Michelle Williams and Jason Segel are no more! Sad. They had been dating for a year ? almost exactly. Jason was/is tight with Michelle?s BFF Busy Phillips, and Busy introduced them last year during the awards season, when Michelle was up for an Oscar for My Week With Marilyn. Once they got together, they seemed incredibly tight, with Jason coming Brooklyn often to see Michelle and spend time with Matilda, and Michelle and Mattie going to LA to spend time with Jason. There were even widespread reports of an engagement, and I genuinely thought it would happen for them. Alas?
Michelle Williams and Jason Segel are back on the market. The Oz the Great and Powerful actress, 32, and the How I Met Your Mother star, 33, quietly ended their romance earlier this month, sources tell Us Weekly.
Though the two seemed happy together as recently as January, when they were photographed on vacation in Cancun with Williams’ BFF Busy Philipps, an insider tells Us that their romance couldn’t survive the long distance. (Williams lives in New York with daughter Matilda, 7, while Segel is based in Los Angeles, where his CBS sitcom is filmed.)
Us Weekly broke the news of the couple’s undercover romance in March 2012. In June, a source told Us that Williams and Segel were “totally in love. Jason is obsessed with Michelle.” He had also taken a liking to his girlfriend’s daughter (with her late ex, Heath Ledger). “He’s been doing all sorts of ‘dad stuff’ with her, like drawing and playing music,” the insider said.
The stars kept a relatively low profile throughout their relationship, rarely acknowledging the romance in public. Segel spoke vaguely about Williams last April, telling Extra, “I think we would just very much like to be happy. That’s all I’m going to say about it.”

Yeah, one of the biggest reasons why I though Michelle and Jason would last the test of time is because she seemed okay with Jason spending a lot of time with Matilda, and he seemed to enjoy the idea of being Matilda?s step-dad. I would love to know what really happened, because I?m not sure if I?m buying the whole ?different cities? excuse.

Here are some photos of Michelle Williams going into the Ed Sullivan Theater last night, about to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman to promote Oz the Great and Powerful. Michelle?s suit/dress thing is Dior ? it?s cute and conservative, but I think it?s got built-in hip enhancers or something so that size-zero ladies look like they have Kardashian hips. Weird. Anyway, the real story is that Michelle seems to be growing out her beloved pixie cut and that her hair is currently in sort of an awkward stage (IMO).
Unlike Miley Cyrus, Michelle Williams is destined to go long again. After rocking a famously admired blonde pixie for years, the Oscar-nominated actress, 32, is growing out the locks, she told E! News.
“I think I’m ready,” the Oz the Great and Powerful star, whose locks do indeed appear longer, said. “It’s on its way, slowly but surely.” Williams added that the short-to-long process has daunted her for years.
“That’s why I’ve stayed with short hair for so long,” Jason Segel’s love said. “The mid-stage is insufferable. It’s really hard on your self-esteem.”
One person who may cheer William’s longer tresses? Daughter Matilda, 8.
“What Matilda would love is for her mom to grow out the cropped hair, though that’s unlikely to happen any time soon,” Williams told ELLE back in November 2011. Indeed, it seemed that Williams’ Twiggy-like look was a tribute to Matilda’s late father, Heath Ledger.
“Straight men across the board are not into this hair!” Williams told ELLE. “I cut it for the one straight man who has ever liked short hair and I wear it in memorial of somebody who really loved it.” Ledger died of a drug overdose in January 2008 at age 28.

Over the summer, it felt like we were inundated with photos of Michelle Williams, Jason Segel and Matilda Ledger. They were in New York and LA, back and forth, back and forth, and suddenly they seemed like an incredibly tight little family unit. There were even widespread reports that Jason had actually proposed to Michelle, although we still haven?t seen anything about confirmed by anyone reputable. Now The Mail claims that Michelle and Jason are definitely taking the next step? they?re buying property together! That does come before engagement these days, doesn?t it?
She had kept the memory of Heath Ledger alive by staying in the house they shared with their beloved daughter. But Michelle Williams is finally moving on from her lost love after leaving the Brooklyn brownstone she bought with the tragic star – and has set up home with her boyfriend, actor Jason Segel.
The Oscar-nominated actress, 32, and Jason, also 32, have moved into a sprawling loft overlooking the Manhattan skyline, MailOnline can reveal. The Brooklyn property, which is situated in a stunning converted warehouse behind gates, marks a fresh start for Michelle, who still owns the house she first bought with Heath in 2005, when their daughter Matilda was a baby. Jason has already been spotted outside their new home with Matilda.
A source said: ‘Michelle, Jason and Matilda seem very happy here, the building is beautiful. They’ve been here a few months now and they look right at home.’
Michelle and Heath bought their brownstone for $3.6 million, but it now believed to be worth up to $4.2 million. The petite blonde was left devastated following Heath’s death in January 2008 from a drugs overdose – five months after they had separated. She has since concentrated on raising Matilda, who will celebrate her seventh birthday on Sunday.
Despite a few short-lived romances, Michelle – who won an Oscar nomination this year for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn – has remained largely single since splitting with Heath. However, she started dating Jason, best known for starring in TV comedy How I Met Your Mother and big screen hits including Knocked Up and The Muppets, earlier this year. The couple are believed to have met through Michelle’s best friend – and Jason’s former Freaks and Geeks costar ? actress Busy Philipps.
Friends of Michelle said they had never seen her happier – while Jason told Parade magazine in March: ‘I don’t want to have a girlfriend for the sake of having a girlfriend. I have no desire to pick a random girl.
‘I want the right girl. There are plenty of opportunities, but I would rather have the right one.’

I approve. Not that they?re asking for my approval or anything, but I do think this is a step in the right direction, a healthier direction for Michelle. During her Oscar campaign last year and into this year, I kept getting the feeling that Michelle still feels like she?s very much living with Heath Ledger?s ghost. I don?t mean that in the supernatural way, I mean that in the ?she idealized him in death to make him some perfect, untouchable man which no living, breathing man could ever hope to compete with? way. Plus, there was the whole Revirginization of Michelle, which went over like a lead balloon (at least with me). So, it?s nice to see her with a steady boyfriend, moving on physically and emotionally.

Taking in a matinee, Michelle Williams took her daughter Matilda to see "Snow White" at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood on Saturday (August 25).
The "My Week with Marilyn" star wore a black sleeveless top, striped white pants, and black sandals as her daughter clung to her in a colorful striped sun dress. Boyfriend Jason Segel was also on hand to join in the family fun, wearing a plaid button-down shirt and blue jeans.
Recently, the "Muppets" star reportedly reached out to Heath Ledger's family to tell them that he is there for the late actor's daughter, Matilda, and her mother. An insider to the Ledger family told Radar, "Jason got on the phone and introduced himself to Kim (Heath's father), and then invited the Ledgers to use his home whenever they wanted to fly in from Australia to visit Michelle and Maddie."
The source added, "Now Kim's given his blessing for Jason to marry Michelle and be a stepdad to Matilda."

They love to spend active quality time together, and yesterday (August 23) Michelle Williams and her daughter Matilda took to the streets of Los Angeles for a sunny stroll.
The ?My Week with Marilyn? starlet and her adorable little girl held hands and walked back to Michelle?s car after a fun day at summer camp.
On Wednesday (August 22) Michelle and Matilda spent the day at Griffith Park with some friends while shutterbugs looked on from afar.
And it sounds like Michelle and her boyfriend Jason Segel are getting serious- the ?Forgetting Sarah Marshall? stud recently called the late Heath Ledger?s dad/Matilda?s grandfather Kim Ledger to introduce himself.
An insider told press, "Jason got on the phone and introduced himself to Kim, and then invited the Ledgers to use his home whenever they wanted to fly in from Australia to visit Michelle and Maddie."

Kicking off their week more in love than ever, Michelle Williams and Jason Segel were seen out in Los Feliz, CA on Monday (August 20).
The Hollywood duo walked arm-in-arm to their vehicle after dropping the blonde beauty's daughter Matilda at Griffith Park.
As previously reported by GossipCenter, the "How I Met Your Mother" actor recently reached out to Kim Ledger, the father of the late actor Heath Ledger, to express his care for their six year-old granddaughter.
A source told website RadarOnline: "Jason got on the phone and introduced himself to Kim, and then invited the Ledgers to use his home whenever they wanted to fly in from Australia to visit Michelle and Maddie.
"Kim was blown away by Jason's generosity and the two hit it off right away. Now Kim's given his blessing for Jason to marry Michelle and be a stepdad to Matilda."

Making the most of the beautiful weather, Michelle Williams and her daughter Matilda strolled around West Hollywood, California yesterday afternoon (August 16).
Doing their best to avoid attracting attention, the ?Dawson?s Creek? star shielded her six-year-old from the shutterbugs as they headed into an optical shop to look for new glasses.
And of course both ladies were well-dressed, with Michelle sporting a black and white dress with black strappy sandals and black sunglasses, while Matilda opted for a colorful striped summer dress.
Coming up next spring (March 8th), Michelle will be starring on ?Oz: The Great and Powerful,? along with James Franco and Mila Kunis.

Stepping out for some fresh air and sunshine, Michelle Williams and Jason Segel were spotted taking a walk in New York City on Saturday (June 23).
The ?My Week with Marilyn? babe and her ?Forgetting Sarah Marshall? stud enjoyed each other?s company and looked cute and casual.
And though they?ve only been together since March, Michelle and Jason are said to be head over heels in love with each other.
An insider told press, ?They are totally in love. [Jason is] obsessed with Michelle and loves Matilda. He?s been doing all sorts of ?dad stuff? with her, like drawing and playing music.?
Another source added that, "Jason is totally smitten. It's like the first girl he's ever been this way with. And Michelle hasn?t been this happy in forever.?

I have to admit something that?s going to make me sound like a loser (big surprise, I know): at one of our photo agencies, WENN, they supply us with promotional stills for some films, and they have a really graphic one for Michelle Williams? new film, Take This Waltz. I have no idea what this film is about. But I do know that at various points in the film, Michelle gets completely naked, and at one point she?s getting boned properly, and the promotional images are incredibly sexy. So, my admission: while I sometimes find Michelle annoying and ?affected?, I have to give her props for some really ballsy performances, and not being afraid of graphic sexual content.
Anyway, these are some new photos of Michelle outside of a ?special screening? for Take This Waltz in NYC. Michelle?s dress is Altuzarra – eh. It?s a boring and cheap-looking LBD, in my opinion. And I think the weird bust tassels are kind of wrong. She?s not Gypsy Rose Lee – her boobs don?t need tassels. Also: I think the white Givenchy shoes are a mistake with the LBD.

After Us Weekly broke the news of their romance in March, the unlikely pair kept a low-profile while Segel promoted The Five-Year Engagement in Europe and Williams prepped for her Take This Waltz press tour. But on June 19, witnesses saw the couple looking “very lovey-dovey” at Broadway’s One Man, Two Guvnors, The New York Post’s Page Six reports. Williams, 31, looked “so pretty” in white, while Segel, 32, wore “a suit.”
The couple stepped out to support James Corden, 33, Segel’s costar in 2010?s Gulliver’s Travels. “Jason loved the play,” a Segel source tells Us. “It was definitely his sense of humor.”
According to the source, Williams and Segel “are totally in love. Jason is obsessed with Michelle.” What’s more, he’s become somewhat of a father figure to Williams’ daughter Matilda, 6 (with her late ex, Heath Ledger). “He’s been doing all sorts of ‘dad stuff’ with her, like drawing and playing music.”
Friends for years via mutual pal Busy Philipps, 32, Segel has only spoken publicly about Williams once, during an April interview with Extra. “I think we would just very much like to be happy,” he said. “That’s all I’m going to say about it.”

Hm? well, I do like it that Jason and Michelle seem to have taken it down a notch – we?re no longer getting breathless daily reports about how Michelle and Jason totally know that they?re going to be together 4 EVA after one month of dating. This caught my eye – ?Jason is obsessed with Michelle?.? Hm. Interesting word choice. I believe that they?re in love and all, I hope it?s going well. But I do wonder.

Capping off a full day in the spotlight, Michelle Williams was the center of attention as she arrived for a special screening of "Take This Waltz" in New York City on Thursday night (June 21).
Clad in a black Altuzarra frock with Givenchy kicks, the 31-year-old actress prettied up the Sunshine Landmark venue while joining alongside co-star Luke Kirby to promote their Sarah Polley directed dramedy - which is set for a limited U.S. release on June 29th.
The screening comes after Miss Williams dropped by ?CBS This Morning? earlier in the day to chat about her new film, saying, ?I always thought about it as a sort of coming of age story, a different kind of coming of age, a kind of unsung period of your life, when you?re making the transition from being a girl into being a woman, and this sort of on-the-cusp kind of thing when you?re trying to leave behind childish things and it?s really a last step into an adult life.?
As for her character?s conundrum, Michelle dished, ?I thought of it as a kind of, as a struggle between her selfish side, her pleasurable side, and her moral side.?
Also starring Seth Rogen and Sarah Silverman, ?Take This Waltz? is about ?a happily married woman who falls for the artist across the street.?
