In May, we learned that Judge John Ouderkirk had made a tentative ruling in Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt?s years-long custody battle. The specific details of the ruling were not explained in the press, but we do know that Brad was given ?more custody? over the minor Jolie-Pitt children. We also know that Angelina was extremely pissed off about how everything went down in the custody trial. Apparently, Judge Ouderkirk refused to allow the Jolie-Pitt kids to testify about how they felt and what they wanted. There were reports that Maddox who is now old enough to not be covered in custodial proceedings testified against Brad during the trial, but it doesn?t seem like any of the other kids were allowed to. Well, Jolie is appealing the ruling and there?s some kind of hearing happening in July. The issue of whether the kids will testify is the centerpiece of Jolie?s appeal:
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been locked in a battle over custody of their children since their divorce was finalized in 2019, and a newly uncovered document shows the fight could have been even more complicated. Lawyers for the Maleficent star, 46, filed a document in December 2020 claiming that three of her six children with Pitt, 57, wanted to testify against him during the proceedings. The former couple share Maddox, 19, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 15, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 12.
?The children whose custody is at issue are old enough to understand what is going on,? the document obtained by Us Weekly reads. ?The trial is necessarily going to impact them emotionally. Three of the children have asked to testify. To make any of the children endure what may be a futile and void proceeding is beyond unjustified. It is cruel.?
The document was filed as part of Jolie?s ongoing attempt to have Judge John Ouderkerk removed from the case because of his alleged connections to Pitt?s legal team. The actress? lawyers argued that the children shouldn?t have even been put in the position to want to testify because the judge should have been disqualified.
Earlier this year, Jolie filed additional documents alleging that the judge refused to hear evidence she believed was pertinent to the case, including her children?s testimonies. ?Judge Ouderkirk denied Ms. Jolie a fair trial, improperly excluding her evidence relevant to the children?s health, safety, and welfare, evidence critical to making her case,? the documents claimed.
According to court records, a hearing is scheduled for July 9. The activist wants to use the appeal to ?demonstrate clear, reversible, prejudicial legal error? on the part of Ouderkirk. Jolie?s appeal will be heard by a three-justice panel and attorneys for both parties will be given time to present their arguments.
[From Us Weekly]
Okay, let?s see. Back in December, Angelina told the court that three of the kids were ready to testify in their custody trial. Angelina argued that it would be grossly irresponsible to allow them to do so if the trial was going to be null and void anyway, because of the series of disastrous decisions made by Judge Ouderkirk. Angelina knew she was going to appeal Ouderkirk?s ruling even then, because she was so pissed off about the way he was handling the case. I?m incredibly curious about the shenanigans involving Pitt?s lawyers and the judge, and just how much business they give Ouderkirk and what kind of backroom deals are happening. Sounds like Angelina is curious too.

We genuinely don?t know many details about Judge John Ouderkirk?s ruling in Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt?s custody battle. We heard that Brad won significantly more custody over the minor children, but sources suggested that the ruling is ?tentative.? We know that Angelina is mad at the system and the judge, and she?s appealing Ouderkirk?s decision mostly on the basis of Ouderkirk?s refusal to allow the minor children to testify. We know that Brad?s team has run around telling many outlets that the judge believes Angelina ?lacks credibility.? And we know that Angelina thinks Brad is disgusting for ?gloating? about beating the system. So what now?
Angelina Jolie is not happy with the court?s decision to award Brad Pitt joint custody of their children, an insider reveals exclusively in the new issue of Us Weekly.
The Eternals star, 45, is ?bitterly disappointed? after Judge John Ouderkirk ruled in favor of her ex-husband, 57, earlier this month. ?Angelina?s testimony lacked credibility,? the source adds. ?The decision was based on extensive testimonies from people who spent time with the kids and by highly respected professionals.?
On May 13, the judge issued a temporary ruling giving the duo shared custody of the children excluding Maddox, who is no longer a minor. Pitt was ?delighted? by the decision, the insider says, but Jolie is already planning her next move.
?She will never forgive him,? the source says, adding that she will use ?everything she?s got? to appeal the arrangement. ?She maintains it?s far from over and still believes that justice will prevail.?
[From Us Weekly]
I?ve read the theories that Angelina has tried, from the beginning, to merely draw this out as long as possible so that the children would be able to spend these years with the monitors in place and limited visitation for Brad. I think there?s something to that theory, but I also think Brad was doing the most to screw over Jolie behind the scenes, and he?s been slow-walking parts of their divorce as well. Plus, Angelina actually thought she could spend the money and fight for what was right for the kids and she genuinely didn?t think she?d get screwed over by a judge in league with Brad?s lawyers. Still, it seems less personal at this point I doubt Angelina is like ?I hate Brad, I?ll never forgive him.? She?s focused more on what happens next legally.
PS? NBC News published this very good essay about why Angelina is fighting the good fight about wanting her kids to testify in their custody trial. Go here to read.

Angelina Jolie is promoting Those Who Wish Me Dead, a film which looks like a somewhat straight-forward action vehicle for Jolie. Like, if they switched the gender of the lead character, I could easily see Liam Neeson or Bruce Willis playing a ?fire jumper? and protecting a traumatized kid. To promote the movie, Jolie recently chatted with Sydney Morning Herald?s Sunday Life magazine. She worked with an Aussie child actor in the film, and she?s very complimentary of him (and he adored her too). She also chats about her mom, representation on film and a lot more. Some highlights:
On playing badass women on screen: ?There are times when it?s the first time somebody takes a step and shows that ? whether it be a woman, a man, somebody ? they can do something different. Somebody pushes the boundary, then says this can also be done this way, or this gender can also do this. Then you push those boundaries and tell those stories, and you look for other stories to tell ? you don?t want to just repeat the same message.?
On the need for wider representation of badass women: ?It?s an interesting question. It?s a deep question. Particularly for women: what is the representation that?s not yet been shown on screen? Who is a woman and what is a woman capable of? There?s a lot to discover, there?s a lot that?s yet to be represented, and there?s a space being created right now that is not yet there. There?s a lot of trauma behind the strong women in a lot of these roles, and it will be nice to get to a place where we?re also in our maternity, in our femininity, strong and intelligent and not fighting to survive.?
Her late mother Marcheline Bertrand: ?My mother was very gentle. I can be many things in my work and in life, but I am very warm and gentle with my children. That kindness and warmth is a foundation that?s unbelievably important. She gave me many other things and taught me many lessons. But if you don?t have that base, to feel valued and safe, then it?s hard for any of the other messages or lessons to land. I hope that I?ve been able to be that [for my own children], that I?m that warm, safe place. Because ? and it?s maybe a funny thing to say ? but considering what my different jobs are, or what people think they know of you, or what you feel you have to be in the world, in truth none of those things are what you really are. Who you are to the children is everything.?
Her character in Those Who Wish Me Dead: ?She?s intentionally reckless and clearly is not functioning well. If the path this film takes her on didn?t happen, I?m not sure she would have recovered from what she?s carrying. And that is a lot. Not to get heavy, but I?ve been to places where there are different groups of people being treated ? those who had physical injuries or were harmed, and this other group, those who had to participate in harming others as part of their torture. The damage was so clear, but the mental-health trauma, you can?t see it. Those who do those types of jobs, anybody on the front line, you just never know what they?re going through when you look at them. So in this story, which is not as heavy and depressing as I?m making it sound, these people, you throw them together and you light a fire and you see who makes it through.?
Working with Aussie child actor Finn Little: ?We?d both be very serious actors on set, but also have play dates on the weekends with my kids and go hang out all the time. So part of our work, if you will, was just playing paintball or swimming. So our professional bonding was just a lot of fun, being friends.?
Respect frontline workers all the time: ?When there are fires, we seem to honour the firemen, and during the pandemic we?ve been very supportive and focused on those in the hospitals and on that front line. You?d hope these things continue regardless of what is happening in the world. It shouldn?t have to take a large fire to respect a fireman, or a pandemic to respect a nurse.?
She doesn?t mind a dangerous situation: ?I?m a bad person to ask. Maybe it?s something that?s off about me, but I tend to walk into slightly dangerous situations and be the last to panic. So I didn?t feel like I was in danger during filming. I didn?t feel like it was too much. There were certainly times when it got really hot, very fast, and we had to all move to the other side. Again, being with Finn, it did something different, because when you?re next to a child, you?re so hyper-focused. So when the bullets and shrapnel were flying, all I could think about was his eyes and keeping them covered. When we?re in situations near the fire, or in the river surrounded by fire, I had my eye on him. But I will say that he?s an Aussie, and tough, so there was no real need for me to be concerned for him. He wasn?t afraid of anything.?
[From Sydney Morning Herald]
She?s dead-on about Aussies being tough as hell. I?ve seen the spiders, snakes and Aussie creatures y?all seem to live with on a daily basis. Finn was probably like ?whatever, it?s fine, I see more danger from the spiders in my house.? I also enjoy the fact that Jolie is working with more child actors as she gets older, and she seems so maternal with them. She?s practically ready to adopt all of those kids. As for what she says about her mom and hoping she provides the kind of safe space to her children which her mom provided her? I think she?s absolutely like that. It?s a little bit weird to think about who she was, like, 22 years ago? The goth girl who didn?t give a fk, the rebel without a cause. And now she?s so much like her mom.
Here are some pics of Angelina & Vivienne out in April.

| Angelina Jolie says her divorce judge refused to allow the Jolie-Pitt kids to testify | Added 3 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt?s divorce proceeding will turn five years old in September. From what we can see of the slow-moving divorce, it has been enormously contentious, mainly around the custody issues of their children. Although I?d be curious to learn if they?ve handled the financial aspects of their divorce, because I think that is still on-going as well. For years now, Brad and Angelina have been employing a private judge, Judge John Ouderkirk, to oversee their divorce proceedings. Last year, Angelina tried to have the judge kicked off the case because her lawyer discovered that Ouderkirk had been doing business with Pitt?s lawyers for years and Ouderkirk had failed to disclose that to the court. Ouderkirk fought the issue and refused to recuse himself from the case. And now that same judge is refusing to allow the Jolie-Pitt children testify in court and Angelina is calling him out, yet again.
Angelina Jolie criticized a judge deciding on custody arrangements for her and Brad Pitt?s children during their divorce, saying in a court filing that the judge refused to allow their kids to testify. Jolie, who has sought to disqualify Judge John Ouderkirk from the divorce case, said in the filing Monday that he declined to hear evidence she says is relevant to the children?s safety and well-being before issuing a tentative ruling. The documents don?t elaborate on what that evidence may be.
?Judge Ouderkirk denied Ms. Jolie a fair trial, improperly excluding her evidence relevant to the children?s health, safety, and welfare, evidence critical to making her case,? according to the filing in California?s Second District Court of Appeal.
The actress also said the judge ?has failed to adequately consider? a section of the California courts code, which says it is detrimental to the best interest of the child if custody is awarded to a person with a history of domestic violence. Her filing did not give details about what it was referring to, but her lawyers submitted a document under seal in March that purportedly offers additional information.
Her new filing says the judge has ?refused to hear the minor teenagers? input as to their experiences, needs, or wishes as to their custody fate,? citing a California code that says a child 14 or over should be allowed to testify if they want to. Three of Jolie and Pitt?s six children are teenagers, 17-year-old Pax, 16-year-old Zahara, and 14-year-old Shiloh. The oldest, Maddox, is 19 and not subject to the custody decision. They also have 12-year-old twins, Vivienne and Knox.
In response to Jolie?s filing, Pitt?s attorneys said, ?Ouderkirk has conducted an extensive proceeding over the past six months in a thorough, fair manner and reached a tentative ruling and order after hearing from experts and percipient witnesses.?
Pitt?s filing said the judge found Jolie?s testimony ?lacked credibility in many important areas, and the existing custody order between the parties must be modified, per Mr. Pitt?s request, in the best interests of the children.? It says Jolie?s objections and further delays in reaching an arrangement would ?work grave harm upon the children, who will be further denied permanence and stability.?
It?s not clear what the current custody arrangement is because the court seals most files. When the divorce process began, Jolie sought primary physical custody ? meaning the children would live more than half the time with her ? but changes have been made that have not been made public. Pitt sought joint custody.
Others close to Jolie say her family struggles have prompted her to take a more active role in changing the law?s approach to custody issues. ?Ms. Jolie has been working privately for four and a half years to both heal her family and to fight for improvements to the system to ensure that other families do not experience what hers has endured,? Peter Harvey, an attorney and former attorney general of New Jersey who has been working with Jolie on policy issues, told The Associated Press.
Jolie has sought to disqualify Ouderkirk, a private judge she and Pitt chose to maintain their privacy, arguing that he has an improper business relationship with one of Pitt?s attorneys. She said in Monday?s filing that if the tentative custody decision is made final by Ouderkirk, she will appeal it.
[From Page Six]
So, Jolie?s filing says that the custody trial/hearing is a failure because Ouderkirk failed to allow the Jolie-Pitt children to testify about how they feel about their parents. Pitt?s response is that Jolie is just generally a liar. Yeah, this is a fking mess and Ouderkirk should have recused himself last year. I?m curious as to what is contained in the sealed documents but I bet it?s horrific. Pitt does not want any of this going public, which is why he?s still ride-or-die for Ouderkirk, who is clearly partial to his main employer, the law firm representing Brad Pitt.

Angelina Jolie has been doing old-fashioned promo for her new film, Those Who Wish Me Dead. Like, she?s doing a real junket! Most in-person junkets were cancelled during the pandemic, and everything was moved over to Zoom, but Jolie has done in-person interviews to support this film. I guess everyone is vaccinated? She chatted with E! News about being a mom of six, how her children are very cool (which I believe) and how she?s pretty picky when it comes to relationships now.
On her kids: I have six very capable children. Of course you wake up and you just feel like, Ive got to make sure theyre OK. Ive got to make sure theyre mentally OK, but honestly I think a few years ago it switched and theyre thinking, Ive got to make sure moms OK.
She & the kids are tight: Jolies teens dont just take care of her; rather, theyre a very close family unit. Were such a team so I am very, very lucky, Jolie emphasized. Im always the one who worries but I dont worry about them. Theyre cool people.
On suitors: The multitalented A-lister teased that she is picky when it comes to suitors. I probably have a very long list [of 'nos']. Ive been alone for a long time now, Jolie joked.
[From E! News]
Has Angelina been alone since she left Brad? I suspect that she might have been asked out, or maybe had a coffee date here or there, but yeah? nothing serious. Dating wasn?t her priority. Her kids were her priority. Still, I?d love to see her open herself up for another relationship. Maybe when the divorce is finalized?
Jolie also sat down with CBS This Morning to talk about the movie. I enjoyed this interview even if there?s no real gossip here.

Angelina Jolie?s fire-and-mayhem movie, Those Who Wish Me Dead, comes out in theaters and HBO Max on May 14. I keep hoping that Jolie will have done some major magazine interview to promote the movie, her first on-camera starring role since Maleficent: Mistress of Evil in 2019. (I guess she was on camera for Come Away last year, but no one saw that movie and I think her role was more supporting than lead.) While Angelina seems proud of this movie, she?s also being honest about why she?s taking more straight-up acting jobs these days: because she wants shorter jobs and she likely needs the money. But, as Jolie explains to Entertainment Tonight, she?s not just taking any old acting gig. She has to be drawn to the characters, and the characters have to be broken.
Those Who Wish Me Dead marks Angelina Jolies return to true onscreen action in more than a decade. But for the actress, the human side of the movie is what drew her to the project, as she reveals in an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the thriller.
I am drawn to people who have been through something and are broken and then find their way forward and overcome it, Jolie says on set. As an artist, its very healing to play people like that. Shes been very healing for me, because you just get so broken and then you stand back up.
In Those Who Wish Me Dead, which hails from writer-director Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone), she plays Hannah Faber, a smoke jumper grappling with PTSD after experiencing a tragedy on the job that she personally holds herself responsible for. Shes a very broken person who carries a great deal of guilt, Jolie says.
When Hannah comes across a hapless 12-year-old boy (Finn Little) after hes unwittingly witnessed a murder, she takes it upon herself to protect him from the pursuing hitmen and the fire that soon rages around them. Jolie trained four days a week for the role and did many of her own stunts on set, as well as learning the skills required of a real-life fire jumper.
On its surface, it feels like a great thriller, a great adventure across an unusual terrain inside a great fire, she explains. Underneath it, its a really emotional film. Its about people who have a great impact on each other and change each other. Emotionally and practically, they go through the fire.
[From ET]
Yeah, she?s partly just embiggening a somewhat straight-forward action-adventure-thriller movie with lots of action sequences and pyrotechnics. But I buy that even with action movies, Angelina is looking to connect with her character, and those connections are being forged through her own traumas and guilt and pain. Brad really put her through some sh-t and it feels like it?s taken her this long, nearly five years, to really figure out who she is post-Pitt, following all of that toxicity and abuse.

For much of the past year, Angelina Jolie has been in lockdown in LA. Jolie is famously infected with wanderlust, so I imagine it?s been difficult for her to stay in one place for months on end, without even being able to visit refugee camps. She?s been home-schooling her younger kids, doing Zoom calls with Time Magazine and writing. As it turns out, she?s also been shopping with some regularity. Perhaps supporting the local economy in LA. These photos are of Angelina and Zahara, who just turned 16 years old on January 8th. I can?t believe it! I remember when all of Angelina?s kids were babies and now she?s got one kid in college (Maddox) and Zahara is 16! And Pax is 17! Crazy.
Anyway, Angelina loves to take her kids shopping and it?s not like they?re regulars on Rodeo Drive or anything. She?s always taken the kids shopping at art supply stores and regular shops. She and Zahara were seen exiting a Target, for goodness sake. Also: I?ve always thought that Zahara was more fashionable than her mom, but it looks like Angelina has been doing some online shopping or something. Her outfit is pretty chic, while Zahara is just in regular old athleisure.
I also missed these photos of Angelina out shopping at an Ethiopian boutique in LA on the 8th. Many believe that she was picking up some stuff for Zahara for her birthday. Zahara was on that shopping excursion too, as was? Shiloh? Is that Shiloh or is that Vivienne? When they?re wearing masks, I can?t tell. I think it?s Shiloh, maybe.

Angelina Jolie spent her adult life traveling the world, working on issues with and around refugees. We?re coming up on her 20-year anniversary as an ambassador to the United Nations High Commission on Refugees. But even Angelina Jolie, more worldly and self-educated than the average person, seemed sort of surprised by the domestic injustices pulled into sharper relief because of the pandemic. Like, I?m not sure she even realized just how stark the food insecurity situation was in America before this year. And she?s spent much of this year speaking about the increase in violence against women globally because of the pandemic. She gave a (virtual) speech on that subject at the 2nd International Conference on Action with Women and Peace in Seoul, where she said ?The truth is, a womans life does not rank equally with a mans, far more universally than we are willing to admit.Conflict-

|
Over the past few years, Angelina Jolie has been getting back to work in front of the camera. She did the second Maleficent movie. She did voice work for a Disney film. She signed on to The Eternals. She filmed Come Away with David Oyelowo. She filmed Those Who Wish Me Dead, and she?s in preproduction on Every Note Played. Considering she mostly stepped away from acting work in the last years of her relationship with/marriage to Brad Pitt, it felt like Angelina was making a point to show that she was still an in-demand actress. I also think that she probably wanted to put away some money and she was happy for the paychecks.
In those years that she stepped away from acting, she spoke a lot about how she was more focused on directing and producing. She hasn?t directed a film since First They Killed My Father, which was based on Loung Ung?s true story/memoir. Now Angelina is doing another bio-pic type film she?s signed on to direct Unreasonable Behaviour.
Angelina Jolie (Unbroken) has signed on to direct Unreasonable Behaviour, a biopic of legendary British war photographer Don McCullin, based on his autobiography of the same title. The film is being produced by Tom Hardy and Dean Baker under their Hardy Son & Baker banner (Taboo) alongside Working Title Films? Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (Darkest Hour). McCullin and Mark George are exec producing. No word on casting yet.
BAFTA-nominated screenwriter Gregory Burke (?71) is writing the screenplay. The autobiography is an unflinching account of the celebrated British war photographer?s life, which took him from poverty-stricken, wartime London to some of the world?s most dangerous war zones. Best known for his often harrowing black and white images taken in Vietnam and Cambodia whilst working for The Observer and The Sunday Times Newspapers, McCullin risked his life to capture the images of war which continue to resonate to this day.
?I am humbled to have a chance to bring Don McCullin?s life to film,? said Jolie in a statement. ?I was drawn to his unique combination of fearlessness and humanity ? his absolute commitment to witnessing the truth of war, and his empathy and respect for those who suffer its consequences. We hope to make a film that is as uncompromising as Don?s photography, about the extraordinary people and events he witnessed, and the rise and fall of a unique era in journalism?.
Don McCullin added: ?Having viewed Angelina?s last film on Cambodia (and having spent so much time during the war there) I was very impressed at how she made such a powerful and accurate representation of the place at that time. I feel as if I am in safe, capable and professional hands with her.?
?Don McCullin is someone that we?ve long held a deep and profound respect for,? commented HSB?s Hardy and Baker jointly. ?His remarkable story is one of brutal honesty, unflinching courage, and unbound empathy. Angelina has carved a considered approach to the material that we?ve all been looking for ? relevant and compelling, ethically sensitive and engaging. We are excited by her vision and look forward to supporting her depiction of a man who deserves to be remembered for his extraordinary contribution, service, and lifelong work to humanity.?
[From Deadline]
I?ll be sort of honest, if you asked me if I thought Tom Hardy would ever sign off on producing a bio-pic directed by a woman, I would have said, flatly, ?no.? Hardy never seemed like the type to actively seek projects with women in front of or behind the camera. That was especially notable with his grumpypants routine all the way around Mad Max: Fury Road (a feminist masterpiece). Considering Hardy?s involvement on the producing side, I also think that he wants to star in the lead role. Let?s see what Director Jolie says about that. Anyway, I?m interested in this project and I hope it doesn?t turn into a slog. I love her, but Unbroken was brutal (well-directed, but brutal) and I hope she follows her strengths.
Meanwhile, here?s an update on the Jolie-Pitt divorce: Judge Ouderkirk really is staying on their case, even after Team Jolie?s attempt to have him removed. I truly have no idea what that means or how it will affect the divorce trial.

Just some Angelina Jolie updates, there are some smaller pieces of news making the rounds about her. First off, she?s written another Time essay, this time about the pandemic and what?s happening during the pandemic with women and women?s rights you can read the piece here. Jolie is a Time contributor and during the lockdown, she?s been doing a lot of Zooms with and for Time Magazine.
The trailer for Angelina?s latest movie has been released. The film is called Come Away, and it?s based on the characters from Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan. She stars with David Oyelowo. I guess this is supposed to be a straight-up kids movie or family movie, but I?m not 100% sure the kids will really understand all of the Alice and Peter Pan references?
At least we get to hear Angelina?s British accent again. Like in Lara Croft, or her hokey accent in Maleficent, or any of the other accents she?s attempted over the years. I love her but accent work isn?t her strength! The rest of it looks? I don?t know, like a really strange concept for a film? Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland weren?t even written by the same author!
Meanwhile, Angelina?s in talks for a straight-up Oscar-bait drama:
Angelina Jolie and Christoph Waltz are in talks to star in ?Every Note Played,? an adaptation of Lisa Genova?s contemporary romance novel. STX Films has acquired global rights to the movie.
Jolie will play Karina, the ex-wife of an accomplished concert pianist named Richard (portrayed by Waltz). He has suffered many losses, including the estrangement of his daughter, when he gets diagnosed with ALS in his hands. As the disease worsens and Richard can no longer play the piano or live on his own, Karina reluctantly steps in to be his caregiver.
Genova?s best-selling novel ?Still Alice? inspired the 2014 film, which landed star Julianne Moore her first Oscar.
[From Variety]
Still Alice was a great movie and Julianne really deserved the Oscar for it. I?m personally not into Christph Waltz as an actor that much, but it would be interesting to see him paired with Angelina. Hm.
