Yesterday, Jennifer Garner went to Washington, D.C. to testify before the Senate Health, Education and Labor committee on behalf of Save the Children’s work in West Virginia, Garner’s home state. Her testimony was all about early childhood development, poverty and finding a way to help out struggling families. Here?s part of her testimony:
Of all the roles actress Jennifer Garner has stepped in to, at the end of the day, her favorite is the one she plays in real life: mom. And as a parent, she says she?s outraged by the inequity that exists in educational opportunities for kids less fortunate than her own two daughters.
On Thursday, Garner made her second appearance in six months on the Hill to relay her concern, as an artistic ambassador for Save the Children.
“For me, reading to my daughters, singing with them, playing with them is as elemental to my child-rearing as feeding them,” Garner said in her testimony before the Senate’s Subcommittee on Children and Families. “But if you?re one of the millions of American parents struggling with the recession and poverty crisis, you’re thinking about just keeping them fed and clothed.”
Garner, whose mother is a retired English teacher, works with the nonprofit to provide disadvantaged families with basic learning tools like books and games to encourage early childhood development. Save the Children also implements programs at elementary schools.
“Ninety percent of our brain growth occurs between birth to 5 years of age, so every word a toddler hears, the music that makes them sing and dance, the games they play, build the foundations for their education,” she said.
On Friday, Garner will travel to her home state of West Virginia to open six Save the Children sites. The actress began serving as the artistic ambassador for the nonprofit’s U.S. programs in 2009 and has since made four D.C. appearances on its behalf.

Great, wonderful cause, and I applaud Jennifer for her work. For more information about Save the Children, go here.
Now, I have a sidenote, and it’s something that CB and I just spent the last half hour arguing about. I think Jennifer is underdressed and understyled for this Congressional appearance, and I think it’s very unprofessional, especially for a Southern girl who should know (it’s in our DNA!) how to dress appropriately for every occasion. Now, whenever we show Dimple Parade photos of Jennifer Garner out and about with her kids, many commenters note that Garner tends to really look like a harassed working mom, often wearing just jeans and ill-fitting clothes, and little to no makeup, and unkempt hair. Some people always defend her, saying it?s impossible to look movie-star camera-ready at all times, and she?s just out with her kids, why would she need to dress up, etc. I think it?s fine to wander around, doing errands with no makeup, in sweats. That?s how I pretty much live, and I don?t judge Garner for it. HOWEVER - I think that when she goes to Washington, D.C. to testify before the Senate Health, Education and Labor committee, she should try to jazz it up a little, you know? Be and look professional. It looks to me like she just took her hair out of a ponytail, slapped on some lip gloss and wandered into a Congressional building in a tank top. I also think styling herself professionally would help her cause - more people would take her seriously if she were, say, wearing a suit. Just my opinion.

Enjoying some time in our nation?s capitol, Jennifer Garner was spotted at a hearing before the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions committee today (November 18).
The ?Catch and Release? actress was joined by Marian Wright Edelman at the Senate Dirksen Building in Washington DC, and looked passionate as she addressed the room.
Coming up tomorrow, Jen will travel to Charlestown, West Virginia to make an appearance on behalf of the Save the Children organization.
Of her mission, Garner explained, ?There is such a need here, and there is so much unmet potential right here in West Virginia. The cycle of poverty in this state is going on for generations and generations and generations, and we hope we can provide a new energy to help the kids reach their true potential and avoid that.?

| Jennifer Garner steps out with mid-tantrum Violet | Added 14 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

These are some new photos of Jennifer Garner and the Dimple Parade. Only this time, the dimples aren?t being flashed in photo-op joy, they are having a tantrum. ?Tantrum? in the word Fame Pictures uses, and their take on the situation? well, it kind of offends me. They seem to be connecting Violet?s seemingly minor street tantrum (which all kids will have at some point) to the speculation about Jennifer and Ben Affleck?s marriage problems:
Oscar winning actress Jennifer Garner picking up daughter Violet in Santa Monica, CA on October 29th, 2010. Dad Ben Affleck is on the set of his newest film “Oklahoma” but it looks like Jen could use his help with Violet as she’s not happy about where mom’s decided to take her making ugly faces and stomping her feet on the ground. Of course, maybe Jen will have to learn to deal with these things on her own as many sources say that her marriage to dad is on the rocks…
[From Fame Pictures]
Offensive, right? Granted, I think Jen and Ben?s marriage is in trouble (despite their bullsh-t denials), and I think Jen does too many of these ?single mother? photo-ops, but at the end of the day, she?s a good mom and her kids seems shockingly normal and well-adjusted for having famous parents, and being photographed all the time. It seems unfair to take photos of Violet having a rare hissy fit and basically saying that it?s all about marriage drama.
In addition to these sidewalk tantrum photos, Jennifer, Violet and Seraphina were also photographed extensively while Violet played soccer (where Jennifer flashed her butt crack), and when Violet went to a birthday party. Here are more photos:

| Jennifer Garner & Ben Affleck are 'stronger than ever' say Us Weekly's sources | Added 14 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Just in time for the Blake Lively-Penn Badgley breakup confirmation, Us Weekly has a shocking report about Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner. According to Team Affleck-Garner, everything is going fine and the marriage is not in trouble at all. This flies in the face of multiple reports about their relationship troubles, Ben?s alleged infidelities, his return to gambling and drinking, et cetera.
The Afflecks certainly don?t let work interfere with family time. With Ben Affleck, 38, in Oklahoma shooting a new and untitled film, Jennifer Garner, 38, and their girls make frequent visits. On the agenda? Group outings to local shops and restaurants. But the pair also relish their alone time.
?They?re very much in love,? an Affleck pal tells Us. Indeed, during a September 3 dinner date at Wilshire in Santa Monica, ?They were looking into each other?s eyes, holding hands over the table,? says a fellow diner.
Adds the friend, ?Things are great with them. Do they fight? Sometimes, but what couple with two jobs and two kids don?t? They?re in a really good place.?
[From Us Weekly, print edition]
I?ll buy that Jennifer Garner and the girls have ?visited? the Oklahoma set, but honestly, there are photos of Jennifer Garner with the girls in LA almost every day. I look at the photo agencies every day - I know. Jennifer and the girls have been in LA for weeks, and Jennifer keeps trotting out the Dimple Parade every day. So maybe Jennifer and the girls have only visited him once? For, like, a day? In between photo ops?
But that?s not the point. The point is that this is the official line from the Affleck marriage - everything is going fine, and there will be no split announcements anytime soon. Interesting?

This is kind of a non-story, but people seem to enjoy Jennifer Garner and the dimple parade, so here you go. Jennifer and her daughters were pap?d non-stop this weekend (nothing new there), but instead of looking like ?the saddest soccer mom in LA? Jennifer looked really happy to be out with the kiddies, and Violet especially looks like she loved her time at the park. Meanwhile, Ben only comes out for the paparazzi extravaganza when he has something to promote. I guess The Town?s promotional tour is over then. By the way, I really, really, really hope that everyone who claims those Brangelina kissing photos were posed say the same thing about these. Just sayin?. Brad and Angelina aren?t the only ones sending messages to their public through candid paparazzi pics. And to underline the point, Jennifer gave a mom-centric interview to People Magazine about her kids and Halloween:
Trick or treat? Jennifer Garner has some more pressing questions to answer first ? like getting her younger daughter Seraphina, 21 months, to pick a Halloween costume.
“It seems like every time we ask her, it’s a different farm animal,” Garner told PEOPLE recently. “My oldest daughter [Violet, 4] has a very clear idea, but it’s contingent upon my younger daughter.”
She adds: “Costumes are not ready in my house. Now, I’m realizing I need to at least get the orders in.”
Garner, who earlier this month launched a campaign with Frigidaire to support Save the Children’s work for kids in need, is also already prepared to counter any potential sugar rush.
“I’ll make up some rules,” she says.
Juggling family life, work and philanthropy, Garner says she’s doing her best to strike a balance. “No matter what, it is very tricky and difficult ? just to be a good parent at all,” says Garner, who had been filming Arthur with Russell Brand and Helen Mirren. “I have a lot of help. And for that I’m very grateful.?
As for looking put-together, she recognizes one great perk. “I wish every mom could have a hair and makeup team once a week to show up and fix them up,” she says.
[From People]
When I was really little, I was the same size for a few years, and I wore my Tweety Bird costume for three Halloweens in a row. Then when I went through puberty overnight, I changed into an Elvira costume (I had massive boobs at 13, what are you going to do?). I appreciate it when moms really work to make an unusual Halloween costume, but most of the time, I think the majority of kids would just be happy with something from a store, like Batman or a fairy princess. But I would love to see Seraphina as a bumblebee. She just looks like a bumblebee type to me.

Never one to skimp when it comes to spending time with her children, Jennifer Garner has been busily tending to her motherly duties as of late.
On Saturday morning (October 16), the "Juno" actress looked fresh out of the shower as she played with her youngest daughter Seraphina in Crestwood Park.
The previous day, Miss Garner and Seraphina enjoyed a trip to a local bakery as they bided time before picking up Violet Affleck from school in Santa Monica.
Meanwhile, Jen is in the midst of preparing for the Halloween holiday, as she told People magazine of Seraphina's costume selection process, "It seems like every time we ask her, it's a different farm animal. My oldest daughter [Violet, 4] has a very clear idea, but it's contingent upon my younger daughter."
The 38-year-old adds, "Costumes are not ready in my house. Now, I'm realizing I need to at least get the orders in."
Also chatting about balancing work with her parental efforts, Garner said, "No matter what, it is very tricky and difficult ? just to be a good parent at all. I have a lot of help. And for that I'm very grateful."

| Jennifer Garner on why she rarely dresses up: 'I can't be a mom in those clothes' | Added 14 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I?m pretty much over hearing about how Jennifer Garner is probably pregnant again. So let?s not make a big deal about how she has a very hint of a ?bump? in these photos. The woman has had two kids, and she seems to eat like a normal person. Her stomach is less than perfectly flat, and that?s fine. These are new photos of Jennifer either dropping off or picking up Violet from her ballet class. I really think Violet is trying to show her mom and the paparazzi her ballet styles and form in these photos. She?s such a cutie.
I was looking to see if there were any interesting Garner stories to put with these photos, and I found this little interview Jennifer did at some point - they claim she gave this interview ?recently? but who knows? Jennifer is trying to explain why she?s always photographed with no makeup, in very casual clothes:
If you are a busy mom, your outfits are more than likely chosen for their lack of wrinkles and comfort as opposed to actual style — who can chase a toddler wearing heels?
Which is why I always feel bad when these gossip rags take photos of celebrity moms looking like, heaven forbid, a busy mom, with big X’s across their outfit and “Fashion Don’t” slapped as the headline. Harsh much?
And actress Jennifer Garner knows exactly how that feels. She reveals to The Stir in a recent interview about being dressed as a busy mom, and her beauty secret for staying sane.
“You see pictures and you see this harried woman in jeans and sneakers, running around and just lucky if I get a shower, but it’s pretty much the same as every other mom out there. You know, I can’t dress up every day, it’s just not in my nature. Even if I own the clothes, which by the way I do, I look at them and think ‘I can’t be a mom in those clothes,’ they just don’t suit me.”
So what’s her secret to combat falling into the frazzled-looking mom trap? “I do think that it’s important for yourself every now and then (and sorry I can’t send you my hair and makeup team because you would be thrilled with the results!) to put on some makeup, blow out your hair, and get dressed up just for the heck of it and walk around as a reminder that you’re as beautiful to yourself as you are to your kids.”
[From The Stir]
I mostly understand what Jennifer is saying, and I?m not even a mom. I cosign the idea that it?s just not realistic to get all dolled up when you know your kids are going to smear peanut butter and Vaseline on you throughout the day. I work from home - I sit at my desk every weekday - I have a uniform that I wear nearly every day - and it involves sweatpants and no makeup. I go out like this all the time too. So I get it, Jennifer. Here?s the one complaint I have about this though - I think that yes, she?s focused on her kids, but I also think this is part of the image she?s putting out there, that of the ?harried, down-to-earth super-mom.? It?s not just a manufactured image (as I really do think she?s a good mom), but there is a conscious effort to put herself out there in this particular way, in my opinion. After all, if she really was going all-natural, wouldn’t she stop with the lip injections?
Also: that bag wishes it was a Birkin. If you?re a celebrity and you?re going to go for a Birkin knock-off, just get a damn Birkin!

Stepping out for morning press duties, Jennifer Garner was all smiles despite the rainy weather as she left her New York City hotel on Tuesday (October 5).
The former "Alias" actress was heading across town to make an appearance alongside Liza Minnelli on "The View".
On the career front, Miss Garner recently shot the Jim Field Smith directed comedy titled "Butter".
Co-starring Hugh Jackman, Ashley Greene and Olivia Wilde, the movie "is set in the Midwest U.S., where an adopted girl discovers her talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against an ambitious local woman in their town's annual contest."
