Here are some photos from the Santa Barbara Film Festival over the weekend. Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams were honored with the Cinema Vanguard Awards for their work in Manchester by the Sea. I always forget about Santa Barbara, but it actually has become an increasingly important stop for Oscar hopefuls. They schedule the film festival so it always falls in the heat of the Oscar race, and the film festival hands out awards to everybody who agrees to show up. Actors, directors and writers get to meet with Oscar voters at their second homes, plus they do a lot of extra press and usually there are panel discussions or ?conversations.?
For this event, Michelle stuck with her Louis Vuitton contract and chose this buttery LV dress with cutouts. While I have loathed so much from LV in the past few years, I don?t hate this at all. The color warms up Michelle and makes her hair look less white-blonde and little-old-lady/Civil-War-ghost. The gown is incredibly flattering to Michelle?s figure too. As for Casey? I don?t think he has that hobo beard for a film, so maybe he should consider trimming it or just shaving it completely??
Meanwhile, what would have been a pleasant stop at a ritzy-but-low-key film festival now has a sudden urgency, doesn?t it? Ever since the SAG Awards two Sundays ago, every professional Oscar predictor/watcher has severely downgraded Casey?s chance at taking home the Best Actor Oscar. Pre-SAGs, Casey had been a sure thing, despite a quiet but concerted effort to talk more about how he allegedly sexually harassed two women. Everyone thought Casey was a lock. But then Denzel Washington won the SAG for Fences and now everyone is like ?it?s anyone?s game!? Will Denzel take home another Oscar? Will people feel like it?s not Casey?s ?time? right now? Will Ryan Gosling suddenly start campaigning?? Basically, Casey is being told to get out there more, to be seen, to campaign. Which is why he seemed to be making an effort in Santa Barbara.

When Michelle Williams arrived on the SAG red carpet in this Louis Vuitton, people were immediately like, ?Oh, honey, noooo.? Not even Giuliana Rancic could muster up something nice to say. To be fair to Michelle, at least she didn?t do her patented Civil War Ghost cosplay, like she did at the Globes. And to be fair to Michelle, she does have that Louis Vuitton contract and LV?s current line is basically the worst. She didn?t have that many choices, I think. But still? this is a disaster. Something nice: I don?t hate her hair here. It doesn?t look white-blonde and she didn?t slick it down to the sides of her head. Yay?
Sophie Turner also got a Louis Vuitton gown and hers isn?t much better? Like, I don?t mind that she?s attempting an old-Hollywood glam look. I don?t mind the red, I don?t mind the hair or makeup. She looks great for the most part. But the dress? eh. The bust is throwing everything off.
Claire Foy – star of The Crown and winner of a SAG – wore this Valentino gown. I haven?t watched The Crown (don?t hate me!) so I don?t really have an opinion of Foy in general. But judging from her red carpet interviews, she seems like a cool young woman and she?s very pretty. I like the fact that she?s taking some fashion risks, but I would love it if she was one of those British actresses who consistently wore British designers to awards shows. This Valentino is anticlimactic. It?s also kind of ugly? That collar, you guys.
Meryl Streep?s Valentino was pretty simple – just a light, pretty gown with little birds on the fabric. Like, is it the best thing she?s ever worn? No. But she looked good. She looked like she knew she wasn?t going to win anything and she was just there to have a good time, I guess.

Celebrity relationships are kind of a dime a dozen, aren’t they? Once you get used to these celebrity couples, they break up. Solid celebrity friendships, however, seemingly last a lifetime, as evidenced by Michelle Williams and her BFF, Busy Philipps. The two have been each others’ dates for loads of red carpet events, most recently at the screening of Michelle’s critically-acclaimed movie, Manchester by the Sea. Michelle told reporters at the Sunday screening at New York’s Crosby Street Hotel that. ?I?m here with my best friend. I?m so in love with her. She?s proof that the love of your life does not have to be a man! That?s the love of my life right there.?
Michelle, 36, and Busy, 37, have been friends since their days working together on Dawson’s Creek. As a testament of their long-standing friendship, Busy posted a side-by-side picture of the two of them from 2001 and today. She notes in the caption for the photo, “I love that we almost always stand on the same side of each other.” Helping you show off your best side is what friends are really for. Side note: they look amazing, but Busy’s throwback pic makes me miss Freaks and Geeks. Kim Kelly, 4-eva.
2001/2016 I love that we almost always stand on the same side of each other. Also, can I just say-we aren't at a costume party in 2001. That's legit how we were dressed for a regular night out. I guess I really was my character from Cougartown? And thank God my eyebrows grew back.

Since it?s looking more and more like The Birth of a Nation isn?t going to have much of an Oscar campaign, it?s worth taking stock of what films are going to be discussed in the coming months for the awards season. One of the films on top of that list is Manchester by the Sea, Kenneth Lonergan?s much-anticipated movie starring Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams. These are photos from the BFI London Film Festival premiere of the film.
For the premiere, Michelle wore Louis Vuitton. She wears a ton of LV whenever she?s on the red carpet these days, mostly because she?s an LV model and brand ambassador. As I said last week, I don?t think Michelle?s association with LV does much for either of them, and this dress is a perfect example of why that is. This dress is so? nothingburger. Maybe I would like it more on someone else, but I don?t even think that?s it. It?s just a nothing dress ? I don?t find the touch of acid-green offensive or beautiful. The cut is adequate and yet not really flattering. It hangs well but it?s so boring. It doesn?t help that Michelle barely styled this look ? she?s wearing zero jewelry, and that clutch isn?t even power-clashing.
I also have something controversial to say about Michelle?s hair: I?m so f?king over this look on her. The white-blonde is TERRIBLE on her. She doesn?t look cool or trendy, which is what I think we?re supposed to think. I?m also pretty much over the short hair on her, although if she had a darker blonde, you would be able to see that the style isn?t too bad.
As for the film? as I said, it?s still on a lot of critics? lists for one of the best films of the year. It will be interesting to see if Casey Affleck takes any PR-heat for those 2010 accusations of sexual harassment and worse. It will be interesting to see if he gets asked about it all, especially in the wake of Nate Parker?s implosion.

Since Heath Ledger passed away, Michelle Williams has actually had a number of serious boyfriends. This wouldn?t bother me whatsoever, except that the press around Michelle usually makes it seem like she?s lived in a nunnery for six years. Post-Heath, Michelle seriously dated Spike Jonze, Cary Fukunaga, Jason Segel and Dustin Yellin. The thing with Dustin Yellin only ended about three or four months ago and according to Us Weekly, Michelle has a new boyfriend? a boyfriend who split up with his wife last year. Hm.
Turning a new page! Sources reveal in the new issue of Us Weekly that Michelle Williams and author Jonathan Safran Foer are dating.
?They knew each other through mutual friends,? one insider says of the Brooklyn-based pair. ?I?m not surprised that Michelle is attracted to him. She loves books. She reads almost every day!?
Indeed, the My Week With Marilyn star, 34, once told Nylon that her love of books was ?consuming, or isolating, I guess.? She even admitted she had ?walls in my apartment made of books.” Adds the insider: ?They?re two people in the same mind-set.”
Safran Foer, 38, who wrote Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, was previously married to fellow author Nicole Krauss, with whom he split in 2014. The former couple share two children. And Williams famously dated Jason Segel, Spike Jonze, and the late Heath Ledger.
The Brokeback Mountain costars welcomed daughter Matilda in 2005. Now 9, the youngster is Williams’ main priority. In March, the actress told Elle UK that she?s ?so good at raising a kid? when she?s not working. ?I don?t forget anything. I?ve got everything covered.?
According to a second source, everything for Williams is coming full circle. ?With Jonathan, Michelle looks finally at peace and genuinely happy.?

I had to look it up ? in June 2014, Foer and Krauss announced their split and said that they had actually been separated for a year. So? there?s nothing shady going on there, at least on Michelle?s end. She met a recently divorced dude (is he divorced though?) and they?re dating. It?s interesting, I guess, to note that Michelle?s taste in men is pretty hipster-y. She likes Cool Guys Who Live In Brooklyn, she likes Artists Who Understand Light, she enjoys A Man With An Ironic Beard. Most of all, she loves Men Who Write Words.

For the fourth year in a row, Michelle Williams stars in Louis Vuitton?s spring 2015 handbag campaign and this time she brought a little edge.
In the advert, shot by famed photog Peter Lindbergh, the ?My Week with Marilyn? star models the ?Capucines? handbag in two new shades: Strawberry and Fuchsia.
To give the sleek accessories some contrast, Michelle channels a moodier persona with a bed-head hairstyle and deconstructed black garments.

I?ve got some good news and some bad news. Good news: Michelle Williams has finally grown out her pixie after many, many months of awkwardness. That?s the thing about pixie cuts: they are a bitch to grow out. Bad news: Michelle really seems to want to make the white-blonde color happen. And I?m not in love with it. Overall though, I?d say that she looks really good in this Elle UK editorial for the April cover. But I would like to see her soften her blonde. Or even go brunette (she looked nice as a brunette). Michelle is wearing Louis Vuitton in every shot of this editorial too ? she?s the current face of LV, so there you go. Anyway, here are some excerpts from Michelle?s interview:
Her work-life-mom balance: ?You truly never know what?s going to happen. And to have things go wrong, or to make mistakes in real time and then be able to assimilate whatever is different is a tremendous feeling. To find in those moments that one doesn?t stop, or perish, or run away, but that you can rely on yourself to process things and keep going.?
She?s exhausted: ?I feel like I?m so good at raising a kid when I?m not working. I don?t forget anything. I?ve got everything covered. It?s a real luxury to have a moment when I?m not scrambling. I feel like most of my life, I?m trying to do two things at once, both to the best of my abilities. So that leaves me feeling pretty exhausted. I?m the person who falls asleep all the time. You invite me over for dinner or to a party, and there?s a whole scrapbook of pictures of me napping. I?ve even been given a nickname because of my snoring.?
She doesn?t do Twitter, but she reads poetry: ‘I love poetry because it?s like a shot, like an attack, like a dose. And for a person who doesn?t have very much free time, it does its work very quickly. So I read poems on my phone when I wake up in the morning. It opens you up for the rest of the day, and suddenly your life becomes a little more observed. And when it becomes more observed, it can?t help but start to become more beautiful.?

I could not read poetry as soon as I woke up. But then again, I read Page Six as soon as I wake up (gossip blogging is totes glamorous). But I feel her when she says ?it?s like a shot, like an attack, like a dose?? I?m reading and writing all day for work. When I?m reading for fun, most days I need something simple, which is why I go with magazines or essay collections or short stories. I’m done with something in 20 minutes, which is perfect for me.
As for the rest of it? I feel like we?ve been hearing a lot less about Michelle?s personal life in the past two years or so. There was a marked decrease as soon as she was done with Jason Segel. She dated an artist named Dustin Yellin for a year, but they broke up last May and from what I can see, she?s been pretty much single since. I?d like her to find someone, but I always get the feeling (from her interviews) that she lives with the ghost, you know?

While she hasn?t exactly been cranking out movies as of late, it turns out Michelle Williams has stayed busy modeling for Louis Vuitton.
The ?Dawson?s Creek? actress makes her third appearance for the famed French fashion house?s Capucines and Lockit handbags, and everything is simple, understated and elegant.
Williams worked on the vintage-inspired spread with photographer Peter Lindbergh for the campaign under the creative direction of Nicolas Ghesquiere.
And according to LV press materials, ?The resulting series of portraits hints at the woman behind the actress, revealing the intriguing balance of force and fragility that made Michelle Williams such a compelling choice as the face of Louis Vuitton.?

Did you know that Michelle Williams is playing Sally Bowles in the latest Broadway revival of Cabaret? She?s joined by Alan Cumming, who already played the Emcee back in the 1990s (he won a Tony for it too). These are photos from the opening party at Studio 54. Michelle wore Louis Vuitton to the party ? she?s the current face of LV, so that makes sense. Thoughts on the ensemble? I?m okay with it, but I?m not crazy jazzed about it. This is from Nicolas Ghesquire?s first collection under the LV name. I don?t see much Balenciaga here.
I?m also including photos of Alan Cumming, who wore a bold tartan shorts-suit to the opening party. I?ve read some reviews of this revival, and Cumming is still delivering, apparently. Critics are mixed about Michelle?s performance though.
Guess who else came out to Studio 54? Oh, just Scarfy Depp and his young lover Amber Heard. These two just look so? bored. I kind of feel for Amber a little bit. She thought Johnny was going to make her into the next Angelina Jolie. But Scarfy just wants a pretty young thing on his arm and in his bed. I kind of hope Amber is knocked up ? it would be a smarter career move for her than trying to get parts through Johnny. Also: check out Scarfy?s Saturday Night Fever suit!

Ditching the wintry weather of New York City, Michelle Williams enjoyed a much warmer climate while out and about in Miami, Florida yesterday (December 5).
The ?My Week with Marilyn? actress exited her hotel wearing a Burberry trench coat and Celine leopard loafers as she made her way to Art Basel.
Ms. Williams has been a busy lady as of late, gearing up for her role in the forthcoming Broadway production of ?Cabaret.?
Michelle is slated to play Sally Bowles (previously played by Liza Minnelli), alongside Alan Cumming. Opening night is slated for April 24th, 2014.
