Taking care of some promotional duties, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Dancy were spotted at a press conference for their new movie ?Hysteria? in Toronto, Canada today (September 15).
Joined by Tanya Wexler and Jonathan Pryce, Maggie and Hugh fielded questions at the TIFF Bell Lightbox as part of the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival.
Later on this evening, ?Hysteria? makes its TIFF debut at 9:30 at the Roy Thomson Hall, and there?s sure to be plenty of fanfare.
According to an official release, ?Hysteria tells the true story of how, aided by a goofy pal with a fascination for gadgets and electricity (Rupert Everett), young Granville came to invent the first vibrator. Key to this was his association with Dalrymple?s very different daughters: the well-spoken Emily (Felicity Jones) and the outspoken Charlotte (Maggie Gyllenhaal). The result inadvertently contributed to women?s sexual independence and the coming women?s movement.?

Emma Thompson and Maggie Gyllenhaal were the cover girls for the August issue of Good Housekeeping. I saw the issue but I always forgot to check out the interview for some reason. I should have known better - Emma is always a great interview, and she always has sh-t to say. Emma and Maggie are doing promotion for the Nanny McPhee movie, in which Emma revives the character she adapted for the screen. By the way, did you know that both Ralph Fiennes and Ewan Mcgregor are in the second film? True story. Anyway, through the course of the Good Housekeeping interview, Emma basically blasts the concept of ?having it all? - a great family, motherhood, a great career, etc. But Emma is not Gisele. She?s not looking down her nose at us. Instead, she?s saying she?s one of us, and that she has lots of problems too:
She has long juggled her work as an actress with raising a family. But Emma Thompson believes that no woman can have the perfect career and be a faultless mother - at the same time.
The 51-year-old Oscar winner, who has a ten-year-old daughter, said trying to ‘have it all’ rarely works well for anyone in a family. She argued that the only way to manage motherhood and a full-time job was by enlisting hired help, something she insists she won’t do.
Her intervention comes at a time when the idea of ‘having it all’ is under attack from working mothers who find themselves run into the ground as they chase an impossible dream. Even its most ardent cheerleaders such as novelist Fay Weldon are thinking again as they see the effects on family life.
A recent survey by Grazia magazine revealed that one in ten women who has had children wants to give up work completely. The debate was further fuelled by Samantha Cameron, who is expecting a child in September and quit her full time job as creative director of Smythson, where she has worked for 14 years, within days of her husband becoming Prime Minister.
Miss Thompson made the comments in the US edition of Good Housekeeping magazine with actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, with whom she stars in the forthcoming sequel to Nanny Mcphee.
The British actress is married to actor Greg Wise, 44, and in addition to ten-year-old Gaia they adopted a 16-year-old Rwandan refugee named Tindyebwa Agaba, who is now 23.
Speaking to Good Housekeeping, Miss Thompson said: ‘I don’t want your readers ever to think they have to have it all. I think that’s a revolting concept. It’s so false! Sometimes you’ll have some things, and sometimes you’ll have other things. And you do not need it all at once; it’s not good for you. You can’t be a great mum and work the whole time necessarily; those two things aren’t ideal.?
‘We have an awful lot to work on and to debate about in relation to our working lives, because it isn’t working for a lot of people, particularly for a lot of women. The only way you can have it all is by delegating all the running of the home to other people - which I don’t ever want to do… So you do it yourself, and it takes time and energy and effort. And if you give it the time, it’s profoundly enjoyable.’
Miss Thompson added that when she had Gaia at 41 she was still not a ‘grown up’ but the experience has forced her to mature very quickly.
She does not have a regular nanny and she and Wise take turns to work so one is always home with their daughter.
She added: ‘We’re all supposed to be happy all the time. What is that about? Why have we lost contact with the possibility of saying, “Do you know what? I can’t do that. Sorry, I can’t manage that as well.”‘
In the interview Miss Gyllenhaal, who is married to actor Peter Sarsgaard -with whom she has a three-year-old daughter, Romana, told how Miss Thompson had inspired her to put her husband first more in her life.
The 32-year-old said: ‘Emma, you kind of gave me the idea that a part of my life, a part of my mind, has to be devoted to my husband. My mother’s generation has been bucking against that. But I’ve just been finding so much pleasure in sacrificing sometimes for my husband - going to where he’s working and tidying up his trailer because he couldn’t manage to do it, and bringing him things that will make him feel better, and being a wife in a more classical way. It feels really right to me.’

As much as I think to myself, ?Yeah, if I had Greg Wise at home waiting for me, I would never leave? I totally respect the realistic vision of family life Emma is presenting. I like when moms are honest. I like when anyone is honest, whether it?s Cameron Diaz not playing the ?I can?t wait to be have babies!? game and simply acknowledging that she doesn?t feel the need to be a mother, or when it?s Emma saying that the idea of ?having it all? is a trap. A trap we design for ourselves, for the most part.

Stepping out for a lovely evening, Maggie Gyllenhaal attended the premiere of ?Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang? in London, England on Wednesday (March 24).
The ?Crazy Heart? actress looked pretty in a black and white ensemble paired with black heels as she gracefully posed for pictures ahead of the screening.
In other news, Ms Gyllenhaal ? who is married to actor Peter Sarsgaard ? recently admitted to being ?kind of wild? as a child who never had rules.
A mother herself now, Maggie shares that she is baffled by daughter Ramona?s obedient behavior and willingness to abide by the rules.

Over the weekend, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard married in a small chapel in Brindisi, Italy, People.com reports.
"We are happy to confirm that Maggie and Peter were married on Saturday, May 2," her rep said in a statement. Among the guests were the actress' younger brother, Jake Gyllenhaal, and his girlfriend, Reese Witherspoon. The site reports that in March Maggie had a bridal shower, also attended by Witherspoon.
The couple announced their engagement and pregnancy in 2006 after dating for more than four years. They have a 2-year-old daughter, Ramona, and live in Brooklyn, New York. They co-starred in 2003's "In God's Hands," and Sarsgaard has also shared the screen with his new brother-in-law in "Jarhead" and "Rendition."
Maggie told Marie Claire last summer that she was still adjusting to her role as a mom. "I've spent all my time learning how to be a mother and make a home with a child," she said, adding that when Ramona was first born, "I didn't know what I was doing. It's so hard and requires so much work and careful thought. You just get stronger and stronger."
The "Dark Knight" star also addressed being a famous family, saying, "We're so protective of our privacy and our family. The level of invasion is out of control," she added, noting that her brother has gotten more used to it than she has.
Gyllenhaal told the magazine that she and Sarsgaard were already considering expanding their family even further: "People say two [kids] is so hard, but I think we probably will."

Moderately exciting news. Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard were officially married on Saturday in Italy. In attendance were brother Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon. Also in attendance was their two and a half year old bastard daughter. PEOPLE write: “The celebration took place in a small chapel in Brindisi, according to European news reports.”
The best part of the wedding, however, was that I wasn’t there because I would have killed myself if I had to watch Hollywood’s dullest couple get married. They look like the type of people that would fill their vows with big words no one understands like convivial and propitious. Is this a wedding or a crossword puzzle?

Droopy-faced Maggie Gyllenhaal married beardy-faced Peter Sarsgaard in Italy over the weekend which means that if she took his last name she is now Maggie Gyllenhaal-Sarsgaard. That also means Maggie has taken all the As. There's no more As to give. If you wanted to name your kid Areola or Asshat, don't be surprised when you're told that it's not available because Maggie took all the As.
Anyway, the lumpy bed bug-ridden mattresses made it legal in Brindisi, Italy on Saturday in a small ceremony. They have been together since 2002 and have a 2-year-old daughter.
Of course, Jakey Poo was there. He loves to squeal at wedding! I'm sure he made the purdiest little flower girl ever. Throwing flowers is really his true calling. Reese also tagged along, because someone had to be there to zip up Jakey's leotard and fluff his tutu before he skipped down the aisle.

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard got married in Italy over the weekend. There were rumors swirling about the impending nuptials last week, but I doubted they would go through with it. The wedding took place in Brindisi, Italy on Saturday, with Maggie?s brother Jake and Jake?s girlfriend Reese Witherspoon in attendance. The couple has been together for nearly seven years, and are thought to have gotten engaged in 2006. That was the year Maggie got pregnant with daughter Ramona, now aged two and half.
Hollywood couple Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard have finally made it official. The two New York based actors tied the knot in a small chapel in Brindisi Italy on Saturday.
Maggie’s younger brother Jake and his lady love Reese Witherspoon were among the guests at the ceremony.
Gyllenhaal and Sarsgaard have been dating since 2002 and have two-and-a-half-month-old daughter Ramona together.
Gyllenhaal has starred in such movies as The Dark Knight, Sherrybaby, Donnie Darko and Secretary. Sarsgaard, like Gyllenhaal, is also a favorite of the indy film sect, having appeared in such movies as Boys Don’t Cry, Shattered Glass, and The Man In The Iron Mask.

I wonder if Maggie will change her name to Maggie Gyllenhaal-Sarsgaard? Lord, that?s a mouth-full. Anyway, they?ve always seemed like a nice couple, and it?s always great to see a seemingly permanently ?engaged? couple finally get down the aisle. I?m actually a bigger fan of Peter Sarsgaard rather than Maggie - I think he?s so lovely and talented, where Maggie is a bit overrated as an actress (my opinion). Their backgrounds are very different too - Maggie comes from a very artistic, intellectual, grounded family where Peter was an Army brat with a very nomadic childhood. Currently, Maggie, Peter and Ramona live in New York. Congratulations to Maggie and Peter!

The aggressively vowelled couple has been together for seven glorious years, during which they have seemed frighteningly normal and down to earth. The Brooklynites are the parents of a daughter, Ramona, and the wedding is reportedly scheduled for Mother’s Day weekend.Maggie has said that she wants a big “fairy tale” wedding, rather than quick I Dos in front of Mayor Bloomberg at City Hall (not that there’s anything wrong with that. We hear the renovations are lovely). “I’ve had so many different incarnations of my fantasy wedding dress,” she has said.

The “Stranger Than Fiction” actress was spotted at the launch of Precious Planet at the Central Park Zoo in New York City. Together with Fisher-Price, Gyllenhaal helped to donate $250,000 to the Wildlife Conservation Society.
