| Mariah Carey calls music execs 'idiots' for failing to take advantage of Internet | Added 15 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Mariah Carey is fuming at the short-sighted, small-minded record execs who failed to harness the potential of the internet for downloading music. She cited artists like Prince, who sold his music online long before anyone else. Mariah flat-out called them idiots and stupid (though at least she didn?t name names) and pointed out that they?re supposed to be intelligent, powerful people. Instead they proved they?re hardly innovative.
Mariah Carey has blamed music industry bosses for failing to spot the internet download trend - accusing record labels of letting their artists down by allowing illegal file-sharing to become commonplace.
Carey is adamant label bosses should have realised the potential of the internet a long time before illicit song swapping became prevalent, and she’s furious because the practise means many musicians lose out on precious royalty money.
The Hero hitmaker insists that although record labels are slowly beginning to grasp the potential of the internet, they will never be able to repair the damage done by illegal downloads, because many consumers now feel entitled to get their music for free.
She says, “Frickin’ idiots! A lot of big, powerful music industry executives made a giant mistake and now we’re all paying the price. They gave the music business away on the internet. If they had just sat back and said, ‘Maybe let’s figure this internet thing out, it could be something cool,’ we could have found a way to distribute music online on our own terms, not somebody else’s.
“Prince had already shown them the way. He was so far ahead of the curve, putting his records out on the web. Everyone else was stupid.”
[From Contact Music]
I don?t blame any musician for being pissed that their music is being given away for free. I don?t think the solution is to alienate their fans ? remember when Metallica sued the fans who downloaded their music? But musicians work hard on creating their songs. No matter how much money they do or don?t have, it?s their work product and the deserve to be compensated.
Though the RIAA spent a great many years suing the pants off people who shared music for free, it hasn?t helped artists, who now have a serious problem selling music. If the record companies had created a large, legitimate venue for music downloads before ? or even right after ? Napster and other file-swapping programs became a hit, they could have saved their profits. But now that people have gotten in the habit of downloading music for free, it?s hard to change that mindset. iTunes helped out a lot, but it still took several years from the time file swapping software came out until iTunes had a good collection of music to buy.
All that said, Mariah?s doing alright. She?s super successful so it?s not like she?s hurting. I can?t help but wonder what her goal is with all this. It?s a fair point, but it?s something people were saying a long time ago. I wouldn?t think that randomly pissing off record industry bigwigs would help her out any. I completely see her point, I?m just wondering why.

Mariah Carey put on quite a show as she arrived at London’s Dorchester hotel at 1am this morning.Despite the early hour, the singing diva happily posed for photographers rather than head straight inside to top up on her beauty sleep. In typical style, the star flaunted her ample curves in a low-cut satin dress that appeared several sizes too small. She also had several beefy minders with her who jumped into action as soon as one particular gentleman tried to get too close for comfort.Mariah is in town to promote her new album Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, out later this month.

Mariah Carey appeared on Letterman the other night and once again she stuffed her fat boobies into a skin tight dress. I know many of you guys love Mariah with all this extra junk, and to be honest when we get pictures of mostly her upper half, I do too. She looks very comfortable.

All glammed up in her swanky garb, Mariah Carey was spotted arriving to continue shooting her latest music video in New York City on Friday afternoon (November 6).
The day’s video shoot comes after a sexy Malibu beach filming session earlier in the week, with the Grammy winning singer continuing to put together the final cut of “H.A.T.E.U.”.
Meanwhile, Mariah recently chatted with Larry King, during which time she shot down those always-persistent pregnancy rumors.
When asked if she’s expecting, Mimi replied, “Right now? I’m going to take a swig of my scotch and let you know.”
The 40-year-old hitmaker continued to say that pregnancy “would be the happiest thing in my life, but what I’m saying is right now with this movie [Precious] coming out, with the next few singles from the album and those things that I’m doing, I need to focus on that because I cannot do the having-a-child thing halfway.”

There are always plenty of parties in New York on New Year's Eve, but despite the chaos in Times Square, the best shindig is usually at Madison Square Garden. In the past few years, the venue has hosted a high-profile music act to ring in the new year. The spot is typically reserved for jam bands (Phish have hosted legendary marathon shows in the building, while last year's headliner was My Morning Jacket, who jammed their way into 2009), but this year's show will focus on a true superstar: Mariah Carey.
Carey announced that she would be headlining MSG on New Year's Eve via her Twitter and on her Web site on Thursday night.
"Mariah Carey, the #1 most successful female recording artist of all time will be live at New York's famous Madison Square Garden for a special New Year's Eve performance!" the announcement on her site reads. "Join Mariah as she bids farewell to 2009 in superstar style and gets ready to ring in 2010!"
The announcement doesn't include any information about opening acts or special guests, though it promises that Mariah will perform hits, including her latest singles, "Obsessed" and "H.A.T.E.U.," and other songs from Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.
This Monday tickets will go on sale for members of her Honey B. Fly fan club, who also have the opportunity to enter to win a pair of front-row tickets. For the rest of the public, tickets will be available next Saturday, November 14.
