This time last year, Charlize Theron and Sean Penn were living together and engaged. They were really, really loved up, and many thought that Charlize had made Sean better somehow, that he was less angry and ham-faced. Then they went to Cannes so that Charlize could promote Mad Max: Fury Road. And something happened that May and Charlize has never looked back. We still don?t know exactly what went down, but suddenly their engagement was over, they were no longer living together and Charlize apparently ghosted him. Hard. But she still had to go back and do some reshoots on The Last Face, and now The Last Face is coming to Cannes this year. And no one is looking forward to that red carpet.
Scowling Sean Penn had reason to smile last week when his upcoming movie, African drama ?The Last Face,? was reported to be making its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. But Hollywood insiders have been wondering whether the star of the film ? Penn?s former flame Charlize Theron ? would show up to the debut, and how awkward a reunion could be if she does.
?They hate each other,? a showbiz insider bluntly summed up of Penn and Theron?s relationship since their abrupt split last June, just after the last Cannes. Penn?s film is rumored to be making a debut in Cannes, along with Woody Allen?s latest, ?Caf Society,? starring Kristen Stewart, as well as the Michael Shannon drama ?Loving.? At the French Riviera event last May, Penn was hand-in-hand with Theron on the red carpet for the premiere of her action epic ?Mad Max: Fury Road,? and they attended the Vienna Life Ball soon after. But in June, they suddenly broke up after a year and a half of dating and speculation they?d even been engaged.
But sources point out that Theron did do reshoots and recorded additional dialog for Penn?s film after the pair split. ?These are professionals, whether in a romantic relationship or not,? said another source. Reports last summer said that during reshoots, Penn and Theron looked ?tense.? She stars as the director of an aid agency in Africa, opposite Javier Bardem. Penn and Theron?s reps didn?t comment.

I could understand if it was ?Charlize hates him,? but ?They hate each other??? Why would he hate her? Because she was done with the ham-face and she refused to get back with him? Because he ended up looking like a giant a?hole? Okay, maybe I do understand why he would hate her. Anyway? I do wonder if Charlize will even show up. Maybe she?ll conveniently have some sort of scheduling conflict and avoid Cannes altogether.

One of my favorite gossip moments over the past several years is the now-annual tradition of figuring out what Victoria Beckham did for her birthday. When she turned 37, she looked at a fruit plate. When she turned 39, she looked at a cake. When she turned 40, she thought about brownies. Victoria is very, very conscious of her weight. That?s been the case for as long as she?s been famous (two decades!). She never eats the cake. She never eats the brownies. She might have a few bites from a fruit plate. And as famed celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck says, she?s really ?uptight? about what she eats, even when she visits restaurants famed for their cuisine.
Veteran celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck has revealed that he finds Victoria Beckham ‘uptight’ and says that the star only orders spinach or other steamed vegetables when visiting his upmarket LA restaurant. Austrian-born Puck, 66, who is known for cooking for Hollywood’s A-listers at the Oscars ceremony every year, lifted the lid on Mrs Beckham’s saintly attitude to food…and her less than friendly approach to fellow diners.
He said that the Beckhams are regulars at his popular Cut restaurant in Los Angeles and while David, 42, will happily tuck into a steak, Victoria, 41, prefers just vegetables. Puck, who laid on the catering at the couple’s ‘Welcome to LA’ party in 2008 when David arrived in Calfornia to play football for LA Galaxy, told Heat magazine: ‘David’s there with a steak and she’s there with vegetables. She?s uptight. Everything has to be right, she’s not interested in talking to anyone.’
Puck said that while he enjoyed a friendly relationship with former football star David, who he could ‘talk and talk’ to, he didn’t feel the same way about Victoria, even suggesting that she has a ‘game face’ for public appearances. And when it comes to Mrs B’s food choices, Puck reveals his kitchen will prepare a simple plate of spinach, with just ‘a touch of salt’.

This is what I don?t get about being rich and famous and having access to incredible food: with that kind of money and access, just eat the incredible food. Go for an extra-hard workout the next day, or go on a diet next week, but don?t go to one of the best chefs in the world and ask him for a plate of spinach. That?s so WRONG. It?s a crime against food. And while I?ve heard that Posh can be friendly (or friendlier than people think), I do believe that she?s probably less friendly than David in general.
Puck also says that he knows of many celebrity women who simply stop eating for days ahead of the Oscars, and that Charlize Theron and Sylvester Stallone both love his smoked salmon pizza. And Prince Albert loved his chicken pot pie. Oooooh, now I want a chicken pot pie.

Well, this is an interesting turn of events. It reminds me of Sandra Bullock?s super-quiet adoption in the midst of her split with Jesse James. According to TMZ, Charlize Theron quietly adopted a little girl? last month. Charlize spent six months going through the adoption process, which means she started the process when she was very much with Sean Penn and he was actively seeking to adopt Charlize?s son Jackson. What do you want to bet that Sean was originally going to adopt this child WITH Charlize?
Charlize Theron’s family has grown by one … TMZ has learned she’s adopted a second child.
We’re told Theron worked with an adoption agency for 6 months to seal the deal. The child, an African-American girl, was born in the United States. Charlize took custody of the newborn in July. The baby’s name is August … just like now.
We’re told Charlize specially wanted a girl this time around, and she got it! Theron adopted her son, Jackson, from South Africa back in 2012.

A girl born in July, named August. I actually don?t hate the name. Would it have been better to have a girl named August actually born in August? Sure. But at the end of the day, Charlize got a healthy baby and everybody?s happy. August Theron? I like it. I?ve never really noticed it before, but ?Theron? sounds good with a lot of first names. Will the little girl?s nickname be Auggie? Charlize has likely been hiding the baby while she went to work in England on The Huntsman.
As for the awkwardness between Sean Penn and Charlize after she dumped him and ghosted him, Charlize and Sean have been ?reunited? in the past week? to do reshoots on The Last Face, the film Penn directed and Charlize stars in. The photos from the South African set have been very uncomfortable ? go here to see. What do you want to bet that Sean is trying to talk his way back into Charlize?s life? And if his name is on any of August?s adoption documents, it could get so much more uncomfortable for Charlize.

Here are some photos of Charlize Theron at last night?s LA premiere of Dark Places, the adaptation of the Gillian Flynn novel of the same name. This adaptation was Charlize?s baby ? she not only stars, she produced it and helped get it made. Which means it?s sort of weird for us to complain about how no one really saw her as Libby Day when we read the book. Still, even though Charlize is not my particular dream-casting choice, I have high hopes that the film will be sort of decent.
For the premiere, Charlize wore this flirty little Dior Resort 2016 dress. I appreciate that she went with a light, summery look, because too many ladies are just looking for something new and they end up in a Fall/Winter collection look in the dead of summer. The dress is quite pretty and it looks nice on her. I also like that she did something different with her hair ? the braids are a new look for her. I also love that she showing some grey – this premiere must have come in between dye jobs.
Charlize managed to avoid speaking about Sean Penn and the breakup and I guess we?re all supposed to play along? That won?t last forever, you know. They made the mistake of working together and that film (The Last Face) should be coming out later this year. My guess is that Charlize will talk about what happened with Penn in those interviews.
I?m also including some photos of Sophia Loren and her son Edoardo Ponti, who were there for some unknown reason (seriously, I looked up Ponti?s IMDB and he has no connection to Dark Places). And photos of Christina Hendricks too ? Hendricks was cast as Libby Day?s mom, Patty Day, in the flashback scenes in the 1980s. Hendricks is only one year older than Charlize in real life, but I don?t have a problem with this casting ? it?s not like Charlize and Christina share scenes together, Patty?s scenes are ALL flashbacks. Christina recently spoke about being cast as Patty Day, and she basically said it happened at the last minute because the original actress dropped out. I sometimes worry that Hollywood doesn?t really know what to do with Christina, but she?s managing to do interesting character work pretty consistently.

Charlize Theron has been keeping a lower profile in the months since her split with Sean Penn. She?s barely been pap?d and she?s spent much of the past two months in England, working on The Huntsman with Emily Blunt and Chris Hemsworth. Charlize allegedly ghosted Penn, cutting off all contact, ordering him to move his crap out of her home and refusing to meet him for any kind of breakup explanation. The whole vibe around Charlize is that she?s done and she doesn?t even want to talk about it.
These are photos of Charlize outside Jimmy Kimmel?s studio yesterday. She brought Jackson to the show ? he waited backstage while she did the interview ? and she seems to be promoting her lead role in Dark Places. It?s worth noting that Kimmel did not ask Charlize one single question about Sean, nor did Charlize reference Sean whatsoever. Of course that was on purpose, and I?ve never been more convinced that Charlize dumped him and ghosted him. Icy Bitch Realness!
Here are the video clips of her Charlize?s interview ? this is the funniest part, where Charlize talks about meeting Pres. Obama backstage on the show the last time she appeared on Kimmel. She says she always says inappropriate things when she gets really nervous and when Pres. Obama said something about wanting to reach a younger demographic, this is what happened: “There was this pause, and I didn’t know what to say. All I could come up with was, ‘Well, if you’re looking for a different demographic, I can take you to a strip club.’”

Us Weekly was the first to report that Charlize Theron and Sean Penn had ended their engagement and broken up. Us Weekly reported that last week, although it seems like Charlize and Sean have been done for almost a month, pretty much after the Cannes Film Festival. So, what happened? Radar said that Penn was ?overly critical? of Charlize and that she just reached her breaking point, and that Penn was still trying to get back with her. And now Us Weekly ? the outlet that broke the news ? has some more info.
Straight to voicemail. Charlize Theron and Sean Penn appeared more in love than ever, but just like that, the Mad Max: Fury Road actress stopped picking up her phone. An insider close to Penn tells Us Weekly exclusively that Theron abruptly stopped speaking with the actor during the Cannes Film Festival last month.
“Charlize wasn’t responding to his calls and texts,” the source tells Us. “She just cut it off.”
Us broke the news in December 2014 that the longtime friends became secretly engaged after a year of dating, and of their split on Wednesday. Theron, 39, and The Gunman actor, 54, kept close at Cannes in the south of France, which makes the news even more shocking.
“Sean and Charlize looked very happy together while at the Hotel Du Cap,” a second onlooker tells Us, “with no signs of tension or a breakup.”
The stars may not be speaking for now, but they will be bumping into each other in the future. Penn recently wrapped directing the drama The Last Face, which stars Theron.

Apparently, the abrupt cut-off thing has a name ? it?s called ?ghosting.? Which sounds more like a CIA thing than a relationship thing. Once again, we?re left with the impression that Charlize was the one to end things. Once again, we?re left with the impression that this really did happen suddenly, like they were totally in love one minute and then nothing. My guess is that Sean Penn knows what he did and that whatever it was, there?s no coming back. So if he knows what he did, is it cool to cut off contact completely? I have mixed feelings about the practice (and I’ve ghosted guys and female friends), but if you do it to the right person, they get the message.

You know what surprises me? The lack of details around Charlize Theron and Sean Penn?s breakup. It happened so suddenly, people. One month ago, they were loved up at the Cannes Film Festival. Sean had flown to France specifically to walk the red carpet with Charlize for the premiere of HER film, Mad Max: Fury Road. In the months before, Charlize and Sean had been talking openly in interviews about their happiness together, their love and their future together. And then suddenly it was over? Something weird happened and it bugs me that the tabloids are not on it! Except for Radar ? Radar did this story yesterday:
Sean Penn?s relationship with Charlize Theron may be on ice, but the actor doesn?t see why they can?t keep things sizzling in the sack. A source tells RadarOnline.com that Penn couldn?t resist doing a little drunk dialing after he attended U2?s special May 28 concert at the Roxy Nightclub in Los Angeles.
?During the after-party, Sean was very much acting like a single man on the prowl,? the source tells Radar.
Despite his wandering eye, Penn decided to try to rekindle his connection with his former fiance.

I?m not sure about the booty call (meh) but I?ll believe that the beginning of the end was when he directed her in The Last Face. Sometimes working together can be the kiss of (ham-faced, beef jerky) death. Still doesn?t explain why the end came so swiftly though.
Meanwhile, the new trailer for Charlize?s film Dark Places was just released. We?ve seen an international trailer before, but I like this one better. This is another adaptation of a Gillian Flynn book and Charlize fought hard to make it. Book-wise, I liked Gone Girl more than Dark Places, but I?ll probably see this.

If I?m being honest, I always believed that Charlize Theron and Sean Penn would never make it as a couple long-term. What surprised me was that they actually did make it work for a year and a half and that Charlize truly seemed to make Sean into less of an a–hole. Now sources are whispering to Us Weekly (they broke the story) and People Magazine that Charlize and Sean are done, and that Charlize was the one to break things off. Interesting.
Sad news. Sean Penn and his fiancee Charlize Theron have a called it quits after nearly a year and a half together, multiple sources exclusively confirm to Us Weekly. One insider tells Us that the high-profile pair, who got together in December 2013, decided that their romance was over following their most recent jaunt to the Cannes Film Festival in the south of France. The source tells Us that Theron, 39, was the one to break things off with the fellow Oscar winner.
Theron and Penn, 54, had known each other for decades before their friendship blossomed into romance. A year into their relationship, Us exclusively reported in December 2014 that they had gotten secretly engaged during a trip to Paris. I mean, they were completely loved up throughout the spring, appearing on multiple red carpets together and talking about their relationship in interviews. It seems like Cannes was the breaking point. But why?
