She was joined at the event by Lisa Kudrow, Brittany Snow, Kelly Osbourne, Kellan Lutz, Kiernan Shipka, Beth Behrs, Dan Bucatinsky, Elisabeth Rohm, Jennifer Coolidge, Pauley Perrette, and Katherine?s hubby Josh Kelley.
Heigl recently revealed that she got Kelley to seriously commit only after threatening to leave him for another singer – John Mayer.

These are photos from the Trevor Live event in LA last night, with proceeds to benefit The Trevor Project, “the nation?s leading provider of crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth.” A lot of big names turned up to support this worthy cause, notably Katherine Heigl in a purple velvet gown with a slit halfway up her thigh. I like that the gown is full coverage apart from the slit, and it has a nice wintery feel. It does look like Heigl is pitching her leg out far from her body in most of the red carpet photos I’ve seen. She could have just posed normally instead of emphasizing the slit, it seems like that is played out. Other than that I like her look. She likes to dress “older” and her style tends to be matronly, but this is a nice colder weather gown.
The Daily Mail points out that Heigl told Meredith Vieira that she was “hanging out” with John Mayer around the time she started dating her husband, Josh Kelley. Heigl claimed that they were only friends, but that she used her “friendship” with Mayer to get Kelley to commit to her. The Mail has a clip of the interview and Heigl gets flustered explaining the story. I do think she had more than a platonic friendship with John Mayer, that guy is a dog and Heigl seemed embarrassed about it.

As you know, Katherine Heigl has an arguably well deserved reputation as a royal pain in the ass. At one point she was poised to become the next romcom queen, but several statements she made to the press, along with poor career choices and a reportedly controlling mom/manager, put her career on the downswing. She is now starring in a new political thriller series, State of Affairs, which will premiere on NBC next week. Katherine Heigl was widely criticized by both the mainstream press and industry publications, which did some digging as to her on-set behavior. This wasn’t just the issue of some bloggers nitpicking her very obnoxious public statements. (That’s our job, and we do it well.) Multiple insiders spoke out against Heigl, and there were reports on her diva behavior and career in NY Mag and in The Hollywood Reporter.
In a new interview with E!, Heigl talks about the fallout from that period, and she makes it sound like it was sexism and censoring on the part of the media. She talks about empowering her daughters to speak up for themselves, which I agree with in principle, but she trashed at least two employers publicly. My mom taught me to be firm and speak up for myself, but she’s also told me that you get more flies with honey. There’s a way to state your case without complaining about the people who pay you seven figures to act. This interview with E! shows that Heigl hasn’t changed at all. E!’s Kristen Dos Santos also makes it sound like Heigl is a victim of the media blowing her comments out of proportion. Maybe that happened on some level, but Heigl made her own bed. In fact Dos Santos writes “What happened to the then 29-year-old actress after ‘Shonda-gate’ and ‘Apatow-gate’ was one of the most jarring public lynchings Hollywood has ever seen.” Oh no she did not just use the L word to describe Katherine Heigl’s career. Someone should have edited that sh*t out of there.

The first time I met you was right when you started Grey’s Anatomy, and I remember being totally floored by how real you were. You didn’t have a filter. You were funny and honest. It’s pretty rare in this town that we get to chat with people who don’t get fed every single line to say. So now, a decade later, given everything you went through, I’m wondering, how has that changed? Do you feel like you need to be a lot more careful about what you say? Can you still speak your mind?
Back when all that happened, I was a little nave. I didn’t know. At the time, social media and all of that wasn’t what it is now. I didn’t realize the impact that this comment or that comment would have or that it would catch like wildfire. But it did. It spread and it turned into something a lot uglier than I ever intended. Obviously I’m more aware of that now. If I’m going to voice my opinion and I’m going to speak my mind, I better be very clear about what my intentions are when I say it. It should never be flippant or carelessly tossed out there. I’m still going to have opinions and some of them people are going to agree with, and some they won’t. But that’s life and that’s every single person on this planet.
I spent time trying to be more of a publicity packaged thing, and I just couldn’t. I couldn’t sleep at night. It kept me up. It felt so dishonest to me and it felt like such a cop out, like me saying that I am inherently wrong about how I feel about things or I am inherently wrong if I have something to say. I don’t like that for my daughters. I don’t like that for my girlfriends. I don’t like that for any woman in this world to be made to feel like that. You voice, your opinion and you are made to feel like if someone disagrees with you, that now you’re a bad person?
Above all else, you have to be able to respect yourself.
Yes. At the end of the day, call me any name you want but I’m going to continue to stand up for myself and I’m going to continue to be heard and voice what I feel and not be bullied into being a doormat, just so you’ll call me a sweetheart. I don’t want to teach my kids that. And I know certainly some remarkable women like Alfre and my mother and the women that I work with at the network and studio who exude the most gracious confidence in a non-aggressive, non-egotistical way. That’s what I need to learn. I need to learn to be like that and not just vomit my ideas out there.
Once you learn that, I still think it’s important to be true to yourself. I don’t want my kids to feel like they don’t have a voice or that having a voice makes them a bitch. I’ve gone through that phase, too, where I just sit in the corner quietly and look pretty and smile a lot. It’s not terribly satisfying. It’s living in a weird place of fear of what others think about you. But what matters most is what I think about me. I hold myself to the standard that I think is important. Do I have integrity? Am I compassionate? Am I charitable? Am I forgiving? Am I respectful and decent? That’s far more important to me than saying what everyone wants me to say.
Do you think your comments would have been received differently if you were a man? There’s no male equivalent for the word “diva.” Do you feel that women have less freedom to stand up for themselves and what is right, without coming across as abrasive?
Why isn’t there the male equivalent for even bitch? It’s so derogatory. I can get into a whole conversation about this. My husband and I talk about this and he’s like, ?Well, let’s come up with a word!’ But look, I don’t want to be a victim, either. I don’t want to sit around and complain about the way things are, I want to power through it. My mother never subscribed to the idea that a woman had to be this or a woman was only capable of this in a professional way. Even if that stigma was placed on her in the ’50s and the ’60s and the ’70s, she just ignored it and kept moving forward and kept being who she was capable of being and doing. It’s not always possible if the people in charge say no because the people in charge do say no. But that’s my approach at this point, to not let it make me a victim of society or sexism. It’s up to me to bully my way through it.

I like what Heigl said about not painting herself as a victim because she’s not. I would have liked to hear her own her past statements though instead of acting like she was speaking her truth and got eviscerated for it. In Heigl’s mind, she’s either being true to herself by speaking out or she’s “sitting in the corner quietly [to] look pretty and smile a lot.” She did admit that she needs to learn how to be graciously confident and “not just vomit ideas out there.” I do think she’s learning, but I don’t think she’s changed. She still thinks she was right all along and that everyone else misinterpreted her.

Katherine Heigl is trying to resurrect a career that’s been reduced to tattered curtains of divadom. I used to think Katherine got a bad rap because she made the grave mistake of calling an Apatow movie “sexist. It’s never cool to watch someone talk smack about their job, but male actors get away with it all the time. Heigl didn’t fare as well because she was talking back to the dudes.
Anyway. Heigl has proven herself to be a genuine pill over many years. Stories of diva behavior continue, yet she seems genuinely surprised at her career downfall. Now the word “Heigl” is readily associated with rudeness by other actors. Heigl’s new show, State of Affairs, is a last shot at repairing her reputation.
Heigl sat down for a Q&A on Facebook, and a fan asked, “I’ve heard rumors that your [sic] very rude. What’s your thoughts?” That question probably felt like a slap in the face, but Heigl answered:
“Yeah I’ve heard those too…honestly I don’t think I am…nothing makes me more uncomfortable than confrontation or hurting someones feelings and I would never, ever actively do so on purpose. Of course just like any human being I’ve made mistakes and unwittingly or carelessly spoken or acted but I always try to make any wrong right. That doesn’t mean I won’t stand up for myself by drawing boundaries and asking to be treated kindly and respectfully but I don’t do that with any rude or unkind intentions just with the same strength and honesty I think every one of us is entitled to.”

I can’t help but feel a little sorry for her. Much of the problem is Katherine’s momager, who had a great hand in shaping the diva personality. Maybe Katherine is telling the truth. She may honestly believe that she is perfectly kind to all cast and crew members, or she may be full of it.

Given that she has a gorgeous physique, Katherine Heigl didn?t flinch when it came time to ditch her clothes and film a nude love scene for her NBC program ?State of Affairs? on Thursday (October 2).
In fact, the former ?Grey?s Anatomy? gal conned all of the show?s crew members into getting topless and snapping an Instagram photo with her in bed.
Wrapped in a white sheet, Katherine smiled for the camera before immediately uploading the image to her social media account.
Heigl included the caption, "Nope I haven't gone into the adult film business? just having a little fun w/ my amazingly supportive crew who shed their shirts in solidarity!! Love you all!!"

This April, Katherine Heigl filed a $6 million lawsuit against the drug store Duane Reade. Their offense? An innocuous tweet in which they posted a paparazzi photo of Heigl carrying Duane Reade grocery bags. A Duane Reade rep tweeted “Love a quick #DuaneReade run? Even @KatieHeigl can?t resist shopping #NYC?s favorite drugstore.” They gave her a shout out on Twitter and everything, assuming it was NBD. Three weeks later, Heigl filed the lawsuit. It’s unknown whether or not she had her lawyer issue a cease & desist first, or whether she asked the company to remove the tweet after it was posted.
Nearly five months later, and Duane Reade and Heigl have reached a settlement. The drug store gave an undisclosed donation to Heigl’s animal charity.
Katherine Heigl has dropped her $6 million lawsuit against the business after they posted paparazzi shots of her carrying the store’s branded bags on their Twitter and Facebook accounts without her consent.
The ‘Knocked Up’ star had accused them of violating New York civil rights statutes which protect use of likenesses for purpose of trade.
The 35-year-old actress is now believed to have come to an agreement with Duane Reade, who will make an undisclosed contribution to the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation in exchange for her dropping the suit at the Manhattan Federal Court.
The star set up the animal-welfare charity with the help of her mother following the death of her late brother in a car accident in 1986.
Katherine’s lawyer, Corey Field, told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘The parties have agreed to keep the terms of the agreement confidential.’
The [actress] had claimed the chain tried to profit from the photo without her ‘knowledge or approval’ by sharing the image featuring the company’s promotional slogans.
The offending tweet, which has now been deleted, read: ‘Love a quick #DuaneReade run? Even @KatieHeigl can?t resist shopping #NYC’s favorite drugstore’.
Peter Haviland at Ballard Spahr added to The Hollywood Reporter: ‘Katherine Heigl and Duane Reade have worked out a mutually beneficial agreement.’

I wish Duane Reade wouldn’t have caved, but I get it. It’s easier to reach a settlement than go to court. It’s nice that the money is going to charity, although I question the validity of this lawsuit. $6 million for one tweet of a photo that the drug store didn’t even take? She should have asked them to delete the tweet and that’s it. Suing seems excessive to say the least.
Maybe Heigl wanted to make sure she wouldn’t get any more negative publicity ahead of her new show, State of Affairs, which comes out on NBC in early November. I doubt it will do well but we’ll see.

About a week ago, news came out that showrunner Ed Bernero (Criminal Minds, Third Watch) was exiting Katherine Heigl’s upcoming TV drama, State of Affairs. Sources were careful to tell EW that “the exit doesn?t have anything to do with the show?s star.” This was a necessary but unconvincing clarification, given Heigl’s well-earned reputation as difficult to work with. (Which she denies despite all evidence to the contrary.) EW’s story didn’t mention Katherine’s momager, Nancy, at all, who is an executive producer on the show and is likely to be a royal pain in the ass to deal with.
Here’s an anecdote from Mike Walker in the National Enquirer which again cements Heigl’s status as difficult. Walker has run previous insider stories on Heigl, and I think he has a source on the State of Affairs set. He claims that Heigl made producers reshoot an entire scene because she didn’t like the way her butt looked. This was eyeroll-inducing for her more professional co-star, Alfre Woodard, who suggested she just use a butt double if she had a problem with it.
Katherine Heigl – viewing dailies of her new “State of Affairs” TV series – suddenly screamed at producers: “Look at how you filmed my BUTT!! My #*%$ ass looks like the size of Nebraska!” Said my on-set spy: “Katherine’s notorious temper’s infuriating people – especially her Emmy Award-winning co-star Alfre Woodard, who got particularly upset when she demanded a reshoot of an entire scene because she felt they hadn’t done a good enough job of flattering her posterior! And when Miss Woodard suggested bringing in a body double with a smaller behind to stand in for Katherine, the proverbial ‘fit really hit the shan.’ Katherine exploded, shrieking, ‘I’ve got the best butt in Hollywood!’

If the facts of this story are true, that Heigl demanded a reshoot of an entire scene because she didn’t like the way her butt looked, that’s ridiculous. Even if she was humorous and self-deprecating in the way she asked for a reshoot (and this story claims she was arrogant and egotistical), it still must cost tens of thousands of dollars to reshoot a scene, not to mention the time and frustration factor. (Breaking Bad cost around $3 million an episode to make, so it’s not a stretch to assume $2 million or more for this show.) Heigl must know how expensive it is to film a scene so you would think she’d try to keep her ego in check.
I’m interested to see how State of Affairs, a thriller and Homeland knockoff, fairs when it stars airing on NBC in November. Halle Berry’s very decent NBC scifi series, Extant, is struggling in the ratings and was moved to a later time slot. (I’m still watching it, I really enjoy that show.) It’s still not known whether it will be renewed. When an actress as captivating and skilled as Berry can’t ensure a TV show’s success, the chances that failed romcom queen Heigl can are incredibly low.

LOOK AT THE PUPPY. Aw. The puppy has sort of a ?FML? face, which I attribute to being a stunt dog assigned the unenviable task of trying to make Katherine Heigl seem likeable. Good Housekeeping also used Katherine?s two daughters in their photoshoot too, because Heigl really is THAT unlikeable and the only way anyone can tolerate her is if we get to see photos of adorable children and puppies. Anyway, Katherine is still shilling her new TV series, which I guess is premiering this fall. So, obviously, she spent the whole interview talking about how much she loved taking a step back from working full time and being in LA? now that she?s back in LA, working full time. Adopting her daughter from South Korea after growing up with an adopted sister: “My family had its own unique look. And I wanted the one I began with my husband to have the same look, in a way.”
Naleigh?s adoption happened faster than expected & Katherine was working a lot: “I would come home angry and frustrated that I’d missed everything with my kid that day. I didn’t get to wake her up from her nap, or do bath time or bedtime. I’d have to sneak into her room and kiss her when she was sleeping, hoping not to wake her up.?
Messed up priorities: “I felt like my priorities were messed up. I was putting so much time and energy into just my work, but I was raised [to believe] that family comes first.” Shortly after returning to Grey’s, she took a family leave and spent a couple of “glorious” months at home, caring for her daughter. It confirmed her growing sense that she’d have to cut ties with the show, and soon afterward, in 2010, she did.
Moving to Utah (except she?s moved back to LA now): “We had big dreams of expanding our family, moving to the mountains and having a quieter life. Utah is spectacularly beautiful, the people are wonderful and kind, it’s an easy commute from L.A. ? and there’s no traffic!”
She was raised Mormon but she?s not any

I don?t think Katherine Heigl?s grand return to television is going as planned. Instead of being asked touchy-feely questions about how she?s feeling and what she?s wearing, Katherine is being asked, point-blank, about her attitude problems, her foot-in-mouth problems and her biggest problem of all: her momager. Heigl is being asked about all of that repeatedly as she tries to promote her new NBC show State of Affairs, even when she?s only speaking to one of the ?nicer? outlets like Entertainment Tonight. I like how you can see the anger flash in her eyes just for half a second before she pushes it away and answers the question. You know she wanted to bitch out the ET reporter. PEASANT! When asked about the bad press that has followed her around for years now, Heigl said: “I’m not going to tell you that it doesn?t hurt my feelings. I’m not going to say that there aren’t times that I wonder if they’re all right, and I’m all wrong, but I’ve also realized that it is a business and those sort of stories sell.” You know what she?s saying, right? She?s saying that she still thinks everybody who criticizes her is a hater and a troll and that she?s committed to being the same diva she?s always been.
Personally, I cannot wait. I cannot wait for all of the stories about her tantrums and fits on the show. I cannot wait for producers to realize what a huge mistake they?ve made.

Getting back into the swing of things, Katherine Heigl smiled for the shutterbugs at the NBA Universal Summer TCA Tour 2014 Day 1 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday (July 13).
The ?Grey?s Anatomy? gal was in the house to promote her comeback series ?State of Affairs,? and she told press that she knew the gig was a perfect vehicle to bring her back into the mainstream.
Heigl noted, ?Something about her feels like an adult to me in ways that other roles haven't. I don't know if it's because I feel like an adult. I feel like I'm finally like a legitimate grown-up with two children and a husband of almost seven years. I feel like a grown-up who has taken on a grown-up role.?
As for her mindset now that she?s a bit older than when she started in the business, Katherine shared, ?I feel more of a sense of peace. I definitely get...I'm a neurotic actor, I'm not gonna lie. I'm absolutely a neurotic actor and we all kind of are, but I'm less atwitter and I'm less defensive and I'm less afraid of what everybody thinks of me. I get my feelings hurt, and I certainly get frustrated because I want to prove I'm something, or prove to people that I'm more than they think, but I don't get quite as aflutter about it as I did in my youth. And I have a deeper understanding of what really matters, and who really matters. Whose opinion really matters. And I'll just look at my husband sometimes and I'll go, 'You know what, I'm doing alright. Because if I were this big of an a--hole, he would not still be here.' He is way too cool to put up with that!?
And Mrs. Heigl hasn?t ruled out a return to ?Grey?s? if the situation presented itself- ?That's not up to me. That's not my decision. But I think the show is fantastic. I have so many wonderful memories. I had so many wonderful experiences. I have some really phenomenal friends and people like T.R. Knight who is like a brother to me, that I can't even imagine my life without. And I can't believe it's been this long. That we've been friends this long. I was 25 when we started. He was 30. Like, what happened? It feels like it was only a couple years ago, It's so weird.?
