Controversial opinion: I love Katy Perry?s current hairstyle. The color could be softer but the style is darling and I kind of wish I could pull it off. Katy, as we know, recently got engaged to her maybe-we-are-maybe-we-aren?t partner, Orlando Bloom. Honestly, I didn?t think they had it in them to go the distance, but I was surprised at how happy I was to hear the news. So far, all we knew was that they got engaged and what Katy?s ring looked like. But while on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote American Idol, Katy gave some details about the proposal, and it sounds simply? hilarious. Apparently, it was supposed to be a grand romantic adventure and it turned into a wine-soaked debacle, which is good for us because that?s a more interesting story.
It was Valentine?s Day, usually people are breaking up or having major displays of affection. This one was a good one. We went to dinner and I thought we were going to see some art after dinner, but we pulled up to a helicopter. It was really sweet, he asked me to marry him in a helicopter. Actually, the funny part is, we had champagne in the helicopter and the box was in his pocket and he had written a note with everything he wanted to say in a note you know, to divert, right? He was going to pull (the ring) out while I?m reading it. So I?m reading it, but I?m hearing, like, the champagne is broken, the bottle?s everywhere and I?m still looking at the note because he?s pulling out this box that?s too big for his coat pocket and it rips his coat pocket and his elbow goes into the champagne and I?m, like, ?No, I?m just reading the note, I know you?re not doing anything.?
Katy said that when the helicopter landed, her family and friends were waiting to congratulate them so it all worked out and she was very happy. I?m glad it?s the proposal she wanted. I did not want a dramatic or public proposal, mainly because I didn?t want anyone to know I was getting proposed to before me. But if I were to have something over the top, I would definitely have wanted it to go t!ts up like this one. I won?t even start on the logistics of getting an oversized box into a too-small pocket, but could you imagine? All the planning and effort and things start, literally, coming apart at the seams. And I?m just inferring here, but I?d guess Orlando forewent the bended knee because he didn?t want a trouser leg drenched in champagne for the engagement party awaiting them. He?s lucky the ring didn?t go flying out the window. Some bobcat would be running around Malibu Canyon telling hikers she?d just landed Legolas. As for the ring, Katy told Kimmel that she?d ?voiced her opinion? on which ring she wanted. Considering how similar it looks to the former Mrs. Bloom?s, one wonders where she got her inspiration.
Katy started the clip talking about In N Out Burger and how she and Orlando originally bonded over it. I wonder of the rest if you get tired of Californians talking about In N Out? I feel like we talk about it way too much, especially since *warning ? second controversial opinion* it?s just okay. Our avocados, however, now there?s something to go on about.

This year?s Black History Month has been one for the ages, and we?re not even halfway through the month. Just in the past 11 days, we?ve had the racist shenanigans here in Virginia, the attempts to discredit the African-American presidential candidates, Cindy McCain calling security on a mother and child who weren?t the same race, Joy Behar also having a blackface incident in her past, and on and on. Adding to all of that, the fashion industry has gone buck fking wild with racist bullsh-t, and it?s all coming to a head this month. Last week, Gucci pulled these sweaters from their stores:

I don?t know why Katy Perry felt compelled to tell us she humped a tree but she did and now we need to address it. Katy posted a photo on her Instagram Stories of a suspension peport from when she attended Santa Barbara Christian School. Over the photo, she wrote the caption: When I was suspended in 6th grade for humping a tree and I guess other stuff The report itself, made out in Katy?s original name, Katy Hudson, proceeds to give several details that didn?t exactly seem necessary to include, like the fact that the tree was standing in for Tom Cruise.

Here are some photos from the Global Ocean Gala in Monte Carlo last night. Prince Albert of Monaco has several big causes, and the environment and protecting the oceans are two of his biggest (he?s also a huge supporter of the Olympics and the Red Cross). You know the Global Ocean Gala was important because Princess Charlene even came out for it. And good lord, she looks like she?s been ?medicated.? Her gown is terrible, as is her makeup. And hair, for the matter.
The big story from the Ocean Gala was that Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom attended? and this is their first time making a coupled-up red carpet appearance. They?ve been at the same events before, and Orlando has even been Katy?s ?date? at some events, but she?s never let him walk the red carpet with her, which is sort of funny. She?s like ?actually I don?t want to remind people that we?re together, we cool?? Katy?s hair, makeup and gown are also hideous, almost like she was really trying to look as awful as Charlene.
Oooh, look at Pierre Casiraghi and his wife Beatrice Casiraghi. She?s crazy-beautiful, but her terrible gown made me laugh. Even beautiful women sometimes choose terrible clothes.

For the life of me, I still don?t understand the criticism of Meghan Markle?s Givenchy wedding gown. Critics claimed that it wasn?t fit properly, or that Meghan had lost a significant amount of weight just before the wedding. Like, a team of ateliers was working on this gown and they would have done anything to get it just right. So what makes people think they didn?t get it right? Because it was a bit loose? Because it wasn?t skin-tight? Clearly, Meghan didn?t WANT body-con. She didn?t want it too be crazy-tight. She wanted some ?give? because she knew she would be standing and sitting and walking. But some people just have to pick-pick-pick. People like? Katy Perry.
Katy Perry tells it like it is! On Sunday, the 33-year-old pop star opened up to ET?s Lauren Zima about this weekend?s biggest event ? Prince Harry and Meghan Markles royal wedding ? during night one of the American Idol finals.
?I would have done one more fitting,? Perry quipped of Markle?s stunning Givenchy gown. ?I?m never not going to tell the truth! One more fitting, but I love you.?
The Idol judge added that she preferred Kate Middleton?s 2011 Alexander McQueen bridal look, declaring, ?Kate, Kate, Kate won, Kate won!? Despite her slight criticism of Markle?s dress, Perry couldnt be more thrilled for the newlyweds.
?I?m so happy for them, and, you know, I don?t know them from Adam, but it?s amazing what she?s doing with all this, her humanitarian efforts, she said. You know, the fact that she?s a proud feminist, I love all that. I support her as another woman and love her and wish them both well.?

Since Katy did the comparison, I?ll go along: Kate and Meghan?s wedding gowns reflect their personalities. Kate?s gown was a tight, pinched and fussy, with extra doily realness. Meg?s was elegant and deceptively simple. Meg?s was comfortable-looking and chic, and Kate?s was obvious. As I said? with the quality of people working on Meghan?s gown, why do you think that it didn?t fit her exactly the way she wanted it to fit?

The theme of the 2018 Met Gala was ?Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,? and oh my God, was this one of the best themes in the history of the Met Gala. People had so much FUN with it. Some interpretations were very literal like, people dressed up in New Fashion-Forward Pope Gear but many people used religious art, gospel, and Catholic imagery to create their own twists on the theme. Katy Perry was one of the more literal-themed people. Katy came dressed as an angel. And it was awesome?? I think it was awesome. This is a custom Versace and on the cream-and-gold carpet, Katy posed like a kneeling (perhaps fallen?) angel. The Versace dress was gold chainmail and her wings spanned six feet? but it looks like more. She almost knocked out her stylist with her wings!

As everyone knows – but few care, I suspect – American Idol is being rebooted on a new network. The reboot will air in 2018, but the hype for the reboot has already started, big-time. The one-time hit show used to air on Fox, and now it?s moved to ABC. Conceptually, the show will be the same, with the same producers and same general formula. They?ve brought back Ryan Seacrest too, but of course they hired all new judges. Katy Perry was the first major name to sign on – that happened earlier this year, in May.
Katy is a big deal, and she negotiated her contract with ABC like she was and is a big deal too. At the end of the day, ABC agreed to Katy?s terms and they signed her up with a $25 million contract. Ever since then, there?s been endless bitching from ?sources? about how Katy Perry Took All The Money and Katy Perry Didn?t Leave Any Money For Anybody Else and Katy Perry Is A Ballbusting Diva Because She Demands So Much Money. It?s all pretty sexist, and I would imagine that those articles and headlines would not exist if a man had negotiated his worth to a major network. Eventually, ABC did hire the other judges: Luke Bryan (?the poor man?s Blake Shelton?) and Lionel Richie. ?Sources? are still bitching about the money Katy?s getting though.
Katy Perry?s big $25 million payday at ?American Idol? has created huge drama at ABC and at the relaunched singing competition. The ?Firework? singer?s deal left ?pennies? for fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. We?re told that Ryan Seacrest?s hefty salary of about $15 million also cut deeply into the budget.
?ABC was originally going to spend no more than $50 million on talent. They had to expand their budget for Lionel,? one TV insider told us. An ABC network source told us the decision to cough up such an obscene amount for Perry was the doing of CEO/President Ben Sherwood, who personally signed off on the talent deals.
?Ben Sherwood blew the budget on Katy without thinking how that would impact other areas of the show budget. He gambled on her because of her appeal to a younger audience and huge social-media following. But Katy is effectively taking money from the other judges, who then had to be paid way less,? the source said.
Then the fireworks ignited with Bryan and Richie. ?The negotiations with Luke and Lionel have been fraught and difficult because of [Katy?s paycheck]. They expected similar deals to Katy, but are, in fact, getting a hell of a lot less. In the end, ABC had to cough up a second round of money to sign the other judges.?
?Idol? initially offered Richie and Bryan a measly $2.5 million each to take the gig, but the offended singers demanded more, and refused to sign their deals, which postponed ABC?s big talent announcement. ?As of last week, their contracts were not done. Sherwood authorized ABC to cough up more money. They?re both making about $7 million each now. This has become a very expensive show. If ?Idol? doesn?t work, it will blow up big time in Sherwood?s face. If it does work, he?s a genius,? the network source said.
Despite numerous sources describing the drama over the show deals, an ABC rep claimed to Page Six that it?s ?not true. Ben never had to get involved, and the deals were done within the original ABC talent budget for the show.?

For the love of God, ?sources.? NONE OF THIS IS KATY?S FAULT. Katy negotiated her contract and held out for what she believed she was worth: that should be applauded, and I?m applauding her for it, because it?s a rarity for women to do that. If ABC blew their load, THAT?S ON ABC. Not Katy. That?s ABC?s bad management, not Katy being a diva or whatever. I absolutely loathe the sexism around Katy?s contract this year – it?s almost as if the male-dominated media is going out of their way to ?punish? a woman who makes sure she gets paid more than men. Who would have thunk.
Also: if they were looking for cost-cutting measures on the ?talent,? I have a very easy fix: don?t give Ryan Seacrest a $15 million contract. Trained monkeys could do his job. Rando C-list actors could do his job. Seacrest is not worth $15 million.

When it was first announced that Katy Perry had scored a $25 million-dollar payday to be a judge on American Idol, many insiders were left scratching their heads. It was incredible to see a female performer making equal pay to a man, but given that Katy’s salary was half AI’s talent budget, this decision didn’t seem wise. Katy is a great concert performer but Idol is a reality competition show, the two don?t equate. The decision was publicly questioned enough that earlier this month, ABC execs issued a statement defending their investment in Katy, saying they?d ?hit the jackpot? with her. A few short weeks later, those execs are supposedly singing a different tune, questioning having hired Katy in the first place. So what happened between then and now to turn ABC so sour? The MTV?s VMAs hosted by their $25 million dollar jackpot happened.

As CB covered in her recap, most of Katy?s problem at the VMAs was due to the writers ? they gave her terrible material. Katy was simply not seasoned enough to pull it off. While watching her ?saved as draft? bit, Katy was unable to 1) execute the (terrible) lines with any conviction or 2) able to save the bit once it started failing. She rushed the end so much, I wondered if she cut part of it. However, just as I don?t think a good concert performer is necessarily a good award show host, I don?t think poor hosting duties means the person can?t be a perfectly fine reality show judge. Plenty of people who do a great job from behind a desk on TV have done a poor job hosting awards shows. Maybe ABC is wondering if their offer wasn?t a bit too much but I don?t think they?re panicking. Plus, Katy had a problem reading lines, wouldn?t the judges be speaking more off the cuff? Provided she stays away from commenting on mental illness, she?ll be fine. I don?t understand the whole part about wanting, ?a more modulated and thoughtful Katy.? I don?t think she?ll upstage the contestants. Katy isn?t the subtlest person but she is professional.
In case you haven?t met your Daily ?Ewwwww? quota yet, read on, MacDuff. Katy is being sued over a big toe. Christina Fish, who was hired as a stagehand for Katy?s Prismatic World Tour, had her toe crushed while moving a set wall. Due to ensuing injury, the toe eventually had to be amputated. Christina is suing a bunch of people but Katy is on the list because it was her tour and apparently, no one offered to call an ambulance. However, it sounds like the bulk of Christina?s distress comes from bad advice from her doctors so I don?t know why she is going after Katy.
