Any time a soldier goes to war it should be supported, and they should be able to feel good about their service to their country, regardless of what the government?s choices are. But there are certain wars that I would be very hesitant about, wars that aren?t clear on the need for the soldiers on the ground and the tactics being used. It?s very difficult for soldiers today, because they?re not seeing the outcomes promised. We haven?t been able to focus on prevention of conflict, on political solutions. We owe them that, so we?re not putting them in harm?s way to solve problems that we are not solving politically.?
If Hillary Clinton becomes President, will Jolie serve as Secretary of State? ?Who could say anything but ?Yes??? she replies with a grin.

Calm your jets, Angelina didn?t just endorse Hillary Clinton! If anything, when Angelina talks about finding political solutions to problems rather than military solutions, she sounds surprisingly dove-ish (while Hillary is certainly more hawkish). I?ve always thought Angelina?s foreign policy is probably more neoconservative, in that she thinks Western countries should be more involved (militarily, politically, economically) in so-called third world countries. She?s the polar opposite of the recent rise in neo-isolationism (which we?re going to hear more about if Rand Paul runs, which I think he will).
As for their Christmas plans? I feel like she?s making an effort to sound more traditional than they really are. I?ll buy that that they do the tree and that the kids don?t have mountains of presents and all that, but I bet they?re not roasting chestnuts on an open fire, etc.
There?s also a new interview with Women?s Weekly, an Australian mag. The quotes are blah ? go here to read. She says the same old stuff, nurturing their family, blah blah.

Sorry I didn?t cover this yesterday! In my defense? these are just the nominations for the Critics Choice Awards. It?s not like these are some big Oscar harbinger. And in my defense, they nominated EVERYBODY. Every single person who had a film out this year got a nomination. The Critics Choice people want everyone to come to their party. There are also a bunch of comedic performance nominees, but you get the idea. I love that Ralph Fiennes is finally getting some recognition for his crazy-weird performance in The Grand Budapest Hotel, because whoever thought of putting Ralph in a Wes Anderson film is a GD genius. As for everything else? sigh. Is it weird that I still think Best Director and Best Picture are crazy-competitive this year? Boyhood has won a lot of the critics? awards, but I think Birdman is a contender. And Selma is picking up major steam too. And seriously, who is going to win Best Actor? A lot of people think Keaton has it locked up, but I think he?s far from a sure thing. Last thing: YES Tilda Swinton FOR EVERYTHING.

HOLY CRAP. Angelina Jolie got completely shut out of the Golden Globes. Who did she piss off? My God. That?s one of the biggest stories coming out of this morning?s Golden Globes nominations, which? just FYI, were disorganized as hell. If you?re going to split up the announcement, make one part TV and one part film. It?s not that difficult. Anyway, Jolie got shut out in a major way. No nominations for Unbroken. No nomination for Maleficent. Nothing. That?s really rough. And to cap off a horrible week for Jolie, Jennifer Aniston got another major nomination for CAKE. Here are the film nominations:

Still disappointed that there?s no Charming Potato. Huh. But a mixed bag ? I guarantee the biggest story of the day is going to be Jolie?s shut-out. Jesus, she?s having a terrible week.

Here are some photos of Angelina Jolie at the Writer?s Guild Theater in Beverly Hills on Tuesday night. We had these photos yesterday, but I just didn?t get a chance to post them because of the giant clusterwhoops with the Sony hack story. It?s worth noting that this little black dress has a cape!! YAY! It?s like a casual cape, I think. A cape for every day. Anyway, more interviews and quotes from Angelina?s press machine. We?ll find out later today if Unbroken got any Golden Globe nominations! The way she?s hustling, I?ve got to think they nominate the film for something. Here?s Angelina talking about tattoos and her kids with the Radio Times:
Both Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt boast a collection of tattoos, but the director of upcoming WWII film Unbroken has revealed her new husband is against their kids sharing their love of body art. Of the couple’s children ? Vivienne and Knox, both six, Shiloh, eight, and their adopted siblings Zahara, nine, Pax, 11, and Maddox, 13 ? the actress has already turned down her eldest’s request, but now Zahara is getting inquisitive, a prospect that is horrifying her father.
“They’re already asking me about tattoos,” Jolie tells Radio Times. “How do I say ‘No’? It’s especially hard for dads and girls. For some reason men get a little more sensitive when the daughter gets a tattoo. And Brad thinks the girls can do no wrong. He’s mush in their hands!”
The couple also have strong opinions on whether or not their brood will follow their famous parents into the acting profession. “We’ve always said, if they want to act, we won’t let them only act, because it’s not enough. They’ll have to find a real job at the same time. But I’m hoping that when they see all the other things in the world, they’ll be inspired to be writers, politicians, activists. They’re very individual people. So I imagine they’re not going to follow their mum and dad.”
Jolie and Pitt’s next project is By the Sea, a film penned and directed by the actress who will star opposite her real-life husband. It will mark the first time the pair have acted on screen together since 2005?s Mr and Mrs Smith, when, as Pitt’s marriage to Jennifer Aniston fell apart, they fell in love.
“It feels a little daunting,” says Jolie. “We haven’t worked together for ten years. But all of the reasons why people say we should be scared of it, we feel that’s exactly why we have to do this ? because we can. So we’re going to go boldly.”
Is Jolie anxious about the prospect of being Pitt’s boss on set? “He’s a pretty strong actor! It’s going to be interesting. He’s a really great artist, such an interesting artist, and of course he’s the man I love, so I think we’re going to have a great time.”

Angelina used to let Maddox have temporary tattoos, so that?s not a surprise to me that the kids are interested in tatts. I wonder which of the girls wants some ink? Shiloh, probably.
Also, in Angelina?s People Mag interview this week, she talks about her lack of technological awareness, and how she and Brad had to hire someone to do all of the online monitoring of the kids:
Jolie calls herself “old-school” (she doesn’t use social media), although she understands that her kids are growing up in a more technologically advanced era than she did. As such, she’s made using the internet as safe as possible. “For the kids, we have someone who monitors that,” she explained. “It’s so beyond what we understand. We wouldn’t even know what to look for. It’s a scary new world. I can only imagine the trouble I would’ve gotten into. I got in enough trouble. It just would have been very documented.”

Yes, she would have gotten into SO much trouble if she had come up in the digital age and been more social media-savvy. She would have been posting kissy-selfies with Jenny Shimizu and she would have posted photos of a knife on a bed with the message ?#DateNight?. It would have been a glorious mess.

Fans are eager to see her latest film ?Unbroken? when it hits theaters on Christmas Day, and Angelina Jolie is still thinking through whether all of her kids are ready for a viewing.
The ?Gone in 60 Seconds? starlet told E! News, "It's PG-13. My boys?one is 13, one is 11 but he's a mature 11?will see it, but I think I might actually show my younger children."
As for the younger ones, "I think they could handle it because they understand film. They know the difference of what is real and what isn't, because it's heavy for [kids] under 13. But they all knew Louis [Zamperini]. They want to see it because it's Louis."
Previously, Angelina gushed over her relationship with Zamparini- "He was like a father and grandfather to me. I hope [the movie] gave him peace to know that he could pass away knowing that his message was strong, knowing that his life was long and full."
As for her toughest critic, Jolie declared, "My Maddox, the oldest. It's his job. He's a teenager."

Here are some photos of Angelina Jolie at the Director?s Guild in NYC on Friday evening, which is where she screened Unbroken. I keep forgetting that Angelina isn?t just interested in an Oscar nomination for Best Director ? she?s probably interested in a DGA nomination too. Anyway, the photo agencies are making a big deal about how much time she spent mingling with her fans. She did the same thing outside The Daily Show Thursday night ? she even took a few minutes to comfort a Brangeloonie having a panic attack!
In these pics, Angelina spent time on the rope line, taking selfies with fans and posing with ?Radio Man,? the famous homeless man who does appearances in film and TV (he?s always on The Late Show, isn?t he?). You know what the selfies reminded me of? The famous ?Oscar selfie? from earlier this year, where Angelina actually WAVED to the camera, because she doesn?t get the whole selfie thing. Well, she?s a quick learner, isn?t she? As for her outfit here ? I?m sure she chose the coat because it?s a sack in coat-form, and she has consistently excellent taste in boots.
Meanwhile, Angelina?s Unbroken men did a Q&A with HuffPo ? you can see the video here. The most interesting reveal is that Miyavi said that Angelina was ?not eating much? during the production. He said: ?It was surprising how much she trusted me, all of us, on the set. She was so determined. I was also surprised how skinny she got. You know, she was not eating much. I felt so bad I was the only one who got fat during filming.? Oh no, Miyavi! The first rule of Brangelunacy is that one must never discuss Angie?s weight!! But it does sound like all of the guys are pretty much in love with her.

Here are some photos of Angelina Jolie out and about yesterday in NYC. The photos of Angelina in the grey prairie skirt & jacket (with Garrett Hedlund) are from the day, when they did a luncheon at MoMA. The photos of Jolie in a black sack-coat are from the evening screen of Unbroken at MoMA. I don?t know if it?s Angelina?s makeup, but lately she?s been looking really exhausted. It?s not that she looks ?bad? or that she?s suddenly become unphotogenic or anything. She just looks like she needs to sleep for a week. It?s also possible that she?s sore from that car accident earlier this week.
Anyway, this is the first week where critics are finally getting to see Unbroken and publish their reviews. So far, the reaction has been? good. Solidly appreciative, at times very positive. Vulture had a great write-up about what Unbroken does for the Oscar field ? Vulture says that Unbroken will likely get a Best Picture nomination, but it will be a steeper climb for Angelina to get a Best Director nomination, much less a win. Vulture also says that Miyavi will probably end up with a Supporting Actor nomination because he?s already charming everyone on the campaign circuit. Interestingly enough, Vulture says that Unbroken will probably get an editing nomination. Which should be interesting, because the studio likely recut it without Angelina?s input. I think Unbroken is going to be a contender (the NBR thinks so too), but I agree, some of the categories are going to be harder to break into than others.
Last thing… Aussie actor Jai Courtney has a supporting part in the film, and he was being interviewed on Kiis FM?s Kyle & Jackie O show. They asked him about working with Angelina as a director, and he said: ?She just has this command.? He told a story about Angelina walking onto the hot, baking set with 300 extras and ?Everyone was getting very restless and she just walked out to have a chat to everyone and it was like… they’d never seen two hundred men shut up and stand still.?
