For the life of me, I do not understand why Scarlett Johansson went to Oscar de la Renta?s designers and said ?please make me two beige-y champagne gowns for the Oscars.? I halfway liked her Oscar look, but why did she go for such a similar vibe with her de la Renta party dress? And why that hideous rib tattoo? Why does ScarJo have such budget-looking tattoos in general? We?re never going to get the answers to these questions.

Do you think Scarlett Johansson knew she would lose in both Oscar categories? I think it became clear to her as the awards season progressed, and to her credit, that sort of loosened her up and she looked like she was having a lot of fun. Still, she dressed like she thought she might win something this champagne Oscar de la Renta would have looked great with an Oscar! Alas, it didn?t happen. So instead she just had to fill her hands with her fiance Colin Jost. Also: ScarJo needed more jewelry. Other than her hilariously bad engagement ring!
Florence Pugh in Louis Vuitton. I weirdly loved this, I think because it was so refreshing to see this saturated teal color on the Oscars red carpet. So many women wore white, black, metallics, Pink and beige-champagne, so the few women who went for rich greens and blues really stood out. While I?m no fan of mullet dresses or ruffled tiers, this works, right? I think it?s because Florence is so short, so it?s not like we were staring at five feet of ruffles. Everything looks proportional. The necklace (which is great) is Louis Vuitton Jewelry too.

Scarlett Johansson remains an awards season loser after the Independent Spirit Awards. She even lost Best Actress to Renee Zellweger at the Spirit Awards, which is crazy, I guess, although Judy did look like a somewhat inexpensive film. ScarJo has been taking the losses in stride, perhaps shes even genuinely happy to be invited to the party (this are her first-ever Oscar nominations). So ScarJo is in a good mood, which might explain her hair for years, we?ve been waiting for her to go back to longish blonde hair and here we are. She looks great! The Balmain dress is not great, but whatever. She seems like she was having a nice time.

Am I dumb for loving this Versace gown on Scarlett Johansson? I ask that for so many reasons. One, ScarJo says all of these crazy, offensive things in interviews, from her stanning of Woody Allen to her thoughts about being a Japanese tree, and yet we always ?forgive? her long enough to talk about her fashion. It also feels like I?m being dumb about this because ScarJo?s style has been struggling throughout this awards season, and this GOOD Versace feels like a bait-and-switch, like she?s about to fug it up massively at the Oscars. I feel similarly about Charlize Theron. Ladies, don?t waste your best looks at the BAFTAs! Save ?em for the Oscars. Anyway, yeah? ScarJo is a pill but this dress is great.
Vanessa Kirby in Valentino. This is? a cute cocktail dress, and considering she is best known for playing Princess Margaret on The Crown, entirely appropriate for a ?TV Girl.?
Taika Waititi won for Best Adapted Screenplay and he had the room, honestly. I think Taika might have the room wherever he goes. He?s become the It Dude of Hollywood/the world. He truly stood in front of a mostly British crowd and came very close to calling them colonizers. Bless.

Scarlett Johansson actually wore one of the best dresses of the SAG Awards, in my opinion. I just can?t call my choice for best dressed because she fked it up with the styling, from her too-tight hair to her orange fking lipstick. But Scar?s Armani gown was beautiful fantastic color, great design and you could tell that Scarlett loved it. Too bad her style people hate her though. Anyway, I think it?s a little bit funny that Scarlett was one of the favorites coming into the awards season and she hasn?t won jack sh-t so far. But at least? she?s engaged to Colin Jost. CB joked that they have matching douchefaces and now I can?t unsee it.
Joaquin Phoenix is marching towards that Best Actor Oscar win and I go back and forth on it. Like, was his Joker performance ?good? on a technical, acting level? For sure. But I have such strong, negative feelings about the movie that I just wish Phoenix wasn?t winning everything. At least make it competitive and give Adam Driver something! Anyway, here?s Joaquin. He?s been attending these shows with his sister and not Rooney Mara (although Rooney came to the Globes).

Here are some photos from the LA premiere of Marriage Story. Scarlett Johansson wore Louis Vuitton and Laura Dern wore a bright, hideous Zimmerman gown. Don?t get me wrong, I hate ScarJo?s LV look too. It?s pretty much guaranteed that Scarlett will receive her first-ever Oscar nomination for this film, and it?s painful to me that we can?t even enjoy a good fashion tour from Scarlett as she goes through this Oscar campaign. Check our archives Scarlett?s already worn so many bad gowns and she?s already been styled so poorly. Incidentally, I think Dern will probably grab a Supporting Actress nomination for this film too, at least that?s the buzz. Adam Driver didn?t attend this premiere, but I?m sure he?ll get nominated too.
As for all of the nominations and Oscar campaigns as of this moment, I think Renee Zellweger is the ?early frontrunner? for her Judy Garland drag. Critics fking love Judy and it?s Renee?s big ?comeback.? But I could see Scarlett sneaking in at the last minute, especially if her Oscar campaign goes well. The issue is that every time Scarlett opens her mouth, she says offensive sh-t about Woody Allen or transgender Japanese trees/people. I was checking out Gold Derby to see if there were any other actresses getting buzz right now? there?s Helen Mirren for The Good Liar, Saoirse Ronan for Little Women, Charlize Theron for her Megyn Kelly drag in Bombshell and? who knows. It doesn?t feel like the strongest year for actresses, honestly. So maybe Scarlett could pull it out.
PS? Yes, Scarlett truly wore lucite heels.

Scarlett Johansson is 34 years old and about to get married for the third time. And it?s fine as I?ve said before, I expect that of her. Twenty years from now, she?ll probably have three more marriages under her belt. It?s one of the things I legitimately like about Scarlett: she goes through phases where she?s obsessed with some weird dude, she?ll sometimes marry them, and then after a year or two, it?s on to the next phase/dude. She did ?marry a weird sockless French dude? and that blew up in her face. Now she?s in the ?marry an SNL bro? phase. By 2021, this phase will be over. But for now, we just have to enjoy it, and enjoy the many gushing stories about Colin Jost?s ?romantic? proposal:
Looks like Colin Jost has a few tricks up his sleeve. Scarlett Johansson and the Saturday Night Live funnyman recently got engaged, and the actress told Ellen DeGeneres that Jost ?killed it? when proposing with ?a whole James Bond situation.?
?It was surprising, he?s got a lot behind that news desk he?s hiding,? Johansson said, referring to Jost?s job as Weekend Update host. ?He?s very charming and very thoughtful and romantic. But yeah, I was surprised. Even if you kind of imagine what that moment?s gonna be like, it?s still beautiful moment.?
Johannson, 34, and Jost, 37, became engaged in May after two years of dating. The Avengers: Endgame star debuted her 11-carat engagement ring in July while taking the stage at San Diego Comic-Con for her upcoming Black Widow prequel film. ?It was very personal. It was a special moment,? Johansson added of the proposal. ?I think, more than anything, when someone tells you they want to spend their life with you, that?s a lovely, special thing.?

?He?s got a lot behind that news desk he?s hiding?? Does he though? I?m really asking. Jost has the reputation as a smart guy, but he also has a reputation as a total bro who veers towards sexism. I wouldn?t think he?s capable of planning some James Bond-esque proposal, nor would I have thought that ScarJo would be into that. But, as I said, it?s just a phase. Also: the proposal must have been amazing for Scarlett to say yes to this fugtastic engagement ring.

Here are photos from last night?s premiere of JoJo Rabbit, Taika Waititi?s latest movie. The film was extremely well-received at TIFF, which means there might be low-key Oscar buzz for this. Personally, I think that Scarlett Johansson?s turn in Marriage Story will be the role which gets her an Oscar nomination (it would be her first), but you never know. In any case, ScarJo seems proud of this film and proud to support Waititi.
Scarlett wore a MiuMiu ensemble matching pants and top in a Pink mini-floral. It?s actually really cute? I?ll say something nice about her styling too: this is the best her hair has looked in years, and her makeup here is very fresh and pretty. Something not so nice: photographers got a clear shot of her engagement ring and my God, I?m still shocked at how fug it is. It?s a brown oval-pear diamond with a black band and WOW. Yikes.

Here are some photos of Scarlett Johansson at Sunday night?s TIFF premiere of JoJo Rabbit, the Taika Waititi film which is supposed to be an absurdist/parody of Adolf Hitler (Taika plays a child?s imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler). ScarJo wore this silver Rodarte dress to the premiere. I have to say? the fashion, in general, coming out of TIFF has been underwhelming. Maybe celebrities are saving ?the good stuff? for New York and London premieres, or maybe the designers are just in a rut. I generally find Rodarte stuff to be too overworked, and this is no different this material would have been lovely as a simple slipdress. But no.
Anyway, ScarJo is obviously in TIFF to promote more than JoJo Rabbit. JoJo Rabbit won?t get her an Oscar nomination. She?ll also premiere Marriage Story, which is already being screened by critics and they friggin? love it. We could truly see a 2020 Oscars where Scarlett Johansson is nominated for Best Actress and Jennifer Lopez is nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
It?s also worth noting that ScarJo will probably get nominated across the board even though she?s an ahole who says terrible things constantly, especially when she?s promoting a film. She?s literally going to get an Oscar nomination when, in two big interviews this summer, she claimed she should be ?allowed to play any person or any tree or any animal.? And then she followed that up by once again giving a full-throated defense of Woody Allen. Speaking of, Dylan Farrow chimed in on ScarJo?s THR interview:

We discussed the news last week that Dwayne Johnson was Forbes 2019s highest paid actor. Forbes released their actress list on Friday. And 2019?s highest paid actress is (drum roll, please) Scarlett Johansson. Oh? that?s not that surprising, she was last year?s highest paid actress too. Thanks, Marvel!
Black Widows most lucrative superpower? Her negotiating skills. For the second year in a row, Scarlett Johansson tops Forbes list of the highest-paid actresses, earning $56 million.
That includes a lot of Marvel money, like an eight-figure check for her upcoming Black Widow film and an impressive back-end payment of about $35 million for the $2.8 billion-grossing Avengers: Endgame.
Johansson is joined on the list by newcomers Elisabeth Moss and Margot Robbie, as well as returnees like Sofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon. Together, the worlds ten highest-paid actresses tallied a combined $314.6 million between June 1, 2018, and June 1, 2019, before fees and taxes. Thats 69% more than last years cumulative total, but still far less than the top ten actors $588.3 million.

I was joking on Thursday when I said that the lists were spaced so we didn?t note the discrepancy between the actors? pay and the actresses? but maybe I wasn?t that far off the mark. Almost $275M difference between the two lists? totals. Just for reference, Dwayne made $34M more than ScarJo ? and unlike ScarJo he hasnt expressed his willingness to play a tree. To put it even more in perspective, ScarJo?s numbers would put her at number eight on the men?s list. Behind Adam Sandler (but, funnily, knocking Chris Evans out of his spot). No other woman on the top ten list would rank on the men?s. Technically, Sofia Vergara would tie with Will Smith but ScarJo knocked them both off so no, she?d stand alone. The rest of the top earning women are:

So not only are men making a lot more money, they get to keep making money while the women have to fight for the scraps thrown off the men?s table.
