Maggie Gyllenhaal took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Mini-Series for her role in The Honorable Woman. She walked the red carpet with her brother, Jake, and they were each other’s dates. I could swear Jake uttered the words “sugar pie, honey bunch” when humoring Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet, but maybe I imagined it. Did you hear it?
Maggie’s dress is Miu Miu. I’m not wild about the boob darting or the mini peplum, but this is one of the better dresses we’ve seen from Maggie. That’s not saying much, I know. Her posture lets me know she’s not very comfy glamming it up. The dusky rose color looks fantastic with her complexion, but her hair is … still bad. She could have gone a little spikey and had some fun for the event. Maggie did give a great speech last night:
“I?ve noticed a lot of people talking about the wealth of roles for powerful women in television lately. And when I look around the room at these women who are in here and I think about the performances that I’ve watched this year, what I see actually are women are sometimes powerful and sometimes not; sometimes sexy, sometimes not; sometimes honourable and sometimes not. And what I think is new is the wealth of roles for actual women in television and in film. That’s what I think is revolutionary, and evolutionary, and it?s what’s turning me on.”
[From YouTube]
I agree with her when it comes to television. Film roles for women still have a long way to go, but these past few years have brought us much more interesting and complex female characters on tv. Congrats to Maggie!
Taylor Schilling wore a red Ralph Lauren gown that looked like a Valentine’s decoration. This dress looked really cute from the back (but only from the waist up). From the front, the cross halter looked too tight, and her hair was pulled back severely. Maybe I’d have liked the dress more if the halter was drapier. Oh, and super eyebrow powers activate!
Uzo Aduba slayed in a very glam Randi Rahm dress and Brian Atwood shoes. I can’t find anything wrong with anything she wore. This is perfection.
Laura Prepon went a little too dark in this Christian Siriano dress. If her hair was red, the dress may have worked, but her black hair and black dress are blending into an inky mess. Laura wore Simon G. jewelry, and I want her to bring back the red.
Amanda Peet … words fail me. I don’t know what look she was going for, but this was some serious Three’s Company lampshade fug.

Stepping out for some sibling fun, Jake Gyllenhaal and his sister Maggie Gyllenhaall both showed up at the Beverly Hilton Hotel tonight (January 11) for the72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards.
The ?Nightcrawler? hunk added plenty of man candy to the red carpet recipe while his lovely ?Stranger Than Fiction? sis worked her mojo for the shutterbugs.
With so many amazing accomplishments to celebrate in television and film, it?s really anybody?s guess who will go home with the hardware. The Best Motion Picture- Drama nominees are ?The Theory of Everything,? ?Boyhood,? ?Selma,? ?Foxcatcher? and ?The Imitation Game.?

Celebrating her critically-acclaimed project, Maggie Gyllenhaal stepped out for ?The Honorable Woman? screening in New York City on Wednesday night (July 23).
Clad in a hip black and white dress, the 36-year-old actress struck a pose on the red carpet inside the Crosby Street Hotel and mingled with guests including Padmka Lakshmi and her husband Peter Sarsgaard.
As for her hubby, Maggie chatted with the Wall Street Journal and said that Peter is going to write and direct a film for her to star in.
?He's about two-thirds through the script,? Gyllenhaal said. ?We want to make it super super low-budget. It takes place in 1904. We want to shoot maybe 10 days in upstate NY and then three weeks in Northern Canada. And then I'm in the process of buying [the rights to] a book I can't tell you about yet. So much of the time I'm just raising my hand and saying 'I'd like to do that,' or waiting for someone else to write something. It's nice to be able to try to put a budget together.?

Looking quite chic, Maggie Gyllenhaal stepped out in the Soho neighborhood of New York City on Monday afternoon (July 21).
Rocking a peachy tan jumpsuit, the ?Dark Knight? babe flashed a smile towards her awaiting fan base before heading inside the Tribeca Grand Hotel for a special screening of ?Very Good Girls.?
Meanwhile, the brunette beauty is receiving plenty of praise for her role in ?The Honorable Woman? on BBC TV.
Maggie portrays Nessa Stein, an Anglo-Israeli businesswoman who has transformed her father?s weapons company into a powerful staplea in the Middle East.
During an interview with MailOnline last month, Maggie talked about the role and said, ?It?s maybe the fifth time I?ve done an English accent and this is the first time it was truly in my bones.?

| Maggie Gyllenhaal: I thought I could 'change my life' by going blonde | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Maggie Gyllenhaal is promoting The Honourable Woman, a new BBC drama about the Israel-Palestine conflict. The show is a thriller with the US and the UK involved (thus the participation of the MI6 and CIA), and murders and kidnappings happen. Maggie often chooses heavy material in her acting career, and this project is no exception. Maggie’s been living in London to work on the show, and she admits to adopting an English accent even during her off-work hours. Yep, she’s one of those expat Americans. I bet that’s the only thing she has in common with the likes of Madonna and Goop.
Maggie did a new interview with the Independent. She talks about the show and some of its political implications. She also reveals the real reason why she went shockingly blonde at Cannes this year. Maggie’s already a brunette again, but the hair discussion seems surprisingly poignant. It kinda hit home for a shallow person like myself who is obsessed with hair problems. Some excerpts please:
Her career: “There are never many excellent projects Every year there are a few and you just hope you can be lucky enough to be involved in them. I feel like I’ve had maybe two or three projects in my life that have been extraordinary. And then other times you’re just trying to find a way through something that’s slightly less than extraordinary… But that’s OK. That’s how we all live!”
Her new home: “I love London — I really feel like I know this city I know where to go grocery shopping, I know where the playgrounds are, I have friends here. And I really like doing an English accent. I just talk all day long in the accent so I don’t have to have this embarrassing moment — more than once — of switching. It’s almost like having an alter ego, or like becoming fluent in another language.”
Kids change everything: “I find it difficult to stay politically informed with two little kids, and working. I started running, and listening to this [radio] news station, so I’d at least get the headlines and hear half an interview. And that was enough to get me angry about the things I thought were wrong in the world, and excited about where things were right. But I’ve kinda fallen off of running, so I’m having a hard time. Having children has changed my outlook on life in every way I can’t even remember how I looked at things before I had my kids — it’s completely shifted everything. It’s really hard having children.”
Her drastic hair change: “I dyed my hair blonde because I wanted to feel better about myself. I do like it blonde, but it doesn’t make you happy. The truth is: it was a long hard winter and I thought, maybe this will change my life. But it never does. I should know that by now, I’m 36 years old.”
On The Honourable Woman: “On either side of the Israel-Palestine issue there are people with a vice grip on their point of view — and I don’t think that’s serving anybody And if our show for 10 seconds allows that grip to loosen on either side — if something in the hearts of people opens for 10 seconds — I’ll feel like something was accomplished. I don’t think that’s the only point of art, but it can be a very effective purpose in making movies, and all kinds of art: that it can change your mind by affecting your heart.”
[From Independent]
I wonder if Maggie’s “long hard winter” had less to do with adjusting to London weather and more with (possibly) living away from husband Peter Sarsgaard. They used to live in Brooklyn together. He’s been working on his own projects, and Maggie has previously admitted to struggling with the work-family balance. It IS really hard having children, but I suspect Maggie does have help. That doesn’t make it easy to be an ocean away from your spouse, but I’m completely reading into the situation.
The hair obsession hits home for many women. I’ve done drastic hair changes too, and it never works out as planned. My hair is awful right now because of a highlighting mishap two years ago. No color would cover it, and the highlights kept coming through. I finally got tired of the Jared Leto ombre and chopped it off a few weeks ago. Super short. I thought it would make me feel better to have a solid hair color again, but I can’t wait for it to grow. Did Maggie really think going blonde would change her life? Maybe. I’m jealous that she was able to go back to brunette with little effort.

| Maggie Gyllenhaal goes platinum blonde at Cannes: lovely or frumpy? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some photos of Maggie Gyllenhaal in Cannes yesterday at the Honourable Woman photocall. She’s promoting this UK-based television show with co-star Andrew Buchan. I don’t know anything about the show beyond the IMDb synopsis, which points towards an international arms “maelstrom.” Hmm.
Maggie’s looking very different here than when we last saw her at the BAFTAs, a.k.a., “the frumpening.” She’s gone from her usual toffee brown hair color to a platinum blonde. What do you think? Maggie’s also wearing a ruffled ivory dress that she has paired with a pair of awful flat sandals. Seriously, those sandals belong at the beach whereas the dress was made for a museum gala. The dress isn’t bad, but I’d love to see how it would look without sleeves.
Maggie’s hair is winning me over here. She’s grown it out about half an inch, which gives it more body. The blonde makes her look younger and fresher. Maybe it’s the bright light lending that effect, but I think Maggie looks really cute here. She still has no idea how to dress herself, but this hair is a step in the right direction. Touch-ups are going to be a real bitch, right? They’ll be worth it.

| Maggie Gyllenhaal in bedazzled Lanvin at the BAFTAS: worst look of the night? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Maggie Gyllenhaal walked the red carpet last night in her own version of BAFTAS: The Frumpening. Where do I start with this dress? Maggie is wearing Lanvin, which custom-made this gown just for the occasion. They really needn’t have bothered. Maggie would have been better with something simple off the rack. She’s a very pretty woman who possesses the ability to really glow. You’ve seen The Secretary, right? Maggie is an excellent actress, but she sure cannot style herself, and Lanvin seems perfectly happy with indulging her bizarro whims.
Let’s start with the color of this gown, blue-violet, which is lovely and rich. The fabric is lace with grosgrain embroidery and topped with sheer sleeves. All of that would have been plenty enough. Then Lanvin completely bedazzled it with assorted jewels, fake pearls, and embellishments. Maggie’s pixie haircut also somehow contributes to the overload, which seems like a paradox. I can’t say a single nice thing about this look, which makes me sad. Her coat (in the gallery) is even worse than the dress.
Fearne Cotton is usually a right mess on the red carpet. She did not disappoint in this full-on, ultra-embellished Scaasi dress. There is a place in the fashion world for bold metallics, and that place is not on Fearne Cotton. So much gold, and so much hair. Fearne has been on a big hair kick lately. This whole look! Too much.
Joely Richardson wore William Vintage Bob Mackie. I don’t know what’s going on here. The orange dress is fine by itself, but then the gigantic embellished sun ruins everything. Was she going for something similar to this McQueen dress that Elizabeth Banks wore to a Catching Fire premiere? Who knows. This dress is from 1878, and it sure looks like it.
Lea Seydoux wore this awful Miu Miu dress that made her look like a Vegas showgirl on the red carpet. Bedazzled boobs and exposed gams. I would have liked to have seen her in a more classic silhouette without all of the pomp and circumstance.

Getting her little one off to school in timely fashion, Maggie Gyllenhaal walked with daughter Ramona down the New York City streets today (January 30).
The mother-daughter duo bundled up to face the freezing weather, Maggie sporting a cute, fuzzy hat, thick black coat and jeans, walking beside her girl, who wore a long black coat and rubber boots.
None too excited about the bitter cold, the "Dark Knight" starlet posted a status on her Twitter account, writing, "12 degrees in NYC today. Listening to @lcdsoundsystem NEW YORK I LOVE YOU BUT YOU'RE BRINGING ME DOWN..."
