I?ll keep saying this: this year?s Venice Film Festival is better than the past two years of Cannes Film Festival coverage. The festival selections are better, the attendees are more fashionable and there are more A-listers in Venice than there were in Cannes. Venice is also doing the old-school Cannes thing of inviting models and random actresses to show up as part of various sponsorships with beauty companies, fashion labels or jewelry houses. All in all, Venice has been glam as hell. So here are some fun fashion photos from the past few days. Cate Blanchett came out for the premiere of Joker, likely as part of her Armani contract (she?s the face of an Armani fragrance). She wore Armani Prive and I kind of hate this? The skirt is way too stiff.
Penlope Cruz in Ralph and Russo. Penelope will just always have that showgirl style, right? She loves ?explosions of tulle.? She loves rhinestones and spangles and sparkly things. This is very on-brand for her.
Call me crazy, but I friggin? love Sienna Miller in this Gucci muumuu. It feels very Indian-influenced and I?m into it.
When Sack Dresses Go Wrong: Meryl Streep Edition. This is Givenchy and it looks? comfortable, I guess. The fabric is actually rather pretty but the design is so bad.
Zazie Beetz in Valentino? I kind of love this? Is that weird? There?s too much fabric up top but I genuinely think this looks cool.
Bella Thorne was there with her new boyfriend Benjamin Mascolo. She wore a see-through Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini dress. I mean? she got some headlines, which was the point.
Barbara Palvin in Armani. LMAO. Do you think Armani green-lighted the Pink bow, or did she add that after the fitting? She looks like she picked that up at CVS.

Denise Richards latest project, The Secret Lives of Cheerleaders, premiered last night on Lifetime. Denise plays the mom who forces her teenage daughter to try out for the squad. As the title suggests, the movie is Mean Girls who cheer, but like dark pom-pom cage-fighting kind of bullying. In real life, Denise is mom to two teenage daughters, Sam, 15, and Lola, 14 (her youngest, Eloise, is seven). I?m sure Denise didn?t force her girls on to the cheer squad, but she did give them phones, which she thinks might be just as bad. She said this in an interview with Extra, below.
What Denise said about social media was:
I feel like it?s so difficult now, even more so difficult for kids today because of social media.
I think so too and I?m definitely seeing that with my own daughters, you know, theres just so much access and they can see everything and hear everything. It?s very different and I think it?s a lot of pressure on kids now.
Are they on social?
Yes. I?ve taken it away several times. I feel like the biggest mistake I ever made was given them phones
We talked about Kelly Ripa and Jerry O?Connell not giving their kids phones for as long as they could. But their discussion was centered more around their kids getting lost on the phone and never seeing them again, not bullying, which it sounds like what Denise is suggesting is going on. But it?s not really the phone that?s the problem, is it? Because I assume these kids have access to computers and tablets. If they want to get into social media, I don?t know that parents can effectively stop them. As we discussed on the Alex Rodriguez post, kids will find a way. I think maybe educating myself about what?s out there will be a better course for me than trying to eliminate my kids? access.
I remember being so grateful when the school bell rang, and I could walk away from all the high school drama for the day. I couldn?t imagine what it would be like to have it follow me home by way of social media. And I know that if kids want to come for each other, they?ll come for everyone in the family, which would make having a mom on a realty show a liability. And let?s not even start with their dad, Charlie Sheen. Could you imagine what kids who want to be hurtful lob at Sam and Lola? They have to fight social media fires on three fronts oof. It might be easier to just not let them be teenagers. ?Happy Birthday, Honey! Today you?re 22.? ?But yesterday I was 11?? ?Don?t argue with me, I?m your mother.?

I really do appreciate how Kristen Stewart plays the game these days. She?s figured out a way to be authentic to herself while still playing the Hollywood game and still doing mainstream films and going to big film festivals to promote those films. It helps that she?s doing work she?s proud of these days too I feel like she?s consciously making the trade-off of ?I?m really proud of this film, so I will play the game and wear a big Pink gown for the premiere because I know that?s the best way to support the work.? Kristen was in Venice this weekend to support Seberg, the film where she plays Jean Seberg it?s the true story of how Seberg was targeted by the FBI for her association with Black Panther Hakim Jamal (played by Anthony Mackie). Zazie Beetz, Jack O?Connell and Margaret Qualley are in the film too, and they were in attendance.
For the premiere, Kristen wore this Pink Chanel gown which? is actually quite beautiful and unexpected on her. I think I would have disliked this on someone like Elle Fanning it would have veered into sugary and twee. But K-Stew makes it look punk rock somehow. It?s weird. For the photocall, Kristen wore Chanel those trousers are awful. Margaret Qualley wore Gucci to the premiere and Dior to the photocall, in case anyone is interested.
As for the subject matter of the film, Kristen spoke about what it?s like to be a politically outspoken actress and the changing nature of her fame:
?It?s not hard for me to wear my politics,? Stewart said, when asked if political causes still need movie stars today. ?It shows up in the work I do?in [public] conversations that I have?I like that interaction. I?m so lucky to have it!?
Speaking about her celebrity, Stewart said that ?it kind of frightened me a lot, when I was younger, and a little more unsure.? But now, ?it?s great that I have this position where I can be totally open about communicating with people.?
Stewart said that she?s not ?entirely engaged? on social media,?but I feel like I?m not hiding?.There?s a difference.? It?s also a change from how it used to be. For a couple of years, early on in her career, she said she thought: ?I have to protect myself. I?m so completely unguarded.? Now, however, ?it?s a beautiful feeling, in stark contrast with how I felt [then], when you are initially exposed to something. The onslaught of that type of attention can really put you in a hole.? While she no longer feels that way, ?it?s not like I?m going to start a public Instagram and start yelling at people about what I think. But I feel like I kind of do that anyway, in a different way.?

I actually don?t consider Kristen to be all that political, or politically outspoken. But to be a queer woman in Trump?s America today is a political act unto itself, so props to her. As for her performance people like it. But there?s still no trailer?!?!
