These are photos from last night’s Unite:4humanity gala in Beverly Hills, which honors celebrities for their commitment to charity. Halle Berry, a longtime supporter of domestic violence causes and in particular The Jenesse Center, was presented with the Creative Conscience Award by Queen Latifah. Halle was in a black v-neck David Koma gown with a fitted zippered bodice and a slightly asymmetrical bell skirt. This is a great dress for the occasion and it’s sexy without showing too much skin. I am not liking Halle’s new hair, which is surely extensions anyway. (She had a chin length bob a couple of weeks ago.) The whole vibe is very Jennifer Garner, but it’s not fug. I just wish she was still rocking short hair, it really suits her.
Emily Blunt was in a bizarre Peter Pilotto dress featuring metal florescent flower-like appliques. I don’t get this dress at all. Maybe if the rivet things were limited to just the top, it wouldn’t seems as busy. Kaiser mentioned to me that Emily looks very thin. She does look smaller than she did a couple of months ago.
Here’s Pink trying to work a Little House on The Prairie Michael Kors dress with a dust ruffle, puffy sleeves and a high neck. Why was this dress even made and what possessed Pink to wear it?
Two women wore oversize pantsuits to the event, a newly blonde Camilla Belle and Beth Behrs. Camilla’s hair makes her look like a different person, but she gets points for wearing a shell under her jacket. (Just because Jennifer Aniston does it, doesn’t make it ok.) Both of these suits need tailoring.

TMZ obtained documents in Halle Berry’s child support case in which the actress seeks to reduce her monthly child support payment to her ex boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry, from $16,000 a month to just $3,800 a month. We heard a couple of weeks ago that Berry sought to have her monthly payment reduced, and now there are more details in the case. Berry and Aubry share 50/50 custody of their daughter, Nahla, 6. Aubry is a male model who used to command top dollar from brands such as Valentino, Versace and DKNY. He’s fallen on hard times lately and in recent court documents says that he suffered six months without work following a Thanksgiving, 2012 beatdown from Halle’s then-fiance now-husband, Olivier Martinez, which injured his face. Halle claims that he’s a freeloader, essentially, and that he’s not working because he gets enough to live on from her substantial child support. Here’s some of TMZ’s report.
Gabriel Aubry is fighting Halle Berry’s attempt to slash his child support by more than 400% … because her husband beat the crap out of him so bad he can’t get work, but the photos tell a different story.
TMZ has obtained documents filed in their never-ending custody and support war. We broke the story … Halle is trying to reduce Gabriel’s child support for 6-year-old Nahla from $16K a month to around $3,800 a month.
Gabriel refers to the Thanksgiving day fight in Halle’s driveway back in 2012, in which he accuses Olivier Martinez of a sneak attack that pulverized his face. He says it took him 6 months to heal before he could possibly work again, and since then he’s only gotten 3 gigs.
But we checked out photos of Gabriel, and just 6 weeks after the fight there’s barely a sign of injury.
Halle attacks Gabriel as a deadbeat who is using child support to avoid having to work. She says, “There is no case, no law, no logic that says a healthy, active man gets to simply live off child support that the wealthier mother earns.”
And in Halle’s docs, her lawyer, Steve Kolodny, says Gabriel uses monthly child support for his own needs, including:
$740 a month for Gabriel’s “Fitness”
$940 a month in clothing (Gabriel lists Nahla’s clothing expenses separately — $675 a month)
$700 a month for Gabriel’s health insurance
$1,975 a month in car expenses
$1,100 a month in furniture and electronics

Imagine if the genders were reversed and Aubry was a woman who was injured by her ex’s girlfriend and was no longer able to work as a model. There would be much more sympathy for that side. Plus it’s obnoxious for TMZ to say that Aubry looked fine 6 weeks after the injury. Looking fine in paparazzi photos and having the ability to model professionally are two different things. They’re firmly in camp Halle because she’s their source.
Meanwhile, a source close to Halle tells People Magazine that Halle “does feel that he is abusing the system and taking advantage of her. Halle does work hard for her money, and it’s not easy for her to juggle the two kids with her work schedule. It’s understandable that she feels Gabriel should be able to make enough money to support Nahla.” Surely there’s some kind of balance here where Aubry can work more than he does and Halle can pay him somewhat less without reducing his yearly child support payment to just $45k a year. That’s a drop in the bucket to her. This isn’t about what’s best for Nahla, it’s about Halle sticking it to her ex. Child support is determined by the income of the wealthier parent, not by some arbitrary system where someone’s expenses are nitpicked.

Halle Berry has some diverse side projects, most of which I don?t keep up with. Sorry! I know she has a perfume line, and now I know she?s relaunching an older lingerie line, Scandale Paris. Halle gave an interview to Yahoo about her takeover of the 82-year-old lingerie line ? apparently, she?s going to make it more affordable, but the bras and panties are still going to be good-quality. In this interview, she talks a lot about what her ?French husband? Olivier Martinez taught her about dressing, plus some boob advice.
How her French husband changed her: ?I have definitely changed as a result of being married to a French husband. French women would not put their sweats on and run out to the market. So I care more about what I wear out of the house, because if not, he calls me out on it. [French women] put a lot of energy into their outerwear, but also their underwear. They?re not going to get caught in an emergency room without being prepared.?
Her mother?s boob advice: ?She said if I don?t want my boobs to hit my knees by the time I?m 30, always wear a bra, even to bed.?
She?s not using her sex symbol image to move bras: ?I don?t think I?m using my sex symbol image, if that?s what you want to call it, to sell the line. I?m not the model, so no I?m not trying to use that part of me at all.?
Aging in Hollywood: ?I think both actors and actresses face this. It?s not just women. As an actor you face having to age and redefine yourself. The roles you were able to play before, you can?t play anymore. So you have to adapt and play a different role. And as actresses, we need to accept that we?re not always going to be the sexy ingenue, but hopefully we get better with age.?
Whether Nahla has seen her movies: ?She hasn?t seen any of my movies, so she doesn?t quite understand what I do for a living. The beauty of our lifestyle is my daughter doesn?t see me as any different than anyone else. I try very hard to be like other mothers.?
Gossip about her private life: ?I?ve learned that I can?t care about what people say about me because caring is too stressful and too hurtful,? she says. ?It?s all just fodder and nonsense,? before reconsidering that her new role as an executive might mean that ugly incidents like a 2012 fight between Martinez and Aubry might affect her bottom line. ?It can start to matter and affect you when you think about being a brand. People want know that they can trust you. But I?m happy to say none of the negative things that come from those people hiding behind their computers ? I call them the haters ? have permeated me through my career.?

I think it?s extremely cold to basically say that your husband isn?t going to physically assault your ex-boyfriend anymore because it will affect your business. Like, if Halle wasn?t trying to make herself into a household ?brand,? then sh-t would still be going down with her custodial arrangement with Gabriel Aubry. That’s what she’s saying. I suppose that makes me a HATER.
As for the boob advice? I?ve heard that before. I feel like a lot of women of a certain age were told to do that, to wear a bra at all times, even while you?re sleeping. I HATE sleeping in bras, so that?s probably why my boobs don?t look as good as Halle?s.

She has oodles of talent and plenty of sex appeal and Halle Berry's latest venture finds her knee-deep in lingerie design.
The ?Monster?s Ball? babe has joined forces with Target department stores to launch a newly-revitalized Scandale Paris lineup of unmentionables priced around $16 per piece.
Berry explained, "I fell in love with Scandale while I was in Paris, because the brand reminded me of the city itself?beautiful and inspiring.?
And of the new 10-piece range, Halle heralded, ?I am excited for the US debut to be at Target and to launch the brand globally in 2015. I look forward to giving more women the chance to enjoy what European women have come to love for more than eight decades."
Scandale Paris co-owner Erik Ryd added, "It is a fantastic opportunity to have this relationship with Halle Berry where she is a true partner in the business. We are delighted that she discovered Scandale and wanted to be a part of the brand's future. Her knowledge of what women want matched with our lingerie expertise and Scandale's rich heritage is what makes this collaboration so special."

Stepping out for a social call, Halle Berry met up with a gal pal in Tinseltown on Monday afternoon (September 15).
The ?Swordfish? starlet showed off her new hair extensions as she and her friend hit up Miele International, a high-end designer store for appliances and furniture.
And despite her new longer tresses, Berry previously told ELLE that she actually prefers her hair to be cropped.
?I love short hair - that?s me, that?s who I am. I just feel confident and feel like my best self when I have short hair. But it?s fun to change sometimes. I get a little bored and, as a woman, I want to change my shoes, my outfit, and my hair. And thanks to extensions, it?s easy to do.?
She added, ?I've had long hair until I was about 18 or 19, when I first started acting. I would go to auditions and see every other girl in the room with long, curly hair -- whether it be natural or weaved in. I remember thinking this isn?t working for me. I have to somehow be different from these girls, so I cut all my hair off. I went to my manager?s office and he almost had a heart attack. He said, ?You?re never going to work. You are no longer commercial.? And I said, ?That?s exactly it. I look like every other girl and they?re never going to notice me.? Two weeks after I did that, I got my first acting job.?

Halle Berry wasn’t nominated for anything last night. She couldn’t have been, because she only made the jump to television this year. She was just one of the bigger name presenters, and she owned that stage when she floated out to announce the final Emmy, for Lead Drama. (Breaking Bad FTW.)
Halle wore this amazing Elie Saab gown in a light lilac color. The dress fits her like a glove and features a diaphanous skirt and modern gold belt. It reminds me of her character Molly’s fashion on Extant. Molly is always wearing contemporary, draped fashion in solid colors. Halle hit it out of the park here, I’m so impressed. Her styling is spot on too.
Edie Falco also looked incredible in a bold Escada gown that is tailored perfectly for her. I’m not sure what to call this purplish blue color, but an online color tool tells me it’s called “Christalle,” which I haven’t heard of before. I really like this dress on her. Edie was nominated for lead actress in a comedy, for Nurse Jackie, which went to Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Nominated in the same category, for her work in Mike & Molly, we have Melissa McCarthy in custom Marchesa. I normally dislike Marchesa’s design, but this is a pretty gown and a change from her usual designers. I like the sequin belt although the tulle skirt is a little much.
Presenter Debra Messing was in a full length Angel Sanchez black dress featuring sheer asymmetric lines. In some light this dress looks like a deep navy blue, but I do think it’s black. I know many people will find this boring, but it’s something I would wear. I favor clean contemporary design and this dress is an excellent example of that. It’s a nice choice and a unique look.

And the ?Swordfish? star is parlaying her fame into yet another successful celebrity fragrance venture with a new ad campaign for Wild Essence.
The 47-year-old Berry upgraded her coif with some lovely extensions as she posed against a jungle backdrop in a sheer black dress with a thigh-high slit and a mist of sweat on her skin.
Of the Wild Essence perfume, Halle explained, ?The essence of a woman is in body and soul and becomes more sensual in nature. With my newest fragrance I wanted to go deep into the rainforest where I could capture the primal richness of nature in an effortless scent.?

Earlier this year, the tabloids (mostly Star/Radar and the NYDN) kept claiming that Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez were already on the rocks, less than a year after they got hitched in France and just months after they welcomed their son, Maceo. The rumors percolated for a while, but Halle?s people half-heartedly shut them down. Then, a month ago, Halle and Olivier made a big show at the premiere event for her CBS show Extant. Olivier wore a creepy mustache and Halle looked tired, but their body language seemed comfortable enough to put many of the rumors to rest. Well, Round 2 is here. Star says Halle and Olivier have been living separately and Olivier doesn?t even care that he?s gained weight. Damn, bro.
Halle Berry & Olivier Martinez seem to be on the fast track to splitsville. Star can reveal that the couple, both 48, who are parents of son Maceo, 10 months, have been living separately for months.
?They don?t talk to each other much,? dishes a source, ?and when they do, it?s only about their son.?
Friends also say that Olivier?s recent weight gain is a bad sign.
?He?s let himself go a bit,? says the pal. ?She works hard to stay beautiful, but his blatant lack of interest speaks volumes about his feelings for her.?

I?ll buy that they?re living separately, but I?ve always thought their relationship was much more combustible and dramatic than the ?happy couple at peace together? image Halle wanted to push. To be fair, I think Halle only does relationships that are full of drama and nonsense. And she might have found her equal in Olivier. But here?s what I don?t buy: that he?s gained weight?! And that somehow his weight gain (??) is a signal that he and Halle are done??

I’m covering this story because I want to talk about Extant. I am really enjoying that show, and it is a welcome addition to the dearth of summer programming. (Although I’m also watching True Blood and Ray Donovan and need to catch up on Masters of Sex. I wish Showtime would promote Ray Donovan as much as they’re hyping Sex, it’s an excellent show.)
Anyway, Star Magazine claims that the new show’s star, Halle Berry, is hard to read on set. She’s sometimes unapproachable, sometimes friendly to crew, and they’re unsure of how to act around her. Star’s source says “everyone is on edge.”
Halle Berry may have switched over to television, but she still expects more star treatment! Sources on the set of her new series, Extant, in which she plays an astronaut who returns to Earth pregnant after a year alone in pace, say Halle is making everyone miserable. “The crew was warned not to look Halle in the eye or talk to her except through her assistants, but they’re never around,” says a set insider. “And she plays weird mind games, like throwing a fit over water being the wrong temperature, then, 10 minutes later, offering to buy the crew lunch. Everyone is on edge!”

I don’t doubt that Halle is a diva in some respects, but assuming this is all true I want to give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she had a diva moment with the water, realized how ridiculous she was being and then tried to make it right by treating everyone to lunch. It’s also possible that the instructions about not looking her in the eye and not talking to her came from someone higher up and not Halle.
I’m making excuses because Halle is excellent on Extant. She gives a nice nuanced performance where you can see that she’s tortured but that her character, an astronaut, is trained to reign it in. The supporting actors, particularly Goran Visnjic and Camryn Manheim, are very good too.
Spoilers for past episodes of Extant follow
I have some questions about the plot. In the opening episode I assumed that the Yasumoto corp colluded with the ISEA to impregnate Halle’s character, Molly. This week they seemed to suggest that extraterrestrials had done it and that they were merely aware of it. Also, last week it looked like child robot Ethan was going to turn into some kind of Omen humanoid, but now he seems much more “normal” now.
I like that they’re keeping us guessing with a well-crafted mystery. Plus Extant is doing very well in the ratings. If Halle wants her water a certain temperature, give it to her. Her star power is definitely contributing to the high ratings and her acting elevates that show.

Stepping out for some promotional duties, Halle Berry headed over to the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York City for an appearance on ?The Late Show with David Letterman.?
The ?Monster?s Ball? actress was stunning in a figure-hugging purple dress as she waved to her fans and posed for pictures ahead of her interview.
Halle was in the house to plug her brand new television series ?Extant,? slated to debut on the CBS network on Wednesday (July 9) at 9pm.
Meanwhile, last month Berry was ordered to begin paying $16,000 per month to her baby daddy Gabriel Aubry as a means of child support for their daughter Nahla.
