Brad Pitt covers the June/July issue of Esquire to promote World War Z. The interview was released last night and I’ll be covering it later today. The interview was done by Tom Junod around the beginning of April, when Angelina was in the midst of her multiple mastectomy and reconstruction surgeries. Brad didn?t give Junod any clue into what was going on. And so after Angelina?s announcement (one week ago today), Junod published an addendum (consider it a ?reimagining?) to his yet-to-released Esquire cover story. It?s just his basic thoughts on Brad and Angelina?s relationship and Brad talking about how much he loves his girl. It?s really nice:
Tom Junod’s profile of Brad Pitt will appear in the June/July issue, which is on newsstands at the end of the month.
When I met Brad Pitt the day after Easter, he was so tired that he was perhaps more reflective than usual. He had just finished a week of spring break with his family. He had camped out with them the night before on his property north of Santa Barbara, and he had woken up, he said, too early, as well as too wet. They had slept in tents, four of his six children, along with two of their friends, and then he had gotten all of them in a van and driven them down to LA.
?Angie too?? I asked.
?Yeah,? he said. ?Angie too.?
I told him that I?d met her a few years before, when I profiled her for Esquire. She was making a movie about the wife of the murdered journalist Daniel Pearl, and the thesis of my story was that while 9/11 was supposed to make us all better — a better country and a better people — it only worked for Angelina Jolie. The story has won a kind of immortality as ?The Worst Celebrity Profile Ever Written,? and when I told that to Angelina Jolie?s partner, he at first laughed and said that he hoped Esquire would use that as the title of the profile I was writing about him. Then he got serious. ?But you were right,? he said. ?You were right, you were right. Angie is….the best person…..?
I remembered meeting Angelina Jolie — how thin she was, how much steak she ate and wine she drank, and above all her utter self-possession. She answered every question I asked, but she was the kind of person who responded without ever simply reacting. Brad Pitt was different. He was, like a lot of men, stuck between family and work, and the day he came back to LA from spring break was the day he began the push to finish his summer zombie movie, World War Z. And so, although he was Brad Pitt, he was also a big guy, dressed in black, stained around the eyes by stress and exhaustion, who spoke leaning forward, bent at the waist, with his hands folded between his legs, and was in the habit of repeating himself between long pauses. ?I?m a crap interview,? he?d warned me, but when he began talking about his family, he said twice, ?I haven?t known life to be any happier,? and he said it in such a way that I never once thought to doubt him.
This was April 1. I didn?t know then what I know now — that a month earlier, his partner, Angelina Jolie, commenced the series of surgeries that would end, a month later, with her pre-emptive double mastectomy. Over the next few weeks, I talked to several of Pitt?s close friends. They must have known what the couple was enduring, but of course they never told me. One of them, however, called me back after our first interview. His name was Frank Pollaro, and he?d spoken about the furniture business he?d started with Brad Pitt, and about Pitt?s excellent eye. But he wanted to say something else, so he called Brad, and asked if he was at liberty to speak about Brad?s relationship with Angelina. He was, and so when he called back, he told me what he?d seen at Brad?s house — ?once I walked in and Angie was standing there and Zahara walked up and said, ?Daddy, you?re not going to start making out with Mommy again, are you?? And it?s like that. This is a guy who has tried not to do any sexy scenes with other women since he?s met Angelinia. He?s crazy about her, and she?s the same way about him. No matter how hard he?s working, if one of those kids runs by the window he?ll get out of his chair and give them a kiss. And I don?t think I?ve ever seen Angie without one of those children in her arms.?
It?s the nature of marriage — or, in the case Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, a committed relationship — to both invite and repel scrutiny. We have no idea how any two people make a life together, much less two people as professionally exhibitionistic and privately enigmatic as the two combined in the public mind as ?Brangelina.? But I will say this: a long time ago, Brad Pitt left college in Missouri to come to LA and act in movies. He insists that he wasn?t looking for stardom, only a sense of life and possibility larger than what he left behind. He insists that he was searching the chimera of Hollywood for something real. This morning, the mother of his children revealed in the New York Times that he was ?at the Pink Lotus Breast Center, where I was treated, for every minute of the surgeries.?
You do not have to be a celebrity, only a father and a man in love with a woman, to know that life doesn?t get any more real than that.
[From Esquire]
Does Junod sound like a fan-boy? Sure. But that doesn?t mean I didn?t enjoy this piece immensely. Junod infamously profiled Angelina several years ago ? he references that in this piece, and you can read the old story here. It?s not a particularly revealing interview for Angelina, but again, it sounds like it was written by a fan-boy. And why not? Why can?t a celebrity journalist admit that he or she believes that Brad and Angelina are in love and in it for the long haul? That despite all of the glitz and bulls?t that comes with their jobs, they actually managed to make something real and lasting together? *adjusts Brangeloonie tin foil hat*

Brad Pitt covers the June issue of Vanity Fair. The cover shot is freaking me out a little bit. It?s not that Brad looks bad or anything, it just feels like they Photoshopped his eyes or something. He looks sort of like a zombie ? which might be on purpose, considering the cover story doesn?t seem to be a straight-forward celebrity profile, but rather a profile of how much it cost to make World War Z and how difficult it was for everyone involved. Brad has put a lot of his Hollywood power on the line, and I?m sure he?s lost professional friendships because of World War Z. Will it be worth it in the end? Will WWZ end up making money? Also: there are some concerns that Brad didn?t even sit down for a photoshoot with VF, that this is an outtake from a photoshoot he did with the New York Times two years ago. Well? at least it?s not a dead celebrity. Here?s the VF cover story excerpt:
?He took me through how excited he was when he read the book, what was exciting for him, the geopolitical aspect of it,? screenwriter Damon Lindelof tells Vanity Fair contributor Laura M. Holson in the June issue of Vanity Fair of meeting Brad Pitt to discuss the star?s troubled zombie project, World War Z.
Lindelof says Pitt explained, ??But when we started working on the script, a lot of that stuff had to fall away for the story to come together. We started shooting the thing before we locked down how it was going to end up, and it didn?t turn out the way we wanted it to.?? The actor asked him to watch an edit, and told him, ?The thing we really need right now is someone who is not burdened by all the history that this thing is inheriting, who can see what we?ve got and tell us how to get to where we need to get.? Lindelof tells Holson the ending was abrupt and incoherent, but more importantly they were missing a large chunk of footage.
In her revealing report, Holson also speaks to director Marc Forster and Paramount executives Marc Evans and Adam Goodman about the many problems that plagued the set?which included re-writing and reshooting 40 minutes of the film to find a coherent ending?and, most astonishingly, how the budget ballooned to around $200 million.

| Brad Pitt in the second trailer for World War Z: is this going to be a blockbuster? | Added 12 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

A few months ago, we saw the first full trailer for Brad Pitt?s neverending trainwreck-production World War Z, and I was surprised by how good it looked. Granted, I didn?t read the book that it?s loosely based on, and I would probably feel differently if I had read the book. I hear the book was slower and more meditative, and the film has completely rearranged the way the story (of the zombie apocalypse) has been told. But considering this film cost something like $200-300 million to make and considering it?s being released in June, the expectations for this to deliver on a popcorn-blockbuster level are pretty high. And now that I?ve seen the second trailer? I think the film might actually deliver??
Yeah. I would see this, and I?m not even into zombie stories. There?s an element (I think) of 28 Days Later to this, only instead of telling a smaller, personal story of the zombie apocalypse in England, WWZ is all about the global pandemic and how a super-power deals with the disaster. Call me crazy, but I think Brad?s crazy gamble might pay off and this movie is going to be HUGE. Men of all ages will want to see it because it?s about zombies and ladies will agree to see it because it stars Brad Pitt.
Here?s the new poster for the film too ? it?s striking but they could do better.

Here are some photos of Brad Pitt earlier this week at LAX. To the naked eye, he looks as lean as always, although Brad knows what every lady knows: black is slimming, and mask your problem areas by drawing the eye to your strengths. Brad feels like his strengths are his face, his neck, his check and his shoulders. That?s what his outfit says ? it says ?Top front, look at the top front.? Does Brad ever have a moment of ?Does my butt look big in these pants?? Does he ever lament his bygone six-pack? Does he have a small muffin top? Well, Brad might think he has some problem areas, at least according to Star Magazine. They claim Brad has taken to wearing Man Spanx.
Does Brad Pitt wear Spanx? A source says Brad has been sporting a girdle to control his pudgy midsection recently.
?They minimize the bad and accent the good,? an insider explains of Brad?s new shapewear from Spanx?s men?s collection. ?He?s close to 50 and is showing his age.?
But Brad says he?s fine with getting older: ?I like aging. With age comes wisdom.?
[From Star Magazine, print edition]
The fact that that Spanx HAS a menswear line should tell you everything ? men care about this stuff too. Men worry about muffin tops. Men worry about bulgy thighs. Men worry about their butts looking big in a particular pair of pants. So, if the Spanx fit, why not wear them? Are we supposed to say that only women can care about this stuff? That only women can have these kinds of small vanities?
? But you know what I wonder? Do Man-Spanx make a man?s bulge look smaller too? Because I bet that?s a dealbreaker for a lot dudes. I wonder if Man-Spanx comes in varieties where there?s extra padding in the crotch? I bet dudes would love that.

| Brangeloonies love some rosé: the Jolie-Pitt wine sells out within 5 hours! | Added 12 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Did you know that Angelina Jolie is a big wine drinker? In her 20s, I don?t think she was much of a drinker at all, but since she got with Brad and since she?s become a mom to SIX children, Angie loves her wine. I?ve also heard that she loves to sip some vodka drinks when she?s chilling out too, but mostly I hear about the wine. As for Brad? I still think he?s more of a pot-smoker than a wine-drinker, but maybe he partakes in both in equal measure. Anyway, Brad and Angelina released their very first ?Jolie-Pitt/Chateal Miraval? wine label. The announcement ? that the wine would go on sale ? came weeks ago, and the wine actually went on sale yesterday. And guess what? Brangeloonies LOVE some wine. The label sold out within hours.
Nine little letters on the back of the bottle set this rose wine apart from other fruits of the Provence grape harvest: Jolie-Pitt.
The Miraval Rose 2012 was produced at the southern French estate of Chateau Miraval ? none other than the property of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
It’s the first Miraval vintage stamped by the Hollywood couple, in a joint venture with established vintner Marc Perrin. The back label even reads “bottled by Jolie-Pitt and Perrin.”
The Perrin family spokesman says the first 6,000 bottles put on sale online Thursday were bought within five hours. The wine sold for $139 for a six-bottle case.
The wine, in a bottom-heavy, champagne-like bottle, goes on sale to restaurants and wholesalers later this month.
There was no immediate comment from Pitt or Jolie’s publicists.
[From People]
Call me crazy, but I think this is a cool little side-project for Brad and Angelina. Obviously, this isn?t some major career move or anything (?I?m quitting Hollywood to become a winemaker!?), but it?s a sweet addendum to their growing brand and their array of side projects. And who doesn?t love a good ros? I like a good ros more than I like a good Chardonnay. And maybe I?m the only person around here who can?t drink Merlot or Cab Sauv without getting a terrible headache.

| Brad Pitt scored a $3 million contract to promote Cadillacs in China | Added 12 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Ah, well. I guess we?ve finally figured out what that weird ?Brad Pitt joins Chinese Twitter, tells China that he?s coming!? story was all about. Brad isn?t really going to China? at least, not really. Apparently, Brad has signed on to do a commercial for Cadillac, which will air only in China. Basically, Brad is still banned in China but Chinese people still like him enough that they will buy Cadillacs just because he says so?
Brad Pitt wasn’t nominated for an Oscar this year, but the Killing Them Softly star is still a hot commodity on the product endorsement circuit.
E! News has exclusively learned that the much-parodied Chanel No. 5 spokesman has agreed to endorse Cadillac in print ads and TV commercials that will air in China.
Pitt, who a source says will earn $3 million for his promo work, will shoot a spot for the car campaign next week in Los Angeles.
Cadillac had no comment on the hiring, and Pitt’s reps have yet to respond to calls to comment. But lest one think this is just a high-paying job for a random automotive product, E! News has been told Pitt has long kept a Cadillac Escalade in his fleet of vehicles.
Hmm, maybe Pitt’s new gig had something to do with him joining Sina Weibo, China’s version of Twitter, earlier this week. Not to mention his first and only tweet so far.
“It is the truth. Yup, I’m coming…,” he wrote cryptically. Well, not so cryptically, after all.
[From E! News]
As you know, many celebrities get millions of dollars to do these advertisements overseas. Sometimes the ads are cute and clever ? I?m thinking of George Clooney?s long-standing contract with Nespresso, or that really funny one Clooney did for a Norwegian bank. Sometimes the overseas endorsement deals are kind of budget and cheesy though. So? I have no idea what to expect from Brad. Considering it?s about cars, you know they?ll put a lot of money into it, so it will probably be pretty good. And hopefully it will be much better than his fruity Chanel commercials.

The reason behind Brad Pitt's mysterious tweet in China may finally have a tangible explanation.
According to E! News, the 49-year-old actor reportedly signed on the newest spokesman for Cadillac and the deal will include various print and TV ads, which will air in the PRC.
News broke just a few days after the ?Fight Club? actor join Sina Weibo, a social network site for citizens of China.
His first post read, ?It is the truth. Yup, I'm coming . . ."
Neither Pitt?s camp nor Cadillac?s reps have commented on the speculated partnership.

| Brad Pitt on gay marriage: 'I believe in the idea of fairness & equality in our country' | Added 12 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
Difficult question: do you think Brad Pitt might have had some eye work? I?m looking at some closeups? maybe it?s just the light? Maybe it?s just some good nightcream? Or maybe he had a minor nip-and-tuck. Just sayin?.
Anyway, more excerpts have been released from Brad?s epic People Magazine cover interview. This is the interview where he referred to Angelina as ?mama? throughout the piece and he says the wedding is ?nigh?. In these new excerpts, Brad is talking about the election, about gay marriage, and how his mom is super-conservative (which we already knew).
Brad Pitt says that even though his mother came out against President Obama and same-sex marriage, he is very happy about the election and feels that the country is headed in the right direction by allowing equal rights to all couples.
In an interview with People magazine, Pitt said that he respectfully disagrees with his mother’s position and has been an outspoken advocate for legalizing gay marriage throughout the U.S.
‘Sure, I believe in it. I believe in the idea of fairness and equality in our country. I truly believe it’s a matter of time. The next generation isn’t frightened by anything,’ Pitt said.
He explained that while he and partner Angelina Jolie, who he called ‘Mama’ throughout the interview, are planning to get married in the near future, they believe that it is a right that should be extended to everyone.
‘I come from a Christian family, and (gay marriage) goes against Christian beliefs, as far as what’s going to get you into heaven or not. My argument is, that you may be as you believe, and it may be true in the end. I don’t think so- but let your God make that call, and in the meantime we live in a country where everyone should be treated equally, so let’s treat everyone equally,’ he said.
Pitt’s political beliefs were called into question when his mother Jane wrote a letter to her local paper claiming that Mr Obama should not serve a second term because he lacks moral conviction and backs gay marriage and ?the killing of unborn babies?.
Mrs Pitt wrote in her letter to the Springfield News-Leader, in Missouri: ?I hope all Christians give their vote prayerful consideration because voting is a sacred privilege and a serious responsibility?.
Brad, 49, said that discussions don’t get too heated over the family dinner table at holidays, explaining: ‘We grew up with a very specific set of rules and challenging those rules has never been a closed door. Certainly our views can evolve. I don’t see them as letting go.’
[From The Mail]
Call me Brangeloonie, but I like Brad?s logical, secular argument for why gay marriage should be legal. It feels like an argument he makes to the conservative Christians in his family, an argument boiling down to ?You can believe whatever you like when you?re in church, but legally everyone should be equal.?
In other Brad news, he told E! News that his kids are questioning the Santa Claus thing. He said, ?I’m not real big on the whole Santa thing. I thought it was a huge act of betrayal when I was a kid. I didn’t like that. When I found out the truth, I was like, ‘Why? Why? Why would you lie to me? Why?’ What I tell them is some people believe it’s Santa, and some people believe it’s parents, and you get to believe whatever you want.?
Betrayal? Yikes. Of course, I don?t even remember having an ?Aha moment? when I was little about Santa. I was a very logical child, and I didn?t understand the logistics of Santa coming to everyone?s house in one night. My father gave up trying to explain it to me ? I think he sort of hoped that I would get over it. I do remember that at one point in my childhood, I was going through the motions of leaving milk and cookies out for Santa just so the dream wouldn?t die for my parents. There was never a sense of betrayal or anything? and even today, I love Santa. One of my favorite Christmas movies is still Miracle of 34th Street (the original version, with a young Natalie Wood).

For many of their fans it seems like it?s taking forever for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to finally tie the knot.
However, according to the ?Fight Club? stud himself, it won?t be too long before he says ?I Do? to his blushing bride.
During an interview at the premiere of ?Killing Them Softly? in NYC, Pitt shared, "I am getting more pressure from my kids, and it is something I want to do within their lifetime, but I also feel like the time has come."
Brad added, "The time is nigh. It's soon. I got a good feeling about it,? sparking speculation of a Winter wedding. He added, "We've had a family, we've raised the kids. I am surprised how much [marriage] meant to me once you had that."

It?s Brad Pitt Day! Of course. Brad attended his premiere of Killing Them Softly last night in NYC, and I believe he?s already heading back to England (for WWZ reshoots) right now. But he got a day for his press junket for the film, and he got to wear all-black for the premiere. Personally, I think Brad looks great here, and I?m not disappointed with the lack of Angelina Jolie. I wasn?t really expecting her to turn up, and I like it when Brad goes solo to his events, just because I know it will inspire Make-A-Controversy spin (?They?re breaking up! Angelina called off the wedding!?). As I said in the previous Pitt post earlier, Brad did a bunch of interviews yesterday, so there are tons of new quotes. Here?s a sampling:
Brad on the wedding plans: “I am getting more pressure from my kids, and it is something I want to do within their lifetime, but I also feel like the time has come? The time is nigh. It’s soon. I got a good feeling about it.”
Family first, then marriage: “We’ve had a family, we’ve raised the kids,” he says. “I am surprised how much [marriage] meant to me once you had that.”
But they still haven?t Saved the Date: “We really don’t ? I don’t know what’s going to happen in two weeks. I certainly don’t know what the new year is going to bring!”
More about the kids: “I will admit, we have had some pressure from our kids. We didn’t realize how much it means to them. We didn’t realize how much it means to us.”
Location, location, location: “We are both migratory workers,” he said of his bride-to-be, 37. “It will be a matter of convenience location-wise.”
Taking a break now that he?s turning 49 years old: “I think that’s coming pretty quickly. I’m going to be 49 in a month. I really enjoy producing and I enjoy this opportunity, but I’ll be less and less in front of the camera.”
The Chanel spoof on SNL: ?I am blissfully unaware of the chatter.?
Religion, gay marriage and drugs: “Equality, absolutely, that’s what defines us. It’s what makes us great. If it doesn’t sit well with your religion, let your God sort it out in the end, but that’s us. We’re equal….I do believe that we should be responsible for our own choices in talking about the drug laws, and that the drug war is an ultimate failure and that the billions and billions of dollars that we’ve committed to it, there’s got to be a better way. I don’t believe in incarceration over education ? don’t get me started. But there’s real damage to drugs; that is not the same as with gay marriage. Since the last round [of elections], they’ve been linked in every article. I find that curious.”
[Via Towleroad, Us Weekly, Extra and People]
I?m also including the Extra video below too. I mean, is any of this extraordinarily newsworthy? Not really. This is pretty much what both Brad and Angelina were saying during Brad?s Oscar campaign earlier this year. I do think they?ll probably get married sooner rather than later, and I wouldn?t put it past them to do a holiday wedding either. I could totally see them having a quiet wedding in France a few days after Christmas. But what do I know?

I?m also including some pics of James Gandolfini and Ray Liotta, both of whom were at last night?s premiere. I love Gandolfini?s smile! He?s such a big bear.
