Somebody thought it would be a good idea to send Sienna Miller to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Rosetta Getty, perchance? No, it was most likely a scheme hatched by Sienna?s publicist and the ?social action website? Take Part. Sienna?s mission is to ?raise awareness of violence? in DRC: ?Since 1998, over four million people have died in a conflict that continues to claim 45,000 every month due to violence, starvation, and disease.?
This seems very similar to the multiple missions Ben Affleck took to DRC, although there are some notable differences. Affleck went to the Congo as a Nightline Special Correspondent and an essayist for Time Magazine, and he traveled with the United Nations mission to DRC. Affleck visited some of the most desperate parts of the country, the refugee camps and makeshift hospitals, serving the millions who have been affected by years of war. Sienna, on the other hand, seems to be donating her time to this blog, Take Part. The only mention of any organization that her trip is affiliated with is International Medical Corps, but so far, Sienna?s steering pretty clear of those makeshift hospitals. Here?s her first blog entry for Take Part:
We boarded the flight to Rwanda having spent a night in a gorgeous old colonial hotel in Nairobi. Felt such anticipation as we flew over Lake Victoria and watched the landscape beneath us with its deep reds transforming into luscious green and mountainous peaks. Rwanda is so full of history and so far from home. A country that has been ravaged by war and yet once landing we were met by a sea of smiling faces and stunning landscape. The only reminder of genocide on our four-hour drive to the border of Congo was the banners stretching across the road as a memorial to those who were so brutally murdered.
I don?t really know what I expected the Democratic Republic of Congo to be like. Rwanda felt peaceful, but upon crossing the border, the violence which I have read so much about became apparent. The people weren?t hostile, but we were greeted by a truckload of army guys with rocket launchers on their laps. And our head of security, Martin Gilmour, who has almost definitely seen it all.
I?m traveling with my best friend Tori, Margeret Aguirre from the International Medical Corps and David Serota our cinematographer. We get a security briefing before leaving the border: don?t go anywhere alone, be smart, body language is important, a smile goes a long way.. .and if we get a gun out in our faces, to remain calm and let Martin do the talking. The country feels so different to Rwanda? bustling markets, smoke, chickens and goats running freely, men and women holding hands, and I smile at the universal language of love.
Our hotel is set upon Lake Kivu. It is so utterly beautiful here that it is hard to remember that the backdrop upon which this country is set, is a very dark one. Only 2 days ago, and approximately 40 miles north of where we are, a thousand people or so have been displaced, a few killed and their homes burned to the ground. We are invited to the IMC guest house for dinner with Fernand, a west African, whose work in humanitarian services has been so fantastic that he is now head of all of the IMC programs in North Kivu. He is immediately so warm and affectionate towards us? hugs and smiles, peanuts, Pringles and beautiful South African wine and then we sit down for dinner.
Fernand is away from his wife and three boys. He has been here for 2 weeks now and I asked him how it was going. He said that he and his wife ate together and that was their ritual, that they would sit down and eat no matter what, and that since he?s been away it?s been hard to find an appetite. It was such a simple insight, but so moving. It spoke volumes to me and made me think about the differences in our cultures, and just how much we could learn if we could step out of the arrogance which sometimes seems to consume us in the west.
It was a wonderful evening? chicken and chips, beef, peas? the peanuts we ate were still warm from roasting all day in the heat of the sun. Martin told us war stories (I proceeded to have the most dramatic and violent dreams!) and he played us a song by Baz Luhrman around the table which I haven?t heard for years and is packed with invaluable advice?it?s called ?Sunscreen?? look it up and listen! We finally went to bed. I could hear people jumping into the lake and swimming under the stars and ironically I felt peaceful.

Look, I have no problem with any celebrity wanting to use their time and resources to raise awareness of some vital issue. My motto is ?Every little bit helps.? That being said, I appreciate it when a charitable celebrity comes into these kinds of ?awareness-raising? trips with some humility, education and authenticity. I was prepared to defend Sienna with her ?every little bit helping? sort of trip, but this just reads like she’s blogging about her vacation. She?s staying at luxury hotels! She?s drinking wine and writing lines like ?I smile at the universal language of love? (barf) and ?the only reminder of genocide on our four-hour drive…? If it?s her vacation, so be it. But don?t call it an ?awareness-raising trip?. The only thing being raised is Sienna?s wine glass.

People Magazine is known as the go-to celebrity mouthpiece. Whenever a celebrity wants to get out an official version of a story, they go to the gold standard, People. Not that People Magazine doesn?t occasionally take sides - they memorably took sides against Balthazar Getty and Sienna Miller by posting several stories that seemed to have been written by Balthazar?s estranged wife Rosetta Getty. They also beat up on Madonna during her divorce to Guy Ritchie. But for the most part, People does try to stay firmly ensconced within the derrieres of celebrities.
This People story ?Brad and Angelina: Fact or Fiction? reeks of Angelina calling up an editor and saying ?Hey, can you refute some of this crap? Okay, thanks!? They run down several of the rumors (but not all) that have been surrounding Brangelina the past couple of months. They?ve got the liquid diet rumor, the adoption and pregnancy rumors and, just for fun, the rumors about all of those Long Island sightings.
The Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie rumor mill has been churning overtime lately. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the stories making the rounds ? and whether they’re fact or fiction:
Liquid Diet? Rumor: Angelina is on a liquid diet that has caused her to shed so much weight that she recently passed out on a film set. Truth: “Angie is very happy and healthy,” says a source close to the actress. False
Adopting again? Rumor: Angelina and Brad are adding to their family, this time adopting in the Philippines. Truth: Another non-starter, fresh on the heels of erroneous reports the couple were adopting in India. False
Pregnant? Rumor: Brad and Angelina are expecting another child. Truth: Their twins, Viv and Knox don’t turn 1 until July. False
Suburban Sprawl? Rumor: Now living on New York’s Long Island, the glamour couple now frequent such places as Dunkin’ Donuts. Truth: Yep, they’re living a quiet life these days and were recently spotted grocery shopping at Stop & Shop. True

Sienna Miller?s performance in The Mysteries of Pittsburgh is so bad, critics are making fun of her mustache. That is bad. New York Post film critic Lou Lemenick declared the film terrible, saying in his review ?You know a movie’s got problem when the most memorable thing about it is Sienna Miller’s moustache…That growth above her lip is clearly visible in two scenes, once in profile.?
Not to defend Sienna, but it sounds like more of a lighting problem. But it speaks volumes about her performance that film critics were so utterly bored, they were pointing out lighting and grooming problems. The British papers have picked up on the criticism, and they?re basically declaring an end to Sienna?s career.
After a series of box office flops Sienna Miller’s career is badly in need of a hit.
But according to critics her latest film is so bad that most interesting thing in it is the star’s moustache.
The Mysteries of Pittsburgh opened in the U.S. this week to damning reviews.
New York post critic Lou Lemenick wrote: ‘You know a movie’s got problem when the most memorable thing about it is Sienna Miller’s moustache.?
‘That growth above her lip is clearly visible in two scenes, once in profile.’
The film, directed by Dodgeball’s Rawson Marshall Thurber, premiered at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in New York on Tuesday. Sienna, 27, attended the premiere alongside co-stars Peter Sarsgaard, Jon Foster, Nick Nolte and Mena Suvari.
It is a coming-of-age drama based on a novel by Michael Chabon, set against the backdrop of 1980s Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The New York Times called the film ‘a clumsy and confused adaptation’ and said ‘just what accent Ms. Miller is attempting is hard to guess’.
Sienna did not endear herself to the American public when she described the city of Pittsburgh, where she was filming, as ‘S**tsburgh’ after being refused entry into a bar.
Angry residents hit back at the actress with a range of anti-Miller merchandise including T-shirts, aprons, mugs, pillows and coasters.
The novelty items are in the Pittsburgh colours of black, white and yellow - and showed a giant finger pointing Sienna in the direction of the UK, saying ‘Give Sienna The Finger. London’s That Way.’
Another range had ‘Team Pittsburgh Say Sienna Go Home’ emblazoned on them.
Sienna later apologised for her comment.

Excuse me while I chuckle to myself. Sienna was never going to be the next Meryl Streep, but at one point she had a promising career. So what damaged it? Besides the badly-lit moustache, that is. Was it her party girl image - has Sienna become something like the British Tara Reid? Think about it - Tara Reid was once a promising, young, blonde actress too. Or did Sienna take a ricochet hit from the Jude Law-nannygate scandal? I actually doubt that one. Most likely, her career took the biggest hit when she took up with the married Balthazar Getty in such a public way. Or maybe it really is the moustache.

Back in January, Sienna Miller left the Ridley Scott production of Nottingham, a retelling of the Robin Hood story with Russell Crowe as the lead. When Sienna left, a ?source? (a.k.a. Sienna?s publicist) spun the story to Page Six as this: ?It is a mess. Russell never lost the weight he put on for Body of Evidence - and so the love scenes between him and Sienna would have been laughable. He?s so old and fat and she?s so young and gorgeous. It?s just . . . gross… Producers are now looking for an older, plumper actress to play the role so [Crowe] doesn?t look like a paunchy grandpa. Someone in her late 30s or early 40s.?
After that, everything just turned into a mess. Accusations went back and forth between the camps of Russell Crowe, Ridley Scott, Sienna Miller, and the producers of Nottingham. The general consensus (in my mind) was that Sienna Miller had to find some way to explain why she had been pushed out of the Maid Marian role. The role ended up going to Cate Blanchett, so that was a plus.
Sienna is still defending herself. She?s given a new interview where she tries to explain what really happened. She actually does it without calling Russell ?old and fat?, so that?s nice. But she does allude to her youth, saying ?The script has been evolving and changing and it often happens in films… they needed someone who was older. There’s a husband who has been away at war for 10 years and he comes back, so it’s just not feasible for me to play her. Cate Blanchett is doing it.? Because God knows, Sienna couldn?t just put on some make-up and act like she was 10 years older. Of course not.
Sienna Miller claims she was dropped from her role as Maid Marian in new movie The Sheriff of Nottingham because she’s too young.
Miller, 27, had been attached to the new Ridley Scott movie for over a year.
But the Factory Girl star is adamant nothing could be done to make her appear older after bosses opted for Australian Cate Blanchett, 39, to play the part instead.
She explains, “The script has been evolving and changing and it often happens in films. They’ve been trying to make this for a couple of years and they rewrote the script and they needed someone who was older.
“There’s a husband who has been away at war for 10 years and he comes back, so it’s just not feasible for me to play her. Cate Blanchett is doing it.?
“The media doesn’t have to make quite as much a meal of it as they do when it happens to me. I’m sure it will be a wonderful project but this is not an absolutely shocking thing to happen in the movie industry when scripts evolve and casts change.?
“Other people have changed in that cast, but the media just won?t document it. I would obviously love to work with Ridley and still I hope to in the future.”

A more diplomatic route, I?ll admit. But I doubt if she?ll ever get the chance to work with Russell Crowe or Ridley Scott again. I?ve said it before, and I?ll say it again - how did Sienna get cast in Nottingham in the first place? Cate Blanchett should have been the first choice, not Sienna?s last-minute replacement.

Watch out New Yorkers… Sienna Miller is coming. Lock up your husbands and hide the liquor. Sienna?s going to be living in New York starting in August, as she rehearses for her Broadway debut in After Miss Julie, a play by Patrick Marber. The play opens in September. Sienna says she?s ?scared? about her debut. I?m sure she?ll drown her fears in topless photo-ops and cocktails, so no worries.
Sienna talked to Reuters about After Miss Julie, and her role in The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, which opens in limited release this Friday. Mysteries is the film she did with Peter Sarsgaard (swoon) in 2006, and at the time, she famously gave an interview complaining about having to work in ?Sh-tsburgh?. And just think, a mere three years later, the film is finally getting a release. Way to go, Sienna.
Actress Sienna Miller is scared about making her Broadway debut in October but said on Tuesday that treading the boards on the Great White Way is something she has always dreamed about. [Miller] will appear in the American premiere of Patrick Marber’s play “After Miss Julie,” which opens on Broadway on October 22 after a 2003 run at London’s Donmar Warehouse.
“I’m scared obviously but really excited,” Miller told Reuters in a joint interview with actor Peter Sarsgaard to promote their new movie “The Mysteries of Pittsburgh.” “Patrick Marber is, I think, one of the most fantastic writers.”
Miller’s role is Miss Julie in Marber’s version of August Strindberg’s 1888 play about sex and class that sets it in an English country house on the eve of the Labor Party’s historic landslide election in 1945.
“If you want to be an actress you think about opening on Broadway,” said Miller, who begins rehearsals on August 20 and starts preview performances on September 18.
The 27-year-old actress, who attracts as much attention for her style and love life as she does her performances, has already debuted in London’s West End, starring in Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” in 2005.
Sarsgaard, who made his Broadway debut late last year in “The Seagull,” offered Miller some advice — get a masseuse to come to her dressing room between the twice weekly matinee and evening performances.
“That’s good advice, I will have to take that on board,” Miller laughed, adding she used to have reflexology in London to help her cope with performing eight times a week.
Miller and Sarsgaard’s “The Mysteries of Pittsburgh,” based on Pulitzer Prize winning author Michael Chabon’s novel of the same name, opens in major U.S. cities on Friday.

Michael Chabon is one of the best American writers working today, and it sucks that a film adaptation of his Pulitizer Prize winning book not only stars Sienna Miller, but that she thinks she?s so utterly above it. The first film adaptation of a Chabon novel was Wonder Boys, which is one of my all-time favorite films. Everyone, every single actor gives a beautiful performance in that film, from Robert Downey Jr. to Frances McDormand to Rip Torn. Even a pre-Xenu Katie Holmes makes an appearance, and she?s lovely.

Rhys Ifans has remained remarkably classy about his split with Sienna Miller last year. She left him abruptly and took up with the very married Balthazar Getty. While Getty?s wife Rosetta has had all of her public relations resources working overtime to bash the illicit couple, Rhys took the high road and never really spoke about his version of the split.
Now that he’s out promoting his new film The Boat That Rocked (which has Bill Nighy and Phillip Seymour Hoffman in it, meow!), Rhys has already given a couple of interviews in which he alluded to the split but never came out and said anything about Sienna.
However, The Daily Mail caught up with him at the London premiere Monday night and got him to say ?’[The paparazzi] don’t bother me anymore now though, it’s all about who you’re shagging and I don’t do that anymore… I learnt my lesson there, didn’t I? I won’t make that mistake again.?
Rhys Ifans has been off the radar lately - and that’s just the way he wants it.
The actor and hellraiser has revealed he’s had enough of famous girlfriends after ‘learning his lesson’ when he split up with Sienna Miller last summer.
Rhys, 40, was speaking at the Leicester Square premiere of his new movie The Boat That Rocked, set aboard a pirate radio ship in the swinging Sixties.
The gruff Welshman said he was sick of the attention from photographers during his relationship with Sienna, and added: ‘I had a harpoon on board the boat ready for when the paps tried to spy on us.
‘I would have loved to drown a few of them.?
‘They don’t bother me anymore now though, it’s all about who you’re shagging and I don’t do that anymore… I learnt my lesson there, didn’t I? I won’t make that mistake again.’

I really think Rhys meant the ?I learnt my lesson? comment in a general way, like he learned his lesson not to date a woman who is catnip to tabloids. It didn?t seem to me like he was trying to bash Sienna, he was just making a general comment about how he doesn?t like a lot of attention focused on his personal life.
In interviews, Rhys has always seemed like a really sweet, thoughtful guy, and I bet he was a good boyfriend. He?s really won me over with his classy behavior. Team Ifans.

It looks like we?re going to be seeing a lot more of Sienna Miller the next couple of months. Several of her films are coming out around the same time, so hopefully we?ll be enlightened by more interviews in which Sienna whines about ?the sisterhood? hating her.
Among her latest films are The Edge of Love, where Sienna co-stars with Keira Knightley. According to Coming Soon, Knightley plays Vera Phillips, ?the childhood sweetheart of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, played by Matthew Rhys, the two of them reunited in war-torn London causing acrimony with his wife Caitlin (Sienna Miller) and her prospective suitor, soldier William Killick (Cillian Murphy). As the four of them move to the Welsh countryside to escape the war, the two women become entangled in an acrimonious friendship until Dylan tries to rekindle his earlier romance with Vera.?
Sienna and Keira became friends while filming, and have maintained the friendship after shooting wrapped. Sienna tells Parade (quotes via The Press Association) that she and Keira keep each other strong - especially when it comes to the urge to Google themselves:
Sienna Miller has revealed she leans on her good friend Keira Knightley in times of stress.
“I think we keep ourselves afloat,” she tells Parade.com.
“If things happen in the press that are hard to deal with or you give in to that awful temptation to occasionally Google yourself and be mortified at what people can write about you. It’s hard to ignore it. Keira will phone me up. She’s like, ‘I’m thinking about doing it.’ I’m like, ‘I am, too, but don’t do it.’ And we’ll kind of talk each other out of it.”
The British actresses became close when they starred with each other in Dylan Thomas film The Edge of Love.
“We talk about what you talk about with any girlfriend, just what’s going on in your life,” says Sienna.
“She gives me good advice and hopefully vice versa.”

Sienna has also been hitting the promotional circuit for G.I. Joe, although the rumor was that her part was edited down because audiences didn?t (and still don?t) care for Sienna. This is such a non-story, but it has me giggling all the same. Sienna Miller got into a war with a horse, and the horse won. When she appeared on Jay Leno?s ?Tonight Show? last night, Sienna revealed that when she was a child, a horse kicked her in the head. I?m biting my tongue, trying not to say ?this explains everything?.
No, it?s serious. The horse-thwacking left Sienna with a miniscule red scar on her cheek. The horror! And now make-up artists have to cover the scar. And, by the way, the horse?s name was Rosetta Getty. Just kidding!
She is renowned for her fresh-faced looks and model complexion but things could have been very different for Sienna Miller. The bohemian beauty has revealed she was kicked in the face - by a horse - in a childhood accident that left a permanent scar on her cheek.
Showing off the mark in a U.S. television appearance of Jay Leno’s the Tonight Show last night, she said: ‘I’ve had some accidents. I got kicked in the face by a horse. Only I would be kicked in the face by a horse.’
Pointing to her left cheek, she added: ‘Look, there’s the scar. Can you see?’
But the 27-year-old blonde had a lucky escape, claiming the barely-there reminder is often mistaken for a lipstick mark. She said: ‘People always think it’s lipstick, especially make-up artists. Maybe they’ve covered it up. I’m hoping you can’t see it. Make-up artists come and try and rub it off and there’s always an awkward moment.’
But the traumatic event has clearly not had a damaging effect on the Factory Girl, who made light of the memory with the Tonight show host. Leno joked: ‘You can still read the name of the horseshoe company.’

I?ve never been kicked in the head by a horse, obviously, because if I did I would be in Hollywood. Rimshot! But I do have one childhood experience that relates. I had a friend whose family was really into horses. When I was like seven years old, the dad put me on a horse, and I broke out in an immediate and terrible rash from whatever it was about the horse. Not as dramatic as being kicked, but a trauma all the same.

The 27-year-old claims that ?things are wobbling? on her body, that she has wrinkles, that she worries about her aging. But at the end of the day, Sienna says ?f–k it? and claims she can?t wait to ?be seen as a woman?.
It seems like Sienna Miller is really trying to get in someone?s good graces, but it just feels like the condescending thin girl complaining about her weight to her friend with weight issues. Sienna?s like ?No really, I worry about my appearance, too, I?m just like you!? as she faces down an angry mob of Balthazar Getty?s wife?s friends. Who are wielding pitchforks. Now Magazine has more:

Sienna is right about how younger women are going in for ?procedures?, whether it?s actually plastic surgery or just Botox injections or fillers. It?s a disturbing trend, and one that I hope dies out. If Sienna is really worried about her appearance and aging and going ?wobbly?, I have a suggestion. Heavy drinkers look worse and age faster than non-drinkers or moderate drinkers. Perhaps Sienna should just spend fewer nights drunkenly trolling for married men?
By the way, it was made official last week - according to multiple sources, Cate Blanchett is really going to take over the Maid Marian role in Ridley Scott?s Nottingham. This is the role that Sienna Miller tried to say she was ?too thin? and ?too young? to play against Russell Crowe?s Robin Hood.
