Julianne Moore won the Critics Choice Award for Best Actress last night. It?s looking more and more like this year is going to be coronation for Julianne, which is awesome. She?s deserving ? she?s been turning in solid-to-excellent work for decades and she?s never won the big prizes before now. As for her look? the gown is Saint Laurent and if we?re judging this against Julianne?s history of wearing somewhat awful clothes, this is a win. If we?re judging this against all of the great looks she could have worn, this is just okay. It fits properly, it doesn?t suck, and she looked pretty. Let?s just call it a win.
A lot of people are talking about Julianne?s acceptance speech and her statement that she?s a ?girly girl.? I think her point was that she doesn?t like the feel that she?s in competition with her fellow Best Actress nominees, that she?d rather these awards be seen as a celebration of all of their performances. But it got sort of convoluted. Also: when she?s mentioning the other nominees, she forgot to mention Marion Cotillard. She made up for it on Twitter later.
Also in black last night? Felicity Jones in Dolce & Gabbana. I don?t know, you guys. Do you like this? I think the bodice part should have been solid, without the sheer panel. She could have done a lot better. I was actually expecting Felicity to kill it this awards season, but so far I?ve been pretty disappointed.

Julianne Moore was a big winner last night for Best Actress in a Drama. I?m hoping that she?s a sure thing for the Oscar too. Julianne actually went for a decent red carpet look with this custom Givenchy. As we all know, Julianne?s taste level is not where it should be, and I?ve had a hate-on for her red carpet style for years. But I?m okay with this. Do I think the feathers are overkill? Sure. But I?m okay with it.
Dakota Johnson wore another sparkly Chanel, and here?s what?s bugging me lately: why are all of the red-carpet Chanel looks we seen recently so poorly tailored? This doesn?t fit Dakota?s bust. Why does Karl Lagerfeld hate boobs? Also: BANGS TRAUMA.
I?m putting Viola Davis and Allison Janney together because they were sitting together and they both freaked out when Prince came out. It was glorious. Viola is wearing a beautiful Lola Falana gown and Allison is kind of meh in Ella Zahlan.

Julianne Moore is the frontrunner for Best Actress at all of the awards shows. You just get a feeling about some people, and I hate to say it this way, but it?s not always about the actor?s performance. I have no doubt that Julianne is brilliant in Still Alice ? in fact, I just watched the new trailer and she?s already got me crying. But Julianne is the frontrunner this year because sometimes everything lines up and the Academy just wants to give an actor the award for their body of work, and perhaps because that actor hasn?t won before. A similar thing happened when Jeff Bridges won. It wasn?t that his performance in Crazy Heart was all that memorable, it?s that he had never won an Oscar, he has an amazing body of work and it was his ?turn?.
Which isn?t to say that Julianne won?t have to put up some fight for it. She will. Some of her fellow nominees are already coming for her. Like? Jennifer Aniston?
Julianne Moore ? the front-runner for a Best Actress Oscar for ?Still Alice? ? says she was ignored when her film debuted because of Jennifer Aniston.
?No one came to our screening? at the Toronto International Film Festival because they wanted to see Aniston, she joked at a Le Cirque reception hosted by Ellen Barkin. ?We did a red carpet and there were, like, three people from the Canadian press.?
She and Aniston will compete for attention again at the Golden Globes, as both are nominees.

Yeah, to be fair to Julianne, Aniston got her boobs out for her TIFF screening. That?s why all of the reporters were there! As for Aniston and Julianne being in direct competition? well, I guess I shouldn?t say anything. I still can?t believe Aniston got those nominations, so obviously, I?m not the best judge of the Best Actress race.
And here?s a good little slice of Julianne?s campaign ? she spoke to the NYT right after she got her Golden Globes nomination and she confessed that she was up for the announcement, with her kids, and she was waiting to hear if her name was called (twice!). Most of them don?t admit it! I like her more for admitting that she was up (she was cleaning her waffle iron at the time).

The Gotham Awards were held last night in NYC. I?m including some photos from the red carpet in this post. Much like the New York Film Critics Circle Awards (also announced yesterday), the Gotham Awards are good for some buzz, but they probably won?t have much to do with the final Oscar campaigns and winners. At this year?s Gotham Awards, the big winner was Birdman ? the film took home the ?Best Feature? award, plus Michael Keaton won Best Actor. I think most people agree that Birdman will be included in the Best Picture Oscar race, but I seriously doubt it?s going to win Best Picture. Maybe I?m wrong?
But the best thing to come out of the Gothams was that Julianne Moore picked up a Best Actress Award for Still Alice. Many, many Oscar prognosticators believe Julianne has a relatively smooth ride to Oscar glory. Her biggest competition might be Reese Witherspoon, but Reese has already got an Oscar and Julianne is overdue for a win, which will work in Julianne?s favor.
What else? Let?s see? Boyhood picked up another award, this time the Gotham Independent Film Audience Award. As I said in the NYFCC post, I believe Boyhood will make it to the top-ten Best Picture list. But I kind of doubt it will win. The Hollywood Reporter sort of agrees with me ? they have a write-up today about how the NYFCC and the Gotham Awards are harbingers of NOTHING!
Oh, and Julianne?s dress is Givenchy! And I don?t even hate it. Oh, and Scarlett Johansson was there. It was confirmed yesterday that she did marry Romain back in October. I?m also including photos of Ethan Hawke, Oscar Isaac (his velvet is hotter than the Otter King?s velvet), Jon Hamm and Michael Keaton.

I keep forgetting that Julianne Moore has a part in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, which comes out in November. I guess I forgot because Julianne also has a possible awards-contender with Still Alice, and I?m hoping that Julianne really goes all out for her Oscar campaign. I think the Academy will want to give it to Julianne, don?t you? Anyway, Julianne covers the new issue of More (should have renamed it Moore!) to promote Mockingjay. Some highlights:
She loves the message of Mockingjay: “For a child moving into adolescence, the big question is, ‘Do I have free will? Can I determine my own future?’ [At that age], you’re still with your parents. But you’re asking yourself, ‘Who am I?’?
Why she did the film: “Most of the films I make are not for kids. My son was in line for the midnight show when The Hunger Games first came out. They both loved the books. For them, my being in Mockingjay was fairly meaningful.”
Ageing in Hollywood: “When you’re starting out in this business, you feel like you’re not in charge, that you’re still looking to the world for a kind of validation. But as you get older, you realize that direction comes from yourself, from your own desires and responsibilities. [When you're older] You choose your work. You choose your life. That’s where your power comes from ? and that’s a great feeling.”
On Philip Seymour Hoffman?s passing: ?It was a terrible, ridiculous, untimely loss. It?s difficult because I?m not sure how his family wants to deal with all this. It?s not my place. But I can talk about him as a colleague. He was an extraordinary talent and a lovely human being.?

I do associate PSH and Julianne with each other, probably because I?ve seen Magnolia about a million times. They also did Boogie Nights together but I haven?t seen that in years. Sigh? Julianne has had such a long, diverse career. From Amber Waves in Boogie Nights to Hannibal to The Big Lebowski to Far From Heaven and on and on. She?s so amazing! She?ll also be 54 years old this December. VAMPIRE. She needs to do a movie with Keanu Reeves.

Julianne Moore is 53 years old!! Seriously. We should all be so lucky to look this good at any age. Julianne covers this week?s The Edit (net-a-porter.com?s in-house online magazine) and as most of The Edit?s work, this editorial is really good. Julianne looks sexy, the clothes are beautiful and interesting and she?s showing off some great jewelry. You can read Julianne?s interview here ? she talks a lot about fashion (obviously, this is a fashion mag), and I?ve never realized before that she actually LIKES fashion. Like, she cares about it. She cares about labels and looking cute. Which is funny because? although I love her, Julianne?s red carpet style can be pretty bad. Anyway, some highlights:
It?s a privilege to be able to age naturally: ?Hell yeah!? she practically shouts. ?I?d like to think that I can age as naturally as possible. I don?t want to come out condemning anything anybody does, because I think that all of these things can contribute to making people feel better about themselves, and that?s great. But I also want to look like myself. I mean, we?re not going to live forever. You could be dead at 45, and guess what? Then you don?t have to worry about aging.? Moore glances into the mirror, her transformation for the day almost complete. ?I feel like I?d like to be 90. I?d like to be 100. I may not be lucky enough to have that happen. But, boy, I?m going to try.?
Her friendship with Tom Ford: ?When Tom makes something for you, you wear it. It was beautiful, perfect. It?s always a pleasure.? So how does it feel to be Ford?s muse? Moore chuckles. ?I don?t know that I?m his muse. I?m definitely a friend. He?s not mysterious about fashion, which I love. I don?t think it?s a mysterious business. I think it?s something that should be a lot of fun, and expressive, and obviously have some cultural relevance. It?s about who we are at that moment in time. He?s just a great, wonderfully creative and soulful person, and a really good friend.?
Her daughter is into fashion too: ?[Liv] has suddenly become very interested in fashion,? she says. ?She even went to Fashion Camp this summer. So I was like, ?Liv, do you want to go (to the show)?? We had a great time, and she met every fashion editor in the business. She loved it. She talked about the clothes as they came out ? what she liked, what she would wear, what she thought would look good on me, and I said what would look good on her. It?s a great thing to share. She?s much more daring than I am, certainly with color.?
Style rules: ?After a certain age, you can?t wear anything with words on it. Also, I don?t wear a lot of color because, having red hair, I carry a lot of color with me. I read a quote from an actress who said, ?Only wearing black is like not taking chances?, and I was like, ?I guess I don?t take chances then! I wear a lot of black!?? she says, laughing deeply.

I?ve never thought about it that way ? ?having red hair, I carry a lot of color with me.? I really never considered that idea for gingers. Sure, I thought about whether gingers can and should wear red (something I don?t mind) or how it looks like Christmas when gingers wear green (which I also like), but I never thought about it in terms of ?my hair is so bright, that?s why I don?t wear a lot of color.?
I also love this ? ?After a certain age, you can?t wear anything with words on it.? That?s how I feel about a lot of logo-bags. Unless you?re just all about conspicuous consumption and shouting your branded clothes, why would you want an Louis Vuitton bag that had ?LV? stamped on it a million times?
As for her comments on aging? I?m sure some people will yell at me and claim that Julianne has had a ton of work, but I really don?t think so. I think she?s just a beautiful woman with great genes and no Botox.

Julianne Moore covers the November issue of Health magazine. I know Julianne must hear this a lot, but damn, she’s 52 years old! She’s also one of the few women in Hollywood who can rock a center part and not end up looking severe as a result. When I think of all of the other actresses who are the same age (or younger) but look like over Botoxed monsters, I want to stifle a groan. In contrast, Julianne looks pretty damn natural. She must take great care of herself, and good genes are probably help too.
Julianne describes herself as “old” in this interview. I think she’s saying it with a sense of humor. She insists that her fitness routine follows the mix-it-up approach. Usually when an actress says she does different exercise routines (with a concentration upon yoga) all the time to keep from getting bored, I roll my eyes. With Julianne, I believe it:
On her fitness regime: “I try to do Ashtanga yoga two to three times a week. I’ve also started working out with a trainer, doing light weights and a lot of jumping around.”
The ocean is her haven: “I paddle board. But it’s not the kind of exercise people say it is. I think you have to really paddle hard. But if you’re just gliding along like I am, then no! The main problem is I can’t do anything six days straight because I get hurt. That’s the thing about old age–eventually your hip starts to hurt and you have to switch to do something else.”
She loves acupuncture: “For back pain, it’s amazing. I also had a period after my mother died where I couldn’t sleep. I mean, I was just in shock for the longest time and didn’t sleep for, like, a year. I was just a wreck. And I had some really intense acupuncture treatments, and it kind of reset my nervous system. So I think it’s very helpful.”

I totally get what Julianne is saying about not being able to do the same exercise six days in a row. Rest days are so important for anyone no matter what age. I understand what she’s saying though about the hip area. Even in my 30s, I find myself needing to stretch and pay closer attention to all the hip flexors. That psoas muscle is a killer if you don’t take care of it!
Julianne looks like a dream in this photoshoot, doesn’t she? She’s so radiant.

You guys, Julianne Moore is 52 years old. That?s 52 years of being a beautiful, fabulous bitch. I believe Julianne is aging naturally ? she?s a pale redhead who takes care of her skin and stays out of the sun. Compare Julianne to Nicole Kidman at the age of 46 ? who would you think is older? Who looks more natural? Who looks like a Botox Monster? Yeah. Julianne always wins.
Anyway, these are photos of Julianne and Chloe Moretz (am I supposed to call her Chloe Grace Moretz?) at last night?s premiere of the Carrie remake. Chloe plays Carrie, Julianne plays the crazy mother. It?s sad to me that Julianne takes these kinds of roles, but she seems to enjoy filling out her resume with these supporting parts in bigger, more commercial movies and such. And so now a new generation will get to experience the horror of Carrie when really? there?s absolutely nothing wrong with the first movie. Sissy Spacek as Carrie is wonderful and terrifying.
Julianne?s white gown is Givenchy. Design-wise, this dress is nothing special, but Julianne does look good in it. Chloe is wearing Valentino ? I think it?s a bit fussy for someone so young, but I?m glad Chloe isn?t wandering the red carpet in a minidress and four-inch Louboutins.

Julianne Moore covers the June issue of DuJour magazine, and every time I’m reminded that she’s 52 years old, I go into a bit of shock. Of course, I am notoriously awful at guessing people’s ages, but with Julianne, I honestly don’t see how she’s a year over 40. She looks fantastic, and she has a healthy attitude about aging too. Overall, DuJour’s photoshoot is rather underwhelming, but this particular black-and-white shot is immaculate.
In the interview (titled “The Most Honest Actress in Hollywood”), Julianne lets rip a little bit on how “boring” the topic of aging is. You can tell that she’s pretty tired of discussing it, and I can’t blame her. As a culture, we are all obsessed with aging and trouble ourselves over silly things like fine lines and wrinkles. Of course, Julianne has even more exposure to that line of thinking because she’s in an industry where looks are (almost) everything. Here are some excerpts:
On aging: “I just think that it?s boring! I don?t say that to you – I say that to everyone. Our fear of aging is really a fear of dying; aging is a physical manifestation of decay, and I think that is what?s so upsetting to most people.”
: “Men aren?t asked about age. Men aren?t asked about their children. Not that these things aren?t important, but I do feel like it becomes reductive when a woman?s life becomes, ‘Talk to me about your kids and how you feel about plastic surgery.’”
On her husband, Bart: “We are a family. We are emotionally responsible for one another, so we wanted to be legally responsible for one another, too. (It’s) something that I always wanted to do,’ Julianne says. ‘I didn?t know if I?d get married–I just didn?t innately feel like that was something I could be goal-oriented about–but I knew that I wanted to have children.”
On over-40 roles: “I do think that there?s interesting stuff out there, and it?s not anybody?s job to find it for me but mine. You?re always responsible for trying to figure out what to do with your own career.”

I love that last sentiment. So many actresses whine about the lack of career prospects over age 40, but Julianne refuses to play the victim. While it’s true that male actors tend to peak much later in their careers, women can still go strong as long as their talent (and decision-making skills) will take them.
Julianne also has a definite point about how women get asked all the aging & family-oriented question in interviews. That just comes with the territory and is part of appealing to the fan-based demographic.

Heading South of the Border to promote their upcoming movie, Julianne Moore and Chloe Moretz attended the "Carrie" photo call at The 5th Annual Summer Of Sony at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on Thursday (April 18).
The "Game Change" star looked beautiful in a white knee-length dress with lacy sleeves while her on-screen daughter chose a patterned short sleeveless brown dress and flesh-toned high heels.
In the remake of the classic '70s horror film, a sheltered high school girl unleashes her newly developed telekinetic powers after she is pushed too far by her peers.
For the new version, Ms. Moretz portrays the title character. "Carrie" hits theaters on October 18th, 2013.
