The other day, a die-hard stan for Angelina Jolie accused me of being anti-Jolie. Truly! Like I haven?t spent years polishing my Team Jolie medals. I?ve been ride-or-die Team Jolie for years, and I?ve been following her career, her ups and downs, her personal life and humanitarian work for years. All that being said, my girl is not perfect. She is human, she makes mistakes, she f–ks it all up occassionally, and she?s not the best at everything. A shocking admission from me, I?m sure!
For years, Jolie was really good at media management – she rarely worked with a personal publicist, preferring to organize her own personal and professional media commitments herself (or working with a studio publicist). That worked for her for years. But we?re now in 2017, and she?s going through a bitter divorce, her health is not at 100% and her focus is (rightly) on her kids rather than media relations. Which is why I think she should actually hire a real publicist right now. Because she?s f–king it up. The Vanity Fair thing was a debacle which is currently haunting the press around her film. And she should know by now that of course she?s going to get questions about Brad, and she needs to have better answers:
When ABC?s Juju Chang delicately raised the subject of Angelina Jolie?s divorce during an interview for ?Nightline? last week, the actress/director lost her temper and refused to answer. But that footage never aired.
?It?s true she got testy,? one source said. Jolie only wanted to promote ?First They Killed My Father,? the movie she directed about the genocide in Cambodia.
?It?s hard to believe she didn?t know that question was coming,? a network veteran said. ?Chang was just doing her job.?
When Chang asked Jolie, 42, about her much-publicized health issues ? hypertension and Bell?s palsy ? Jolie was clearly annoyed.
?I?m fine right now. I?m fine right now,? Jolie said. ?My children are healthy. I?m healthy.?
Jolie had her six children ? led by her oldest, Maddox, 16, who was adopted from Cambodia ? on the red carpet for the movie?s premiere, along with the child actors who appeared in her passion project. A member of Team Brad scoffed, ?She uses her kids as props.?
Jolie?s reps could not be reached for comment.
[From Page Six]
A member of Team Brad ?scoffed? and said ?she uses HER kids as props.? Huh. Something tells me Brad would love to use HER kids as props, if only the kids actually wanted to spend time with him. As for Angelina getting ?testy? – I have no idea. It?s all about tone, but I could see her getting testy, or seeming pissed off about those questions. And yes, she should have known that she would get those questions. This is what I?m saying: she has a lot on her plate right now. Hire help. There are professional publicists who know how to manage this kind of sh-t.

Angelina Jolie?s latest film, First They Killed My Father, debuted on Netflix over the weekend. Over the past few years, the rules have been smudged a little bit when it comes to streaming-service films and their eligibility for film awards. I think the current rule is that a streaming-service film can be considered for Golden Globes, SAGs, Oscars, etc, but only if there?s some kind of limited-release in actual brick-and-mortar theaters. I believe Netflix did something similar for the Oscar campaign around Beasts of No Nation – they spent the money to do a very limited theatrical release, but they were mostly focuses on the streaming. I would imagine they?re doing the same thing for FTKMF. And now we know that Cambodia?s Oscar Selection Committee has chosen Jolie?s film to be their candidate for the Best Foreign Film Oscar category.
It’s official: Angelina Jolie’s fourth film as a director, First They Killed My Father, is Cambodia’s submission for the best foreign-language film Oscar at the 90th Academy Awards.
“This means a great deal to all of us involved in making the film,” Jolie said in a statement in response to the news. “To work with local artists to bring this story forward has been a moving and humbling experience,” she added.
First They Killed My Father, was fully financed and produced by Netflix. The film is an adaptation of a memoir by Cambodian writer Loung Ung about her childhood experience of surviving the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge genocide. Untrained child actor Sareum Srey Moch has won rave reviews for her portrayal of the lead.
The Cambodia Oscar Selection Committee announced its pick Monday, saying: “First They Killed My Father explores a tragic period of history through the eyes of a child. Dialogue is at a minimum and it works well with the story told through intense cinematic images. Committee members as well as the Khmer community found the film to be cathartic, as it brought back memories often best forgotten.”
First They Killed My Father is currently screening theatrically at all major cinemas in Cambodia. Despite Netflix’s notoriety for eschewing the big screen, it’s understood that Jolie, who holds dual citizenship with Cambodia and adopted one of her children from there, felt it was important that the movie be made widely available in the country. “We’re making this first and foremost for Cambodia,” she said during the film’s U.S. premiere at Telluride last week.
The movie is also co-produced by Cambodian auteur and past Oscar nominee Rithy Panh (The Missing Picture), whose Phnom Penh-based company Bophana Production supplied production services to the project. The Missing Picture is the only Cambodian film ever be nominated for the foreign-language Oscar.
[From THR]
I pay attention to the foreign-film race when it starts heating up in January of any given year. The actual Oscar campaigning for the foreign-film categories largely fly under the radar, and let?s be honest: most of the campaigns hinge on a big name or a groundbreaking performance to get through. In years past, European films have largely dominated, although Spanish-language and Farsi-language films have been making significant inroads. I?m saying that I don?t really know what to expect here – my guess is that the film could end up with a nomination, but I doubt it would win.

True or false: Angelina Jolie has no style. I think that?s false, but I have my reasons. If we?re saying that Angelina has had bad red-carpet style for the better part of a decade, then sure, I?ll agree with that. But I actually think she has a good eye for separates and professional attire. She has a good eye for suits, pencil skirts, coats, blouses, tote bags, sweaters and well-cut slacks. I?d actually love it she started wearing those kinds of clothes to premieres instead of trying to figure out how to work a sparkly sack dress or whatever.
Anyway, these are photos of Angelina at the United Nations yesterday. She wore a flattering mid-length pencil skirt and simple blouse. This is how she should dress more often, right? Right. And I love her red-burgundy purse. Angelina and the kids flew to New York from Toronto a few days ago, and I guess Angelina wanted to check in with her UN friends. She had some kind of meeting/photo-op with UN Secretary General Antnio Guterres. Guterres used to be the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, so they?ve known each other for probably fifteen years or so.

| Angelina Jolie in Dior at the NYC 'FTKMF' premiere: princessy or boring' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some photos of Angelina Jolie and the kids at last night?s big New York premiere of First They Killed My Father. Do you recognize the designer ID without me saying it? It?s Dior! Ugh. Dior shuffled off a greyish tulle gown to Angelina instead of Jennifer Lawrence. J-Law must have been like ?another full-skirted princess dress? No thanks.? So they gave it to Angelina and I?m still not feeling it. The stripe on the skirt is sort of interesting, although I initially mistook it for a ?tier? or a ruffle and I was like ?nope.? This dress isn?t actually the worst thing, I just wish Angelina had chosen something else.
Angelina brought her kids to New York, of course, but they didn?t completely walk the red carpet with their mom. It seemed to be like this: Angelina posed solo for a little bit, then she posed with the president of Netflix, then she posed with Maddox and Pax, and then all the kids posed with Angelina and the cast. All the kids wore yellow flowers too – E! News says the yellow flowers are plumerias, ?which symbolize positivity and are used to celebrate special occasions.?
Angelina also told People Magazine in Toronto that her kids made her change clothes before she did press during the film festival: ?The reason I was a little late [to the interview] is they made me change. They thought what I was wearing was too revealing.? I kind of wonder if the same thing happened at this premiere? Like, Angelina was going to wear a black leather ensemble and her kids vetoed it and wanted her to wear the romantic princess dress?

In addition to this week?s People Magazine cover story, Angelina Jolie also sat down for a long interview with the New York Times. Jolie has a long-term relationship with the paper of record – she?s written op-eds for the NYT, and she?s given them exclusive interviews before. This interview took place in her new $25 million Hollywood home, and much like the Vanity Fair cover story, the kids are running around as mama?s trying to talk to the journalist. At the very beginning, Knox finds Angelina and tells her that Shiloh needs her – Shiloh?s bearded dragon is sick and at the vet, and Angelina tells the NYT ?that will be the rest of my day.? You can read the full piece here at the NYT. Some highlights:
Her priority during this past year: “None of it?s easy. It?s very, very difficult, a very painful situation, and I just want my family healthy. They?re getting better…I never expect to be the one that everybody understands or likes. And that?s OK, because I know who I am, and the kids know who I am.”
Deciding to buy this house: “It took me a few months to realize that I was really going to have to do it. That there was going to have to be another base regardless of everything,” Jolie continued, adding that it’s like living in a fraternity. “That there was going to have to be a home. Another home.” According to the NYT, the children helped their famous mom decorate and pick out furniture. “It has a lot of moments. It?s happy. Happy and light, and we needed that.”
Her kids are her best friends: “They really help me so much. We?re really such a unit. They?re the best friends I?ve ever had. Nobody in my life has ever stood by me more.”
[From Us Weekly & the NYT]
There are some interesting details in there, about how Angelina loves the heat, and how she never works out and how the kids are always working with tutors, learning new languages and, like, physics. But this is telling isn?t it? ?I never expect to be the one that everybody understands or likes. And that?s OK, because I know who I am, and the kids know who I am.? Angelina knows that her public image has taken a hit since she left Brad. And she?s fine with it. Most celebrities/movie stars wouldn?t be fine with it. There would be a lot of ?why don?t you like me? self-awareness from most celebrities. But Angelina wears it lightly, as always.

| Maddox Jolie-Pitt: My mom is 'fun, funny, easy to work with ' she's a wonder' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

While I don?t doubt that every one of her children changed Angelina Jolie?s life, Maddox was her first and he still represents the biggest, most life-altering change of course. For years, it was just Angelina and Maddox, and then there was Brad. Then Zahara, then Shiloh, then Pax and then the twins. I sometimes wonder if Maddox has been Angelina?s ?rock? this entire time. It was Maddox who allegedly got in between Brad and Angelina on the private plane last year. Whatever went down on that plane, it happened between Maddox and Brad. Angelina made a choice that day, and her choice was to protect Maddox and leave Brad. Allegedly, Maddox still hasn?t made his peace with Brad either – Madd is 16 years old now and no therapist can convince him or order him to spend time with Brad. So Maddox has also made his choice: he?s Team Jolie, OG-style.
Anyway, Maddox had a real position on First They Killed My Father. Angelina made him executive producer on the film, and she put him to work as some kind of catch-all, part producer, part editor, part PA. Maddox is also participating in the promotion for the film, and he granted an interview to People Magazine as part of Angelina?s cover story.
At just 16, Maddox Jolie-Pitt has an executive producer credit under his belt after working alongside his mother Angelina Jolie on the upcoming drama First They Killed My Father. Maddox tells PEOPLE exclusively in the magazine?s new cover story with Jolie that he pitched in on meetings, prepped for shoots and helped review dailies on the drama Jolie directed for Netflix (out Friday), based on her friend Loung Ung?s memoir about surviving the Khmer Rouge genocide in Cambodia. Maddox?s brother Pax, 13, was also part of the production and served as a set photographer.
?I was trying to help wherever I could,? says Maddox, the oldest of Jolie?s six children.
And what did he think about working with his mom?
?[She?s] fun, funny, and easy to work with,? he says. ?She?s a wonder.?
Asked what he loves most about Cambodia, Maddox says, ?the people by far. [They are] calm, relaxed, and when they want to do something wild, they do it ? much like me in a way. I?m proud to be a Cambodian.?
In addition to his foray into filmmaking, Maddox has been taking flying lessons and speaks multiple languages, Angelina Jolie reveals.
?He?s quite capable and always takes me by surprise,? she says proudly. ?He?s been practicing flying, then they called me the other day and said, ?So Mad can go solo,? and I nearly dropped the phone! He?s been taking French and Russian and all these different languages. I hear him talking in full, fluent French, and they?ll tell me he?s reached a certain level in his German, and I have no idea. He doesn?t do it in front of me.?
[From People]
Maddox is fluent in French and he?s working on German? Bonjour and guttentag, Maddox! When the kids were much smaller, I used to dream about their future jobs, but I didn?t think it would be like this. I didn?t think Maddox would end up a nepotism-producer, but hey, at least he?s more interested in that kind of stuff than in, like, modeling and Instagramming? And if Angelina is into getting her kids some jobs through nepotism, can Pax PLEASE get a modeling contract? This kid?s bone structure is otherworldly. You know what else shocks me? That Zahara hasn?t already organized everything in this family. Please – Zahara has always been the one in charge.

| Angelina Jolie is 'raised by my children?, wants them 'to have a strong work ethic' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Angelina Jolie didn?t just spend Monday preparing for the TIFF red carpet for First They Killed My Father. She also took part in the Canadian Women?s Summit, aka the Women of the World Summit, in Toronto. She apparently got to meet Justin Trudeau, who was also speaking at the event. The photos in this post are from her appearances around Toronto over the past few days. Here are some quotes from her conversation and TIFF interviews:
She wants her kids to be empathetic: “Connecting with and helping other people is a pleasure and a privilege. I want them to be with people in other countries, to enjoy them and celebrate them. Yes, I want them to have empathy, but that comes naturally if they?re exposed? My children teach me. I’m raised by my children. I see the world through their eyes and I?m better for it.”
She wants her kids to have a work ethic: ?It was a joy. I want them to have a strong work ethic. When I looked over and I saw [Maddox] and Pax working with the other crew [?] it was just wonderful.?
Packing & traveling: ?Packing for me is like a military exercise. They?re getting older now, so the older ones help the younger ones, and actually they?re quite efficient.?
[From Hello & Divine CA]
I imagine if you were a Jolie-Pitt kid, you would have to be good at packing. I was a good traveler when I was little, and I was affected by wanderlust in my teens, but even then? my natural state is ?homebody? and I do wonder sometimes if the Jolie-Pitt kids are going to want to travel when they get older? Like, will all of Angelina?s wanderlust affect them positively or negatively? Will they want to continue to travel constantly when they have the choice? Or will they just get an apartment in LA and stay in one place for two decades?
Also – Entertainment Tonight has some eyewitnesses talking about how all the Jolie-Pitt kids were very well-behaved during all of their TIFF outings. I think that?s true – the kids seem to be polite, curious and sweet overall.

Angelina Jolie has arrived in Toronto to promote and represent a few films. People are focused on the TIFF premiere of First They Killed My Father, which comes tonight (I think), but last night, Angelina and four of her kids attended the premiere for the animated film The Breadwinner. Jolie executive produced the film about a girl, Parvana, living in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. Parvana ?must dress as a boy so she can work to support her mother Fattema and her sister Soraya.?
For the premiere, Angelina wore a white ensemble that looks like a pair of pajamas. I had a pair of silk pajama bottoms that looked so much like these pants, only mine were dove grey. Obviously, Angelina?s style default is general slouchy and sacky, and this ensemble fulfills that. While the pants are way too long, I still think this looks rather chic on her. I?m also happy to see that she doesn?t look painfully thin – in years past, I?ve winced a little bit sometimes when I see her in something sleeveless. She loses weight from her arms quickly, which I wish is something that my body would do. Anyway, she looks like a healthy-ish weight to me.
The kids look cute, although I think Shiloh picked out Vivienne?s outfit! Viv is usually the girly-girl in dresses and florals, but she looks like a little mini-Shiloh here. Knox looks so much like Brad, and Zahara?s the only one wearing a dress.

| Angelina Jolie will do a 'In Conversation With' talk at the Toronto Film Festival | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Angelina Jolie is due to premiere First They Killed My Father at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. The TIFF swing has been on her schedule for months, and many people believe Jolie is waiting to get to Toronto so she can do some much-needed PR clean-up on her Vanity Fair interview and everything that happened around it. So? this is probably where it will happen: Jolie has signed on to do an ?In Conversation With? discussion at the film festival.
Javier Bardem, Gael Garca Bernal, Angelina Jolie and Helen Mirren will headline a series of public conversations about their careers as part of this year?s Toronto Film Festival. Many of these actors and filmmakers aren?t just trekking to Canada to take a jaunt down memory lane. They?re also on hand to launch new films. Jolie is bringing ?First They Killed My Father,? a drama about the Cambodian genocide that she made for Netflix, to the gathering.
[From Variety]
Generally, these ?In Conversation With? talks are basically like an episode of Inside the Actor?s Studio – it?s a career retrospective where the actor or director can expect to answer questions about anything and everything involving their filmography. Considering how little Angelina has worked in the past decade (in comparison with other actresses around the same age), I would imagine that most of the conversation probably will be about First They Killed My Father. Fingers crossed that she has better answers and explanations at TIFF than she did during her VF interview!
Also: today is Brad and Angelina’s third wedding anniversary. Sad.

I had several realizations all at once as I looked through these photos of Angelina Jolie and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt out and about in Los Feliz on the Fourth of July. One, I suddenly realized that Angelina Jolie and I both have the same ?who cares?? haircut and hair length. I wonder if she went to Super Cuts too? Because it looks like she went into one of those cheap places and told them ?Just take a few inches off, I don?t care.?
The second realization? I realized that Angelina has now gone Full Sack. While she?s always had a penchant for sack-dresses, this black sack takes it to the next-level. This is just a sheet. A long, black, shapeless, sack-sheet. With some kind of black trousers underneath. It?s so weird. Even when I went through my goth phase in my teens, I veered more towards ?figure-conscious witch-wear? rather than shapeless black sacks. Don?t get me wrong, I love that Angelina doesn?t give a crap. It?s refreshing that she wanders around Los Feliz, looking ghoulish and witchy on America?s birthday.
Anyway, Angelina and Vivienne went to the grocery store on Independence Day. SO DID I. I wonder if – like me – Angelina had to run out because she was running low on Diet Pepsi and Independence Day snacks. Did she also spend the day binge-watching ESPN?s coverage of Wimbledon? Because that would just be weird.
Last thing: Vivienne looks SO MUCH like Brad in that profile shot.
