Jennifer Garner really lets her Type-A supermom flag fly on Instagram and it’s been a great thing for her. I would be somewhat mortified to be so open on social media, but I’m a writer not a video blogger and she’s not doing anything different than other people. In case you think I’m exaggerating, watch this video of her making the dough for biscuits. See what I mean? She loves all that stuff, she likes to share it with people, and she?s changed from just leaking stories about her family (although she and/or Ben have PR people who still do that) to sharing anecdotes about her life. She doesn’t post photos or videos of her kids but she did recently post a note, Samuel, five, left in a library book. It reads ?Hello, You are loved. I believe in you? and has a little heart after it. Here it is.

Above is a photo of Jennifer Garner at premiere of her film The Tribes of Palos Verdes over the weekend. She’s wearing a cranberry velvet Johanna Ortiz gown with several edits, as you can see from this Instagram by The Fashion Court. The original dress had an entire right sleeve instead of just one wide strap and it was also even at the hem instead of asymmetric. Plus it had a giant bow at the waist instead of a belt. All of these changes made the dress so much more staid and it’s a lovely look apart from the green velvet platform shoes. Garner could have chosen worse shoes and she often does, but the green and red are a little too Christmasy for my tastes. Still this is a gorgeous showing from her.
Garner did an interview with News.com.au that a tipster sent us. It’s hard to tell the context as there are no questions listed in the text and I wonder if some of these quotes are embellished. It just seems too candid for her. (People magazine has picked it up as well.) She allegedly goes into depth about the issue of sexual assault and harassment in Hollywood. Part of what she says is point on, but then I found myself shaking my head “no” at some of it. Read what she told them and see if you have a similar response.
?I would not have chosen this life for myself or for my kids. I would not choose to be single or be in this position. It?s something that we are working through. I haven?t been on a date and I am not interested in dating,? she tells news.com.au, shaking her head. ?People want to set me up and I am just like, ?No thank you!??
The estranged couple are co-parenting their three children: Violet, 11, Seraphina, 8, and Sam, 5. With two daughters to raise, she must consider the conversations she will have about men.
?We can?t lump all men into [the same category]. We can?t just assume that every man has done something awful or that every man is guilty; due process is important and has to take place.?
On the subject of whether we are at a sexual abuse and harassment tipping-point, Garner says earnestly, ?Things have to come out in the open in order to be dealt with, and this is definitely one of those times. It?s messy, it?s not pretty, but a wound when it?s healing is a horrible thing to look at and to be around,? she says. ?That is where we are. There are a lot of really smart people asking tough questions, and I feel excited to see what the outcome will be.
She leans forward, asking, ?Did you read about the agricultural women workers? They said, ?We stand in solidarity with our sisters in Hollywood.? That really touched me because it felt, ?Okay, it?s not just a bunch of solipsistic navel-gazing actresses.? It?s really important conversation to be had.
?We need to be talking about how to educate and protect our young women and how women can do a better job of standing together. Women need to be there for each other so that we?re a more of a force. When you are siphoned off or siphoned off by yourself, you?re not that scary. Except for me.? She smiles. ?I am pretty scary…”
I tell her that Affleck continues to gush about her maternal skills, describing her as the best mother in the world. She says simply, ?That?s nice.?? But on the subject of being a ?super mum,? she adds, ?I don?t know about that. You?d have to ask my kids. If you had the Affleck kids here, they would say, ?Well, first of all, she was with you today instead of picking us up from school!?? She laughs. ?Kids are tough on you.?
Despite how she feels about her estranged husband, her family comes first. ?We will all be together for Thanksgiving. I love Ben, I wouldn?t want him to?.? she trails off.
?We will be together with our kids and give them a special Christmas. We get along really well and it?s not an issue. We are friends; we can manage it.?

Notice when the topic of her family and kids comes up (presumably) that she goes into the “not all men” spiel and talks about men needing due process. There’s video of her estranged husband, Ben Affleck, behaving wildly inappropriately with two different talk show hosts, the evidence of which he now refuses to acknowledge. (He did apologize for one incident but has since mischaracterized it as grabbing a woman’s breast while hugging her. I’m just saying.) Also, I read that letter of solidarity with Hollywood victims that the women farmworkers wrote too and I found it touching. It would never occur to me to denigrate the actresses while describing how women of less privilege are supporting them. Garner says that the farmworkers are “not just a bunch of solipsistic navel-gazing actresses.” These actresses are not only her peers, they’re telling harrowing accounts of assault, harassment and rape. This is not the time to call them out for being egotistic. She knows how to couch all the rest in the right language and sentiment so it sounds like she’s saying the right thing. She’s somewhat like her ex in that way. They made a great team and still do. Again, if this is a legitimate interview, she’s still pulling for him and his image.
Garner also discussed her holiday plans in an interview with Extra and how she walks her chickens. Of course she walks her chickens on harnesses and loves to cook and bake. She’s just like us, right?

The Baby2Baby Gala, presented by Paul Mitchell this year, had an incredible turnout with plenty of celebrity women in beautiful gowns and some in suits. I was impressed with the fashion overall. Baby2Baby is a Los Angeles-based charity that distributes basic necessities to impoverished children and families including diapers, clothing, furniture and school supplies. They have a lot of celebrity support. Last night Gwyneth Paltrow was given “The Giving Tree Award” “for her commitment to low-income children.” I wasn’t familiar with her charity work but apparently she’s done work for non-profit LA Kitchen and she is the “charity ambassador” for a luxury watch brand named Frederique Constant. She’s also on the board of the Robin Hood Foundation, which focuses on poverty in NY City.
I wanted to start with Jennifer Garner as I was so impressed with this white Roland Mouret gown she wore. At first I thought that was a built-in cape but it’s really just two split sleeves. It’s gorgeous and this is a great look for her. She is so strikingly different on the red carpet versus her everyday style.
Here’s Gwyneth in a Tom Ford black tuxedo suit. I love this suit but her smudged blue makeup is awful and I would assume she did it herself. In case you think I’m shading her unnecessarily, she’s admitted she is useless at doing her own makeup. She apparently hasn’t improved in the six years since she said that.
Zoe Saldana was in a bizarre black dress with a wide collar, 3/4 length sleeves and a split skirt with a few buttons thrown in for good measure. This is by The Row, which I guess you can tell by how shapeless it is. Zoe and her husband, Marco Perego, seem solid and I like them together.
A very pregnant Jessica Alba was in a black and lace Brock Collection gown. She and her husband are also so cute! I think he was messing around on her years ago, but hopefully he’s changed.
Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, still going strong after 11 years together. I don’t have an ID on Nicole’s leopard print dress but I assume it’s House of Harlow. It may be this dress, the X-Revolve Lafayette, which retails for $298.
In “what the hell were you thinking?” we have Jessica Biel in a Giambattista Valli with see through honeycomb netting over granny panties and a bra. Just no. Maybe this would fly at an MTV event or the Grammys but not at a charity gala.
Also fug we have Kristen Bell in a regent st. blue (I cheated, I’ve never even heard of that color) Vika Gazinskaya dress with giant structured ruffle sleeves. I would say she looks like a sexy alien from the original Star Trek but she’s too covered up for that.
Poor January Jones was in a flutter sleeve v-neck top that tied at the bust paired with a floor length polka dot skirt. Look at the skirt closely. It’s see-through but only at the top until halfway down her thighs. Awful, but she looks like she doesn’t care, which is halfway toward pulling this off.

Amid all these stories of Hollywood power players being horribly abusive and predatory to women, I honestly expected to hear more about Ben Affleck. We have two videos of him behaving inappropriately with women and two women have gone on the record to say he either groped them or their friends. Of course he?s done that to more women, it seems statistically unlikely that those few incidents we?re hearing are the whole of his horrible behavior. Those type of men do it again and again and many victims don?t speak. However either those were isolated incidents in Affleck?s life or someone has been working on his behalf to ensure that more stories don?t come out. Maybe it?s a little of both, like he?s a garden level a-hole groper AND he has people who are working to quash those stories. I don?t want to make excuses for him, I?m just trying to figure out what happened.
You know who we never hear about a bad word about? You know who has rehabbed Ben?s image more than anyone? His estranged wife, Jennifer Garner. Garner is a dedicated mom, she?s an advocate for impoverished children and for childhood literacy, and she?s made Ben look better by her sheer ability to put up with so much bullsh-t from him over the years. She has some masterful PR I?ll give her that, but she also genuinely cares and it shows. People has a new interview with Garner about her work with Save The Children. Even though Affleck has a new girlfriend who seems similar to him, Garner?s goodness is somehow rubbing off him still. She just went trick or treating with him and their kids, remember? She?s still tolerating him and making him look like a better person, probably for the sake of their kids. Here?s what she told People about visiting Hurricane Harvey victims:
As an artist ambassador and trustee for Save the Children, the actress, 45, traveled to Houston in the wake of Hurricane Harvey in September and found an amazing resilience in the kids she met.
?One boy told me how his mom had put the kids in a kiddie pool in chest-high waters, and she had gone under because she couldn?t swim,? Garner tells PEOPLE in this week?s issue. ?He?d said, ?Throw Mama a rope!? and saved her. Instead of saying, ?We lost our house, all my toys are gone,? he wanted me to know that his mom was okay. That spirit makes you really appreciate the good in the world.?
Garner was especially grateful to see Save the Children?s program, Journey of Hope, at work in the flood zone. Kids are taught how to address any trauma they might have experienced ?maybe by losing their home or even a pet in the flood,? says the actress, who has worked with Save the Children?which provides relief and support for kids in rural America and developing countries?for nine years.
?It may sound like a small thing, but I?ve watched it in action. Seeing those kids talk about their feelings in a way that they never would have was the highlight of the year for me.?
For anyone wanting to help, Garner encourages just getting involved.
?Sponsor a child through Save, do a book drive, donate diapers,? says the mom of three, who was honored in PEOPLE?s 25 Women Changing the World feature last year. ?Just help in some way. Be your own kind of first responder. It will restore you and your faith in humanity.?

A lot of people took this tactic after the recent tragedies around the world, particularly in Puerto Rico. People realized that the government, led by a heartless racist monster, wasn?t going to help the people suffering and dying without basic necessities and so they went to Puerto Rico and did whatever they could. Celebrities like Garner especially have money and clout, just look at the benefit concert held by Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony that raised millions. They shouldn?t have to do this with our country?s vast resources. People should be our government?s priority, but obviously the current government is work hard to deny rights to and harm Americans who aren?t just like them. It?s active neglect, it?s stripping away safety nets that are barely working as it is, and it?s horrible. Now I?m realizing I should do some volunteer work with my time. Also PLEASE VOTE on Tuesday. Whatever you do, get out and vote and make it a priority.

Jennifer Garner has posted a video to Instagram featuring clips from her daily workout session with celebrity trainer Simone De La Rue and another unknown trainer whom she refers to as ?stunt team.? It looks like she?s doing kickboxing-type exercises with that guy. Her workouts total two and a half hours, which sounds excessive but she’s training for a film. She also had some kind of cryotherapy or very cold body treatment, she claims she does it for three minutes. That looks like torture to me. She set the clips to a snippet of Jamiroquai?s ?Canned Heat? from 1999. She started the post with ?Recipe for Turning A Mom Back into Action Lady? with caps like that as if it was a title. Here?s her post. Who did she hire to edit this video?

I’ve never heard of Yes Day until now but it’s a concept based on a 2009 best selling children’s book by of the same name by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. Yes Day, a day in which you don’t say no to your kids, sounds quite unnecessary to me. The explanation is that ?no matter how silly the request, there is one day a year when kids always receive a positive response.? Apparently you set limits though, you can deny a request in a positive way, and it’s about being present for them while doing things they like. There?s a national Yes Day, that’s designated way too close to Christmas on December 19th, but of course you can do it whenever is convenient for your family. Jennifer Garner decided to do it for her kids last week, I think for the fifth time as she indicated in hashtags, and she shared this makeup free selfie from the tent where she slept with her kids.

I’m actually surprised that it took Jennifer Garner so long to get in on the celebrity lifestyle business. Her buddy Jessica Biel’s family restaurant venture isn’t going too well though so maybe she wanted to bide her time and find the perfect side project. Garner announced on Instagram earlier this week that she’s co-founded an organic baby food subscription service called Once Upon a Farm. (Am I an a-hole for rolling my eyes at that company name?) It seems like “co-founded” is being used loosely as Once Upon a Farm has existed since 2015 and Garner joined this year, but maybe it accurately describes her role. Here’s Garner’s announcement on Instagram.

Jennifer Garner testified on Capitol Hill on Thursday to advocate for early childhood education, a cause with which she’s been involved for years. She’s a trustee for Save The Children and spoke about seeing childhood poverty and neglect firsthand in her work with the organization. She said, in part, that “Poverty dulls the senses, it saps hope, it destroys the will.” She was calling for an increase in funding for education, which we know isn’t going to happen under the criminals currently in power. That’s all I’ll say about that right now because if I start to include details I will get stabby. Fingers crossed that we don’t have to deal with this madness for much longer.
Garner’s estranged husband, Ben Affleck, of course announced last week that he completed rehab, although there were no details about how long it was. In Affleck’s statement he called Garner his “coparent,” credited her with caring for their children while he sought help, and said that he was getting sober in order to be a better parent. People published a story recently with some insider quotes claiming that Garner is very happy. There’s very little to these quotes but I guess we can read between the lines that it’s easier dealing with Affleck when he’s not drinking. People is commenting on new photos of Garner on set in Atlanta, which you can see on their site:
Garner, 44, was spotted on set of Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda ? where a source told PEOPLE the actress was in great spirits.
?I have never seen her look so happy before,? the insider said.

The rest of the story is about the movie, which tells the story of a 16 year-old boy who is blackmailed by a classmate for being gay. There are also the older quotes from Affleck about completing rehab. So is People just looking at those photos and saying “she looks happy” or did her PR person tell them to say it? Because it feels like we’re supposed to speculate and assume this isn’t a plant, but come on it is. I’m glad she’s happy though. Affleck looks really happy too! He’s actually smiling in paparazzi photos, even in the rain. Hecate lives in LA and she told me it was pouring yesterday, but here’s Affleck out with his daughters looking super pleased to be caught out in the rain. Someone was holding an umbrella for him and I wonder if that was a photographer. Whatever is going on with him, his sheepish grin makes it seem like he’s just as happy as Garner. It’s Spring! Bring on the flowers and the impeachment hearings, not necessarily in that order.

Jennifer Garner was the host at the Save The Children Illumination Gala Tuesday night, an organization she’s worked with for years, with a focus on children in her home state of West Virginia. She wore a simple but elegant strapless gown with what looks like a navy blue velvet bodice (although maybe its black and I’m being thrown off by the lighting) and a black taffeta skirt. Her diamond jewelry is to die for.
In red carpet interviews ahead of the event, Garner talked about raising her children to be responsible adults and to give back. She said that she and Ben try to lead by example and that while kids can be selfish she hope that she’s instilling values in them. Some of her comments were similar to interviews she’s given in the past and it’s clear that these are issues which are important to her.
“I’ve worked with Save [the Children] for the last eight years, and my whole heart is here. So obviously having all these people show up, it’s the only time in my life where I see people with cameras and think, ‘Thank you. I’m so glad you came. Thanks for coming.’”

Garner reminds me a lot of Kristen Bell in that Kristen says similar things about teaching her kids that they’re part of a larger world and they need to give back. It’s a nice sentiment to hear from a celebrity particularly. Unlike Bell, Garner’s message on photographers and paparazzi seems to be a mixed one. She’s spoken out and campaigned against the paparazzi, like Bell, but she does seem happy to use the paparazzi when it suits her. So I’m not really buying her line about only being happy to see photographers at charity events. Still, props to her for her charity work and for being a hands-on mom and a caring person.

Jennifer Garner campaigned for Hillary Clinton yesterday afternoon with a rally at the University of Nevada. She helped students register to vote, you can see a short video of her interacting with students above, and she was very friendly and enthusiastic. It was fun to see. You can watch a longer video of her appearance including her speech below. Garner shows up at about 2:00 minutes in and everyone cheers and starts freaking out. The person who posted the video notes that about 100 people turned out to see her, although it looks like more in the video. After this Garner went to the local Democratic office.
Here are highlights from the speech Garner gave, which you can see around 4:00 in the video below. She emphasizes that the deadline for registering to vote in Nevada is tomorrow (which is today!) and that students should ask their friends to register as well. She’s very comfortable speaking to the crowd and is a knowledgeable advocate for Hillary.
Have you all been bugged incessantly by people begging you to come out and get the vote and make sure you’re registered and ready to go? Well count me in because I’m going to say the same thing, except this time I’m going to say the deadline is now. You’re almost done, we’re going to get to the end of this election, sorry you’re going to school in a swing state but that’s how it is. The deadline is tomorrow to register on paper. We have people here with clipboards. I am registering people so you can get in line with me. My [request] is not only you commit to registering and voting yourselves but you commit to finding two friends [to register] and make sure you get it done. We do have a say, it does matter, that’s why we’re all here bugging you.
Let’s remember what we are looking for here. We are looking for kids whose parents make less than $125,000 a year being able to go to this great institution here for free. We are for someone who is going to raise minimum wage, who is going to help you afford to raise your babies so that you can go to work, who’s going to help make sure that your kids have universal pre-K which is something you may not care about now but trust me it’s important, and that is Hillary Rodham Clinton and I’m excited and proud to be here standing up for her… I’ll take selfies up the wazoo with anyone who stands in my line [to register].

I’m a registered Democrat and signed up to volunteer so I’ve been called quite a few times by my local office. Last night I agreed to go in to make calls the day before the election, when people are probably going to be so sick of getting calls, but we have to do it! We have to make sure everyone has a ride to the polls and that everyone gets a chance to vote. Yes Hillary will probably win in a landslide, but it’s going to be because we all did our part and didn’t get complacent. It’s important this year. Good for Garner for doing her part! This really made me warm to her.

Garner also emphasized that you can vote early, which I’m really considering because I’m just so nervous about this election. I want to get it over with and will feel a sense of closure once I’ve voted.
