Before Thanksgiving, we heard that Angelina Jolie had organized some kind of two-day film festival which would focus on stories of war-zone rape. I think it was a mistake to call it or refer to it a ?film festival,? when really it was probably more of an educational, seminar-like experience featuring documentary footage and first-hand accounts from victims. Anyway, Angelina Jolie really did spend a chunk of her Thanksgiving holiday in London, doing this festival/seminar thing called Fighting Stigma Through Film, which she hosted at the British Film Institute. These photos are from Angelina exiting the BFI. Good lord, she looks beautiful. Is it just me or has she gained a little bit of weight? She looks healthier in these photos.
Angelina Jolie is continuing to fight for the victims of sexual violence in war. Speaking at the Fighting Stigma Through Film festival in London Friday, Jolie described the crime as ?an urgent international issue,? adding that ?changing attitudes and laws, and challenging stigma and impunity for sexual violence in all our societies is the work of generations. It?s all of you, it?s all of us together.?
The Fighting Stigma festival is an offshoot of the wider Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict (PSVI) campaign Jolie founded with former British foreign secretary William Hague in 2012. It features 35 movies focusing on the discrimination and social stigma faced by survivors of warzone rape and other forms of sexual violence in conflict. The filmmakers come from 14 different countries including Syria, Burma, Russia and Nigeria. Other attendees included Sophie Wessex and British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.
?I can only imagine the kind of difficulties that many of you have faced to get to this point in your lives,? Jolie said warmly to the filmmakers gathered at the British Film Institute on London?s Southbank. Jolie continued, ?From the start, PSVI has been about bringing together survivors, civil society and legal experts with [the] government to work together to affect change; not government telling civil society or survivors what needs to be done, but listening to and supporting the voices of the people most directly involved.?
While behind the mic, Jolie will interview a number of high-profile guests about potential solutions to warzone sexual violence and the equally heart-wrenching topic of the global refugee crisis.
?I hope we will be working on this for many years to come,? Jolie told the audience at the BFI, adding that it was crucial to allow ?the voices who set the agenda to be those of the survivors themselves.?

It would not surprise me at all if Angelina moved full-time to London once everything was settled with the divorce and custody war stuff. She?s so comfortable there, and she?s been quietly building a life for herself there, with a focus on her Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict initiative. She?s got several good friends in London now too. As for this film festival it sounds like devastating subject matter, but necessary stories to tell. I trust that Jolie and the filmmakers didn?t participate in this for any exploitative reasons. Jolie likely used her name to put this together, and to shine a light on the work of these filmmakers.

The older I get, the less time I have for TV shows and movies which use rape as a plot device or a shorthand way to bring about some character development. Downton Abbey used rape as a plot device, and while the story was well-acted and probably true to the era, it still felt cheap. The show Shetland also used rape as a plot device, only the rape of a popular character barely had anything to do with the actual plot of the show. There are lots of other examples, and suffice to say, very few shows or films should go down the ?eh, let?s just have this character be a rape victim? plot. I was thinking about this when I read People Mag?s story about a new film festival which Angelina Jolie has put together a two-day film festival which focuses on films about rape, sexual abuse, assault and war crimes.
Angelina Jolie is bringing her humanitarian efforts to a new film festival. The 43-year-old actress is taking part in the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict?s film festival, Fighting Stigma Through Film, which will focus on helping fight discrimination and social stigma that survivors of war zone rape face, according to a press release from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in the U.K. Jolie is the co-founder of Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict which is hosting Fighting Stigma Through Film later in November.
The mother of six is leading a Q&A session with Dr. Denis Mukege, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, and City of Joy Centre Director Christine Schuler Deschryver.
?Artists and human rights defenders often taking significant risks, to tell the truth about crimes committed against defenseless women, children, and men during war,? Jolie said in a statement. ?The perpetrators of war crimes often go to extreme lengths to keep the truth from being told. So I am proud to support the filmmakers taking part in the festival. Stigma compounds the suffering of survivors of war zone rape. It is an unbearable injustice on a human level, and it is a major obstacle to achieving justice for victims of these sickening acts of violence. We need to examine and change the entrenched social attitudes that treat sexual violence as an inevitable consequence of war or lesser crime ? including harmful attitudes to women,? Jolie added.
The festival will take place on Nov. 23 and 24 at the British Film Institute in London.

I 100% understand the need to draw attention to these stories and I completely agree with what Jolie says about de-stigmatizing these stories and these subjects. But also: good lord, this film festival sounds like such a downer. It would be one thing if every film being shown is a documentary that I would understand, and I would applaud. These are victims using their voices, telling their stories on camera. But I fear that some of the films in this festival will be fictionalized accounts that don?t really educate or inform, and instead use ?rape? as a plot device, or some easy way to make a character sympathetic. So? bless Angelina for trying, but even a stan like me would avoid this film festival like the plague.

It?s sort of nice that no matter what?s happening in the world, no matter how apocalyptic it feels out here, we can always count on Angelina Jolie dressing like a widowed Italian grandmother. These are photos of Angelina out in LA with Zahara and Shiloh on Tuesday. They traveled by car to Robertson, and the paparazzi got these photos of the ?girls day out? as they walked into Kitson. Apparently, Angelina, Shiloh and Zahara were all in good spirits, and you can see that everyone seems light and happy.
Reportedly, Brad and Angelina?s lawyers met for some kind of custodial hearing yesterday. I waited to see if we would get any kind of information or leak out of it. I actually expecting some four-alarm TMZ headline about it. There was nothing. The lack of information could mean that the lawyers were reminded about NOT leaking sh-t to the press. It could mean that nothing was really decided, that this was just one hearing or discussion in what will be a lengthy and prolonged legal battle over custody.
But? that?s not what the press leaks were about ahead of this hearing. Team Brad made it sound like some big stuff was going to be decided this week, and it would be decided in Brad?s favor. So does the lack of information mean that gulp things didn?t really go Brad?s way? And maybe he and his lawyers need a few days to figure out a way to ?massage? whatever came out of the hearing? I?m expecting a Page Six story about Angelina being insanely jelly over Jennifer Aniston at any moment.

Here are some photos of Angelina Jolie out and about in LA with her four youngest kids: Knox, Vivienne, Zahara and Shiloh. Pax and Maddox were not part of this outing, but I?ve seen some photos of Maddox solo, driving around LA, so I guess Madd is at the age (driving age, aw!!) where he doesn?t want to hang with his little siblings. He?s got things to do, people to see, etc. He has a car! God, that makes me feel old.
For this outing, it seems like Angelina took the younger kids to see a movie. No one knows which one. Let me look at the releases which are in theaters now? my hope is that she took the kids to see Crazy Rich Asians, which is PG-13 and probably fine for kids of those pre-teen and teen ages. Maybe they went to see Christopher Robin, that?s a Disney film and Angelina?s working on a Disney film right now. I doubt she?s taking them to BlacKkKlansman, Mile 22 or The Meg (just because I don?t think the girls would want to see The Meg). Maybe The Incredibles 2? Ant-Man and the Wasp? The Spy Who Dumped Me? Hahah, probably not. It?s probably Christopher Robin.
Jolie has been in LA for about a week now with the kids. They?ve been getting pap?d every few days as they go to the grocery store or what have you. TMZ and Team Pitt made a BFD about how the judge ?ordered? Jolie back to LA, but considering the structured visitation order from a few months ago, it feels like Jolie had already made plans to be in LA for the August 21st hearing. What do I know, though?

Angelina Jolie just keeps doing her thing. While Brad Pitt leaks like a sieve to multiple outlets about how he?s now father of the year, Angelina just keeps focused and ignores him for the most part. I wonder if that?s one of the reasons why Brad is being so extra these days: he wants a reaction from her, bad or good, but she?s not taking the bait. So, what is Angelina up to this week? Oh, just marking the anniversary of Srebrenica genocide with a public statement.
Angelina Jolie is remembering the victims of the Bosnian genocide in 1995 that killed over 8,000 Muslim men and boys. The actress, who centered her 2011 directorial debut In the Land of Blood and Honey around the Bosnian war that led to genocide, commemorated the 23rd anniversary with a powerful statement about the hardships the European country and its citizens still face today.
?The passage of time cannot diminish the pain felt by survivors of the war in Bosnia or the horror of the Srebrenica genocide,? Jolie said in a statement. ?I have never met more brave, dignified and resilient women than the Mothers of Srebrenica, many still searching for their lost sons and husbands 23 years after the genocide. My thoughts and my heart are with them, and with all survivors in Bosnia today. Srebrenica stands as an indelible warning of the consequences when we fail to take sides when innocent civilians are threatened with aggression. It is also a reminder that the international community can act together, as NATO eventually did in Bosnia, to end the conflict and protect civilian life.?
Jolie serves as Special Envoy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and uses her role to work in support of refugees around the world. In her statement, the activist hopes the anniversary reminds nations around the world to take steps in preventing another genocide as millions of refugees are displaced.
?On this the 23rd anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, I hope we will be inspired to renew our sense of responsibility towards others, and our confidence in our ability to act collectively to prevent genocide and war crimes and defend international law,? Jolie said. ?It is in our hands, and would be the best way of honoring the memory of those who died in Srebrenica.?

It says something awful about America that in the same week that Donald Trump is doing the most to destabilize NATO alliances, an American actress and humanitarian is praising NATO?s involvement to deal with the Bosnian genocide. At the time, President Clinton had close diplomatic relationships with NATO allies, and they worked together however imperfectly to help the Bosnian people. I don?t want to depress everyone, but I doubt that will happen again anytime soon.

I love musicals and musical theater, but I?ve never really been into Wicked. It?s more than possible that I just never gave it much of a chance though I am more into the Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals, which I know makes me sound impossibly gauche and middle-class. I can?t help it thought Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar are MY JAMS. Anyway, what was I even talking about? Wicked. Wicked is in London?s West End. And Angelina and the kids are in London throughout the summer while she works on Maleficent 2. So she took the kids to see Wicked:
Angelina Jolie is enjoying some family time abroad amid her custody dispute with ex Brad Pitt. The actress, 43, is currently in London with her kids Maddox, 16, Pax, 14, Zahara, 13, Shiloh, 12, and 9-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox, who all live full-time overseas with Jolie as she films Maleficent 2. Over the weekend, she was spotted treating her children to a night out at the London?s West End to see the musical Wicked, and shopping at a department store with her brood looking ?happy and relaxed.?
Some Wicked cast members tweeted about Jolie?s appearance at their production, with actress Claudio Kariuki saying, ?Angelina Jolie in watching @WickedUK for the 3rd time tonight, casual.?

I haven?t kept up with this, but apparently this is Angelina?s THIRD time seeing Wicked in either London or New York. Maybe she?s just a huge fan of this particular musical. Or maybe one of the Jolie-Pitt children is secretly a total musical-theater nerd. Or maybe the whole family just really loves this particular show. Out of all the kids, who is the most likely contender for ?musical theater nerd?? My guess is? Zahara, maybe? Shiloh seems like she?s more into skateboarding, Pax is more into cooking, Maddox is more into filmmaking and the twins? well, we don?t really know their personalities.

Harper?s Bazaar sent us these exclusive photos of Angelina Jolie inside St. Paul?s Cathedral last week. As you may remember, Angelina attended the a ceremony for the Service of Installation of Knights Grand Cross of the Order of Bath, an order of which she is a member since she was dame?d in 2014. Angelina has been in England for months working on Maleficent 2, and I guess she had an afternoon off to attend this event. While she was in the cathedral, Angelina went to the American Memorial Chapel within the the building:
Angelina Jolie visited St. Pauls Cathedral in London Thursday to attend a ceremony for the 200th anniversary of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, an award which recognizes the work of service officers or diplomats in a foreign country. While at the Anglican church, the actress and activist made her way to the American Memorial Chapel, which honors 28,000 American soldiers who were stationed in the U.K. during World War II and lost their lives. In exclusive photos obtained by BAZAAR.com, Jolie looks moved as she looks through the names of the deceased veterans inside the chapel.
Jolie places her hand over her heart while reading the 500-page, leather-bound book that contains the inscription, Defending freedom from the fierce assault of tyranny they shared the honor and the sacrifice. Though they died before the dawn of victory their names and deed will long be remembered where ever free men live.?
The chapel in St. Pauls contains many references to the U.S. The three stained-glass windows contain the state symbols of every American state, the wood carvings contain the birds, plants and flowers of America, and in one panel are a space rocket and stars ? a nod to the American space program. Jolie has been a fierce supporter of American soldiers and veterans. In 2014, the actress donated an undisclosed sum of money to The Independent?s Christmas campaign for homeless veterans, according to the publication.

It?s true that Angelina has done some work with British and American military issues and veterans? issues. She?s even made USO trips too, to meet American and NATO soldiers in the field or on military bases. I actually didn?t know that there is an American Memorial Chapel within a major British Anglican cathedral. I looked up the history apparently, part of the original cathedral was bombed during World War II, and when the Brits rebuilt it after the war, they dedicated that part of the cathedral to the Americans who lost their lives in WWII. The chapel was opened in 1958, with the Queen and then-vice president Richard Nixon in attendance. The history of this is really extraordinary I?m glad Angelina got a chance to see it in person, it must have been so moving. They even opened up the glass case so she could turn the pages on the book!!

Billy Bob Thornton pops up every few years because he?s mentioned his ex-wife Angelina Jolie in an interview. It?s a bit painful, because BBT actually is a great actor and writer and he deserves to be discussed on his own, for his work. But that just doesn?t happen he really only makes headlines when he?s talking about Angelina. BBT did a podcast interview with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association?s In Conversation. He got the question about his 2001-03 marriage to Angelina. Some quotes:
What he thinks about his marriage to Jolie now: ?I look at that time as a great time. Angie is still a friend of mine and she?s a great person and she?s done so much. She makes movies that are important to her whether they succeed or fail, she still does what she believes in and I?ll always respect her for that.?
The craziness around their marriage: ?A lot of the things they said about us at the time were exaggerated. It wasn?t as crazy as people wrote about it.?
The vial-of-blood necklaces: ?The necklaces were a very simple thing, ?Hey let?s poke our fingers with a pen and smear a little blood on there and when we?re away from each other we?ll wear the necklace.? It was that easy. But by the time it came out in the press it sounded like we were wearing a bucket of blood around our necks.?
Why they split: ?We just had different lifestyles. Hers is a global lifestyle and mine is an agoraphobic lifestyle. So that?s really, that?s the only reason we?re probably not still together, maybe. There was a different path in life we wanted to take.?

He?s clarified all this before they never wore ?vials of blood? as necklaces. They grew apart pretty organically as Jolie changed and ?grew up? and became exposed to the work of the United Nations High Commission on Refugees. She adopted Maddox, and it seemed like BBT wasn?t all that interested. In general though, it doesn?t seem like they ever hated each other. They just grew apart, and they still check in with each other and like each other. Just my opinion: for Angelina, I think ?the one who got away? was always Jonny Lee Miller, her first husband. They were too young when they met, but if she found a guy like JLM right now, I bet she would fall hard for him.

A few weeks ago, Brad Pitt and his team seemed to have a public hissy fit about Angelina Jolie for some reason. Angelina has full (temporary) custody of the six Jolie-Pitt kids. As far as we know, Brad has limited visitation, but I think the child psychiatrist has recommended that the kids make their own decisions about what they?re comfortable with. In any case, Angelina scheduled her big return to the screen with Maleficent 2, which has been filming in England for a month or longer. We kept hearing that she brought all of the kids with her, to stay throughout her film shoot. Brad?s hissy fit was about that, only ?sources? made it sound like Brad had ?blocked? Angelina from traveling with the kids. When? she was already in England with them. And now to just underline the point, Angelina spent her 43rd birthday in London with all six kids.
Angelina Jolie celebrated turning 43 on Monday in the best way possible: riding a roller coaster! The Oscar winner ? who?s currently filming Maleficent 2 in London ? marked her big day by treating all six of her children to some thrill rides at Thorpe Park on the outskirts of the British capital. This included strapping herself info the Nemesis Inferno ? a 2,460ft, 50mph coaster themed around an erupting tropical volcano, which features four vertical flips.
?I?d just come off the Nemesis and Angelina was standing right next to us with her family and her bodyguard,? a source tells PEOPLE. ?She had her arm around her daughter Zahara and was having a real laugh with her under her very big sunglasses. Lots of people were trying to take a picture but her bodyguard politely asked people not to because she was with her children. She just seemed really happy and was laughing pretty much all the time!?
After spinning upside down on the ride, Jolie enjoyed one of the amusement park?s game stands with daughters Zahara, 13, Shiloh, 12, and 9-year old twins Vivienne and Knox, who was ?carrying a giant toy snake,? adds the source Together with brothers Maddox, 16, Pax, 14, all six of Jolie?s children are in the UK while their mom films Disney?s fantasy sequel with co-star Elle Fanning.

What a good mom she takes her kids to an amusement park on HER birthday. I mean, I?m sure a lot of adults enjoy amusement parks and would want to go there for their birthdays. Me? I am a gigantic barfy scaredy cat who cannot handle roller coasters. I will seriously vom on you if you try to make me ride anything that moves more than the Disney World teacups (and even then, I got dizzy). Anyway, happy belated birthday to Angelina and I hope she had a great time with ALL SIX KIDS in England. Sorry not sorry Brad.

I?ve been an Angelina Jolie fan for so long, I remember when her skin wasn?t that great. It was in 1990s, when she was breezing by on ?being in her early 20s? and not really taking care of herself. But at some point, she went clean and started taking better care of herself. Her skin improved drastically. I also remember when she had a lovely tan most of the time, but in her mid-30s and beyond, she?s gone all-in with being as pale as possible. Anyway, Angelina revealed the name of her dermatologist in a recent interview, and now she?s given her dermy permission to speak about her (Jolie?s) skin care over the years. The dermatologist?s name is Rhonda Rand, and I actually found this interview rather fascinating. You can read the full piece here at Refinery29. Some highlights:
Rand says Jolie keeps it simple & natural: When [Jolie] knew she was going to have an acting career, she wanted to take care of her skin in the most sensible way. She?s lucky she has her mom?s beautiful, olive skin. She?s always been such a natural beauty, so she didn?t ever have to do much. It was really just sunscreen, proper cleansing with a mild, gentle cleanser, antioxidants, sometimes glycolic [acids], and natural products. Some alpha hydroxy [acids] are good too, and they?re very natural. She doesn?t need major scrubs or products with lots of chemicals.
Jolie doesn?t wear a lot of makeup: The thing about [Jolie] is she never wears makeup unless she?s working ? it?s probably another reason her skin looks good. She?s also good about removing makeup. I know her makeup artist is super careful about what she puts on her skin and takes good care of it when shes working.
She wears sunscreen: She?s olive skinned like her mom, but it?s not like she lets herself get dark. She?s been so good about using sunscreen from such an early age to protect her skin. She knew that the sun is not good for skin in general ? in terms of pigmentation problems and that sort of thing. She?s also good about wearing hats, which is so important. She hydrates a lot and does a lot of good moisturizing, but again, it?s the sun protection that?s going to stop you from aging more than anything.
What Jolie does get done: I basically try not to do too much. There?s a light laser resurfacing we like to use sometimes, but just once in a while. It?s used to improve your skin and give it a little bit of a glow, but it?s a little more than a facial. When she was pregnant, she got a little pigmentation. And sometimes, when she?s in very sunny climates working, she can get some pigmentation, too. We can help take care of that with a photofacial or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). We?re super careful. None of these things change the quality of your skin or cause scarring. She doesnt have any kind of a plastic look because [she] doesn?t do anything drastic ? she doesn?t need it. She has really good genes and gets more and more beautiful with time.
How early menopause affected her skin: Every woman goes through menopause, some women do at 48, some at 53. Yes it?s true that Angelina experienced forced menopause a little bit earlier. But if you take care of your skin, it?s going to look so much better. Even through the menopause changes, as long as you moisturize and use some good, quality products like antioxidants, alphy hydroxys, or maybe retinol ? those things are all great for your skin.

Rand wasn?t asked or perhaps she declined to answer any questions about whether Jolie gets a little something extra in the way of Botox or any kind of injectible. Rand would be the person to ask, right? Or do Hollywood women go to someone different for their Botox needs? There have been moments where I?ve thought Angelina was getting a little something extra done, just a ?sprinkle? of Botox on her forehead, anything like that. But whatever she does, she doesn?t overdo it and she?s not wandering around with a Muppet-face.
Also: I do think Angelina goes without makeup a lot. She?s never been big on ?needing to be made up? or anything. And speaking as someone who stopped wearing makeup long ago? it does improve your skin. My skin got so much better when I broke the cycle of wearing makeup to cover breakouts.
