Earlier this year, the tabloids (mostly Star/Radar and the NYDN) kept claiming that Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez were already on the rocks, less than a year after they got hitched in France and just months after they welcomed their son, Maceo. The rumors percolated for a while, but Halle?s people half-heartedly shut them down. Then, a month ago, Halle and Olivier made a big show at the premiere event for her CBS show Extant. Olivier wore a creepy mustache and Halle looked tired, but their body language seemed comfortable enough to put many of the rumors to rest. Well, Round 2 is here. Star says Halle and Olivier have been living separately and Olivier doesn?t even care that he?s gained weight. Damn, bro.
Halle Berry & Olivier Martinez seem to be on the fast track to splitsville. Star can reveal that the couple, both 48, who are parents of son Maceo, 10 months, have been living separately for months.
?They don?t talk to each other much,? dishes a source, ?and when they do, it?s only about their son.?
Friends also say that Olivier?s recent weight gain is a bad sign.
?He?s let himself go a bit,? says the pal. ?She works hard to stay beautiful, but his blatant lack of interest speaks volumes about his feelings for her.?

I?ll buy that they?re living separately, but I?ve always thought their relationship was much more combustible and dramatic than the ?happy couple at peace together? image Halle wanted to push. To be fair, I think Halle only does relationships that are full of drama and nonsense. And she might have found her equal in Olivier. But here?s what I don?t buy: that he?s gained weight?! And that somehow his weight gain (??) is a signal that he and Halle are done??

I’m covering this story because I want to talk about Extant. I am really enjoying that show, and it is a welcome addition to the dearth of summer programming. (Although I’m also watching True Blood and Ray Donovan and need to catch up on Masters of Sex. I wish Showtime would promote Ray Donovan as much as they’re hyping Sex, it’s an excellent show.)
Anyway, Star Magazine claims that the new show’s star, Halle Berry, is hard to read on set. She’s sometimes unapproachable, sometimes friendly to crew, and they’re unsure of how to act around her. Star’s source says “everyone is on edge.”
Halle Berry may have switched over to television, but she still expects more star treatment! Sources on the set of her new series, Extant, in which she plays an astronaut who returns to Earth pregnant after a year alone in pace, say Halle is making everyone miserable. “The crew was warned not to look Halle in the eye or talk to her except through her assistants, but they’re never around,” says a set insider. “And she plays weird mind games, like throwing a fit over water being the wrong temperature, then, 10 minutes later, offering to buy the crew lunch. Everyone is on edge!”

I don’t doubt that Halle is a diva in some respects, but assuming this is all true I want to give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she had a diva moment with the water, realized how ridiculous she was being and then tried to make it right by treating everyone to lunch. It’s also possible that the instructions about not looking her in the eye and not talking to her came from someone higher up and not Halle.
I’m making excuses because Halle is excellent on Extant. She gives a nice nuanced performance where you can see that she’s tortured but that her character, an astronaut, is trained to reign it in. The supporting actors, particularly Goran Visnjic and Camryn Manheim, are very good too.
Spoilers for past episodes of Extant follow
I have some questions about the plot. In the opening episode I assumed that the Yasumoto corp colluded with the ISEA to impregnate Halle’s character, Molly. This week they seemed to suggest that extraterrestrials had done it and that they were merely aware of it. Also, last week it looked like child robot Ethan was going to turn into some kind of Omen humanoid, but now he seems much more “normal” now.
I like that they’re keeping us guessing with a well-crafted mystery. Plus Extant is doing very well in the ratings. If Halle wants her water a certain temperature, give it to her. Her star power is definitely contributing to the high ratings and her acting elevates that show.

Stepping out for some promotional duties, Halle Berry headed over to the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York City for an appearance on ?The Late Show with David Letterman.?
The ?Monster?s Ball? actress was stunning in a figure-hugging purple dress as she waved to her fans and posed for pictures ahead of her interview.
Halle was in the house to plug her brand new television series ?Extant,? slated to debut on the CBS network on Wednesday (July 9) at 9pm.
Meanwhile, last month Berry was ordered to begin paying $16,000 per month to her baby daddy Gabriel Aubry as a means of child support for their daughter Nahla.

I keep seeing promos for Halle Berry’s new CBS show, Extant, which premieres Wednesday. The executive producer is Steven Spielberg and it looks really good. (The creator and main writer, Mickey Fisher, doesn’t have a lot of credits yet so we’ll have to see how he does.) The premise seems to be that Halle is an astronaut who goes into space and gets knocked up by an alien who takes the form of a hot human. I will definitely watch the first episode, because I’m a TV addict, I enjoy scifi, and it’s a little slow for new content this time of year. (I tried to watch The Leftovers, but it bored me.)
Halle did an interview with US Weekly to promote the show. I really liked her answers here, and this does sound like a smart career move for her. She’s an academy award winning actress, but her film career has taken a dive lately so she moved to a (hopefully) smartly-written TV show where she’s the lead. Her co-star Goran Visnjic is no slouch either. Here’s some of what she told US Magazine:
On being pregnant on the show
I know how to act pregnant, so I thought, I’m going to ace that part of this, for sure. And I love being pregnant – that’s the happiest I’ve been in my life!
Why make the switch to TV?
There was always this stigma with going to television, but I feel the best writing now is on TV. And the studio did me and real solid and did this show in L.A. I really want to be home and be a hands-on mom.
Your character stresses over being a working mom. Sound familiar?
She struggles to find time to do what she loves, but also be a good mother. That’s relatable to me.
Did you prep for space scenes?
Because I had played Storm, I was used to doing wire-work. I also took a zero-gravity flight. An hour and a half of plummeting up and down – I vomited at the end.
What shows do you tune in for?
I make my husband watch Girls. He would never admit that, but you’ve got to do what the wife does sometimes!

It’s true, TV has some of the best writing, but it also has some of the crappiest writing so it can be a toss up.
As far as what she said about being pregnant, one of my friends is like that. She loved being pregnant and says she would do it again. When I was pregnant I threw up a lot in the beginning and had heartburn for the duration, so it wasn’t my favorite experience.
Oh and I’ve looked into those Zero G flights that Halle used to prep for this role. My son was asking about it, but it’s completely out of the question as they cost $5,000. Like Halle, I have a weak stomach (see above) so there’s no way I would do that voluntarily.

Their love for each other is obvious just by looking at them and Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez lit up the scene at the Los Angeles premiere of ?Extant? last night (June 14).
The ?Cloud Atlas? cutie and her ?Unfaithful? husband showed up at the California Science Center ahead of the July 9th launch of the new CBS program.
Meanwhile, Halle?s costars couldn?t say enough great things about her- Goran Visnjic gushed, ?It?s such a blessing to work with her. It's easy to work with her, because of the main things like she's always on time, and she's prepared and ready. But [also] the things like generosity towards everybody on a set."
And Camryn Manheim really sang Berry?s praises- "In my lifetime, I have never worked with somebody more gracious, more thoughtful, more intuitive, more fearless and more graceful than Halle Berry. You think she's beautiful because of her outside, but I know she's beautiful, magnified by a million percent, from what's coming from within. She is spectacular."

Here are some photos of Halle Berry at last night?s premiere of her new CBS show Extant, otherwise known as Halle Berry Got Knocked Up With An Alien Baby. Seriously, that?s the plot of the show. She goes into space, she?s alone on some kind of space station and when she comes back to earth, she?s pregnant. Surprisingly ? given the rumors about her marriage troubles ? Halle arrived at the premiere with her husband Olivier Martinez and Olivier?s gross little mustache. EW.
Thankfully, she also got to pose with her costar Goran Visnjic. There have been rumors ? very sketchy rumors ? that Goran might be a factor in why Olivier and Halle are having relationship problems. Body language analysis says she?s very comfortable with Goran, that they get along and enjoy spending time together. Who knows if there?s more to it?
Halle?s dress is Jenny Packham ? does that surprise anyone else? I like Packham?s gowns for the most part, but this is so clean and minimalist, I feel like it?s Packham copying Calvin Klein or Narciso Rodriguez. Anyway, I love that Halle has a little tummy ? she just gave birth last October and it?s a nice reminder that not every woman ?snaps back? immediately, nor should that be the expectation. Also: her boobs look fantastic.
PS? Malia Obama, 15, has worked/is working as a production assistant on Extant. Apparently, she dreams of being a director.

Things definitely didn?t end well between Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry and now she?s been told to pay up.
Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon has ordered that the ?Monster?s Ball? babe fork over $16,000 per month to help support their daughter Nahla, or $192,000 per year.
Furthermore, Halle owes Aubry a retroactive payment of $115,000 as well as the full amount of Gabriel?s legal fees, around $300,000.
Thankfully, Ms. Berry is now happily married to Olivier Martinez and they have an 8-month-old son together.

In June, 2012, Halle Berry was ordered to pay her ex, Gabriel Aubry, a whopping $20,000 a month in child support for their then four year-old daughter, Nahla. That number of course took into consideration the difference between their incomes. Halle has a net worth of $70 million, while Gabriel, a male model, has a net worth estimated at $4.5 million. Of course those numbers may not reflect their day to day financial reality. Halle has a new TV show coming out in July, a sci fi series on CBS called Extant. The last we heard about Aubry’s income, he owed $200k in back taxes and was rumored to be struggling in his modeling career.
Gabriel’s financial situation is about to become more stable, since Halle was ordered to pay him over $100k in missed child support payments along with $16,000 a month for Nahla, now six.
Halle Berry’s checkbook is about to get a workout … she’s going to start paying baby daddy Gabriel Aubry $16,000/month in child support — which comes to almost $200K a year.
A judge signed off on a settlement involving their custody dispute over 6-year-old Nahla.
L.A. Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon also ordered Berry to pay Aubry a retroactive payment of $115,000. And get this … she also has to pay him $300,000 in attorney’s fees.

What many outlets are missing is that $16k a month is a decrease from the amount Halle was previously ordered to pay, which she obviously hasn’t bothered to pay in over six months. She’s a deadbeat mom, basically, and what’s interesting to me is that Halle stopped paying her child support right around the time that her son with Olivier Martinez, Maceo, was born.
I wonder if Halle is still with Olivier. There was a rumor in March that Olivier moved out, and we haven’t heard much since. I did find photos of them together on Mother’s Day about a month ago, so maybe everything is ok on that front. Whatever the case, it’s probably a good thing that Halle wasn’t allowed to move to France with Nahla.

Making progress on her latest project, Halle Berry filmed scenes for ?Extant? in Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon (June 3).
The ?Monster?s Ball? babe discussed her script with a costar, looking lovely in a lavender top with black trousers as she prepared for the next shoot.
?Extant? is slated to premiere on Wednesday, July 9th on CBS and there?s even a new teaser trailer making rounds on the internet.
Per the synopsis, ?After spending a year in space, where she lived and conducted strange experiments, astronaut Molly Watts tries to resume a normal life with her family consisting of her husband, John, a gifted scientist, and Ethan, their son, a boy like no other. He is not their biological son as Molly is infertile. Ethan was designed by his father as the first prototype of a future line of ?human robots.? But the return of Molly will have dramatic consequences for the entire planet and the fate of mankind ...?
