Angelina Jolie is very picky about men: 'I?ve been alone for a long time now'
Angelina Jolie has been doing old-fashioned promo for her new film, Those Who Wish Me Dead. Like, she?s doing a real junket! Most in-person junkets were cancelled during the pandemic, and everything was moved over to Zoom, but Jolie has done in-person interviews to support this film. I guess everyone is vaccinated? She chatted with E! News about being a mom of six, how her children are very cool (which I believe) and how she?s pretty picky when it comes to relationships now.

On her kids: I have six very capable children. Of course you wake up and you just feel like, Ive got to make sure theyre OK. Ive got to make sure theyre mentally OK, but honestly I think a few years ago it switched and theyre thinking, Ive got to make sure moms OK.

She & the kids are tight: Jolies teens dont just take care of her; rather, theyre a very close family unit. Were such a team so I am very, very lucky, Jolie emphasized. Im always the one who worries but I dont worry about them. Theyre cool people.

On suitors: The multitalented A-lister teased that she is picky when it comes to suitors. I probably have a very long list [of 'nos']. Ive been alone for a long time now, Jolie joked.

[From E! News]

Has Angelina been alone since she left Brad? I suspect that she might have been asked out, or maybe had a coffee date here or there, but yeah? nothing serious. Dating wasn?t her priority. Her kids were her priority. Still, I?d love to see her open herself up for another relationship. Maybe when the divorce is finalized?

Jolie also sat down with CBS This Morning to talk about the movie. I enjoyed this interview even if there?s no real gossip here.

Angelina Jolie: 'You just get so broken and then you stand back up'

Angelina Jolie: 'You just get so broken and then you stand back up'
Angelina Jolie?s fire-and-mayhem movie, Those Who Wish Me Dead, comes out in theaters and HBO Max on May 14. I keep hoping that Jolie will have done some major magazine interview to promote the movie, her first on-camera starring role since Maleficent: Mistress of Evil in 2019. (I guess she was on camera for Come Away last year, but no one saw that movie and I think her role was more supporting than lead.) While Angelina seems proud of this movie, she?s also being honest about why she?s taking more straight-up acting jobs these days: because she wants shorter jobs and she likely needs the money. But, as Jolie explains to Entertainment Tonight, she?s not just taking any old acting gig. She has to be drawn to the characters, and the characters have to be broken.

Those Who Wish Me Dead marks Angelina Jolies return to true onscreen action in more than a decade. But for the actress, the human side of the movie is what drew her to the project, as she reveals in an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the thriller.

I am drawn to people who have been through something and are broken and then find their way forward and overcome it, Jolie says on set. As an artist, its very healing to play people like that. Shes been very healing for me, because you just get so broken and then you stand back up.

In Those Who Wish Me Dead, which hails from writer-director Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone), she plays Hannah Faber, a smoke jumper grappling with PTSD after experiencing a tragedy on the job that she personally holds herself responsible for. Shes a very broken person who carries a great deal of guilt, Jolie says.

When Hannah comes across a hapless 12-year-old boy (Finn Little) after hes unwittingly witnessed a murder, she takes it upon herself to protect him from the pursuing hitmen and the fire that soon rages around them. Jolie trained four days a week for the role and did many of her own stunts on set, as well as learning the skills required of a real-life fire jumper.

On its surface, it feels like a great thriller, a great adventure across an unusual terrain inside a great fire, she explains. Underneath it, its a really emotional film. Its about people who have a great impact on each other and change each other. Emotionally and practically, they go through the fire.

[From ET]

Yeah, she?s partly just embiggening a somewhat straight-forward action-adventure-thriller movie with lots of action sequences and pyrotechnics. But I buy that even with action movies, Angelina is looking to connect with her character, and those connections are being forged through her own traumas and guilt and pain. Brad really put her through some sh-t and it feels like it?s taken her this long, nearly five years, to really figure out who she is post-Pitt, following all of that toxicity and abuse.

Angelina Jolie steps out with 16-year-old daughter Zahara for a Target run

Angelina Jolie steps out with 16-year-old daughter Zahara for a Target run
For much of the past year, Angelina Jolie has been in lockdown in LA. Jolie is famously infected with wanderlust, so I imagine it?s been difficult for her to stay in one place for months on end, without even being able to visit refugee camps. She?s been home-schooling her younger kids, doing Zoom calls with Time Magazine and writing. As it turns out, she?s also been shopping with some regularity. Perhaps supporting the local economy in LA. These photos are of Angelina and Zahara, who just turned 16 years old on January 8th. I can?t believe it! I remember when all of Angelina?s kids were babies and now she?s got one kid in college (Maddox) and Zahara is 16! And Pax is 17! Crazy.

Anyway, Angelina loves to take her kids shopping and it?s not like they?re regulars on Rodeo Drive or anything. She?s always taken the kids shopping at art supply stores and regular shops. She and Zahara were seen exiting a Target, for goodness sake. Also: I?ve always thought that Zahara was more fashionable than her mom, but it looks like Angelina has been doing some online shopping or something. Her outfit is pretty chic, while Zahara is just in regular old athleisure.

I also missed these photos of Angelina out shopping at an Ethiopian boutique in LA on the 8th. Many believe that she was picking up some stuff for Zahara for her birthday. Zahara was on that shopping excursion too, as was? Shiloh? Is that Shiloh or is that Vivienne? When they?re wearing masks, I can?t tell. I think it?s Shiloh, maybe.

Angelina Jolie: ' People don't want to see abuse, even when it is right in front of them'
Angelina Jolie spent her adult life traveling the world, working on issues with and around refugees. We?re coming up on her 20-year anniversary as an ambassador to the United Nations High Commission on Refugees. But even Angelina Jolie, more worldly and self-educated than the average person, seemed sort of surprised by the domestic injustices pulled into sharper relief because of the pandemic. Like, I?m not sure she even realized just how stark the food insecurity situation was in America before this year. And she?s spent much of this year speaking about the increase in violence against women globally because of the pandemic. She gave a (virtual) speech on that subject at the 2nd International Conference on Action with Women and Peace in Seoul, where she said ?The truth is, a womans life does not rank equally with a mans, far more universally than we are willing to admit.Conflict-

Angelina Jolie set to direct the Tom Hardy-produced bio-pic 'Unreasonable Behaviour'
Added 4 years agoSource: CeleBitchy
Angelina Jolie set to direct the Tom Hardy-produced bio-pic 'Unreasonable Behaviour'
Over the past few years, Angelina Jolie has been getting back to work in front of the camera. She did the second Maleficent movie. She did voice work for a Disney film. She signed on to The Eternals. She filmed Come Away with David Oyelowo. She filmed Those Who Wish Me Dead, and she?s in preproduction on Every Note Played. Considering she mostly stepped away from acting work in the last years of her relationship with/marriage to Brad Pitt, it felt like Angelina was making a point to show that she was still an in-demand actress. I also think that she probably wanted to put away some money and she was happy for the paychecks.

In those years that she stepped away from acting, she spoke a lot about how she was more focused on directing and producing. She hasn?t directed a film since First They Killed My Father, which was based on Loung Ung?s true story/memoir. Now Angelina is doing another bio-pic type film she?s signed on to direct Unreasonable Behaviour.

Angelina Jolie (Unbroken) has signed on to direct Unreasonable Behaviour, a biopic of legendary British war photographer Don McCullin, based on his autobiography of the same title. The film is being produced by Tom Hardy and Dean Baker under their Hardy Son & Baker banner (Taboo) alongside Working Title Films? Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (Darkest Hour). McCullin and Mark George are exec producing. No word on casting yet.

BAFTA-nominated screenwriter Gregory Burke (?71) is writing the screenplay. The autobiography is an unflinching account of the celebrated British war photographer?s life, which took him from poverty-stricken, wartime London to some of the world?s most dangerous war zones. Best known for his often harrowing black and white images taken in Vietnam and Cambodia whilst working for The Observer and The Sunday Times Newspapers, McCullin risked his life to capture the images of war which continue to resonate to this day.

?I am humbled to have a chance to bring Don McCullin?s life to film,? said Jolie in a statement. ?I was drawn to his unique combination of fearlessness and humanity ? his absolute commitment to witnessing the truth of war, and his empathy and respect for those who suffer its consequences. We hope to make a film that is as uncompromising as Don?s photography, about the extraordinary people and events he witnessed, and the rise and fall of a unique era in journalism?.

Don McCullin added: ?Having viewed Angelina?s last film on Cambodia (and having spent so much time during the war there) I was very impressed at how she made such a powerful and accurate representation of the place at that time. I feel as if I am in safe, capable and professional hands with her.?

?Don McCullin is someone that we?ve long held a deep and profound respect for,? commented HSB?s Hardy and Baker jointly. ?His remarkable story is one of brutal honesty, unflinching courage, and unbound empathy. Angelina has carved a considered approach to the material that we?ve all been looking for ? relevant and compelling, ethically sensitive and engaging. We are excited by her vision and look forward to supporting her depiction of a man who deserves to be remembered for his extraordinary contribution, service, and lifelong work to humanity.?

[From Deadline]

I?ll be sort of honest, if you asked me if I thought Tom Hardy would ever sign off on producing a bio-pic directed by a woman, I would have said, flatly, ?no.? Hardy never seemed like the type to actively seek projects with women in front of or behind the camera. That was especially notable with his grumpypants routine all the way around Mad Max: Fury Road (a feminist masterpiece). Considering Hardy?s involvement on the producing side, I also think that he wants to star in the lead role. Let?s see what Director Jolie says about that. Anyway, I?m interested in this project and I hope it doesn?t turn into a slog. I love her, but Unbroken was brutal (well-directed, but brutal) and I hope she follows her strengths.

Meanwhile, here?s an update on the Jolie-Pitt divorce: Judge Ouderkirk really is staying on their case, even after Team Jolie?s attempt to have him removed. I truly have no idea what that means or how it will affect the divorce trial.

Angelina Jolie is in talks to star in 'Every Note Played' with Christoph Waltz

Angelina Jolie is in talks to star in 'Every Note Played' with Christoph Waltz
Just some Angelina Jolie updates, there are some smaller pieces of news making the rounds about her. First off, she?s written another Time essay, this time about the pandemic and what?s happening during the pandemic with women and women?s rights you can read the piece here. Jolie is a Time contributor and during the lockdown, she?s been doing a lot of Zooms with and for Time Magazine.

The trailer for Angelina?s latest movie has been released. The film is called Come Away, and it?s based on the characters from Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan. She stars with David Oyelowo. I guess this is supposed to be a straight-up kids movie or family movie, but I?m not 100% sure the kids will really understand all of the Alice and Peter Pan references?

At least we get to hear Angelina?s British accent again. Like in Lara Croft, or her hokey accent in Maleficent, or any of the other accents she?s attempted over the years. I love her but accent work isn?t her strength! The rest of it looks? I don?t know, like a really strange concept for a film? Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland weren?t even written by the same author!

Meanwhile, Angelina?s in talks for a straight-up Oscar-bait drama:

Angelina Jolie and Christoph Waltz are in talks to star in ?Every Note Played,? an adaptation of Lisa Genova?s contemporary romance novel. STX Films has acquired global rights to the movie.

Jolie will play Karina, the ex-wife of an accomplished concert pianist named Richard (portrayed by Waltz). He has suffered many losses, including the estrangement of his daughter, when he gets diagnosed with ALS in his hands. As the disease worsens and Richard can no longer play the piano or live on his own, Karina reluctantly steps in to be his caregiver.

Genova?s best-selling novel ?Still Alice? inspired the 2014 film, which landed star Julianne Moore her first Oscar.

[From Variety]

Still Alice was a great movie and Julianne really deserved the Oscar for it. I?m personally not into Christph Waltz as an actor that much, but it would be interesting to see him paired with Angelina. Hm.

Angelina Jolie stepped out for a super-obvious pap stroll which was beneath her

Angelina Jolie stepped out for a super-obvious pap stroll which was beneath her
When Ben Affleck & Ana De Armas were first pap-strolling in the middle of the friggin? pandemic this spring, I was so annoyed with them. They *already* looked like giant dumbasses all on their own. Then something even more annoying happened: Ben?s ex-wife Jennifer Garner began organizing competing pap strolls with their children (and a cat in a stroller) as a way to remind everyone of her existence. Like, it was blatant celebrity ?counter-programming? to Afflarmas and it was such a ?don?t forget about meeeee? desperado move. I bring this up because, well, Angelina Jolie is pulling a Jennifer Garner. And it?s so painful. It?s painful for me to admit that, and it?s painful to see Angelina do this sh-t.

Angelina stepped out with her kids I think all of them? yesterday in LA, where they?ve all been locked down since March. They went to Nobu, an old-school celebrity hotspot and a place that (I assume) paparazzi still stake out on a regular basis. Angelina clearly knows the paparazzi are there and you can see her looking at them. She even got dressed up in a shiny copper-colored sack dress for the occasion. The point is that she wanted to be seen and photographed. She wanted these images out there, a single mother and her children, wearing masks and enjoying a dinner at Nobu.

It?s the timing. Because that?s what makes this a Garner move. Two days ago, we saw Brad Pitt begin to roll out his girlfriend, an ?Angelina Jolie look-alike? only German and 27 years old. Brad Pitt already looks like a sad douche in the throes of a nasty midlife crisis. Angelina didn?t need to underline the point. She didn?t need to do the glamorous-single-mother pap stroll. I?m so sad for her that she did this. I mean, I still love her. But damn, my girl makes some bad calls sometimes. All of the Jolie stans would have been fine with simply defending her and not seeing her at the moment.

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt's four-year divorce hampered by the pandemic

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt's four-year divorce hampered by the pandemic
Last week, People Magazine had a curious story about how Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have softened towards each other to the point where he can visit her house for hours and it doesn?t devolve into a murderous rampage. ?Sources? credited the fact that Angelina, Brad and the kids have all been in family therapy since late 2016, after the plane incident. We?re coming up on the four-year anniversary of the incident and Angelina?s divorce filing. Their divorce still isn?t completed, and the last I heard, the financial part of the divorce was the biggest sticking point, not the custodial issue of the younger kids. Again, it?s been four years so why are we hearing that the pandemic is the reason why Brad and Angelina haven?t finalized their divorce?

Pumping the brakes. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie?s ?legal matters? are being put on pause as courts grapple with the coronavirus pandemic.

?Brad is seeing the kids but everything involved in their process of resolving legal matters between Angelina and Brad, including the courts, is slowed down because of COVID,? a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. ?With the pandemic, it has been hard for everyone, including them. The legal process is slowed because of that. They are continuing regular visits but there has not been a lot of progress in terms of resolving anything.?

The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star, 56, has been spotted visiting his children at Jolie?s house twice in the past few weeks. Pitt stopped by her mansion in June and was seen leaving her home again on July 2.

A source told Us on Wednesday, July 8, that the former couple have been working on their coparenting relationship for the sake of their children. Pitt and Jolie, 45, are the parents of Maddox, 18, Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 12, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 11.

?Brad and Angelina have continued to navigate a path forward for their children,? the insider explained. ?There has been progress.?

[From Us Weekly]

I shared my thoughts about why it feels like Angelina has been slow-walking the divorce process it?s because the longer this takes, the older the kids are and the more likely the court will say that they can make their own decisions about whether to see Brad. I could be wrong! I definitely think there are lots of financial shenanigans happening too, in that Brad has been putting up a fight about a full financial disclosure to Angelina. Still, the larger point remains? it?s been almost four years. The pandemic can?t be blamed on all of this.

Here are some photos of Brad arriving to Angelina Jolie?s gated community. I mean, the photo agency claims that?s him and that must be the BMW bike we?ve heard so much about (the same one he was riding around the BLM protest a few weeks ago). The jeans? wow. The wash and a rolled-up cuff? I?m sure he rolled up the cuffs because of something to do with driving a motorcycle, but the effect is not very cool.

Angelina Jolie: Women are 'nurturing by nature, community-building by nature'

Angelina Jolie: Women are 'nurturing by nature, community-building by nature'
Angelina Jolie took part in another Zoom call about important issues. She?s been doing this throughout the lockdown, doing Zoom calls with charities and Zooming on behalf of Time Magazine (where she has a columnist gig). This week, she Zoomed with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, in a conversation moderated by (sad clown noise) Mika Brzezinski. It was for the National Democratic Institute, and they spoke about women in power, women and girls understanding their political and social power and more:

During a discussion with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright moderated by Mika Brzezinski for the National Democratic Institute, Jolie said that there are many societal factors holding women back. During a portion of the conversation shared by NDI on Twitter Wednesday, Albright said a profound result of empowering women around that world is women that are able to make a political difference by running for office and being part of the decision-making mechanism.

Brzezinski added that its amazing to see what can happen when women are told of their value ? something that inspired Jolie to chime in.

Women contribute so much, they are giving, are nurturing by nature, are community-building by nature, are strong, are intelligent, and yet what is it thats holding us back? the actress, 45, said. I think when you speak of value, thats something to really sit with. Why is it that so many women still dont know their own value? What is it thats been done to us, whether it be the rapes and the lack of accountability for the rape, whether it be domestic violence, whether it be this question where we still, we still are saying, Please stop hurting me, and Please hold someone to account if they hurt me.

[From People]

A minor quibble, but I loathe the stereotype that women are ?nurturing? by nature. I do feel like there are completely fair generalizations to be made about women being natural community-builders, and women being just as intelligent, strong and capable as men. Completely fair. But I think ?nurturing? is more of a societal norm, a gendered expectation that we teach girls, that we show girls that they have to care, to nurture, to empathize and we don?t teach boys the same thing. Im sure some will disagree! It?s an interesting debate to have and I enjoy the fact that Angelina and Maddy Albright are doing it.

Angelina Jolie: Americans are 'not taught enough' to respect other cultures & histories
Angelina Jolie has written another Time Magazine column, because that?s what she does now! She?s still in lockdown in LA, and Angelina has had time (like never before) to write columns and letters, Zoom with editors and charities and generally try to keep her work going on refugees, women?s rights and children?s rights. In this week?s Time column, Angelina writes about how, even in this moment of a global conversation about racism, we need to think about refugees. Refugees are often the victims of racism, bigotry, sexism and persecution too. You can read her piece here. An excerpt:

As the burning injustice of discrimination and racism in America bursts to the forefront, we must also address persecution and oppression rising globally, depriving millions of their rights, their liberty and their physical safety. The U.N. Refugee Agency has published its latest annual report on the state of human displacement in the world and it is stark reading. Nearly 80 million people?the highest number since records began, according to available data?have been forced from their homes by extreme persecution and violence, and are living as refugees, asylum seekers or people displaced within their own countries. For the first time, forced displacement is affecting more than one percent of humanity, or 1 in every 97 people.

These are people fleeing attacks on schools and hospitals, mass sexual violence, the siege and starvation of whole cities, the murderous oppression of terrorist groups, and decades of institutionalized persecution based on religion, gender or sexuality.

It is not just the overall number of forcibly displaced people that is shocking. More people are being forced to leave their homes on a larger scale in more places and at one of the fastest rates in living memory. Global displacement has almost doubled since 2010. The number of refugees in sub-Saharan Africa has tripled in the same period. And the number of countries where the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is working to support internally-displaced people has gone from 15 in 2005 to 33 today. This is before the full economic devastation of COVID-19 strikes, threatening hunger and starvation and deeper insecurity for millions.

Several factors seem to be at play. This past decade began with a global recession that has fueled hardship and anger and discontent. Many countries and communities around the world have shown extraordinary generosity to refugees living in their midst. But even as, across the world, refugee medics, nurses and healthcare workers serve on the frontline of the COVID-19 response, refugees are often regarded as a burden, greeted with xenophobia and racism, and denigrated and dehumanized in politics and the media.

We are quick to criticize the human rights records of adversaries but silent when conflicts creating displacement and misery involve our allies. When we start to pick and choose which countries or peoples we help, from our humanitarian assistance to our asylum policies, we ourselves are discriminating: assigning different levels of importance to different peoples, races, religions and ethnicities, violating the fundamental principle that we are all born equal.

In our school years, we Americans are not taught enough to respect and admire the cultures and contributions of countries with histories far longer than our own. Or indeed to have a truly deep understanding of our own history, and the acts our country was built upon. That is one reason why, in my early twenties, I first wanted to work with UNHCR. What has become clear to me through my work is that the fight for human rights and equality is universal. It is one fight, wherever we live, and however different our circumstances might be.

[From Time Magazine]

?We are quick to criticize the human rights records of adversaries but silent when conflicts creating displacement and misery involve our allies.? This is very true, and I wish she would also say that we are quick to criticize other countries (even allies) even when our own human rights record in America is so appalling. ?When we start to pick and choose which countries or peoples we help, from our humanitarian assistance to our asylum policies, we ourselves are discriminating.? We always have, from immigration policies to which refugees we?ve helped, to which wars we fight and for what reasons we fight in those wars.
