Johnny Depp is not only a talented actor with incredible screen presence, but he’s also an all-around swell guy who seems very open (relatively speaking) to the suggestions of others. While I wish that we could somehow talk him out of his latest wang-sheath fashion craze, that’s probably not possible, so we’ll have to settle for the fact that Depp has twice spoken of the fact that he’s “absolutely” open to doing a cameo in the “21 Jump Street” reboot and would definitely do it if it’s offered. Well, the offer has arrived, and Depp has now been confirmed for said cameo of the Jonah Hill-scripted movie:
It looks like Jonah Hill has gotten his wish. ComingSoon.net has confirmed that Johnny Depp will indeed have a small cameo role in Columbia Pictures’ 21 Jump Street, which is now filming for a March 16, 2012 release.
To be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), the big screen adaptation stars Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Rob Riggle, DeRay Davis, Dave Franco and Jake Johnson.
Based on the Fox series that ran from 1987 to 1991, the movie will center on two undercover cops (Hill and Tatum), who are assigned to work in schools. Cube is playing the police chief and Larson is the female lead.
Hill had previously said that they had written a “really funny” cameo for Depp and was hopeful that he would do it.

Yes, the reboot (like virtually all others) will probably suck (since it stars the interchangeable Channing Tatum and the by-now-ridiculous Ice Cube, why wouldn’t it?), but I think it’s great that Depp has confirmed that he’ll be making an appearance. Lots of actors in his position would probably think they’re just beyond backtracking a few decades to revisit the franchise that made their name, but Johnny is totally down with this sort of thing:
He was so fine back in the day, wasn’t he? Although I’m wondering whether Depp will reprise his former television show character or if they’ll just plop him into the movie in a very unexpected manner. Whatever the case, the alleged “funny” nature of the cameo will once again prove that Depp can make light of himself and is perfectly willing to do so. In fact, he does so regularly by playing such eccentric characters like his most famous to date, Jack Sparrow, a role that (as we’re all quite aware by now) he’ll reprise very soon in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides. Continuing his reign as one of the most popular actors on the planet, Johnny Depp was an early winner at the 24th Annual Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday (April 2).
The "Pirates of the Caribbean" hunk took home the prize for Favorite Actor for his portrayal of The Mad Hatter in ?Alice in Wonderland?.
Upon taking the stage, Depp told the audience, ?It?s truly a pleasure to win this award. You guys are our future, take good care of us.?
Offering up a surprise, Johnny started to walk off stage before pausing, turning around and spraying the crowd with the infamous green slime.
As for the show, the Kids' Choice Awards were hosted by Jack Black while airing live on Nickelodeon beginning at 8PM ET.

He?s always up for a challenge, and Johnny Depp has reportedly signed on to guest star in Ricky Gervais? new sitcom ?Life?s Too Short.?
The ?Pirates of the Caribbean? stud was confirmed for the gig via Gervais? blog, which also denied that Jerry Seinfeld would be stopping by.
Ricky simply wrote, ?The Depp bit is true. The Seinfeld isn?t.? Gervais? reunion with Johnny comes after he took a few jabs at Depp?s film ?The Tourist? at the Golden Globe Awards.
?Life?s Too Short? will be showing up on the HBO network here in the States as well as BBC2 over in the UK.

Taking care of some overseas promotion, Johnny Depp was spotted at the premiere of his film ?The Tourist? in Tokyo, Japan today (March 3).
The ?Rango? actor showed up at Roppongi Hills Arena where he posed for the paparazzi along with director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck.
According to a source, hundreds of fans waited in the frigid weather just to catch a glimpse of Depp at the event.
And four lucky fans received a gift of traditional Japanese sweets from Johnny, who caused one of the winners to burst into tears when he hugged her.

Making his arrival in the Land of the Rising Sun, Johnny Depp was spotted at Narita International Airport in Tokyo, Japan today (March 2).
The ?21 Jump Street? actor sported a coy smile as he posed for photographers in a grey fedora, striped scarf and grey blazer.
As for his upcoming project, a film version of the classic television show ?Dark Shadows,? it sounds like Depp is keeping with the original motif.
Johnny is teaming up with his frequent collaborator Tim Burton for a big-screen adaptation of the gothic show about vampires, werewolves, and zombies.
Depp explained, "I'm very excited to film it. You know, it's something that Tim and I have talked about for a number of years because we were both fans. As kids, you know, you run home at 3 o'clock in the afternoon to go watch this gothic soap opera on television with vampires and everything.?
"So our version, I guess, there's something that's very interesting coming from the screenplay and from the talks that Tim and I have had which is it retains that sort of bizarre distance that everyone has with one another in terms of the characters.?
"Maybe Barnabus, in this version, is maybe a little bit more, maybe waxes a little more poetic now and again, you know? But it's definitely in keeping with the original series."

Johnny Depp has looked like this for too long, I think. When I?m looking through photos of Johnny and the first thing that I notice is that he?s still accessorizing his outfits with a dong sheath/hankie that was all over the place during The Tourist’s promotion, you know he needs to change up his look. Maybe Johnny is like so many of those former pretty-boys, still trying to screw up his appearance so people will focus on the work rather than the pretty. But isn?t Johnny far enough from his pretty-boy past? Isn?t this current dirty, dong-hankie incarnation just his style at this point?
Also: those pants are as bad as Christina Hendricks’ faux-maternitywear. Is Johnny wearing OshKoshB’gosh?
Anyway, these are photos of Johnny yesterday, at the premiere of Rango. Johnny is currently promoting his voice work, as the lead ?Rango?. Who is some kind of desert lizard, I think. When CB and I went to see True Grit, we saw the trailer for Rango, and I?ll admit, it did look cute.
I like how the lizard kind of looks like Johnny? and like Hunter S. Thompson??
Oh, and I guess Isla Fisher is in it too. Why is there so much too-bright turquoise/cerulean lately?

Gearing up for their movie's upcoming release, the stars of "Rango" attended the Los Angeles premiere of the animated picture on Monday night (February 14).
Held at Regency Village Theater, Johnny Depp was definitely a hit as he joined co-stars Isla Fisher and Abigail Breslin on the red carpet.
The premiere comes after quite the surprise over the weekend, as Depp, Fisher and Breslin were in the middle of a press conference when Justin Bieber made an unplanned appearance.
Walking in just after Johnny answered a question as to whether or not he was a "Belieber," the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor exclaimed, "Hey, pal! We just established that I'm a Belieber."
To this, Justin replied, "I'm a big fan of you, so I had to come support you. I just wanted to say 'hi.' I heard you were in the building."
Of the Bieber pop-in, Depp later said, "My daughter was most definitely jealous. Justin, bless him, he's a very sweet guy. He had a pair of his purple glasses in his pocket [and] he said, 'Oh yeah, give these to Lily-Rose.' She was very chuffed [British slang for being really pleased] about that. She was very touched."
"He's a good guy," he added. "A sweet guy."

To the elation of his avid fans, Johnny Depp was on-hand for the 68th annual Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles, California on Sunday evening (January 16).
Held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the "Pirates of the Caribbean" hunk dutifully worked the arrivals area before heading inside to grab up his primo reserved seat.
Undoubtedly one of the more popular guys to grace the big screen, Mr Deppis up for Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical for his work in both "Alice In Wonderland" and "The Tourist" while competing against Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Giamatti and Kevin Spacey.
Along with selecting the tops in cinema, the show also chose Robert De Niro to receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award for career achievement.
As for the ceremony, Ricky Gervais is the host for the Golden Globe Awards - which air live on NBC beginning at 8PM ET/PT.

Making a surprise appearance to the delight of the crowd, Johnny Depp turned up for the 2011 People's Choice Awards on Wednesday night (January 5).
The "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor wandered into the Nokia Theatre while taking a moment to chat with host Queen Latifah before the gig got underway.
Always a fan favorite, Johnny unsurprisingly ended up taking home a little hardware during the course of the ceremony.
Depp beat out the competition to take home a trophy honoring him as the Favorite Movie Actor for his work over the past year.

Their new movie ?The Tourist? is a bit of a contradiction- with bad reviews and low ticket sales, coupled with multiple Golden Globe nominations- but Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp both had a blast making the flick.
In a new clip, the ?Changeling? actress and the ?Public Enemies? stud show their silly side with a series of outtakes.
Angelina, Johnny, and their costar Paul Bettany all had trouble keeping their composure while filming their scenes together.
Add in the fact that they were enjoying the scenery of Venice, Italy and ?The Tourist? sounds like quite the project.
