The ESPYs were a surprisingly big deal this year. I thought the significance, gossip-wise, was just going to be about Caitlyn Jenner, but many celebrities came out to support their favorite athletes, and athletes have never been more gossip-friendly. Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams came out to the ESPYs seemingly ?together?. I have no idea what this means, other than they?re promoting Southpaw and they are quite friendly in real life. Friends with benefits? Quietly dating? I have no idea. Last we heard, she was doing something with Taylor Kitsch, although Rachel gave a weird non-denial denial about the Kitsch rumors recently. Rachel?s sexy red suit is by Cristiano Burani. I?m not crazy about her whole look ? her hair is too light and the suit might be the wrong color ? but she looks very pretty, as always.

Danica Patrick in Matthew Williamson. It sort of impresses me that Danica would go for a designer like Williamson, who is best known for making dresses for British hipsters. That being said, this doesn?t even look like one of Williamson?s dresses. It?s so mullet-y!
Lindsey Vonn in a slinky red dress ? she came close to a wardrobe malfunction because the slit was much too high. Still, she looked great and Twitter was full of ?this dress is an F-U to Tiger Woods? comments.

This is one of the weirder casting rumors of the year. In fact, it?s right up there with the rumor/almost confirmation that Tilda Swinton would be joining Benedict Cumberbatch in Doctor Strange. And now another ?Seriously?? casting call for Doctor Strange: Rachel McAdams. Sure. Since I?m not a comic book person nor a Marvel nerd, I didn?t know that Doctor Strange has some kind of love interest or important lady in his life who also happens to be very attractive. But he does. Maybe. And rumors are swirling that Rachel will be joining the cast with our Benedict Cumberbatch. Hm?
Doctor Strange already boasts an impressive cast that includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor, but Marvel isn?t ready to stop there. In addition to those three Oscar-nominees (with Swinton winning for her role in Michael Clayton), they have also reportedly offered Rachel McAdams a role in the upcoming superhero film.
McAdams, currently starring in Season 2 of True Detective, would play the film?s female lead, according to Heroic Hollywood. Who that character would be is unclear, but assuming it?s a love interest, it could be either Morgana Blessing or Clea. Blessing is a writer who lives in Soho, not far from Strange?s office, and is a writer specializing in the occult. She asked Strange to participate in research for her new book and they fell in love. Clea is the daughter of Prince Orini of the Dark Dimension and has aided Strange in many battles against Dormammu (who is actually her half-brother).
Currently, Cumberbatch has been cast as Dr. Stephen Strange, Swinton as The Ancient One and Ejiofor as Baron Mordo. McAdams?s casting would be the last of the major roles as Doctor Strange ramps up to begin filming in London later this fall.

I think? this might make me happy. Rachel has either avoided the comic book movies for years or she simply wasn?t considered for those roles, but if she?s going to finally try her hand at something like this, she might as well do it with Marvel and with this cast. I?ve been trying to picture Rachel and Benedict together in some kind of flirtatious or romantic situations? and nothing is really coming to me. But maybe it would work. Mostly I?m just grateful that Marvel is perhaps considering hiring a 36-year-old woman to be the love interest of a soon-to-be 39 year old man. It could be much worse, you know? The worst case scenario would have involved, like, Alicia Vikander.

SPOILERS for True Detective
I?m probably going to be sticking with True Detective for a while longer, because I want to see how last Sunday?s cliffhanger plays out. I?ve watched the GIF of the ?blood? spurting out of Colin Farrell?s abdominal gunshot wound several times, so it?s going to be interesting if they just have him walking around like nothing happened after a few days in the hospital. Another reason why I?m sticking with TD? Because I?m sort of enjoying Rachel McAdams and Colin?s scenes together. They do have chemistry, and I always sort of believed the rumors that Colin and Rachel might be hittin? in real life. But now Us Weekly/Daily Mail says that Rachel is actually just starting up with Taylor Kitsch! Boooooo.
They star together on crime drama True Detective. And no doubt Rachel McAdams was an arresting sight Taylor Kitsch. The two co-stars of the HBO series have reportedly found romance off-screen with each other despite previously already having a friendship before shooting together.
‘It hasn’t been long,’ a source told UsWeekly of the blossoming romance. ‘But it’s serious.’
The two do have a familiarity with one another as they have been ‘friends for years’ a source close to 36-year-old Rachel told the weekly. ‘They grew closer on set.?
Things certainly seem to be going swimmingly as an insider added to UsWeekly added that the pair ‘are really into each other.’
The news comes just weeks after the Canadian actors were spotted enjoying dinner together at West Hollywood hotspot Osteria Mozza on June 2.

Some people really wanted Rachel with Jake Gyllenhaal, but to me? Jake is so neutered. It?s not that he?s un-sexy, it?s that he?s asexual. I want Rachel with someone who will really rock her world. Is Taylor Kitsch that guy? I don?t know. But it?s cute that she?s dating another Canadian and Taylor is probably better ?boyfriend material? than Colin. Still? Colin and Rachel together? It would have been a hot, beautiful mess. Last thing: I find Kitsch?s True Detective character to be the most boring. So far, Paul hasn?t brought anything to the table but homophobia and squints.

I think Rachel McAdams is SO pretty, but I?m not feeling this Marie Claire editorial for the June issue. My biggest problem might be Rachel?s attempt at some kind of ombre hair. She doesn?t necessarily have to go back to red (although she was beautiful as a redhead), but I?m really tired of that half-fried-blonde look. Anyway, Rachel covers Marie Claire to promote Aloha (the Cameron Crowe movie with Emma Stone and Bradley Cooper), plus True Detective. I?m really looking forward to True Detective and I have high hopes that Rachel will break the series out of a ?white dudes with issues? rut. Some highlights from the interview:
On her role in True Detective as Detective Ani Bezzerides: ?I love the exploration of someone who has such a different background from you. That exploration runs to compassion, and to cracking yourself open and creating more understanding of how weird and amazing life is.?
On her character in True Detective: ?I love that she?s not the girlfriend or the wife? She doesn?t really care what everyone thinks; she feels no responsibility for other people?s feelings. She?s not trying to be charming, which isn?t always the case with a leading lady. There?s [usually] sort of a responsibility to be a little bit likeable? Not that you want to be a horrendous character, just a little more human.?
On calling time-out after the Mean Girls-Notebook-Wedding Crashers trifecta: ?I had to kind of reassess and go, What did I want this [success] to be, and how did I expect it to look??
On prepping with the Ventura County Police Department and the LAPD for True Detective: “I don’t know how they do it every day. I was like, ‘I’m going to get a hash brown from McDonald’s and go to bed.’”
On the type of characters she likes to play: “I prefer to be a villainess. There’s something a bit more delicious about their wickedness.”

I think she?s right about women feeling like they have to play ?likeable? characters. And to be fair, many male actors feel the same way. I wonder if people are going to have a problem with Rachel playing a harder woman, a woman who isn?t sunshine and romance? Rachel could have positioned herself as the next big ?sweetheart,? the go-to rom-com girl, but I wonder if she was really interested in that. She seems to be more interested in doing character work, or maybe that?s what she?s told herself after her career faltered for several years. Anyway? I still believe in her and want her to do good work. Here?s hoping!

Rachel McAdams is allegedly ?caught? between two men. There has been widespread speculation that Rachel and Jake Gyllenhaal got friendly and continue to get friendly following their work together in Southpaw. They were recently seen having a meal together, which I guess means they?re hittin? it. Except? Rachel is still working on True Detective Season 2. With Colin Farrell.
Sources tell Star Magazine that Rachel McAdams is also fallin? for Colin Farrell, 38.
?Rachel and Colin definitely have chemistry ? everyone on set has noticed.? Says the source. ?She?s a little wary of his past with women. He was quite the playboy, so she worries about taking the relationship to the next level.
And as for Jake Gyllenhaal?
?He?d love to be exclusive with Rachel but hasn?t because he?s not sure the feeling is mutual,? says one of his confidantes.

If it was me? I would pick a fling or a relationship with Colin Farrell over anything with Jake Gyllenhaal. I?m sorry, but Jake still has some kind of residual taint on him after the Taylor Swift episode several years ago. I know he?s dated other ladies since then, but all I can see when I look at him is the goofy, twee, cuddlefest-happy thing with Swifty.
As for Colin? yes, he used to be a bad boy. Yes, I think he still has some issues when it comes to women and relationships. But? I think his priority these days is fatherhood. He told The Sunday Times this weekend: ?I have not dated for, ooh, four years now. It’s just not happening, what with the work, the kids and my life. I know it’s not what people expect to hear, but that’s the honest truth.” The Sony Hack revealed some documentation to back this up ? apparently, Colin has said no to several high-profile projects just because it would mean that he would have to be away from his sons for months at a time. So what does that mean for a potential relationship with Rachel? Hm?

Above is a photo of Rachel McAdams at the airport in LA this weekend. If you didn’t tell me this was Rachel McAdams, I would have no idea who this was. That’s because she’s switched up her shoulder length blonde hair to that longish bob that’s all the rage now, along with dyeing it ombre with light tips. Below is what Rachel looked like in October at Canada’s Walk of Fame Awards. (Check out the gallery for a photo of her with a lady mountie!) She may be growing her hair out and showing the roots, but there are also photos of her as a blonde in November so I think she dyed it.
This isn’t the first time Rachel has sported dip-dyed hair. Remember the Pink tips she had back when she was with Ryan Gosling? I always think of her with Pink hair when I remember the two of them together. I mean I saw The Notebook, but this is the image that comes to mind, not that iconic “kissing in the rain” picture. This photo is from January, 2007. Memories.
Rachel switches up her hair often. She had red hair earlier this year and then she went darker blonde before going lighter blonde. Right now all her films are in post-production so she’s trying a more daring look. (She could have this hair for her upcoming role in True Detective, as US Magazine points out.) I’m not too fond of the cut, it looks shaggy, but she just came off a flight. It’s possible she took her extensions out and is trying to grow out her natural hair.
Also she could be trying to go incognito. It probably works most of the time! I think she’s pulling off this look. It’s very European. I wouldn’t have the guts to try this with my hair, I have blonde security blanket hair, but she’s making me want a big tartan scarf.

Sigh? I have some interesting but slightly depressing news. The cast for True Detective Season 2 has been officially confirmed. Colin Farrell is definitely one of the leads, he?ll be playing a ?compromised detective? named Ray Velcoro (otherwise known as Raymond Velcro, one would assume). Vince Vaughn is definitely in there as a career criminal. And Taylor Kitsch is some kind of cop too. But HBO confirmed the two major female parts will be played by? Rachel McAdams and Kelly Reilly.
HBO is officially firming up True Detective’s second-season cast. The network has confirmed Rachel McAdams as the female lead, as well as Black Box alum Kelly Reilly and Friday Night Lights’ Taylor Kitsch in supporting roles. The eight-episode sophomore season, now in production in California, centers on three police officers and a career criminal who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.
Colin Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. Vince Vaughn is set as Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.
McAdams will play Ani Bezzerides, Ventura County sheriff’s detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves. Kitsch is set as Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle officer for the CHP who is running from a difficult past and the sudden glare of a scandal that never happened. Reilly is Jordan, Frank’s wife and a former D-list actress who is a full partner in his enterprises and ambitions.
Season two will be written by Nic Pizzolatto and will be directed by a cadre of helmers ? including Justin Lin ? after the planned departure of Emmy winner Cary Fukunaga. In a cover interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Pizzolatto, who not only writes every episode but is intimately involved with the casting, noted that a move to multiple directors for season two has more to do with being able to move at a faster production pace than anything else.
Despite critical raves almost across the board, particularly impressive for a first-time showrunner, the gritty anthology series failed to deliver on expectations at August’s Emmy awards, where AMC incumbent Breaking Bad proved the night’s big winner. Although Pizzolatto has looked to manage expectations ahead of the show’s sophomore season, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo has said on multiple occasions that the season two scripts that he’s seen are even “more exciting” than those for season one. Production on season two is set to begin later this fall in California.

Well? okay. I mean, this casting announcement doesn?t make me mad. We can always be grateful that Jessica Biel wasn?t cast, you know? But I?m sort of depressed about Rachel McAdams. Rachel could have been? Jessica Chastain, you know? Rachel could have been a major movie star. But there were some bad career decisions and now she?s probably grateful that she gets to do one season of a highly acclaimed HBO show. It could be worse for her, for sure. But it could have been better too. As for Kelly? I?m actually happy about that. She?s been trying to break it into American TV work for a while now, this might be the kickstart she needs. She?s actually a very talented character actress.

And it turns out the ?Sherlock Holmes? starlet has been cast as the female lead in the forthcoming season of HBO?s ?True Detective.?
McAdams will join already-announced cast members Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn, while Taylor Kitsch is rumored to be in negotiations as well.
?True Detective? Season Two is slated to kick off production next month in California under the watchful eye of director Justin Lin.
