Back in 2010-11, Katie Holmes signed on to play Jackie Kennedy in The Kennedys, an eight-part cable miniseries. The miniseries was well-liked and award-winning, although Katie was not singled out for any awards or nominations for her Jackie portrayal. But someone thought it would be a good idea to get the gang back together for a sequel miniseries, The Kennedys: After Camelot. These are photos of Katie-as-Jackie filming in Toronto over the past few days.
What do you think of her Jackie look? They got the hair right. I don?t know if this is a wig or if Katie?s hair can really do that, but the hair is very authentic-looking. The clothes sort of make me sad though. Post-JFK, Jackie?s style was simplified for the most part, but she always looked pulled together. I don?t think Katie is even wearing a bra in these photos. Hm.
So, I looked up this new series, and there?s some other notable casting choices: Matthew Perry is playing Ted Kennedy, probably Ted circa Chappaquiddick. Alexander Siddig is playing Aristotle Onassis!! So now I?m jealous because Katie Holmes gets to have love scenes with Alexander Siddig. And let?s face it, Aristotle Onassis was not that attractive.

After her Today Show appearance earlier this week, Katie Holmes attended the New York premiere for her film Touched With Fire on Wednesday. Katie was escorted by her mother Kathleen and her two sisters, Holly and Nancy, along with Zac Posen who designed her gown. I am so in love with this gown its moved me to write bad poetry. Silk in that color is sumptuous. The cut is flattering everywhere. The small ruching at the right waist makes a beautiful, fluid line and the open gash across the back is sexy as hell. There is even a little kick train to fuel my need for drama! The puckering on the back seam is unfortunate but when you have that much going right, why split hairs?
Katie had a hand in her stunning premiere look. According to the star and the designer, they often collaborate on her styling via text:
Holmes hit the red carpet in a body-skimming navy halter with a triangular cut out in the back, a fresh face and a metallic cuff. And each detail of Holmes?s look had apparently been decided between Posen, the actress and her A-list style team.
?It was a pleasure to dress her, a joy, because she is a friend,? Posen told People exclusively on the red carpet. ?She loves clothing. She even had her own fashion line. We text ideas to each other. We thought, ?Do we do a gown, a suit? Brooks [Brothers, where Posen is a creative consultant] tonight.? But we decided she needed to bring the glamour.?
Holmes corroborated Posen?s design-by-text story. ?We always do,? said the female lead of the film. ?We text a lot anyway. And he was so kind to do this tonight. He?s got his Brooks Brothers show on Sunday and his own show on Monday. So it was really nice of him to let me wear this.?

I keep forgetting about the Holmes & Yang fashion line. In another promotional stop (and another fabulous dress), Katie stopped by The Tonight Show and showed off her Beyonc impression. Apparently, Katie is not a big football fan and took Suri out and about last Sunday. However, when it came time for the halftime show, Katie couldn?t pass up the chance to watch Bey and her Formation so she hightailed to her nearest friend?s house to watch the performance, which, naturally, led to an impromptu dance-along:
Katie is still wearing that diamond ring on her left finger that she denies is an engagement ring. But we are still supposed to ask about it, right?
I watched (trigger warning, the lead characters are bipolar) the trailer for Touched With Fire. I want to support the film but it?s rough, you guys. To anyone who has been affected in any way by the themes in the film, have a care. God bless them for getting this out there, I will go see it but I?m not sure how I?ll get through it yet.

Katie Holmes appeared on the Today Show yesterday to discuss her role as Carla, a poet with bi-polar disorder in the independent film Touched With Fire. In the film, a love story, Carla explores treatment of her disorder through medication. Why is that significant? Because in 2005, Katie?s then fianc, Tom Cruise, made some critical remarks about Brooke Shield’s treatment of postpartum depression with anti-depressants. Due to Scientology’s staunch stance on medication and Cruise’s self-professed knowledge of the entire history of psychiatry, this led to a terribly awkward interview with Lauer whom Cruise wrote off as “glib.” Katie was present on the Today Show set in 2005 during the infamous interview. Although Lauer and Cruise have since kissed and made up, Lauer couldn?t help but refer to the discussion when interviewing Katie on this topic:
A decade later, Matt Lauer is still ruminating on his infamous interview with Tom Cruise.
It was 2005, and the two were debating the merits of anti-depressants and other pharmaceutical drugs. As a Scientologist, Cruise is staunchly opposed to that type of medication and, at one point, challenged Lauer, saying, “You don’t know the history of psychiatry. I do.”
Now, the actor’s ex-wife, Katie Holmes, is playing a bipolar poet in a new movie, Touched With Fire, and the Today show host couldn’t pass up the opportunity to ask her about that impassioned debate.
“[The movie] asks the question, is it beneficial to treat these people with drugs?” Lauer set up.”You and I both remember a heated discussion I got into on that subject here in this studio. How do you think the movie comes down on that?”
Holmes managed to sidestep the potentially uncomfortable moment — and the question.
“What I think our director [Paul Dalio] did a wonderful job with is this movie just kind of shows, this is it,” she said. “These are these two characters in a love story, which he’s saying is kind of its own kind of mania, to fall in love. But he puts the question out there for the audience to make their own decision.”

This video is posted below. Address, acknowledge, deflect back to movie; if I had a scorecard, I would give Katie high marks here. I really think Katie handled this with grace. I suspect she knew it was coming ahead of time with Lauer’s careful wording and her letter-perfect response but good for them. This is a highly unpopular statement but I still harbor residual affection for Cruise from a previous job where I had the pleasure of interacting with him. However, I have never forgiven him for his judgmental remarks on disorders and medication so I am glad this hasn?t gone away. Until he publicly rescinds and apologizes for his comments (and quits Scientology ? why not wish big?) I won’t absolve him.
As for the movie, it?s a small indie but it has some of my favorite actors in it ? Christine Lahti and Griffin Dunne! I will have to carve out the time to track this one down.

Katie Holmes is the cover girl for the February issue of MORE, which is available on newsstands on January 26. The 37-year-old actress, currently starring on Showtime’s Ray Donovan, talks to the magazine about her new film, Touched with Fire, and her directorial debut, the mother-daughter drama All We Had. Of course, Katie leaves out the information we really want to hear – like dirt about her marriage to Tom Cruise and her dealings with the Church of Scientology, but hey, is anyone surprised that she doesn’t want to talk about that?
All in all, the interview doesn’t give us any earth-shattering revelations about Katie, except that she does, actually have a sense of humor – laughing out loud quite a few times. As the interviewer notes, “Her laugh is downright raucous?deep, loud and infectious. She has two types. There?s the single burst?Ha!?which usually accompanies some self-deprecating remark or realization. Then there?s the blast, Hahahaha! It?s like the audio at a fireworks display.” It’s good to know that Xenu may have given her back some of her pre-marriage personality. Here’s what Katie had to say in between the giggles:
On starting over, and living life on her terms: ?You?ve got to keep going. In every part of your life. Focus on the positive. Stay creative. Go to things that interest you. Do work that?s fulfilling. Challenge yourself. What?s amazing about the human spirit, there are so many people doing inspiring things. If you focus on that, it makes your life richer.?
On finding new challenges: ?I feel more creative. I feel ready…When I was a young actor, things happened quickly. My second job was Dawson?s Creek, and suddenly I was known. I was 18 years old; I had no life experience. I felt, ?I don?t have anything to bring. I don?t know what it?s like to be, say, really angry. I?m doing the best I can.? But with age I?ve gained confidence. I understand the kind of stories I want to tell. I have more experience in business. I feel more certain.?
On playing a bipolar character in Touched with Fire: ?I gained a greater empathy for people who are struggling with mental illness. Before the movie, I?d hear something about it and think, ?Wow. But that?s over there.? Unfortunately, we?re quick to judge, especially in this day of social media and the Internet?which I think is an ugly-maker. Everybody looks ugly when they?re on the Internet. But I wouldn?t want to live a flat life, with no pain.?
On trying new things and not being afraid to make mistakes: ?I like to be around people who make me learn something. I gravitate toward people who are doing things I don?t know how to do. [Being intimidated] is a waste of time. Just ask if you don?t know something. Ask. You?re probably going to make a mistake. Get over it…Some problems are never going to be solved. So dance them off, and you?ll feel better.?
On dating: ?That?s not something I want to answer…[I don?t] have a five or 10-year plan. I feel like I?m still a teenager in a lot of ways. I do a lot of things I did then. I paint, I color. I cook sometimes. I still feel like a girl. I don?t quite feel like a woman, maybe because I?m the baby of my family. I?ll probably be 90 and feel like, ?Not a woman yet!? Ha!?

Katie needs to quit being so coy about the dating thing, especially since pretty much everyone knows by now that she’s dating real life American hero Jamie Foxx. Hell, if I were dating him, I’d be jumping on a sofa. This relationship is definitely the most interesting thing about Katie, and it would be great to hear about it. And the whole Xenu thing. I read Going Clear and watched the documentary. Who wouldn’t want to know more about that? If she ever decides to open up about all of that, it’s sure to be an epic interview. As fascinating as she is fashionable, Katie Holmes is featured on the front page of the February 2016 issue of More magazine.
The darling ?Dawson?s Creek? dame wears minimal makeup in her photo spread while discussing her perfect pack of peers- "I like to be around people who make me learn something. I gravitate toward people who are doing things I don't know how to do. [Being intimidated] is a waste of time. Just ask if you don't know something. Ask. You're probably going to make a mistake. Get over it ? Some problems are never going to be solved. So dance them off, and you'll feel better."
As for her experience directing herself in ?All We Had,? Katie gushes, "[It] was like a marathon, but I didn't have time to second-guess myself. And it wasn't going to do anyone any good if I did. I stay calm. 'Oh, we only have one camera today? I thought we had two. OK, adjust.' It's similar to, 'We have no food at home, and you have to eat something soon. I have crackers in the bottom of my purse?that'll buy me 20 minutes.' Ha! You keep going, no matter what.'"

It?s been said by many people that Katie Holmes gave up what was left of her personality when she escaped from Tom Cruise and Scientology. Like, she played that so brilliantly and her escape was so thorough and planned-out that she used up all of her personality/charisma/goodwill. Personally, I?m still rooting for her, and I also think her post-divorce ?low key? vibe is important to her. She has what she always wanted: a quiet life in NYC, raising her daughter her way and working occasionally. So I read Katie?s Ocean Drive cover interview expecting the same kind of blah, vanilla, nothing-much-there profile. And she surprised me. I?m not saying she?s the most charismatic person in the world or anything, but she really does show flashes of personality and there are a handful of interesting quotes and asides. No regrets: “I don’t regret anything that I’ve done. I’ve learned from everything, and everything sort of leads you to the next place. I just keep going.”
Her normal life: “I have a very normal life, and I happen to work in an industry that is abnormal. Daily life, I take a train and cab; it’s just about getting from here to there, and I don’t care how I do it. I have to get there.”
Her cracked iPhone: ?I think most people have cracked iPhones. I?ve just been too busy.?
Her intense workout regimen: ?A little bit of everything?running, yoga, dance class, spin class. I try to fit as much in as I can without really stressing about it, and I always try to have a good time.?
What she eats: On the Ocean Drive set, Holmes enjoys a slice of pizza (no plate, like New Yorkers do) and Diet Coke and a soy latte. Salads and veggies were on special order, but she didn?t go near them. ?I try to be healthy and eat fruits and veggies, but I enjoy going out to dinner and having french fries like everyone else. And good guacamole.?
She loves NYC: ?What is wonderful about New York is there?s so many places that you can live here your whole life and never see, and there?s just so many hidden treasures. If you?re having a bad day, you just take a walk, and it?s not only that you see people who are having a worse day than you, it?s just that you?re in life. You suddenly can?t be stuck in whatever problem you?re in because you have to hail a cab or you have to get a subway ticket. There?s more than just you. And I think the harsh winters give you a little bit of character.?
She joined Instagram & Twitter: ?Some people post, like, 25 pictures a day; I post one a week. I had to get into the, you know, 2015.?
Her risky life: ?I don?t shy away from risks. I?m just interested in a lot of different things. I don?t even think of it as a risk; I think of it as something exciting and new. As I?ve grown up, I think that the harder you work the more successful you are. From what I have seen, the people at the top, they?re just constantly working and constantly surrounding themselves with other successful, like-minded creative people.?
Tabloid stuff: ?Since I started in the business, [tabloid journalism has] changed so much, and I feel that it?s very distracting from the work that people are putting in and are putting out,? says Holmes. ?There is such talent out there, and sometimes it?s distracted by reports and tabloids and media and that?s unfortunate. I wish the spotlight could go back on celebrating the talent and leave it at that.?
A potential Dawson?s Creek reunion: ?[Dawson?s Creek] was such a special time in all of our lives [but] some things are better when it stays the way it was. I would love to get together with everybody, [but] I?m not sure a reunion would be as fulfilling as what we all want it to be. I?m game for anything.?

What strikes me is that Katie still feels like she?s starting over post-divorce. Like, even her career has been rebooted, with some old glitches. Her career really isn?t going gangbusters or anything, but I would imagine she could carve out a decent career as a film and TV character actress, you never know. I also get the feeling that she?s being boring on purpose ? she has her freedom, she has her daughter, and to protect her new life, her public persona is purposefully ?boring.?

The ?Dawson?s Creek? darling is directing and starring in ?All We Had,? and she showed up wearing a grungy strapless denim dress with unkempt hair and questionable cosmetics.
?All We Had? is based on the novel by Annie Weatherwax and earlier this year Katie announced, ?I am very excited and honored to be collaborating with Jane [Rosenthal] and Josh [Boone] on this project and look so forward to bringing Annie?s incredible characters to the screen.?

Always a lovely sight to behold, Katie Holmes showed up in Times Square, NYC for a visit to the ABC Studios on Wednesday morning (July 22).
The ?Dawson?s Creek? darling was in the house for a chat about her new season of ?Ray Donovan? on ?Good Morning America,? and it sounds like she?s having a blast.
Of her character Paige Finney?s braces, Katie explained, ?Literally, the braces are because she has migraine headaches and that helps them. I think it?s definitely to show that Paige, while she does look like she has everything in order, she still is flawed. We wanted to impart right way that she?s a complicated character. She?s not exactly what you see.?
