Angelina Jolie celebrated her 20th anniversary with the United Nations High Commission on Refugees this year. It was in 2001 that she was first appointed a goodwill ambassador to the UNHCR. Eventually, her title was upgraded to special envoy to the UNHCR. She not only travels to refugee camps around the world, drawing attention to targeted situations, but she also has expanded her portfolio of activism and advocacy to gendered violence, rape and assault in warzones, the rights of children and more. As part of Angelina?s People Magazine cover story (in the current issue), she spoke more about what led her to this work, and the kindness she?s been shown from refugees:
The kindest thing to ever happen to her: In the middle of unthinkable hardship and atrocity, Angelina Jolie has witnessed incredible grace and generosity. In fact, it was while visiting the Syrian border that a young girl shared one of the few items she still had. This little girl came up to me and offered me some biscuits that she had in her pocket. Knowing what shed come from, knowing what she was heading into, knowing everything shed experienced, yet in that moment she wasnt thinking of herself or everything she had lost. She wasnt sitting with self pity. She just saw me?I must have looked tired and she just walked over and thought to just be kind. Thats what makes human beings so wonderful.
Her commitment to finding solutions for refugees: My spirit has benefited, my life has benefited, from being allowed to be in the company of people who are surviving very difficult things. Its been a gift to me. I dont like the idea that its some burden, that its so nice of somebody to go out of their way to help somebody else. Its not. I dont ever see this idea of charity.
She learned a valuable lesson from an Afghan grandmother. She was raising her grandchildren because her children had been murdered and she was in a refugee camp. I remember I started to cry and she said, I dont need you to cry, I need you to help me. That was a big lesson. The thought that sitting and feeling sorry for somebody is this luxury because you can be in your feelings and they dont have that time to feel sorry for themselves.
When she first began working with the UNHCR: I realized there are people around the world who want their lives to be dedicated to helping others, finding solutions for others, being a part of the world with each other. It changed my perspective. I just wanted to be a part of the real world. And I wanted to have a life of some meaning.
Her work in Cambodia: Her largest effort has been the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Project, run entirely by local staff serving and supported by their communities. Its a foundation set up in one of the areas of Cambodia that was most affected by the conflict and genocide (in the late 70s, by the Khmer Rouge, led by brutal dictator Pol Pot) We started out nearly 20 years ago, removing landmines from the ground so that local people could return to their homes. Today we help protect a large area of tropical forest in the Cardamom Mountains (southwest part of the country) that is threatened by illegal logging and land encroachment. And we fund two clinics and 16 healthcare staff, serving thousands of patients a year, as well as six primary schools and one secondary school. We also run a womens empowerment program.
Her work in Namibia: Recently, Jolie and her daughter Shiloh worked with a top conservation organization in Namibia, the Naankuse Foundation, to create Shilohs Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is primarily a safe place for elephants and rhinos that have been injured or orphaned due to poachers. They have recently had to move different animals because of the desert expanding, the lakes drying up, she explains.
Her book, Know Your Rights: Children are on the front lines of the struggle for human rights today. We want to ensure every child knows and understands their rights, and how to claim them. Its intended to be a practical guide. It was written for young people and the stories of youth rights activists we consulted are the bedrock of the book. We wanted the book to be open and honest and not to pull punches. Thats why I wrote at the start some adults wont want young people to read it. I hope that this is a book that might inspire a conversation between parents and children. And that it might remind governments that child rights are as real as those of adults.
Why she went to DC to speak about the reauthorization of VAWA: I am asking for protections for children in the Violence Against Women Act reauthorization, which is currently in the hands of the Senate. Theres a child health emergency in our country, caused by the hidden effects of domestic violence. Im asking for trauma care, training for judges and non-biased forensic evidence collection all to be included in the act.
On kindness: I dont think of myself as a kind person. Generosity of spirit, I think thats a better way of putting it. When you go to sleep at night and you feel like youve been of use to another human being, whether its your friend, your child or someone, thats a life worth living.

She?s so inspiring. I?m so happy that I?m an OG Jolie Stan. That?s fascinating about her book and how she?s trying to inform children how to stand up for themselves and their own rights, and how there are many adults who won?t like that. Her list of accomplishments is amazing, and the way she just listed off everything that the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation has done in Cambodia is such a badass move. She?s fundamentally changed thousands of lives for the better just in Cambodia.

Here are some photos of Angelina Jolie today in Rome. She and the cast members basically did a second ?photocall? event following The Eternals premiere last night. This photocall is pretty standard for film promotional tours in Rome they?re on a roof somewhere, and the background is the entire city of Rome. It?s lovely.
Angelina wore a clingy Dolce & Gabbana dress for today?s photocall. She looks beautiful, but I hate this dress! It?s TOO clingy and I feel like we?re seeing too much of her body. I mean, I love that she?s back to dressing in sexier clothing, honestly. The Sack Dress Era was a real thing and it was rough! But I wish she had chosen a different dress. And not D&G.
Meanwhile, I?m pretty interested in seeing how the promotion for The Eternals plays out in the next few weeks. I think it?s interesting that Salma Hayek didn?t make the trip to Rome, and I wonder if certain cities will see different Eternals, etc. One thing I do enjoy is how much Salma and Angelina like each other. Their friendship is pretty cute, and Salma just RAVES about her. I?ve never seen Angelina be so giggly and girly.

Angelina Jolie spent the weekend in Rome, as one does. She actually brought her kids or at least five of her kids to Roma, and when she wasn?t working, they all went sight-seeing. I?m including some photos of their visit to the Spanish Steps! On Sunday, Angelina did the photocall and premiere for The Eternals. She was having a great time at both. It looks like Richard Madden was making her laugh during the photocall, and she was able to bring Shiloh and Zahara with her as her dates to the premiere.
First, the premiere fashion: Angelina and Shiloh both wore Versace. I don?t have an ID on Zahara?s dress, but it was cute. The whole thing was adorable! Shiloh is getting so tall, and she actually wore some makeup for the premiere! But she remains a true skater girl and wore comfortable sneakers with her Versace dress. As for Jolie?s Versace gown? fabulous, iconic, beautiful. I love when she goes full bombshell.
At the photocall, Angelina wore a caped Ralph Lauren in black. She looked lovely.
For the sight-seeing photos, Angie is apparently wearing ?head to toe? Dolce & Gabbana. I wonder if the other kids just stayed at the hotel while Shiloh and Zahara went to the premiere? Maybe all of the kids went, but Shi and Z were the only ones to walk the carpet with mom.

Angelina Jolie and the rest of The Eternals ladies were due to appear at the Elle Women in Hollywood event last night, but it looks like they were exposed to someone with Covid at Monday night?s LA premiere of their film. Hm
?Eternals? stars Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan and Lauren Ridloff and director Chlo Zhao did not attend Elle?s Women in Hollywood event on Tuesday night due to possible exposure to COVID-19.
?Earlier today we were made aware of a possible exposure to COVID-19, and while all of our talent have tested negative, out of an abundance of caution, we are pivoting to virtual appearances rather than in-person events,? a Disney spokesperson told Variety.
Elle editor-in-chief Nina Garcia made the announcement during the event, saying that they ?were just exposed, so to keep everyone safe those superheroes are now in super isolation.?
It is unclear how the cast members and director may have been exposed to COVID-19, but they were all in attendance at the Los Angeles premiere of ?Eternals? on Monday night.

I mean? IS it unclear? No. Those women attended the premiere on Monday night and then they couldn?t go to an event the next night because they were all mysteriously exposed to Covid at the same time. Someone at the premiere was unvaxxed and unmasked, that?s my guess. And Angelina had five kids with her! I?m assuming most of her kids (if not all) have been vaccinated, but I bet they?re in isolation too.
Meanwhile, I thought that only Zahara wore one of Angelina?s old gowns to the Eternals premiere, but it looks like all of the Jolie-Pitt kids made the effort to either wear vintage or upcycle a look from Angelina?s closet. Jolie said as much on the carpet: My kids are all mixed with vintage, and in my old Oscars dress. We did all vintage and upcycled my old stuff.? She also told Entertainment Tonight that her kids didn?t like her spandex superhero costume in the movie: Would you wanna see your mother wearing that? I dont know, they havent seen the movie, but your mom walks in with a gold spandex outfit and gold hair, theyre like, What do you do for a living? What are you? Get back in your robe. Why is this cracking me up so much? The Jolie-Pitt kids love their mom but they also find her mega-embarrassing.
A cute red carpet interview with Angelina and Kumail!! I wonder if the exposure happened during the interviews.

The Eternals had its big world premiere in LA last night, and Angelina Jolie stole the show, rolling up to the carpet with five of her six children. Pax is the only missing Jolie-Pitt kid, and my guess is that he just opted out because he doesn?t really like to be photographed. Or maybe he had school? So we got to see Knox and Vivienne (who are 13), Zahara (16), Shiloh (15) and Maddox (20). Can?t believe she has all those teenagers and she?s still standing!
Angelina wore this Balmain look in a sludge/mud brown. I wish it had been brighter, but I appreciate that Angelina and the kids sort of coordinated their looks. People are calling this Balmain a ?dress? but I think it?s actually pants. Big, flowy pants. There?s some structure to the top part, and I think it?s basically a built-in bustier, and then there?s some half-sack fabric to make Angelina happy. Her jewelry is vintage Tiffany & Co. and Beladora. The Beladora piece is likely the chin-cuff. How does the chin-cuff make you feel?
As for the kids? I don?t know what designers they?re wearing except for Zahara. Zahara is wearing her mom?s old Elie Saab gown!! Angelina wore that Saab gown to the 2014 Oscars. It looks like Zahara and Angelina took it to a tailor and then made a few edits, but it looks lovely on Z. It feels like this is basically a confirmation that Zahara is the one pulling stuff out of her mom?s closet. I don?t think Shiloh and Vivienne can be bothered, they know their mom is pretty unstylish. Also: Shiloh in a dress! She?s such a tomboy, this is one of the few times we?ve seen her in a dress.

Angelina Jolie is now on Instagram!!! For celebrities of Jolie?s popularity and stature, it?s somewhat surprising that she?s never tried out Instagram before now. She started her account on Friday and posted one IG and one Instagram Story and that was all for 24 hours, then she posted a second IG. She is right now solely focused on using the platform to talk about her work as special envoy for the United Nations High Commission on Refugees. It?s a wonder she hasn?t realized that she could easily harness social media in an authentic way before now, to highlight the work with refugees and to promote the many causes near and dear to her heart. I would imagine that studios have asked her to join IG before too and she was probably like ?I don?t understand any of it, so no.? Or maybe she had a finsta, you never know. In any case, as soon as Angelina dropped her first IG post, she broke all of the previously-held Guinness World Records for followers. She actually broke Jennifer Aniston?s record (hahahahaha).
Angelina Jolie has joined Instagram, and broke a long-standing record in the process. The actress and philanthropist can now be found @angelinajolie, and being one of the most famous women on the planet reaps its benefits too; the account became the quickest to reach the threshold of 1 million followers in the platform.
It took Angelina just three hours to gain 2.1 million followers, which bests the previous record set by Jennifer Aniston, who quite literally broke Instagram when she accumulated 1 million followers in 5 hours in 2019.

I remember when Aniston?s IG was breaking all kinds of records, and now Angelina is breaking all of Aniston?s records. That feels like? the universe is in balance. Jolie actually got more than five million followers just in the first 24 hours!!
I?m including Angelina?s Instagram posts below, they are heartbreaking and she has spent more than 20 years traveling with the UNHCR and hearing refugees? stories and working to make the world a better place for displaced people. While I?m not expecting Angelina to, like, start spon-conning waist trainers and tummy teas, I do think she?ll probably use her IG to support her films, like The Eternals. I also want to know who is helping her and whether it?s one of her kids!! Y?all know that Angie didn?t figure out how to post Stories all on her own.

Angelina Jolie was in Paris last week with her kids, but we didn?t have access to any of those photos. It just looked like some kind of holiday, and my guess is that the kids are out of school for the summer and Jolie decided to ?treat? the younger ones to a little European vacay. After Paris, they apparently went to Venice. This weekend, Angelina got pap?d walking around Venice in a glorious sack dress, brown slides and a trench coat. That?s Vivienne in some of these photos, but I think Zahara, Knox and Shiloh are on this trip too. Maybe Pax as well. Vivienne has gotten so much taller in the past year! She?s as tall as her mom now. Angelina was also seen out with people I assume are her friends. I wondered if that one masked guy might be her brother James Haven but I don?t think it is, actually. (Update: people think this is Shiloh? It might be, Shiloh and Vivi look alike, especially wearing masks.)
As for the sack dress? like, Angelina loves sack dressing. Her fundamental style is shapeless, baggy caftans and muumuus. But this is next-level sack-dressing. I also kind of wonder if she?s wearing a wig in some of these photos, or perhaps she very recently dyed her hair darker. Her hairline kind of looks unnatural to me.
This vacation could also be something of a victory lap for Angelina. Two Fridays ago, we learned that Angelina finally got the unethical private judge thrown off her divorce case. The California Court of Appeal ruled in her favor, disqualified and removed Judge Ouderkirk from the case and vacated his decision on temporary child custody. Ouderkirk was disqualified because of his own unethical actions in failing to fully disclose his ongoing business with Brad Pitt?s lawyers. Us Weekly recently spoke to Mark Vincent Kaplan, who is not affiliated with Jolie or Pitt, and Kaplan was basically like ?this divorce is going to cost them both millions in legal fees.? Yes, I agree. And?

Let?s not go into the lengthy backstory for this, because it?s a lot. So, long story short: last year, Angelina Jolie tried unsuccessfully to have the private judge, John Ouderkirk, on her divorce case thrown off because he lied and failed to disclose that he was doing business with Brad Pitt?s lawyers. Ouderkirk refused to recuse himself from the case, and Ouderkirk went on to deny Angelina?s legal team from calling the kids to testify in their own custody case. Ouderkirk ended up giving Pitt more custody of the kids temporarily. Angelina was pissed off at the system, at Ouderkirk and at Brad. She appealed the case and? she won. The California appeals court sounds appalled at Ouderkirk?s behavior and the ruling about custody has been voided.
Angelina Jolie scored a major victory Friday in her divorce with Brad Pitt when a California appeals court agreed with her that the private judge deciding who gets custody of their children should be disqualified. The 2nd District Court of Appeal agreed with Jolie that Judge John W. Ouderkirk didn?t sufficiently disclose business relationships with Pitt?s attorneys.
?Judge Ouderkirk?s ethical breach, considered together with the information disclosed concerning his recent professional relationships with Pitt?s counsel, might cause an objective person, aware of all the facts, reasonably to entertain a doubt as to the judge?s ability to be impartial. Disqualification is required,? the court ruled. The decision means that the custody fight over the couple?s five minor children, which was nearing an end, could just be getting started. The judge already ruled the pair divorced, but separated the child custody issues.
Like many celebrity couples, Pitt and Jolie opted to hire their own judge to increase their privacy in the divorce proceedings. ?The appeals court ruling was based on a technical procedural issue. The facts haven?t changed. There is an extraordinary amount of factual evidence which led the judge ? and the many experts who testified ? to reach their clear conclusion about what is in the children?s best interests,? a statement by Pitt?s representative said. ?We will continue to do what?s necessary legally based on the detailed findings of what?s best for the children.?
Ouderkirk declined to disqualify himself when Jolie asked him to in a filing in August. A lower court judge ruled that Jolie?s request for disqualification came too late. Jolie?s attorneys then appealed. The July 9 oral arguments in front of the appeals court focused on exactly which ethical rules should apply to private judges, who, like Ouderkirk, are usually retired superior court judges. ?If you?re going to play the role of a paid private judge you have to play by the rules and the rules are very clear, they require full transparency,? Jolie?s attorney Robert Olson said. ?Matters that should have been disclosed were not disclosed.?
Pitt attorney Theodore Boutrous said the attempt at disqualification was a stalling tactic by Jolie to keep Ouderkirk?s recent tentative custody decision, which is favorable to Pitt, from going into effect.

Pitt?s lawyers arguing that ?it?s a stalling tactic? makes no sense when the judge is actively dissembling and concealing his unethical behavior favoring Pitt. Brad?s people were running around to smear Angelina once again, and a source told People: ?Brad believes there is overwhelming evidence that the current situation isnt good for the kids. This just sets things back for everyone. The ?current situation? had three of his children willing to testify against him in their custody case, but go off. Pitt?s lawyers have also told everyone that they plan to appeal the appeal. Brad is really arguing that it?s totally fine that his lawyers were in cahoots with the judge and that it?s not weird at all that the judge refused to examine Jolie?s witness testimony or allow the kids to testify.
So, basically, Ouderkirk?s ruling on temporary custody back in May has been nullified and now Jolie and Pitt are back to their old custody agreement, which was that Angelina had primary custody and Brad has more limited visitation. I?m so glad Angelina won this appeal!

Earlier this month, Angelina Jolie and The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) stepped out for a dinner date in LA. No one knew what was going on. Was it a work thing? Abel had just gotten a deal greenlighted at HBO. Was it a charity thing? Angelina and Abel both have connections to Ethiopia. Or was it a romance thing? Abel included a line about Angelina?s lips in one of his songs. It seemed like a strange little gossip item and no one knew where it was going. Well? um, The Joliend is real, people. I think they?re really happening? Abel and Angelina were seen out on another date:
Angelina Jolie and The Weeknd were spotted on another secret date at a private concert in Los Angeles over the weekend amid ongoing romance rumors. Images of the stars attending Mustafas private concert appeared on the Instagram account Deuxmoi, which showed The Weeknd with a group of friends and Angelina sitting with daughters Shiloh, 15, and 16-year-old Zahara.
A Twitter fan account for the Blinding Lights singer, 31, also posted the images of Angelina, 46, with her kids and The Weeknd.

Angelina was sitting with Shiloh, not with Abel, but it was clear that The Joliend were sort of there together. According to the Sun (eh), Angelina and Abel first met up in New York last month, during her family trip there (where she was also seen at Jonny Lee Miller?s apartment). Ange has been in contact with Abel for a while, he was in New York at the same time as her and the kids. They met up for lunch in private. She took Pax along because hes a big fan and they got along really well, he was obviously thrilled. They are just friends, but who knows it could be more in the future, hes made no secret of the fact he has a huge crush on her.

I?m here for Angelina Jolie feeling herself and having something of a Hot Girl Summer, or perhaps a Hot Villainess Summer. It?s been a long time since Angelina has had *fun* drama in her personal life, and now I?m hoping that Jonny Lee Miller and assorted young lovers are all vying for her attention. Young lovers like The Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfaye. Abel and Angelina (portmanteau: Abelina OR The Joliend) were seen out to dinner on Wednesday night in LA:
Angelina Jolie and The Weeknd were snapped exiting celebrity hotspot Giorgio Baldi in Los Angeles Wednesday night, setting gossip tongues to wagging as to what their night out might have entailed.
After spending hours at the high-end Italian eatery, the pair were sure to leave separately so as to not be photographed together. The 46-year-old Oscar winner wore a black silk dress and trench coat while the ?After Hours? singer, 31, kept it simple in a denim look and black boots.
While it?s possible the beauty and mother of six shared a romantic evening with the Toronto artist, the singer, n Abel Tesfaye, is also looking to further his career in Hollywood, meaning the pair could?ve met up for business reasons and nothing more.
?They?re clearly not trying to hide [the dinner date],? a source close to The Weeknd told Page Six. ?He?s definitely focused on getting to the movie business. He has the new HBO series he?s starring in.?
Tesfaye ? who played a memorable role in Adam Sandler?s ?Uncut Gems? and co-wrote an episode of ?American Dad? last year ? is set to co-write and star in the new HBO series ?The Idol,? which he co-created with Reza Fahim and ?Euphoria? creator Sam Levinson.

That new HBO series was the first thing that came to mind, because it was literally just announced too Abel is working with Sam Levinson to develop a drama series called The Idol. The one sentence pitch is: ?The series follows a female pop singer who starts a romance with an enigmatic L.A. club owner who is the leader of a secret cult.? Abel is not just co-writing it, but I guess he?ll play the enigmatic cult dude. But is there even a role for Angelina? Or was he just asking for advice? I don?t know. Maybe she just wanted to make Jonny Lee Miller jealous.
