Scarlett Johansson is this month?s Playboy interview, and I actually enjoyed it. I didn?t read all of it because, hello, it?s crazy long and I don?t care about Scarlett that much. But I read most of it and skimmed the rest. They must have conducted the interview well before Scarlett and Romain announced their split, because she refers to her ?husband? a few times. Overall though, it seems more like she?s been living as a single mother for a while, and her daughter Rose just stays with her while Romain does whatever. There?s a lot of information in here, most of which I won?t get into, but here are the biggest reveals and highlights (you can read the full piece here):
On the controversy of The Ghost in the Shell and playing a character that could have gone to a Japanese actress: ?Totally. I think the conversation about diversity in Hollywood is an important one and one that we should be having. My character has the unique experience of being a person whose human brain has been put into what was essentially a synthetic robotic body. I guess I always thought the character was a universal one, in the sense that she has no identity, and the heart of this story is her search for an identity. I hope that whatever questions people have about my casting in this film will be answered by actually seeing the movie. It?s hard to say, because you haven?t seen the movie yet, and there?s a part of it that I don?t want to talk about because it?s the turning point of the movie, but I think it answers the question for the audience as to who I am, who I was and what my true identity is, and it has nothing to do with how my character looks or how you see me.
Being able to be vulnerable & humble: ?It?s something Barack Obama has?humility. It?s such a lovely quality. There are a lot of things about him that will be missed, but humility is such an important part of being successful at what you do?.I actually think it will become very apparent that a leader cannot be successful if they don?t have that?if they?re not able to be vulnerable, curious, compassionate, to have that kind of humility. I don?t think you can lead in any field without having those qualities. That?s what makes a leader, I think: the ability to learn from mistakes and to have compassion for your fellow man.
How she feels post-election: ?You know, it?s funny. I had dinner with Woody Allen right after the election, so it was in November. We were both like, ?Okay, the election. That?s our topic before we get deep into what the meaning of life is.? And I said, ?Please don?t tell me you?re one of those people who was like, ?I told you so.? Please don?t tell me that.? And he was like, ?Honestly, I was shocked. I would have thought that he would not have won one state.? And I thought, Okay, well, if Woody felt that way, it makes me feel better about being as ignorant as I was, because I literally?I mean, it was a complete and utter shock.?
Her Election Day experience: ?I had a very strange experience voting. I took my kid with me, and I was like, ?Kid, we got a female president, which is pretty exciting. And it?s Hillary Clinton; that?s also cool, and we?re good.? Then I got on a plane to Hong Kong, which is a 16-hour flight. I had two glasses of wine and passed out. I woke up 10 hours later, and the stewardess was like, ?Excuse me, Miss, would you like to know the election results?? I looked at her and said, ?Well, I know it?s?okay, what? Give me the news. Let me have it. What is it? I think I know it?s Clinton.? And she was like, ?No, it?s actually Trump.? I thought, This is a Twilight Zone episode. I mean, I?m shuttling through the air at 30,000 feet. The whole cabin is dark, my brother is passed out, and I tap him on the shoulder?he was a field organizer for Obama; he?s very political?and I say, ?Hunter, wake up, wake up!? He was like, ?What?? I said, ?Trump won.? He was like, ?Oh, stop it.? God, he got so drunk when we landed in Hong Kong. This morning I was listening to NPR, and I have these moments when it still hits me, the weight of it.
She?s said before that she isn?t sure humans are designed to be monogamous. ?Well, with every gain there?s a loss, right? So that?s a loss. You have to choose a path. I think the idea of marriage is very romantic; it?s a beautiful idea, and the practice of it can be a very beautiful thing. I don?t think it?s natural to be a monogamous person. I might be skewered for that, but I think it?s work. It?s a lot of work. And the fact that it is such work for so many people?for everyone?the fact of that proves that it is not a natural thing. It?s something I have a lot of respect for and have participated in, but I think it definitely goes against some instinct to look beyond.?
On marriage in general. ?I think marriage initially involves a lot of people who have nothing to do with your relationship, because it?s a legally binding contract, and that has a weight to it. Being married is different than not being married, and anybody who tells you that it?s the same is lying. It changes things. I have friends who were together for 10 years and then decided to get married, and I?ll ask them on their wedding day or right after if it?s different, and it always is. It is. It?s a beautiful responsibility, but it?s a responsibility.
[From Playboy]
What do you think about Scarlett?s anti-monogamy talk? The thing is, I don?t think she?s anti-monogamy, I think she?s just trying to be realistic and self-aware? Like, I appreciate that she?s not trying to sell herself as Little Miss Monogamy or Senora Pure Thoughts. She?s had two marriages go down the tubes, for a variety of reasons, and one of those reasons might be that she fools around. She?s not saying people are incapable of being with only one person – she?s saying it?s a lot of work and some/many people fail at it. As for her political talk? the most controversial thing is that she was having dinner with Woody Allen post-election. Ew.

A week ago, we learned that Scarlett Johansson and Romain Dauriac had separated and would likely be headed towards divorce. The news wasn?t some huge bombshell – they didn?t seem to have anything in common, Scarlett didn?t seem happy living in Paris and their whole relationship just seemed like one giant question mark. That being said, no one expected much drama from the split. Hours after People Magazine confirmed their separation, Romain and ScarJo were photographed together at some event, and they looked chummy and happy. So what really went down behind-the-scenes? First off, Us Weekly?s ?insider? dished last week:
?Scarlett initiated splitting up and made the decision,? the insider tells Us, explaining that ?she felt like they didn’t have much in common as far as lifestyle.? Differences aside though, the exes ?have an amicable relationship? and plan to co-parent their 2-year-old daughter, Rose, the insider tells Us. ?She feels blessed to have a daughter,? the source adds.
[From Us Weekly]
Which is pretty much what I assumed anyway – Scarlett was done and she called it quits, but there are no hard feelings and she?ll always care about Romain because they have a daughter together. So what else is there to say? People Mag has a new piece about how ScarJo moves through men:
?Scarlett has a habit of falling for a guy and moving really fast,? a source tells PEOPLE in this week?s issue. ?She has intense relationships,? the insider notes of Johansson.
?I?ve been expecting this for some time,? says a source in Dauriac?s circle. ?Romain and Scarlett never made sense to me. They aren?t equal. There?s always been something wrong with this picture.?
[From People]
Does Scarlett move fast? That quote made me think of her crazy relationship with Sean Penn several years ago. It felt like she was really into him (or really into ham, dealer?s choice) and it was super-intense and passionate and then? it was over. I don’t think it’s so much that Scarlett moves fast as she moves on quickly, you know? I think when she’s done with someone, she’s done and she’s ready for the next guy. So is Scarlett a man-eater or does she just want that reputation?

Scarlett Johansson and her sockless French husband are dunzo. I?m sorry if this news is devastating to anyone, but were there really people out there who thought Scarlett Johansson and Romain Dauriac were going to last the test of time? I suspect those people don?t exist. That being said, even I was a little bit surprised by how quickly this marriage fell apart. Scarlett and Romain started up in late 2012 and they were engaged by the Venice Film Festival the following year, which is where ScarJo debuted her engagement ring. She got pregnant and gave birth to their daughter in 2014, and Scarlett and Romain apparently got married shortly after Scarlett gave birth? Since she?s so secretive, I really don?t know if we ever got confirmation on that, but People Magazine is saying that?s the timeline. Anyway, they?re over and they?ve apparently been over since last summer.
Scarlett Johansson and her French husband, Romain Dauriac, have called it quits, PEOPLE has learned.
?They?ve been separated since the summer,? a source confirms to PEOPLE.
Johansson attended the women?s march in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, where she was seen without her wedding ring. Johansson was first spotted with Dauriac during a lunch date in New York City in October 2012. By the following September, she was sporting a vintage Art Deco style sparkler that indicated the couple?s engagement. The 32-year-old actress and the art collector secretly wed in 2014 shortly after welcoming their daughter, daughter Rose Dorothy.
The two, however, remain business partners: They co-own the popcorn brand Yummy Pop. Johansson and Dauriac were last photographed together in December for the grand opening party of their Yummy Pop popcorn store at the famed Theatre du Gymnase in Paris.

Yes, who will custody of the Parisian popcorn shop with all of those terrible popcorn flavors? Will Romain take custody of the Cheddar popcorn and Scarlett gets the chocolate-covered strawberry-flavored popcorn (vom)? I actually do wonder what they?ll do about that business. I got the feeling that Scarlett just financed it as a way to give Romain?s sister a job. Hm.
As for the rest of it? I doubt there was some huge drama between them. We heard last summer (the summer they split, apparently) that Scarlett was ?miserable? living in Paris, and that she still couldn?t speak French and she wanted to spend more time in America. I also remember some blind items where a lot of people seemed to think that Romain was shady AF. Who knows? But as I said, they?ll probably co-parent Rose and everything will be very mature. And if I know Scarlett, she?ll probably throw herself into some new romance with someone weird in a few months.
Update: ScarJo and Romain were out together last night, seemingly putting on a “united front.” Yeah. I still think they’re over, but they just want to show people that there’s no drama.

The things we do for love! In Scarlett Johansson?s case, what she does for love is ?open a gourmet popcorn shop in France.? ScarJo married her French husband Romain Dauriac a few years back, and they split their time between America and France. I guess Romain?s sister needed a job and Scarlett has been looking for a good popcorn place in Paris, so they decided to go into business together. The shop ? called Yummy Pop ? had a ?soft opening? on Saturday, and these are some photos from the opening.
Scarlett, Romain and Romain?s sister all worked behind the counter for the opening. Scarlett even wore an apron! How quaint. Judging solely from the photos, it doesn?t look like Romain was helping much ? he doesn?t seem to be dealing with the popcorn, nor working the register. He must be ?managing? the ladies. It?s also being said that there will be a ?grand opening? at a later date. Hm?
As we discussed last week, I don?t have a problem with gourmet popcorn in general, although let?s face it: popcorn is one of those things that?s super-easy to make at home. I guess the French don?t have the relationship with popcorn that we do, which is why it sort of pains me that Yummy Pop doesn?t seem to offer a really standard ?light butter and salt? option. No, the Yummy Pop flavors are ?Real Vermont Maple? and ?Strawberries and Cream? and ?Chocolate Covered Strawberries.? Will this be a success? Will real Parisians love American-style gourmet popcorn? Or will it just be popular with tourists?

CB and I rarely fight but when we do, it?s about popcorn. She likes sriracha popcorn and she called my fixation on super-buttery popcorn an ?abomination.? Personally, I think sriracha popcorn sounds like a culinary abortion, but whatever. The reason CB and I were fighting about popcorn this week is because we got a strange promotional email about Scarlett Johansson and her French husband Romain Dauriac. ScarJo and Romain split their time between Paris, New York and LA (presumably). Apparently, ScarJo and Romain have some kind of vanity side-project that involves? popcorn. Gourmet popcorn. Per the press release:
It was announced today that Scarlett Johansson and her husband Romain Dauriac to open their flagship gourmet popcorn shop named Yummy Pop in the heart of the Parisian district of the Marais. This will be their first foray as a family in creating and establishing Yummy Pop as a viable international business venture. The Parisian Yummy Pop store will have a soft opening on Saturday, October 22nd with its doors opening at 11:00 am. There will be a Grand Opening at a later date, to be announced soon.
?It has been a dream of mine and my family for several years to bring our favorite American snack to our favorite European City!? states Scarlett. ?I am so excited to introduce Yummy Pop, a labor of love and Epicurean enthusiasm. My hope is for Yummy Pop to become a Parisian snacking staple and a symbol of friendship between my two most beloved cities, Paris and New York,? elaborates Scarlett.
The favors will change with the seasons, as fresh ingredients become available, vibrant and are in abundance. Some of the popcorn flavors will remain as staples/classics. The current (and future flavors) were created in collaboration with Chef Will Horowitz of Ducks Eater & Harry and Ida?s in New York City. The initial flavors offered are:
Sea Salt and Olive Oil
Real Vermont Cheddar ? Romain?s favorite
Real Vermont Maple ? Rose?s favorite
Strawberries and Cream?Romain?s little sister favorite, manager of Yummy Pop
Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Truffle Parmesan and Sage ? Scarlett?s favorite
Can we all possibly agree that cheddar popcorn is the true abomination? WTF? Granted, my palate isn?t super-sophisticated (my favorite foods are ?Caesar salads? and ?fried chicken?) but seriously? these are the flavors? There?s no standard ?butter popcorn?? WTF is chocolate-covered strawberry popcorn??? How are they not offering a kettle-corn option either? Kettle corn is the best.
Should I even say anything about how random it is that ScarJo?s vanity project is opening up a popcorn store in Paris? Random thy name is ScarJo. It sounds sort of like Scarlett is funding this to financially support some of Romain?s family. Hm?
PS? CB wanted me to include her recipe for sriracha popcorn. You take cup of kernels, place in a paper lunch bag and microwave it for one minute and thirty seconds. Then add olive oil and sriracha.
PPS? that time when Scarlett wore a nightgown to a luncheon.

Here is Scarlett Johansson on the set of Rock That Body in Queens, NYC.
Rock That Body is scheduled for release next June, just before Independence Day. So we?re getting an all-woman summer blockbuster comedy in 2017. And, this October, Sandra Bullock?s female Oceans 8 spinoff goes into production. That movie will be directed by Gary Ross but he co-wrote the script with a woman, Olivia Milch. So they?re pushing, it?s happening, and we need more.

As we discussed a week ago, Scarlett Johansson was named the highest-grossing actress of all time by Box Office Mojo. She?s the only woman in the top-ten list of highest grossing actors, but the list is like fifty people long and other women made the list, just not in the top ten. ScarJo?s success (or the success being attributed to her) mostly comes from the Marvel films and from her voice work on projects like Disney?s The Jungle Book. Anyway, Extra caught up with Scarlett and she had some thoughts about the list and being a working mother in Hollywood:
It?s good to be Scarlett Johansson. The actress, who was just named the highest-grossing actress of all time, also received the Renaissance Award at the Gene Siskel Film Center’s annual gala in Chicago. When ?Extra? caught up with the ?Captain America? star, who looked stunning in a blue Oscar de la Renta dress, she said she was both happy and disappointed about the highest-grossing achievement, as she trailed behind nine actors.
She explained, ?It’s exciting to be the only woman in the category,? while noting, ?it?s disappointing to be the only woman actually, that was a little bit of a surprise to me.?
The 31-year-old also opened up about being a working mom in Hollywood, ?If somebody has the magic recipe for making being a working mom easy, let me know? working moms two thumbs up.?
She loves spending time with her 22-month-old daughter Rose, even when it involves changing dirty diapers. Scarlett said with a smile, ?It’s my absolute greatest joy to change dirty diapers.?
She revealed her technique for getting it done, ?I usually try to have something on hand to be distracting, a toy, a song, never works by the way, my daughter still hates it, she hates it.?
[From Extra]
As I said, Scarlett was not the only woman on the list, she was the only woman in the top ten. Cameron Diaz is #19, HELENA BONHAM CARTER is #26, Cate Blanchett is #29 ? you can see the list here. Basically, you have to be part of some kind of huge franchise (or multiple franchises) to crack the top thirty. So ScarJo is technically incorrect when she says she?s ?the only woman in the category,? but she’s right in a general sense because it’s depressing to see how few women are included in the most financially successful films.
As for changing dirty diapers? better her than me. I wonder if her husband is much help in the diaper department.
