Black Widow was released on July 9th. That was the day the film premiered in movie theaters around America. Disney which owns Marvel decided to do the pandemic option for Black Widow, meaning that if people wanted to pay the extra $29.99 for Premiere Access on top of their Disney Plus subscription, they could watch Black Widow from the comfort of their homes (or phones, or whatever). While Black Widow premiered at #1 at the box office, the weeks-long box office thus far has been a lot lower than predicted for a Marvel movie with a beloved franchise star. As of this writing, BW has made $157 million domestically and $160 million internationally. No slouch, but Marvel is used to crossing $500 million for any and all movies, and Marvel films regularly cross $600-700 million or more. They were clearly testing out the streaming option, given that there are many people who don?t feel comfortable returning to movie theaters. But! That means that Marvel and Disney were actually in breach of Scarlett Johansson?s contract. And she?s suing them.
Disney?s decision to release ?Black Widow? on Disney Plus at the same time it hit theaters has sparked a legal battle with Scarlett Johansson, the actress tasked with playing the Marvel superhero. In a lawsuit filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court, attorneys for Johansson allege that the star?s contract was breached when the studio opted not to debut the film exclusively in theaters, a move they claim depressed ticket sales for the Avengers spinoff. Much of Johansson?s compensation was tied to the box office performance of ?Black Widow? ? if it hit certain benchmarks, bonuses would kick in.
?Disney intentionally induced Marvel?s breach of the agreement, without justification, in order to prevent Ms. Johansson from realizing the full benefit of her bargain with Marvel,? the suit reads.
Shortly after Black Widow?s debut, the National Association of Theatre Owners, the industry?s main trade organization, asserted the simultaneous release of ?Black Widow? in theaters and on streaming ?costs Disney money in revenue per viewer over the life of the film.? However, the suit notes that Disney?s stock rose after the company disclosed the rental figures.
?Disney chose to placate Wall Street investors and pad its bottom line, rather than allow its subsidiary Marvel to comply with the agreement,? the suit reads. ?To no one?s surprise, Disney?s breach of the Agreement successfully pulled millions of fans away from the theatres and toward its Disney+ streaming service.?
The Wall Street Journal, which broke the news of the lawsuit, reports that sources close to Johansson estimate that the decision to release the film concurrently on Disney Plus resulted in $50 million in lost bonuses?. If successful, Johansson?s suit could embolden more actors to seek additional compensation for films that migrated to streaming services and may lead to agents including stricter language in contracts regarding compensation if an exclusive theatrical release is compromised or bypassed. Johansson?s attorneys suggested that her suit could be a precedent setter.
?It?s no secret that Disney is releasing films like Black Widow directly onto Disney Plus to increase subscribers and thereby boost the company?s stock price ? and that it?s hiding behind Covid-19 as a pretext to do so,? John Berlinski, an attorney for Johansson, said in a statement to Variety. ?But ignoring the contracts of the artists responsible for the success of its films in furtherance of this short-sighted strategy violates their rights and we look forward to proving as much in court. This will surely not be the last case where Hollywood talent stands up to Disney and makes it clear that, whatever the company may pretend, it has a legal obligation to honor its contracts.?
[From Variety]
There?s a lot going on and Scarlett is actually making a good point with her lawsuit, and she?s not thinking of merely her own bottom line. It would be one thing if her sole argument was that she was being cheated out of backend bonuses. Her lawsuit makes the point that Disney not only cheated her out of her backend bonus, they did it to add even more subscribers to Disney?s streaming services. Disney is making money off of her, Disney?s stockholders are making money off of her, so why isn?t she getting paid? It?s a good point.
Included in the lawsuit: emails to and from Scarlett, her management and Marvel where she shared her concerns for months that Marvel and Disney would screw up the theatrical release by releasing the film on their streaming service. She has receipts! And she has a point. A point which is easier for her to make considering she?s completely fulfilled her Marvel contract. Scarlett-as-BW is done, she?s not under contract to make any more movies with the studio. Which makes it easier for her to burn that bridge with this lawsuit, which (make no mistake) is exactly what she?s doing.
Hours after the news of Scarlett?s lawsuit came out, Disney finally released a statement and whew, boy. Disney?s statement: ?There is no merit whatsoever to this filing. The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney has fully complied with Ms. Johansson?s contract and furthermore, the release of ?Black Widow? on Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20 [million] she has received to date.? LMAO, that was so harsh. They really said ScarJo doesnt care about people dying from Covid!!!

Hollywood has been inspiring fashion and beauty for decades. From Mia Farrows pixie cut to Rachel from Friends bob, women follow style and beauty trends set by celebrities. Scarlett Johanssons Black Widow has started a hair trend. According to UK beauty retailer JustMyLook, since Black Widow was released two weeks ago, there has been a 163% increase in demand for red hair dye. Below are a few more details about the summer color trend:
According to the website Justmylook, there has been a 163% spike in demand for the colour since the release of Black Widow, presumably because lots of people sat through two hours and 14 minutes of a film about a woman grappling with the psychological torment of knowing she was part of a Soviet military programme that brainwashed, sterilised and murdered hundreds of abandoned girls, only to think: ?Ooh, I bet I?d look lovely with her hair.?
There?s a great compilation video on YouTube in which Scarlett Johansson suffers through question after insulting question posed to her by journalists about Black Widow?s appearance. Her co-stars are asked about stunts and character motivation, and she is asked what food she had to eat to get in shape. How does it feel to be a sex symbol? What are Black Widow?s key fashion elements? Does she wear knickers under her jumpsuit? Perhaps this latest news, that the main thing audiences are taking from Black Widow is her lovely shiny hair, is an extension of that same trend.
Maybe we need to explore this further. Have people tracked down the brand of makeup Johansson wore in the scene where she falls off a roof and bashes her body into an agonising state of disrepair? Have sales of photogenic yet utterly impractical leather jumpsuits shot up as well, along with a corresponding surge in talcum powder? Are more and more women having their necks surgically dislocated so they can pose for photos while simultaneously displaying their bum, boobs and face like Black Widow did in that first Avengers poster?
[From The Guardian]
The hairstyles in Black Widow were also practical, unlike what we usually see on superhero women. One of my favorite parts of Black Widow was when Yelena, played by Florence Pugh, was teasing Natasha about her hair flip and super hero pose. It really was ridiculous. Hollywood doesnt know how to have a strong female lead without sexualizing her and making her into a love-besotted damsel like Wonder Woman. The Natasha in Black Widow had definitely matured and gotten over herself. She wasnt hyper intent on proving a point or being sexy while kicking ass. Natasha just was. This is why I am excited that women are just now catching scarlet fever and wanting to dye their hair red. This says something about what women find not only attractive but inspiring. I feel Hollywood and in particular Marvel should take note.
I am so happy to see the gingers getting some love. Red hair is one of my favorite hair colors. Especially the deep rich auburn kind. It looks good on many different skin tones and I wish more people would opt for scarlet over blonde. It is awesome to see that red hair is trending in the UK as well. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing all the red heads coming out this summer. I dont care that probably 90% of them will be bottled gingers.

Black Widow is out this week, a fact which I didn?t realize because in my opinion the hype around it has been rather subdued. I attributed that to the pandemic delaying the release of the film, and the fact that Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh had already done a ton of promotional interviews last year, before the film?s release was delayed. But maybe the hype machine has been kind of quiet in recent weeks because the star of Black Widow has been opting out of promotion? because she?s very knocked up!
Scarlett Johansson is pregnant! The Oscar-nominated actress is expecting her first child with husband Colin Jost, multiple sources tell Page Six. One source told us: ?Scarlett is actually due soon, I know she and Colin are thrilled.?
Another insider added: ?Scarlett is pregnant but has been keeping it very quiet. She has been keeping a very low profile.?
The ?Avengers? star, 36, sparked pregnancy rumors in June after skipping out on several ?Black Widow? events.
?She hasn?t been doing many interviews or events to promote ?Black Widow? which is surprising since it is a huge Marvel/Disney release and she is both the star and an executive producer,? our source explained. Instead, she?s been carrying out promotional appearances via Zoom, appearing virtually on the ?Tonight Show? to chat with Jimmy Fallon on June 21 and conspicuously only shot from the shoulders up.
She was also absent from a ?Black Widow? screening in the Hamptons Friday ? attended by her co-star David Harbour and followed by a party at Mariska Hargitay?s home ? even though she and Jost own a home in Montauk, where they?re frequently seen out and about.
A Hamptons source told us: ?Scarlett usually spends a lot of the summer out in Amagansett and Montauk, and you?d often see her walking her dogs on the beach or getting coffee. But this summer it seems like she is deliberately trying to keep a low profile.?
Disney has already thrown ?Black Widow? events in New York, Los Angeles, and London but sans ScarJo. The actress stars in the big-budget flick ? released this weekend after being postponed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic ? as the titular character, a Russian-born spy-turned-Avenger. It?s among a number of movies which Hollywood hopes will revive the box office.
[From Page Six]
I wonder why Scarlett didn?t just announce her pregnancy a month ago and do a few interviews talking about how happy she is to have another baby and what have you? I know, she has the right to privacy and no one should be forced into revealing a pregnancy if they want to keep it quiet, but it feels like Scarlett is trying to be purposefully weird? She and Colin are married, they?ve been together for years, and Scarlett is already a mom to Rose, who turns seven years old later this summer! It?s not like ?being pregnant with your second child? is some big scandal! I wonder if Marvel is a little bit mad that their star is barely doing any promo. Anyway, congrats to Scarlett and Colin. Pregnant with a little bonsai tree!

Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost are married! Good for them, I guess. As I was trying to figure out what I was going to say about this one, I suddenly remembered the engagement ring Colin gave Scarlett when he proposed in May 2019: a brown diamond with a black/brown setting. It was so bad that people were in denial that this was her actual engagement ring and not some borrowed cocktail ring. But no, he really proposed with an egg-shaped brown diamond in a weird setting. I feel certain that Scarlett picked it out herself it was, after all, her third marriage, and she had already done the simple round diamond solitaire (Ryan Reynolds) and the vintage Art Deco ring (Romain). A third marriage is for? something unusual. I guess! Anyway, to throw yourself a Covid wedding is, I imagine, pretty fraught. It sounds like Colin and Scar kept things pretty simple though, and they gave their news to a great charity so the charity could announce it:
Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost have officially said, ?I do.? The couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony over the weekend, the Instagram account for Meals on Wheels America announced on Thursday.
We?re thrilled to break the news that Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost were married over the weekend in an intimate ceremony with their immediate family and [loved] ones, following COVID-19 safety precautions as directed by the CDC. I would imagine they kept the guest list small and I would imagine they did it in the Hamptons. They stay in the Hamptons a lot, and I think they?ve spent much of 2020 there, like many New Yorkers looking to escape the pandemic. And I don?t know? like, ScarJo is an ahole, 100%, but it was a nice move to give away the wedding announcement to Meals on Wheels.

For the life of me, I do not understand why Scarlett Johansson went to Oscar de la Renta?s designers and said ?please make me two beige-y champagne gowns for the Oscars.? I halfway liked her Oscar look, but why did she go for such a similar vibe with her de la Renta party dress? And why that hideous rib tattoo? Why does ScarJo have such budget-looking tattoos in general? We?re never going to get the answers to these questions.

Do you think Scarlett Johansson knew she would lose in both Oscar categories? I think it became clear to her as the awards season progressed, and to her credit, that sort of loosened her up and she looked like she was having a lot of fun. Still, she dressed like she thought she might win something this champagne Oscar de la Renta would have looked great with an Oscar! Alas, it didn?t happen. So instead she just had to fill her hands with her fiance Colin Jost. Also: ScarJo needed more jewelry. Other than her hilariously bad engagement ring!
Florence Pugh in Louis Vuitton. I weirdly loved this, I think because it was so refreshing to see this saturated teal color on the Oscars red carpet. So many women wore white, black, metallics, Pink and beige-champagne, so the few women who went for rich greens and blues really stood out. While I?m no fan of mullet dresses or ruffled tiers, this works, right? I think it?s because Florence is so short, so it?s not like we were staring at five feet of ruffles. Everything looks proportional. The necklace (which is great) is Louis Vuitton Jewelry too.

Scarlett Johansson remains an awards season loser after the Independent Spirit Awards. She even lost Best Actress to Renee Zellweger at the Spirit Awards, which is crazy, I guess, although Judy did look like a somewhat inexpensive film. ScarJo has been taking the losses in stride, perhaps shes even genuinely happy to be invited to the party (this are her first-ever Oscar nominations). So ScarJo is in a good mood, which might explain her hair for years, we?ve been waiting for her to go back to longish blonde hair and here we are. She looks great! The Balmain dress is not great, but whatever. She seems like she was having a nice time.

Am I dumb for loving this Versace gown on Scarlett Johansson? I ask that for so many reasons. One, ScarJo says all of these crazy, offensive things in interviews, from her stanning of Woody Allen to her thoughts about being a Japanese tree, and yet we always ?forgive? her long enough to talk about her fashion. It also feels like I?m being dumb about this because ScarJo?s style has been struggling throughout this awards season, and this GOOD Versace feels like a bait-and-switch, like she?s about to fug it up massively at the Oscars. I feel similarly about Charlize Theron. Ladies, don?t waste your best looks at the BAFTAs! Save ?em for the Oscars. Anyway, yeah? ScarJo is a pill but this dress is great.
Vanessa Kirby in Valentino. This is? a cute cocktail dress, and considering she is best known for playing Princess Margaret on The Crown, entirely appropriate for a ?TV Girl.?
Taika Waititi won for Best Adapted Screenplay and he had the room, honestly. I think Taika might have the room wherever he goes. He?s become the It Dude of Hollywood/the world. He truly stood in front of a mostly British crowd and came very close to calling them colonizers. Bless.

Scarlett Johansson actually wore one of the best dresses of the SAG Awards, in my opinion. I just can?t call my choice for best dressed because she fked it up with the styling, from her too-tight hair to her orange fking lipstick. But Scar?s Armani gown was beautiful fantastic color, great design and you could tell that Scarlett loved it. Too bad her style people hate her though. Anyway, I think it?s a little bit funny that Scarlett was one of the favorites coming into the awards season and she hasn?t won jack sh-t so far. But at least? she?s engaged to Colin Jost. CB joked that they have matching douchefaces and now I can?t unsee it.
Joaquin Phoenix is marching towards that Best Actor Oscar win and I go back and forth on it. Like, was his Joker performance ?good? on a technical, acting level? For sure. But I have such strong, negative feelings about the movie that I just wish Phoenix wasn?t winning everything. At least make it competitive and give Adam Driver something! Anyway, here?s Joaquin. He?s been attending these shows with his sister and not Rooney Mara (although Rooney came to the Globes).

| | Scarlett Johansson in LV at the 'Marriage Story' LA premiere: basic or cute' | | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some photos from the LA premiere of Marriage Story. Scarlett Johansson wore Louis Vuitton and Laura Dern wore a bright, hideous Zimmerman gown. Don?t get me wrong, I hate ScarJo?s LV look too. It?s pretty much guaranteed that Scarlett will receive her first-ever Oscar nomination for this film, and it?s painful to me that we can?t even enjoy a good fashion tour from Scarlett as she goes through this Oscar campaign. Check our archives Scarlett?s already worn so many bad gowns and she?s already been styled so poorly. Incidentally, I think Dern will probably grab a Supporting Actress nomination for this film too, at least that?s the buzz. Adam Driver didn?t attend this premiere, but I?m sure he?ll get nominated too.
As for all of the nominations and Oscar campaigns as of this moment, I think Renee Zellweger is the ?early frontrunner? for her Judy Garland drag. Critics fking love Judy and it?s Renee?s big ?comeback.? But I could see Scarlett sneaking in at the last minute, especially if her Oscar campaign goes well. The issue is that every time Scarlett opens her mouth, she says offensive sh-t about Woody Allen or transgender Japanese trees/people. I was checking out Gold Derby to see if there were any other actresses getting buzz right now? there?s Helen Mirren for The Good Liar, Saoirse Ronan for Little Women, Charlize Theron for her Megyn Kelly drag in Bombshell and? who knows. It doesn?t feel like the strongest year for actresses, honestly. So maybe Scarlett could pull it out.
PS? Yes, Scarlett truly wore lucite heels.
