The Britney Spears saga continues to upset me, because I keep feeling like people are focusing on the wrong things. We now know for sure that Britney is not currently doing well her medication situation is being evaluated, and her conservatorship is in shambles. The court is doing a thorough investigation of the conservatorship and whether Britney should be allowed the personal freedom she seems to want. Lynne Spears is involved too, and historically, Lynne?s influence has not been good for Britney. Kevin Federline is reportedly keeping their sons close and not allowing them too much time (or any time) with Britney right now.
Throughout the week, people have been focused on some comments that Britney?s longtime manager Larry Rudolph made to TMZ. Seemingly out of nowhere, Rudolph chimed in, saying that he doesn?t think Britney will ever work in Vegas again and will probably never work again. He later clarified, saying ?Other media sources seem to be picking up my quotes to TMZ as implying that Britney will never work again. That?s not what I said. I simply said that the Vegas residency is now officially off and that she hasn?t called me in months to talk about doing anything so I?m not sure if or when she will ever want to work again. It?s that simple. All of which? is not what the focus should be, Jesus. Britney has hundreds of millions of dollars. The current conversation isn?t ?let?s make Britney well enough so we can trot her out in Vegas and make even more money off this fragile woman.? The conversation is ?can Britney function on a daily level?? And the answer seems to be no, she can?t function.
Britney Spears is weathering a difficult time amid her conservatorship drama, post-treatment lifestyle and her father Jamie?s recovery after suffering a life-threatening colon rupture last fall.
?Britney is dealing with debilitating emotional issues that need to be treated with medications. It?s like she isn?t in control over her emotions right now,? a Spears family source tells PEOPLE. ?Everything is very up and down.?
PEOPLE previously reported that Spears? prior medication regimen had lost some efficacy over time. ?There is no doubt that she needs to be on medications to try and find a balance again, but it?s very scary when the meds are not working,? the source continues.
According to the insider, Spears experiences a range of emotions on a daily basis. ?Right now, she is very sluggish and down. Some days, she is a zombie. There is no life and definitely no passion in her. It?s very sad.?

Yeah? I know ?sources? keep saying that Britney?s doctors are working on a new prescription drug cocktail for her, but I?m kind of wondering if we?ll eventually learn that Britney has been refusing to take her meds. That?s what it reads like to me, although I fully acknowledge I could be wrong. We know that Britney told the court that Jamie was drugging her without her consent, and I feel like this is part of that.

Leslie Mann appeared on the penultimate episode of Busy Tonight (#SaveBusyTonight!). I adore Leslie. I actually like Judd Aptow a little more because of Leslie. In 1997 (the same year she married Judd) she starred in George of the Jungle opposite Brendan Fraser. Busy got Leslie to admit she had a crush on Brendan while making that film. It wasn?t too much of a reveal, who didn?t have a crush on Brendan in that film? Who doesn?t have a crush on him now? But Leslie admitted to far more than a crush, she told Busy thought she was in love with him and wanted to marry him.
You had a crush back in the day?
Yeah. Brendan Fraser.
And you were on George of the Jungle? But you thought maybe?
I would marry George? Brendan. Because he was just delightful. In the movie I am supposed to fall in love with him and I just fell in love with him in real life. And I was like, ?Judd, I love Brendan.?
And he was like, ?I know. Stop it.?
?Yeah, but really, I think I love him.? And I started getting really weird around him. At work. You know, because he was like naked all day long. In the loin cloth.
Busy asked Leslie if she ever told Brendan about her crush and Leslie didn?t answer that, but she did tell a story about him kissing her hello right after she?d taken a big bite of oatmeal. She said she had oatmeal all over her lips and Brendan never kissed her hello after that (it was their consensual daily greeting, btw). So Busy wondered out loud if Brendan remembered that and then she brought Brendan out to ask him! It was adorable. Brendan brought a huge bouquet of peonies because Leslie loves them (I love peonies, too, Brendan. In case you ever want to show up on my couch). Brendan was dapper, Leslie was thrilled and Busy was pleased at pullingthe whole thing off. Apparently Busy got Judd?s okay prior to the surprise and he was totally on board with it. They had a sweet chat, Leslie was making moony eyes at Brendan and he complimented her repeatedly. But the best part is that he gave her his loincloth from George! I guess Leslie had named it ?The Butt Flap? and he framed it and gave to her. The whole exchange is just good ol? feel-good TV.
Here is the clip of Brendan surprising Leslie. I should warn you, at the end of the segment, Busy thanks Leslie and Brendan and sings her signature sign off song. She?s quite emotional and cries throughout and at the very end, when she looks in the camera and earnestly says, ?Goodnight, you guys I love you,? it hits you in the chest. It?s obvious Busy puts so much heart into this show. I wish I could save it for her, I hope she finds a new home.

Here are some additional photos of Selena Gomez at the Cannes Film Festival this week. I previously covered Selena?s fashion on Cannes Opening Night, where she chose two Louis Vuitton looks, both in white and both? okay. For the photocall for The Dead Don?t Die, Selena wore a Chanel suit and kept the same center-part, slicked back bun. It?s a look? I mean, I actually like the Chanel suit (to my surprise) and I like that she looks very professional and pulled-together. I just think Selena?s hair is one of her best assets, and I don?t get why she?s hiding it!
Anyway, Selena has obviously been going through a lot the past few years, and she spent much of 2018 and early 2019 out of the public eye. She barely posts anything on social media, she doesn?t go to many events, and she?s not giving many interviews. The vibe is that she?s just prioritizing her physical health and mental health these days. She spoke briefly at Cannes about what?s on her mind these days and why shes not very engaged on social media:
Selena Gomez took a moment at the Cannes Film Festival to lament a culture where everyone lives on their phones.
?I think our world is going through a lot,? Gomez said at a press conference in the South of France on Wednesday morning. ?I would say for my generation, specifically, social media has really been terrible. It does scare me when you see how exposed these young boys and young girls are. They are not aware of the news. I think it?s dangerous for sure. I don?t think people are getting the right information sometimes.?
Gomez has more than 150 million Instagram followers, but she said that she?s learned to be selective about what she posts. ?I think it?s pretty impossible to make it safe at this point,? Gomez said. ?I?m grateful I have the platform. I don?t do a lot of pointless pictures. For me, I like to be intentional with it. It just scares me. I?ll see these young girls at meet and greets. They are devastated, dealing with bullying and not being able to have their own voice. It can be great in moments. I would be careful and allow yourself some time limits of when you should use it.?

Years ago, whenever the younger celebrities talked about social media pressures, I would just roll my eyes and think ?it?s really not that hard, just delete the app and get on with your day.? But I get it now, especially when it?s someone like Selena who has an intense following of very young girls talks about the peer pressure the kids are facing with social media and how these ?curated? images skew their perspectives and affect their body image and sense of their own self-worth. It?s easy for the adults to just scoff and say ?just don?t go on Insta? but these are just kids and they?re being warped by these platforms and we still don?t even understand the long-term effects of it.

Finally, a little injection of superfluous, dumb glamour at the Cannes Film Festival. I?m sure that at some point, Cannes? organizers will step forward and claim that their intention was to dial down the crazy fashion and the extravaganza this year. When that happens, just tell them ?mission accomplished.? It?s kind of a sad day when I?m *this* excited about Bella Hadid. Bella came to Cannes probably as part of some deal with Dior, or maybe some beauty contract. Bella?s been in years past too, and I appreciate the fact that we got someone fun and young on the carpet these photos are from the Rocketman premiere last night. Bella wore Dior couture, and it?s just a triangle made out of ruffles. It doesn?t fit her properly, no one needs this many ruffles and her makeup isn?t good. Still, love seeing her on the carpet!
Shailene Woodley also wore Dior a tuxedo dress and matching tuxedo? bike shorts? Why is 2019 Cannes the ?festival of bike shorts??? I like a woman in a tuxedo, but this is a bad tuxedo look.
Eva Longoria in my favorite dress on her so far, a gold Cristina Ottaviano Fall 2019. Stunning. Beautifully designed.
Dita Von Teese is Dita Von Teese, she?s never going to phone it in. I would hate this on anyone else, but she pulls it off.
Priyanka Chopra in a really boring, undramatic Roberto Cavalli. What is this mess? I mean, it?s not a mess, it?s a fine, basic gown. Unremarkable.
