Making the rounds to promote his new movie, Tom Hanks attended the European premiere of "Captain Phillips" at the BFI London Film Festival on Wednesday (October 9).
The "Forrest Gump" star wore a double-breasted black tuxedo as his lovely wife Rita Wilson posed by his side on the red carpet.
Based on a true story, the drama follows the title character as his American cargo ship is hijacked by Somali pirates in 2009.
While talking about the movie, Tom revealed on the "Late Show with David Letterman" that he has type 2 diabetes. However, he took to Twitter on Tuesday to assure fans, "Yep, I have #2 diabetes. Type 1 is VERY SERIOUS! Type 2 I can manage with good habits. I shall! Hanx"

This surprised me, although I?m not sure why. Tom Hanks was on The Late Show last night and he told David Letterman that he was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. This is becoming more and more common, from what I?ve read ? middle-aged and older men and women getting the diabetes diagnosis. Some people blame a lifetime of poor eating habits, some people blame the prevalence of sugars in our food, and some people blame it on the alcohol. Tom?s diagnosis seems to be

Here are some nice photos of Tom Hanks from last night?s LA premiere of Captain Phillips, a film that I want to see more and more every time I watch a TV ad for it. It looks really good, right? And what I like is that it doesn?t seem like ?A Tom Hanks film where Tom Hanks is Tom Hanks and it?s all about Tom Hanks.? It seems like Tom is the star but the ensemble around him is very strong and everyone is being supported by a very compelling story. Anyway, I?ll totally see it in the theater.
To promote Captain Phillips, Tom did a Reddit AMA, which is like the new thing, I guess. All of these major stars are doing Reddit now. Tom was less Ethan Hawke and more like Madonna, which is to say he was direct and pithy. Madonna?s AMA was hilarious because she had no problems telling anonymous people to shove hydrangeas up their asses, but Hanks is a nice guy so basically his AMA was slightly boring and not all that revealing. You can read the whole thing here and here are some highlights:
Q: Whats your favorite movie you didn’t act in?
Hanks: Recently, Looper. And Das Boot the directors cut.
How many tries did it take to play heart and soul/chopsticks on that huge piano?
That took all afternoon…,
What classic movie would you have loved to have worked on?
2001: A space odyssey
What’s your favorite genre of music?
Give me three guitars, a piano, and a good drummer and I’m done.
Mustache tips. Go.
Shave it off.
Please tell me your favorite piece of trivia from a movie shoot, preferably something we probably didn’t know.
“I had a terrible case of the flu shooting the football scenes in ‘Gump.’”
How is Hooch doing?
Hanks: “All the dogs who played hooch — all four of them — went to dog heaven.”
Do you have the real Wilson from ‘Cast Away’ or was it lost?
Hanks: “I have the old, ratty wilson and sign new ones for charities.”
[In 'Forrest Gump'], do you ever get emotional about yours or others’ performances, or the script? And I’m not talking about fake crying or anything.
Hanks: “When LT. Dan introduced Forrest to his wife, with his titanium legs, I burst into tears …”
[From Reddit]
Tom also confirmed that he?s going to do another WWII miniseries for HBO and that they had come to him, asking him for yet another Band of Brothers-type miniseries. I wish he had gotten more questions about Band of Brothers. I wish he had gotten more questions about some his romantic comedies too, but my guess is that there were mostly dudes asking the questions. But whatever – Tom Hanks reaffirms something we already knew: Tom Hanks is a lovely guy who is lovely to fans.

Showing some love to their German fans, Halle Berry and Tom Hanks showed up at the European premiere of ?Cloud Atlas? in Berlin today (November 5).
The ?Cast Away? hunk proudly donned a mustache with a black jacket/black trousers combo as he hammed it up for the shutterbugs at the CineStar Potsdamer Platz venue.
Meanwhile, Ms. Berry was all smiles in a navy dress with strappy heels as she greeted the crowds who gathered to see her.
In a recent interview, Halle confessed that she loves her cropped coif- ?When I have my short, short hair, that?s when I?m my best self. But hair doesn?t define me. It?s just an accessory that I get to wear, like a handbag or shoes.?

| Did Danny DeVito & Rhea Perlman split because of his wandering eye? | Added 12 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Does anyone else watch It?s Always Sunny In Philadelphia? It?s not one of my can?t-miss favorites or anything, but it?s funnier than most of the network comedies on TV right now, and Danny DeVito is great on the show ? he plays the crazy, perverted criminal patriarch to a band of losers. I always thought that DeVito?s casting on the show was kind of genius ? even though Danny has played a lot of losers and malcontents in his career, most people have the warm-fuzzies for him whenever they see him, and the IASIP character subverts that. Anyway, it turns out that Danny might actually be kind of sleazy in real life. Following the announcement that Danny and his wife of 30 years, Rhea Perlman, were separating, Radar claims that Danny?s had a wandering eye for YEARS. Gross.
Is nothing sacred? Danny DeVito?s shocking split from wife Rhea Perlman was due to his wandering eye, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.
The It?s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star?s wife of 30-years was finally fed up with the 67-year-old actor?s flirty and inappropriate ways and gave him the boot.
In fact, things have been bad between the pair for over 10-years with the marriage hanging by a thread.
?He may not appear to be a ladies? man, but Danny certainly gets a lot of female attention,? a source close to the family told RadarOnline.com. ?Danny can be quite the flirt and because of his powerful status in Hollywood, he?s not ashamed to abuse his position and chat-up young, aspiring woman looking to make it in the industry. Despite his reputation as a lovable, funny guy in movies and on TV, Danny?s actually quite the womanizer. And, like a lot of red-blooded males, if he sees an attractive girl in a coffee shop or walking down the street, he will give her the eye.?
?After years of turning a blind eye to it, Rhea finally snapped. She had enough of his bad-boy behavior and wanted an end to their marriage. The break-up has been on the cards for a long time, probably over 10 years, because they haven?t been happy for a long, long time,? the source revealed.
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Danny and Rhea announced Monday that they have separated after 30-years together.
The pair married in 1982 and have three kids: Lucy Chet, Grace Fan and Jacob Daniel.
Danny and Rhea worked together on the classic sitcom Taxi from 1978-1983 and later appeared onscreen in 1996?s Matilda. In 1992, they founded Jersey Films. Their production company was responsible for a number of successful movies, including Pulp Fiction, Garden State, Erin Brockovich and Freedom Writers.
[From Radar]
So, now you know. Danny DeVito still gets side-action from lots of women. Is it gross because he?s married or because he?s Danny DeVito? Or both? Well, I?m not ready to bury true love yet. Danny and Rhea weren?t one of my ?couples that can never break up?. My Couples That Can Never Breakup include Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson, Emma Thompson & Greg Wise, Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt, and Kevin Bacon & Kyra Sedgwick. I will seriously LOSE IT if Emma and Greg ever split up, or if I suddenly find out that one of them is a cheater.

| Julia Roberts & Tom Hanks cover the June issue of W Magazine | Added 13 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks appear on the cover of W Magazine for the June issue, all to promote The Movie That Will Save America, Larry Crowne. The shoot is mostly All About Julia (OF COURSE) because it would be TACKY to do a photo shoot that didn?t focus on Julia making her little ?Blue Steel? duck-faces. Tom looks? he looks good, I guess. It?s weird seeing him in a fashion magazine, but as he?s aged, he?s gained some gravitas, so in at least one of the shots, he looks like he?s about to fire all of us from our jobs. The interview is kind of meh - Lynn Hirschberg interviews Tom and Julia separately, for some reason. I would imagine the interview would have been a lot funnier if Tom and Julia were in the same room together. You can read the full piece at W, here. Here are some highlights:
Tom Hanks on Larry Crowne, which he cowrote, directed and stars in: ?The movie is about combating cynicism. People are naturally optimistic, but you have to choose to walk away from cynicism. You have to say, I am going to combat cynicism today. I had this idea about a unique guy who loses his job and then, at the end of the movie, realizes that it was the best thing that ever happened to him. He thought he was going to die, but it turned out great!? People are afraid of change. People say, I can?t do this or that. Why? Because I?d have to change something. Well, yes: You should change. The idea of change makes them nervous, but I think change is good. Always.?
Hanks on making the change from comedy to drama: ?I told my agents that I wasn?t going to play pussies anymore. I was tired of playing, ?Oh, boo-hoo?I was in love, but oh, boo-hoo-hoo.? There comes an age when you can?t do that anymore. I wanted to play men instead of boys. In your mid-30s, it?s time to start playing guys of compromise. And as you get older, men of bitter compromise [Laughs].?
Don?t say ?bellhop? around Hanks: ?Bellman. Bellhop and bellboy are derogatory terms. Call them ?sir.? Terms of respect go a long way in that job.?
Writing a part for Julia: ?I had some teachers [in junior college] who looked like Julia. I would see them and think, I love you. So there was never anyone but Julia. Still, even after she said yes, I was the boss. That meant I got to say, ?You don?t wear this dress, you wear that dress.? And Julia?s Julia?she can be intimidating [Laughs].
Julia Roberts on how she didn?t go to college: ?No. This was my first college experience. And the first time I had to speak in front of a classroom, I was apoplectic. All these faces looking up at me, thinking, What is she going to teach us? I needed to find my composure. It was very hard?it was terrible, in fact.?
Julia on what classes she?d take if she went to college: ?I guess I?d take a class in homeopathy or psychology?something that I would use in my life. I did actually start taking sewing classes recently. I can wear what I?ve sewn, if I?m not in a strong wind. And I?m taking piano lessons with my kids. We can blame this new frontier on Tom Hanks. I sat next to a musician at a dinner party at Tom Hanks?s house, and I started thinking about piano lessons. In your 40s, you?re supposed to learn new things so your brain doesn?t turn to mush. So I?m practicing scales.?
Julia on being directed by Tom Hanks: ?God, no. We knew each other socially. When I was in Rome, shooting Eat Pray Love, Tom sent me the script and said, ?Tell me what you think.? I couldn?t stop smiling when I read it: It?s topical, but very positive. It contains this moment in history in a very interesting way. The movie says, You can lose your job and your way and still rescue yourself. Larry Crowne creates a self-excavated utopia, and I love that idea, that message. And Tom is so good at making fun of himself. In the beginning of the film, he?s wearing pleated khakis. No one should wear pleated khakis onscreen.?
On playing a character that likes her liquor: ?I spend a lot of the movie woozy. Why did Tom Hanks think of me when he thought of a drunken schoolteacher? What does that mean? He has me chugging margaritas. It?s hard to chug a margarita! [Laughs] I asked why it couldn?t be straight liquor, and he said it was funnier if it was a drink made in a blender.?
Julia on not doing so many romantic comedies nowadays: ?I think it?s called growing up. Light and funny has a more compelling quality when you?re younger. But I haven?t abandoned the genre: I love falling down; I love Lucille Ball. It?s just that a lot of those stories revolve around problems that I can?t convincingly portray at this age.?
Julia on whether she?ll ever direct: ?No. I can direct breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I take pride in my kitchen, but I?m not going to direct a movie.?
Julia takes credit for Javier Bardem?s Oscar nomination for Biutiful: ?Yes, I was the loudmouth on that. It was such a crazy travesty that the movie wasn?t getting attention. And it?s fun to throw your weight around. That?s one of the perks of what we do.?
Julia didn?t get to keep the red gown from Pretty Woman: ?No, even though it was made for me, they didn?t let me keep anything from the movie. But I did get to keep the wedding dresses from Runaway Bride. They?re all boxed up in my garage. I?ve never opened them. It?ll be fun one day when Hazel [Roberts?s daughter] is taller. She can play dress-up with her friends.?
[From W Magazine]
Eh, what is there to say? Julia sounds so full of herself, but that?s nothing new. She?s a legend in her own mind, but I have to say, I kind of agree with her on a few points. I like that she?s self-aware enough to say something like ?Light and funny has a more compelling quality when you?re younger? It?s just that a lot of those stories revolve around problems that I can?t convincingly portray at this age.? She?s saying that a smug look on her face, I know, and it?s very Gwyneth Paltrowesque: ?I have a husband, children, a career and money. I don?t even remember a time when I didn?t have it all.?
Here’s the trailer for Larry Crowne. I know my mother is going to make me go see it.
