I love these pictures so much. Over the weekend I went to my 20th high school reunion and it was a blast. It was just so much fun that I want to go to reunions for just about everything I was ever involved with. Even the people I barely remembered were awesome after 20 years. So that’s what these photos of some of the castmembers of one of the ultimate guy movies (for my generation), 1998’s Big Lebowski, remind me of.
I was so enthralled by the awesome camaraderie of the cast members that were there that I almost overlooked Julianne Moore’s giant bow dress. That Jason Wu dress is ridiculous and reminds me of a clown bow tie, but like the beaming child in this novelty tie, Julianne is just so thrilled that I almost didn’t notice how ridiculous she looked.
As far as the other castmembers, I’m so happy to see The Dude Jeff Bridges, who currently has an album out, his first called Be Here Soon, with which he collaborated with T. Bone Burnett! Bridges says that people who say the album is of “Bad Blake” songs (his character in Crazy Heart), are “50% correct” and that some of the songs were meant for Crazy Heart but couldn’t make it into the movie. T-Bone Burnett also oversaw music for Big Lebowski, and he’s the tall guy in some of the group photos here. You can watch Jeff perform on the Today Show here. He’s so awesome.
Noticeably absent were Steve Buscemi, Isabella Rosselini, and (maybe) Tara Reid, although Reid was in it for a hot second, am I wrong?
This picture of John Goodman hugging Jeff Bridges is amazing.
I don’t know how I feel about Moore’s shoes.

Julianne Moore is the cover girl for the May issue of InStyle UK. At first I thought this was a completely new piece, but I just discovered that it’s just the UK edition of a recent American InStyle cover shoot and interview. Still, we haven’t covered it before, so enjoy. The interview was conducted by Tom Ford! Surprisingly, the excerpts aren?t that juicy. I think Tom might identify Julianne with his mother (something I read when they were promoting A Single Man), so perhaps that?s why there are no dirty revelations or stories. Or maybe Julianne just isn?t a dirty person. The photos are quite beautiful, aren?t they? Julianne is 50 years old, bitches. We should all be so lucky to look this awesome. Here are some highlights from the interview:
Julianne Moore has made more than 50 films, clocked up four Oscar nominations, posed nude for Bulgari and found time to write a few children’s books. And she’s a dab hand at modelling too. The 50-year-old actress looks seductive and amazingly youthful in a new photo shoot for the May issue of InStyle.
The actress is interviewed by fashion icon Tom Ford in the magazine where they talk about fashion, ageing gracefully and why they both love this season’s Seventies trend. The mother-of-two shared her beauty secrets and how she keeps her skin looking so soft and wrinkle-free.
‘I say this to every young person I know,’ Moore shared. ‘Stay out of the sun! I have very fair skin and it would have been super-damaged. I always wear sunscreen and I walk on the shady side of the street.’
When asked at what point does she feel her sexiest Moore laughed: ‘I think you need to be away from your children. Doing the mummy stuff does sort of squash that area of your life… I can feel that way when I’m alone with Bart or when we take a trip. But the day-to-day of picking up kids and going to the eye doctor and then dropping them off at basketball and then going to the middle school concert, that stuff doesn’t make you feel very sexy! That was my day yesterday.?
Moore also spoke about which decade of fashion she loves and loathes.
‘I don’t like Fifties clothes. I wear them in movies, or they appear on the runway, ladylike waists and all that. I’m like, “No!” I hate them on me, because I have no waist. I go straight up and down. So in my lifetime, I’d have to say the Seventies [are her favourite era]‘.
She also claims to favour clogs and Birkenstocks over Manolo Blahniks and Christian Louboutins.
The Hours star also dished about her favourite comfort food, which going by her great figure, was obviously not going to be anything too fattening.
‘Dover sole and French fries,’ Moore said of the food she loves to indulge in. ‘It’s really boring, but I’ll be in hotels where I’ll eat that every night. And ice cream’.
Julianne has been fortunate enough to star on the big screen with some gorgeous leading men.
Of Mark Ruffalo who she starred in with Blindness in 2008 and his Oscar-nominated turn in The Kids Are Alright last year, Moore said: ‘He’s warm, quick and easy to connect with. He’s an emotional guy. It’s all right there in front of you. I love that about him.’
And she loves her British actors including Colin Firth who she said is ‘like diving into a pool of words and fun with him’. She starred with him in A Single Man in 2009. She also said Clive Owen, who she starred in with Children of Men in 2006 has her constantly laughing.
Julianne’s latest role will be starring as Sarah Palin in an upcoming film. But she has not exactly received a ringing endorsement from the former governor of Alaska. The one-time US vice presidential candidate shared her views about the film Game Change saying: ‘I think I’ll just grit my teeth and bear whatever comes what may with that movie’.

See, I don?t like those loosey-goosey 1970s styles because they look like tents on me - because I?m not tall and lithe, like Julianne. Some of us need some tailoring! Oh, and I cannot wait to see her as Sarah Palin. I bet she nails it, don?t you? I?m betting that Julianne is so good that I?ll come out the movie having sympathy for Sarah Palin. Also: MORE CLIVE PLEASE.
By the way, Julianne auditioned for the role of Hillary Clinton in the HBO movie The Special Relationship - the part eventually went to Hope Davis. But Julianne was in the running long enough to do a makeup and wig test, and here?s the photo of Julianne as Hillary. Not bad, right? She?s such a chameleon.

I enjoy politics as a spectator, much as I enjoy celebrity gossip. I used to be much more political, and as the presidential election gears up later this year, I?m sure I?ll be hanging on every manufactured drama. That?s what I like about politics - the real-time drama, the pettiness, the confusion, the battling soundbytes, the scandals, all of the stuff that Washington has in common with Hollywood. I love the drama of it. What I don?t love, however, is ?Hollywood versions? of actual political events, although I do make exceptions. For every All The President?s Men, there are five JFKs (Oliver Stone version) and Primary Colors (which, true, was a ?fictionalized? story about the Clintons).
What I?m trying to say: it?s too early and too unnecessary to make a movie about the 2008 election. It?s still fresh in people?s minds - we don?t need to see the ?Hollywood version? of what happened. But we?re getting it anyway. HBO is turning Mark Halperin and John Heilemann?s bestselling book, Game Change, into what I?m guessing will be a miniseries, not just a TV movie. And they?ve already got the Sarah Palin character cast! It?s Julianne Moore. Ugh.
Julianne Moore is getting fit for claws — she’s about to play Sarah Palin, the Mama Grizzly herself. HBO Films announced on Wednesday that the actress will take on the role of Sarah Palin in its film adaptation of the 2008 election tell all book, “Game Change,” written by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann. Moore is the first member of the cast, which will feature screen versions of the top players in the election, such as Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John McCain.
The book spilled deep, sometimes damaging secrets and quotes from the high-tension campaign trail, including Obama and then-running mate Joe Biden’s distant relationship, the Clintons’ original distaste for Obama and the fallout from McCain’s choice of Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate.
In one such story, McCain adviser Steve Schmidt was quoted telling Palin’s foreign policy advisers that, after testing the candidate before a debate, “You guys have a lot of work to do. She doesn’t know anything.”
It will take quite an acting job for Moore to play the role — she’s an outspoken liberal, and backed Obama during the election.

It?s being done by the same team who did HBO?s Emmy-winning TV movie Recount, about the 2000 election debacle in Florida. So - at least it?s not being done by hacks, I guess. It?s still too soon. And I?m worried that Kevin Spacey is going to end up cast as John McCain, and everything will be a hot mess. I mean, who would seriously play McCain? They?ll probably go British, don?t you think? Tom Wilkinson, maybe. OOOooh, or Paul Giamatti! Giamatti might be able to pull off McCain really well! And don?t even get me started on who should play the Dems. I can?t imagine casting for Obama will be easy. Hilary Clinton might be easier, though. Maybe they could even get Emma Thompson to do it again.
But seriously, ginger liberal Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin? That must be constructing one incredible Palin wig. Eh. They should have gone with Megan Mullally.

Looking breathtaking as she worked the red carpet, Julianne Moore turned up for the Orange British Academy Film Awards 2011 in London, England on Sunday (February 13).
Held at The Royal Opera House, the lovely actress was joined by Tom Ford as she excitedly awaited the BAFTA festivities to get underway.
During the show, Miss Moore will be facing off against Annette Bening, Hailee Steinfeld, Natalie Portman and Noomi Rapace for Best Leading Actress honors for her work in the movie "The Kids Are All Right".
The ceremony sees Jonathan Ross as host for the fifth year while being broadcast on BBC1.
Of the event, Deputy Bafta chairman David Parfitt was high on British films this year around, as he said, "British film has always punched above its weight in the film world. British film is always quite well represented in the Oscars as well as the Baftas."
"It's not that we have a particular bias. British film in general plays well around the world because it's very good."

I finally watched The Kids Are All Right this weekend, and I was so impressed with the film, particularly with the very convincing way that Julianne Moore and Annette Bening played longterm lovers in a slump. Without giving away any spoilers, the ending was too pat to me. Overall though I thought it was an understated, realistic film that had some touching truisms about marriage and family. Moore’s performance was excellent and Kaiser thinks that Moore should have received some more recognition from the industry.
Anyway Moore gave an interview to The Guardian in which she revealed that a therapist convinced her she needed to get married for her kids’ sake. It sounds like she could be revealing she’s having trouble in her marriage, but if you read between the lines it’s like she’s saying marriage isn’t necessary to prove commitment:
Every family is different. In my family there was one parent you asked for money and the other for permission to do things. You could never get both out of one parent. My father gave me money (”Here’s $50, but you can’t leave the house”) and my mother let me out (”You can go out, but I’m not going to give you any money”) and that was just how it was. I see that with my children too ? my husband and I flip-flop in different roles.
The only reason I got married in 2003 was for my children. I had a therapist who said marriage is really a container for a family and that made sense to me. Bart [Freundlich] and I have been together for years. We have Caleb, 13, and our daughter Liv, who is eight.
I want to be with my husband and kids as much as I can. Some celebrities take their children everywhere with them ? despite having to pull them away from school and friends. Because of my own childhood experiences, I try to work in New York or during the summer when my family can come with me. The days of doing a film where I need to be away for months during the school year are over.
The kids go to a Quaker school. Their father and I believe a lot in community, social responsibility, making sure you give to people less fortunate than you. The children, I think, see fame as separate from me. I always say, “I’m not on the cover because I’m famous. It’s because it’s my job, I’m in a movie.” I stress work and accomplishment and not celebrity.

She sounds like such a good mom and like she’s working to ensure her kids stay grounded. I really like Moore and find her so lovely and normal.
She doesn’t always get it right fashion-wise, though. (Remember her fuchsia dress with the single poof sleeve at the Golden Globes?) Moore wore a white long sleeve shift dress from The Row, the Olsen Twin fashion line, at the Greater New York Human Rights Campaign Gala in New York on Saturday. She’s so lovely and that dress just washes her out and hangs there. Plus it looks ridiculous with those black tights and booties.

Receiving quite the celebratory honor, Julianne Moore happily accepted her Hasty Pudding Pot at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Thursday (January 27).
The actress also took part in a parade in her honor - as she joins a long list of actresses who have been feted by the Harvard University theatrical group for their contributions to the arts.
Prior to receiving the Hasty Pudding "Woman of the Year" honor, Miss Moore - who just recently joined Twitter - wrote to her fans, ?I am ready to get roasted. Pretty sure their boobs r not real.?
Meanwhile, late night talk host Jay Leno was selected as the accompanying Hasty Man of the Year with his ceremony set to take place on February 4th.

Just last week, Julianne Moore wore one of the most hideous dresses many of us had ever beheld - seriously, it looked like two ugly dresses hate-f-cking each other. Julianne wore the Lanvin monstrosity to promote The Kids Are All Right in Europe, and Julianne got a lot of criticism for it. Now it looks like she?s trying to improve. These are photos from the premiere in Rome (for the film festival). Julianne?s Giorgio Armani dress is? better. Not outstanding, but I?ll definitely give her an A-plus for her hair, skin and makeup, all of which is otherworldly beautiful, and for the color, which is absolutely gorgeous. I’m having issues with the fit, though. And that little cut-out at the bust. The gown is from Armani?s Spring 2011 RTW collection, the shoes are Louboutin, and the clutch and jewelry are Bulgari (which Julianne is the face of currently). Just a note about the color - in these photos, I?m saying the dress is a dark cobalt-teal, but in other photos it just looks like a deep navy. Interesting.
Also very interesting? Julianne is doing the bulk of the European promotion solo. Why isn?t Annette Bening around? Most critics think both Julianne and Annette have an equally good shot as Best Actress Oscar nominations, but if Julianne is the only getting sent out on promotional duty, perhaps the producers are just going to put money into one actress?s campaign?
Earlier in the day, at the Rome Film Festival, Julianne donned head-to-toe Lanvin yet again for the photo call. Even the heels are Lanvin, apparently, according to HuffPo. I don?t mind when redheads wear red, but I just feel like the red with Pink with the red hair is just much too bright. It looks garish.

Even though I?m a huge fan of Julianne Moore and her soon-to-be 50 years of excellence, I will admit that Julianne doesn?t always have the best style. You can tell that Julianne doesn?t really care deep down about working a red carpet or being a stylish bitch. She seems to just wear what people tell her to wear, for better or for worse. So? last night, Julianne Moore attended the London premiere of The Kids Are Alright. She wore this Fugness That Destroys Souls to the red carpet. I don?t even have words to describe this mess.
How would you even think for one moment that this Lanvin tragedy looks good? Or is that the point? Maybe Julianne is part of some dare, or some wager to see who can wear the ugliest dress? But who is she competing with?
You know what I thought when I first saw the photos? I thought Julianne was wearing a coat, but only halfway, like it was the new style. Then I saw that cheap looking belt. Then I saw that it was all one piece. Lanvin needs to go back to the drawing board.

Showing up for the premiere of her latest film, Julianne Moore was spotted at the 54th BFI London Film Festival on Monday evening (October 25).
The ?Chloe? actress arrived at the Vue West End donning a rather interesting multi-colored dress paired with heels while walking the red carpet before heading inside for the debut of ?The Kids Are Alright.?
The Lisa Cholodenko directed movie finds "two children conceived by artificial insemination bring their birth father into their family life."
Meanwhile, in a recent interview with Allure magazine the 49-year-old beauty explained her thoughts on Botox and plastic surgery.
She told, "I hate to condemn people for doing it, but I don't believe it makes people look better. I think it just makes them look like they had something done to their face. When you look at somebody who's had their face altered in some way, it just looks weird."

One of my favorite gingers of all time, Julianne Moore, is the cover girl for the November issue of Allure Magazine. Julianne turns 50 years old in December, but you wouldn?t know it from these photos. I think Julianne go the cover because the producers of The Kids Are Alright will be making a big awards-show push for Julianne and Annette Bening come awards season. Plus, why not put Julianne on your cover? She?s great! And I would rather see her do model-poses than, say, Blake Lively. And unlike those young girls, Julianne actually has thoughts about things beyond boys and diets. Julianne actually talks honestly about aging and fifty long years as a freckly ginger. God, I love her.
On having to stay out of the sun: ?I have what I call ?my outfit?, I wear a long-sleeved rash guard and a pair of board shorts. It?s not so sexy, but I keep myself covered. My husband hates it. But if you ever see me at a water park, that?s what I?ll be wearing.?
On getting older: ?I?m always shocked by people who talk about not being middle-aged, I?m like, ?How old do you think you?re going to live? Let?s double your age and see where you get.? People are always like, ?Thirty-five is not middle-aged.? I?m like, ?Double it.??
On finding herself modeling at age 50: ?I like to call myself the hundred-year-old model.?
On plastic surgery: “I hate to condemn people for doing it, but I don’t believe it makes people look better. I think it just makes them look like they had something done to their face, and I don’t think we instinctively find that appealing. We think we do, but then when you look at somebody who’s had their face altered in some way, it just looks weird. We recognize emotionally that that’s not what we look like, that there’s something off. You don’t want to take away what makes a face look human.?
On dyeing her famous ginger hair: She does admit to touching up her signature red hair with a vegetable-based rinse every four weeks, if only because her gray streak has taken on an unusual hue. “Redheads don’t go gray — they go sort of peach, unfortunately,” she explains. “You don’t turn that nice silvery color.”
On her friend Ellen Barkin?s fashion sense: “She thinks I’m dumpy,” admits Moore. “She doesn’t like my Birkenstocks. She’d hate this outfit that I have on.”
On kissing men vs. women: ?I don?t really think it?s different kissing a woman vs. a man. I don?t think it really is. The difference is kissing someone you know versus someone you don?t.?
On her freckles: Seeing herself on billboards and magazine covers is still a surprise to Moore, not just because of her age, but because she grew up being teased about her unusual looks. A children’s book, Freckleface Strawberry (Bloomsbury USA), that she wrote based on that experience was recently turned into a musical. “I don’t love my freckles?I’d really rather not have them, but there’s nothing I can do about them,” says the actress, “I think we learn as adults that there are other things that are more important.”
On the characters she plays: Moore has played a wide range of roles in her career and has been nominated for an Academy Award four times. “Most of the stories I’m attracted to are about people and relationships,” she says. “I haven’t played very many heroic people.”
