In my youth, I kissed a lot of boys with this haircut. It?s the ?skater boy haircut? from the 1990s. And I still don?t know how I feel about this haircut making a comeback right now, for women. I think I might hate it? These are photos of Katy Perry at the iHeartRadio Music Awards last night. This was Katy?s first big appearance since the announcement that she and Orlando Bloom had broken up. Kate has spent the past few weeks (seemingly post-split) making some radical changes to her hair, from black to blonde, and then from blonde to brown, then from longer hair to a choppy lob, then from a choppy lob to what we see now, Skater Boy ?90s Hair. Miley Cyrus did this too. Kate Gosselin did it back in the day. Scarlett Johansson has had similar hair for a while as well. So what does Katy say about her new haircut?
?Well yeah, if you?re going this extreme it should, hello! I?m trying to get more attention, obviously. You can just grow it back. Honestly, I tried to take my full head of hair platinum and I had a lot of breakage. I?ve always wanted to look like Miley Cyrus. I?ve always wanted to have that pixie haircut, so I said, ?Let?s just go for it.’ I feel like there?s a new wave, a new authentic vibe coming in and I think this matches. I want to redefine what it means to be feminine. Look at Scarlett Johansson, who?s one of the most beautiful women in the world. We have the same haircut and I saw her at an Oscars party and was like, ?I?m doing it.? You?re hot, you can be hot and look great with this kind of hair. Why not??

Well, at least she?s not pretending that she invented the haircut or whatever, although I think the ?redefining feminine? comment is pretty eye-rolly. I spent much of 2016 defending Katy, but between her comments about Britney Spears and how she?s behaving post-breakup, I kind of think Katy needs to chill a bit. Women have been ?redefining feminine? with short hair for decades, from Audrey Hepburn to Twiggy to Princess Diana. Chill, Katy. Also: her pantsuit (YES THESE ARE PANTS!) is by August Getty.
What else happened at the iHeartRadio Awards? Bruno Mars performed. So did Shawn Mendes, who annoys me. And Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop This Feeling!” won an award and JT tried to make it about LGBTQ kids and kids who feel different.
“I wrote this song because I wanted it to be about inclusion, about being together. And so I guess I want to take this opportunity and speak to young people right now ’cause there’s a lot of you looking at me, if you are black or you are brown or you are gay or you’re a lesbian or you are trans, or maybe you’re just a sissy singing boy from Tennessee, anyone that is treating you unkindly, it’s only because they are afraid or have been taught to be afraid of how important you are…Because being different means you make the difference,” added Timberlake, who ended his speech with an expletive that was bleeped.

Much like Katy, I feel like JT is sort of riding on a decade?s worth of activism. I mean, it?s a good message and I?m sure there are a lot of kids out there who appreciate hearing that from Justin Timberlake. But does it feel like a bandwagon-jumping pander? Sort of.

Here are some photos from Sunday night?s Vanity Fair Oscar party. Tons of people came out for the VF party, so we?re going to devote many posts to Oscar-party fashion posts. Here?s Katy Perry in Jean Paul Gaultier, which I surprisingly do not hate. Usually I find Gaultier rather overworked and silly, but this looks great on her. I?m still not liking the blonde on her though. She shouldn?t necessarily go back to black, but this shade of blonde isn?t working. Also: Orlando Bloom attended this party too, but they didn?t pose together on the carpet.
Sofia Vergara in Michael Kors. This gown has been around for a while – Piper Perabo wore a version of this as her wedding gown, and Jennifer Lopez and Naomi Campbell have worn this dress too. That being said, I like this on Sofia. She?s usually busting out of some mermaid dress, so it?s nice to see her in something different. Her date was her husband Joe Manganiello.
Jon Hamm was there! He looks good.
Jerry Hall and Rupert Murdoch attended the party. Jerry looks pretty happy. While I?m sure Murdoch is an evil bastard in business and in general, he seems to adore Jerry.
Alessandra Ambrosio in Ralph & Russo. Ugh, she?s so try-hard.

2016 was the year I finally got on the Katy Perry Train. I?d always been sort of meh on her as an artist and as a celebrity. But it felt like she grew up, got political, put her time and money where her mouth is, and generally started taking no prisoners. I also think she came out ahead, long-term, with the whole Taylor Swift thing, but other people are free to disagree. In any case, I was looking forward to Katy?s next chapter and I had high hopes for her new album. But the first single kind of sucks (it?s just too generic-pop) and I?m not liking her new ?look? either. Her hair looks so much like Khloe Kardashian?s hair. And Katy?s Tom Ford dress at the Grammys was? no bueno. It was super-unflattering and I couldn?t even believe it was Tom Ford. She just looks like a Real Housewife now. Ugh.
I feel like I?m so old but I have zero idea why I should care about Kelsea Ballerini or the way she spells her name (KELSEA are you joking?). But here she is. She looks a bit like Elisabeth Moss, right? She wore Ines di Santo. I don?t hate it? It feels like something Taylor Swift would have worn five years ago.
Camila Cabello is famous for being one part of Fifth Harmony? before she split with the group last year, in what was an absorbing drama for tweens. This was Camila?s ?first time? at the Grammys as a solo celebrity, and her fans were waiting for her. Like, I saw so much stuff about her on Twitter, and I was sitting there like, ?Really? The Fifth Harmony girl?? Anyway, Camila wore this MIRI Couture gown which? seems a bit princess-y for the Grammys. It?s rock and roll, not the Golden Globes! (Also, this looks like a mall dress, which is probably on-brand for her.)

Here are some photos of Katy Perry at the 12th Annual UNICEF Snowflake Ball. Katy was being honored by UNICEF because after just a few years as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, she?s already raised $1 million for the non-profit. For the event, Katy once again chose a Marchesa dress, and I have no idea why. Katy is a big deal and she probably has tons of great designers vying to dress her. But she keeps going to Marchesa. While this gown isn?t the worst Marchesa piece I?ve ever seen, it still gives off a cheap vibe, like it?s a prom dress from the mall. No disrespect to mall-bought prom dresses, but I expect more from Katy.
Katy?s date for the evening was Orlando Bloom, her boyfriend of some-odd eleven months. While there were rumors that Orly and Katy had split in the weeks following the election, they?re still happening. They spent Thanksgiving together. And now Entertainment Tonight is trying to make it sound like they?re engaged! ET got some exclusive photos of Katy and Orlando out to dinner a few nights ago ? go here to see. Katy looks like she?s wearing a giant canary diamond ring on her engagement hand. But in these photos from the UNICEF Snowflake Ball, the ring is nowhere to be seen. Hm.
As for Katy?s honor, she was given the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award at this event. The award was presented to her by Hillary Clinton! Katy was #WithHer-ing for the Clinton campaign for more than a year, performing at the DNC and several major Clinton rallies. It was nice of Hillary Clinton to come out and support Katy. Hillary told the crowd:
?On a personal level, I cannot tell you how delighted I am to be here to help celebrate a global megastar. I have seen Katy?s commitment to the causes she believes in firsthand. I?ve gotten to spend time with her and I know how deeply she cares about making our world a better place. She is serious about understanding the complex problems we face and pulling people together to solve them. We need champions like Katy now more than ever: her passion, her energy and, yes, her voice, louder than a lion.?
Perry received the award after raising more than a $1 Million for UNICEF and serving as an ambassador for the global nonprofit for the past few years. Perry tossed the glowing compliments right back at the former Secretary of State with her acceptance speech: ?I?ve always had a voice ? a singing voice ? but I?ve never had a voice like I?ve had before. Hillary has lit that voice inside of me, and that light will never go out, it will continue to get brighter and brighter and brighter. Thank you Hillary.?

This honestly has me tearing up. GAH. Who would have thought that a Katy Perry story would have me all emotional? But it?s so painful to think of all of these young women who really believed in Hillary Clinton and female empowerment. It?s painful to think of what all of those young women have been shown about the reality of the world with Donald Trump?s victory.

Last night?s Cannes amfAR gala definitely felt sort of light on the glamour? So I?m actually glad that Katy Perry came out and tried to take it over with this costume-y Marchesa gown. Anyway else, to any other event, I would have absolutely loathed this. But at the moment, I kind of like it. It?s big, it?s silly, it?s ridiculous, it?s totally Cannes. My one problem is that her hair is way too severe. She didn?t need to do a slicked-down center part.
Karlie Kloss also wore Marchesa and I honestly think this looks great on her. I only wish it was a tad longer. And again with the center part! Ugh.
Chanel Iman in Marchesa. This is my least favorite of the Marchesa dresses. She was pretty exposed from the back too, but she liked it ? she kept giving photographers her back angles.

Doutzen Kroes in Tom Ford. I love Doutzen and I love Tom Ford, but I?m not feeling this look. The dress is too ?80s, the hair is too whatever, and she looks more like she?s about to attend a yacht party than the amfAR gala.
Eva Herzigova was one of the few (perhaps only) women in Dior. I like the cape and I like the minidress. Neither is the best thing ever, but she looks good.
Sonam Kapoor in Ralph & Russo. If you had told me this was Marchesa, I would have believed you. It has that costume-y flair. I know a lot of you have been enjoying Sonam?s Cannes style but I think she?s looked overdone.

he superstar singer looked super cute in this printed playsuit that left us with serious stars in our eyes. The sky blue pick couldn’t be more summery with its bright hue, but Katy had made it even more season-appropriate by teaming with coral slip-on sandals and a pair of white sunnies.
