Taylor Swift turns 30 years old in a matter of days. It?s amazing what she?s accomplished before turning 30. It seems like just yesterday we were watching her coordinated girl squad strut down the New York City sidewalks. It feels like just yesterday that the Worldwide Tiddlebanging Tour was happening. It feels like just yesterday that Taylor would pop into the gym in full makeup and come out a short time later, clearly not having worked out a bit. Time flies. So what does Taylor hope her 30s bring her? Less negativity, especially about her body and her style, I guess.
As she approaches her 30th birthday on Dec. 13, Taylor Swift is bidding adieu to negativity.
?There are certain parts of my brain that I don?t visit as often, like stressing out about my body, stressing out about being on trend, stressing out about people thinking I?m cool, stressing out about people thinking really anything about me,? the superstar tells PEOPLE in this week?s cover story, in which she?s honored as one of four People of the Year. ?You have to toss out things that don?t serve you. That?s what I think we all try to do when we?re getting older, and you just hope that you?re getting wiser too!?
Going into a new decade of life, the 10-time Grammy winner is feeling ?really happy,? she says. ?I?ve been told by a lot of people [your 30s] are really fun, and I?m having a really good time approaching them.?
She?s also found inspiration in actress Jameela Jamil, an outspoken advocate of body neutrality.
?I really love that there are advocates out there in the world being very vocal about the fact that aging is not a slow march to irrelevancy, death and decay,? says Swift. ?Whenever I feel stress-y about things, I?ll just read some of Jameela Jamil?s quotes about body image and health and normal body weight.?
[From People]
I?ll let Taylor in on a little secret about aging: every year that passes, you honestly do give less and less of a sh-t about what people think about you. I was neurotic about ?what other people think of me? in my teens and early 20s. Years later, I leave the house in no bra and slippers and IDGAF. In Taylor?s case, though, she still cares. Maybe she?s not as neurotic about keeping up appearances and all of that but she still cares. You can tell by her increasingly bizarre insistence that everyone is lying except her, everyone is a bully except her and no one is a victim except her.
Oh, and heres Taylors Christmas single, Christmas Tree Farm. The song is awful. The video is cute, I guess.
Thank you @people, @chiumelo, @danwakeford, and ? Miller Mobley ? https://t.co/Byai8sFql1 pic.twitter.com/jObmAHcuuS

| Taylor Swift flew to London to see Joe Alwyn on Thanksgiving Day | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I didn?t travel over Thanksgiving. Holiday travel is hell on earth and I would never choose that for myself. If I was rich as hell like Taylor Swift, I would spend the money and get everyone to come to me, wherever I was. Taylor was apparently in New York for Thanksgiving Eve, where she likely hosted a Friendsgiving celebration for the last remnants of the Girl Squad (Martha Hunt is still ride-or-die but Karlie Kloss remains in the wind). Then Taylor? flew to London? ON Thanksgiving? What in the world?
Looks like Taylor Swiftis shaking off the last couple of weeks and spending time with her loved ones. For the Thanksgiving holiday, it looks as though Swift is taking a step back to spend some much needed time with her friends and her beau, Joe Alwyn. As you may recall, Swift and Alwyn have been dating for about three years now but have continued to keep their relationship private and under wraps. An E! News source shared that this Thanksgiving, Swift traveled to London to spend the holiday with the 28-year-old actor.
She arrived on Thursday from New York and is spending the weekend there, the source added.
Prior to leaving the country to be with Alwyn, Swift hosted her annual Friendsgiving party with model Gigi Hadid, 30-year-old Martha Hunt and Queer Eyes Antoni Porowski.
Its an annual tradition for Taylor to get together with close friends and do this, an E! News source shared. Many have been at her gathering in years past. This year was intimate and casual, but they all had a great time.
Her friend Hunt shared a sweet picture of the two friends hugging it out for the gram on Thanksgiving, captioning the photo, thankful for friends. Hadid also shared a group picture of the lovely Friendsgiving celebration on her Instagram Story where Swift could be seen taking a sip of wine. Friendsgiving this week , wrote the model on her picture. Love you all sm.
[From E! News]
Maybe Taylor?s Friendsgiving is the new Taymerica Fourth of July party? I hope so, because I think Taymerica parties might be a thing of the past. No more Independence Day parties, and no big Thanksgiving celebration with her family? I mean, Taylor could have spent Thanksgiving with her parents and her brother. But she chose to have her pilot fly her private jet to England ON Thanksgiving Day. Which is a lot. Did? Joe not want to celebrate an American holiday? Did Taylor?s pilot at least get paid extra to fly her overseas on a holiday?

| Taylor Swift kept it 'classy,' didn't call out Scooter Braun by name at the AMAs | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Taylor Swift walked into the American Music Awards last night knowing that she was the center of attention, knowing that people were tuning in just to see what she would say or do about Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta, and whether she would perform her old songs. After all of the orchestrated drama and after inciting her fans to doxx, harass and threaten people, Taylor ?played it safe.? I guess? My snake meter seems to be off, because I didn?t really think she did or said anything notably shady in her performance or in any of the many speeches she made when she picked up trophies for Artist of the Decade, Artist of the Year and Favorite Pop Rock Album. Her red carpet outfit was by Julien Macdonald I felt like she was actually trying to look ?snakey? is that just me?
As for the performance of a medley of her hits? there were a lot of songs from 1989, and the bulk of the medley was devoted to Big Machine-era music, which is the bulk of her catalogue, so that makes sense. It?s still not clear if she was really being ?blocked? at any time from performing those songs live, but whatever. The last song she performed was ?Lover? from her latest album. It was a pretty typical Taylor Swift performance through and through. I guess the ?classy shade? part was the beginning, when she and some dancers wore smocks with all of her old album titles written on the smocks, all as Taylor sang ?The Man,? and then she quickly ?shed? the past.
Here are her speeches throughout the night? I know Carole King has always praised Taylor as a songwriter and all that, but? whew, it was A LOT.

I still don?t really understand what the hell just happened between Taylor Swift and Big Machine. I do not trust Taylor Swift?s narrative, but I also found Big Machine?s carefully worded narrative very shady. What was it all about in the end? Taylor?s right to perform her Big Machine-era music on the American Music Awards? The rights to that music for her Netflix project? Or was this about something else? Maybe it was Taylor flexing at Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun ?see what I can do, I can just post something on social media and my fans will destroy you and shut down your business and doxx and harass your employees.? All in all, I didn?t think Taylor came out looking that good. But? I think her bullying tactic worked?
The show will go on for Taylor Swift on the ?American Music Awards? this Sunday. Following a public dustup concerning permission to perform her older material, whose master rights are owned by Big Machine Label Group, the company (newly owned by Scooter Braun, who purchased it from Scott Borchetta) informed AMAs producers Dick Clark Productions this morning that they have cleared all BMLG artists for performances on the show. The BMLG roster also includes Thomas Rhett, who has been announced to appear on the show.
?The Big Machine Label Group and Dick Clark Productions announce that they have come to terms on a licensing agreement that approves their artists? performances to stream post show and for re-broadcast on mutually approved platforms,? the company said in a statement. ?This includes the upcoming American Music Awards performances. It should be noted that recording artists do not need label approval for live performances on television or any other live media. Record label approval is only needed for contracted artists? audio and visual recordings and in determining how those works are distributed.?
The detente follows last week?s Swift-Braun-Borchetta flare up involving the sort of music business minutiae that doesn?t commonly interest the general public ? the particulars of re-recording old masters. As it relates to the AMAs, an argument could be made that a west coast broadcast of a live show is, technically, a taped version of a song.
[From Variety]
?They have come to terms on a licensing agreement that approves their artists? performances to stream post show and for re-broadcast on mutually approved platforms?? Ah. So it wasn?t really about the big bad mean men bullying poor Tay-Tay, it was about corporate lawyers working out what would happen to the live performances, how the performances could be rebroadcast, and one would assume, go online as well. Is it possible that the original argument was more like Big Machine telling Taylor ?not yet, we have some sh-t we have to work through with Dick Clark Productions? and Taylor was like ?I AM ASSEMBLING THE SNAKE ARMY TO DESTROY YOU??
Update: Apparently, Dick Clark Productions says they didnt work anything out with Big Machine? I have no idea whats happening. From Rolling Stone: ?At no time did Dick Clark Productions agree to create, authorize or distribute a statement in partnership with Big Machine Label Group regarding Taylor Swift?s performance at the 2019 American Music Awards. Any final agreement on this matter needs to be made directly with Taylor Swift?s management team. We have no further comment.? Um that says to me that Taylor threw a fit about Dick Clark Prod. & Big Machine working sh-t out behind her back.

Every few years, Taylor Swift will decide to make the MTV VMAs all about her. At this point, she?s absolutely one of the biggest things in music, so I get it and I don?t even mind it. I prefer Taylor turning the VMAs into The Taylor Show rather than seeing her try to pretend that everything isn?t all about her. Taylor walked the red carpet early in this Versace ensemble, which? is okay, I guess. Taylor?s style theme for Lover is ?pantslessness.? She?s going to wear booty shorts for the next two months. Taylor Momsen says hi.
Taylor opened the VMAs, which CB hated in retrospect CB thinks that Queen Latifah and Naughty By Nature?s performance should have been the opener (rather than the closer). I think Taylor pulls rank with MTV she wants to open the show so she can relax and sit in the audience for the rest of the show. Taylor started with ?You Need to Calm Down,? which was awful, and then she transitioned to ?Lover,? which I actually liked a lot. Her costume = tragedy.
Taylor also won three VMAs over the course of the evening Video of the Year (for YNTCD), Video for Good and Visual Effects. Taylor wants us to know that her NEW squad is full of LGBTQ peeps. She also used her platform to promote the Equality Act, so good for her.

Here?s Part 2 of my coverage of Taylor Swift?s excellent Guardian interview. I have to applaud the Guardian journalist for asking a lot of direct questions, and credit to Taylor for choosing to answer some of those direct questions honestly. Some of Tay?s answers were her regular ?I?m the biggest victim in the world? stuff, but it sort of felt like she was only giving it a half-effort at times. The best part of the interview is the section we?ll discuss in this post, where Taylor goes more in-depth about politics and why she never spoke about candidates or political parties before 2018, and why she?s speaking now. She really does not want to be associated in any way with Donald Trump. Some highlights:
Why she?s more political now: ?The things that happen to you in your life are what develop your political opinions. I was living in this Obama eight-year paradise of, you go, you cast your vote, the person you vote for wins, everyone?s happy! This whole thing, the last three, four years, it completely blindsided a lot of us, me included.?
She was surprised that people couldn?t see that she made her political beliefs clear: ?I did, and I hate to admit this, but I felt that I wasn?t educated enough on it. Because I hadn?t actively tried to learn about politics in a way that I felt was necessary for me, making statements that go out to hundreds of millions of people.?
She didn?t want to become the Dixie Chicks: ?I come from country music. The number one thing they absolutely drill into you as a country artist, and you can ask any other country artist this, is ?Don?t be like the Dixie Chicks!? I watched country music snuff that candle out. The most amazing group we had, just because they talked about politics. And they were getting death threats. They were made such an example that basically every country artist that came after that, every label tells you, ?Just do not get involved, no matter what.?
Feeling voiceless in 2016: ?And then, you know, if there was a time for me to get involved? The worst part of the timing of what happened in 2016 was I felt completely voiceless. I just felt like, oh God, who would want me? Honestly.? She would otherwise have endorsed Hillary Clinton? ?Of course. I just felt completely, ugh, just useless. And maybe even like a hindrance.?
Whether she thought about whether endorsing Hillary Clinton might have made people like her. ?I wasn?t thinking like that. I was just trying to protect my mental health ? not read the news very much, go cast my vote, tell people to vote. I just knew what I could handle and I knew what I couldn?t. I was literally about to break. For a while.? Did she seek therapy? ?That stuff I just really wanna keep personal, if that?s OK.?
She feels remorse about not speaking in 2016: ?It was just me and my life, and also doing a lot of self-reflection about how I did feel really remorseful for not saying anything. I wanted to try and help in any way that I could, the next time I got a chance. I didn?t help, I didn?t feel capable of it ? and as soon as I can, I?m going to.?
On Trump?s election: ?It was the fact that all the dirtiest tricks in the book were used and it worked. The thing I can?t get over right now is gaslighting the American public into being like? ? she adopts a sanctimonious tone ? ??If you hate the president, you hate America.? We?re a democracy ? at least, we?re supposed to be ? where you?re allowed to disagree, dissent, debate.? She doesn?t use Trump?s name. ?I really think that he thinks this is an autocracy.?
On Tennessee?s attempts to ban abortion: ?I mean, obviously, I?m pro-choice, and I just can?t believe this is happening,? she says. She looks close to tears. ?I can?t believe we?re here. It?s really shocking and awful. And I just wanna do everything I can for 2020. I wanna figure out exactly how I can help, what are the most effective ways to help. ?Cause this is just? This is not it.?
[From The Guardian]
The only thing I?ll point out about her non-endorsement in 2016 is that it doesn?t sound like it even occurred to her to endorse Hillary Clinton? because it would have been the right thing to do, or because Taylor wanted to truly be honest with her fans. Even now, Taylor?s explanation for why she didn?t say anything (beyond a general GOTV) was all about how she would be perceived, or what kind of backlash she would get, and maybe a slight concern that her endorsement could hurt Hillary. At some point perhaps when facing down a racist, white supremacist fascist and sexual predator she could have just said ?this is how I feel, I don?t care what the reaction to this is, this is me being honest and I believe in Hillary.?
Left unsaid: in 2016, Katy Perry (Tay?s then-enemy) was Hillary Clinton?s biggest celebrity surrogate, and Kim Kardashian and Kanye attended the big Hillary Clinton fundraiser at Scooter Braun?s house. That was why I always assumed that Taylor avoided endorsing Hillary back then she didn?t want to be associated with her celebrity enemies. Which is an assy reason to not speak up.
I know I?ve devoted a lot of space to nitpicking Taylor?s words and motives, but at the end of the day, I?m genuinely happy that she?s now on the progressive bandwagon, and we truly need all the allies we can get. Taylor?s not a perfect ally, but she never claimed to be (and perfect allies don?t exist). She?s messy and she fully admits that she?s still learning about a lot of these issues. So let?s encourage her and all of the snake fans to keep going, to keep educating themselves, to keep voting and to keep paying attention.

Taylor Swift has an epic new interview in the Guardian, and it?s so good that I?m splitting up the quotes into two posts, because there are so many interesting pieces we need to discuss. Incidentally, THIS is what I?ve been hoping for for years now. Basically, ever since ?the receipts,? I?ve been waiting to see how, when and where Taylor would really start to talk about all of it, from her publicly apolitical stance in the 2016 election to the actual ?receipts? to the Tom Hiddleston summer romance and more. The Hiddleston romance is mentioned by the Guardian writer but Taylor doesn?t mention his name. Instead, she makes repeated references to how she basically had some kind of breakdown in 2016. Here are highlights from Part 1 of Taylor?s Guardian interview:
Her relationship with Joe Alwyn: ?I?ve learned that if I do, people think it?s up for discussion, and our relationship isn?t up for discussion,. If you and I were having a glass of wine right now, we?d be talking about it ? but it?s just that it goes out into the world. That?s where the boundary is, and that?s where my life has become manageable. I really want to keep it feeling manageable.?
Whether she?s lacked self-awareness in 2015/16: ?I definitely think that sometimes you don?t realise how you?re being perceived. Pop music can feel like it?s The Hunger Games, and like we?re gladiators. And you can really lose focus of the fact that that?s how it feels because that?s how a lot of stan [fan] Twitter and tabloids and blogs make it seem ? the overanalysing of everything makes it feel really intense.?
The way she burned bridges in 2016: ?I didn?t realise it was like a classic overthrow of someone in power ? where you didn?t realise the whispers behind your back, you didn?t realise the chain reaction of events that was going to make everything fall apart at the exact, perfect time for it to fall apart.?
On those ?receipts?: She didn?t really respond though she ?definitely? could have. She wrote ?a think-piece a day that I knew I would never publish: the stuff I would say, and the different facets of the situation that nobody knew?. If she could exonerate herself, why didn?t she? She leans forward. ?Here?s why,? she says conspiratorially. ?Because when people are in a hate frenzy and they find something to mutually hate together, it bonds them. And anything you say is in an echo chamber of mockery.?
On being gaslighted/gaslit: ?I?m kinda used to being gaslit by now. And I think it happens to women so often that, as we get older and see how the world works, we?re able to see through what is gaslighting.?
On white privilege: She came to understand ?a lot about how my privilege allowed me to not have to learn about white privilege. I didn?t know about it as a kid, and that is privilege itself, you know? And that?s something that I?m still trying to educate myself on every day. How can I see where people are coming from, and understand the pain that comes with the history of our world??
She was never alone with Harvey Weinstein: ?He?d call my management and be like, ?Does she have a song for this film?? And I?d be like, ?Here it is.? And then I?d be at the Golden Globes. I absolutely never hung out. And I would get a vibe ? I would never vouch for him. I believe women who come forward, I believe victims who come forward, I believe men who come forward.? She says Weinstein never propositioned her. ?If you listen to the stories, he picked people who were vulnerable, in his opinion. It seemed like it was a power thing. So, to me, that doesn?t say anything ? that I wasn?t in that situation.?
[From The Guardian]
In case you haven?t read the full Guardian piece, please do because it?s a good read. It?s also obvious that Taylor has recently learned about ?gaslighting? and much like the time she learned about feminism, she?s making gaslighting her new thing and it?s all about her! We?re all gaslighting her. The public gaslights pop stars? or women in general. Or maybe just Taylor! I mean, there?s an argument to be made that women have been gaslighted for millennia, but? Taylor can?t see past her own nose, kind of.
It?s also clear that 2016 was the before/after year for Taylor, and I agree with that there is Taylor?s career and persona before 2016, and then there?s her career and persona after 2016. It?s not just the receipts, it was the confluence of everything. The receipts, the Hiddleston relationship, meeting Joe, the end of the Calvin Harris thing, the end of the performative squad-ing, the last Taymerica party, and on and on.
What else? I don?t hate her answer about white privilege, because she?s right most white people don?t really understand their privilege until they get older, until they see how other people are treated differently, until they get called out for being clueless and in their own little white-person bubble. The one thing I hate about her answer is that she was only talking about the Nicki Minaj incident, when Minaj criticized the VMAs and Taylor chimed in. Taylor will only discuss her white privilege in that context, not in any other. Part 2 is about Taylor?s politics!

| Page Six: Taylor Swift 'overreacted' to situations with Karlie Kloss & Scooter Braun | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Taylor Swift?s new album, Lover, comes out in a few weeks. I imagine we?ll have even more Tay-Tay coverage on a daily basis as of now. I thought her September Vogue interview was good in that A) we hadn?t gotten an in-depth interview from Taylor in years and it was great to see her so prepared & ready to talk and B) Taylor is always fun to talk about and dissect. Now that we?re days past the Vogue drop, it?s fascinating to me how Taylor controlled every single part of her narrative in the piece, and she didn?t have to answer any questions about Tom Hiddleston or Karlie Kloss, and she merely skated past this year?s Summer Beef (the Scooter Braun thing) with a one-sentence quote. So, obviously, the gossip press is going to fill the vacuum of what was left unsaid. Page Six had a long, juicy, dishy read about Taylor and how she overplayed her hand by cancelling her friendship with Karlie Kloss, and then it just goes from there. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:
Why did Taylor & Karlie fall out? Swift has previously said that Kloss had her very own room, complete with her favorite snack foods at the ready, at the singer?s $47.7 million Tribeca compound. But an insider told The Post that Swift was ?furious? when Kloss invited friends over to the home without first getting approval.
A Kloss source says that a simple fight turned into something else: Although both camps deny this [apartment thing] was the exact reason for their split, a person close to Kloss admits that the two had a tiff that turned into ?something crazy.? ?Taylor got upset over something crazy and then she just alienated Karlie,? she told The Post.
Taylor overreacts: Sources say this is just another example of Swift, whose new album, ?Lover,? is out Aug. 23, overreacting to a situation. In fact, Swift turned down invites to both of Kloss? wedding ceremonies when she married her long-term boyfriend last year, according to a source close to both camps. ?She always does the same thing: She trips up when she goes further than she needed to,? said a source close to music manager Scooter Braun.
A source close to Scooter Braun says Taylor misrepresents constantly: ?She didn?t need to say that she didn?t get told about the deal, when there is clear proof and text messages sent to her. She did the same thing about the Kim K-and-Kanye row [and then] Kim just published the conversation online.?
Taylor is immature? ?She became famous very young,? said a music executive in the know. ?And the behavior that we might accept from a young girl ? stamping your feet, acting petulant ? no longer stands when you?re a grown woman.?
Her latest reinvention: Her latest reinvention, for ?Lover,? finds the singer ? who has been dating British actor Joe Alwyn for three years ? seemingly in love with love, amid a wash of rainbows. ?It?s difficult to tell who she really is ? does she even know who she is?? asked one top music insider. ?She can act like poor little rich girl, when she has no need to,? said one source of the singer who owns $84 million in real estate and three planes.
Who is she, a diva or a dream? One person who has worked closely with Swift described her to The Post as ?a pill,? while another who was part of the recent Vogue cover shoot called her ?heavenly to work with.? One thing insiders seem to agree on is that, with Swift, everything is personal ? and, in her anger, she sometimes has tunnel vision. A source who has worked extensively with Braun said of the Big Machine deal, ?This is business, what doesn?t Taylor get about this? He was not doing this just to spite her ? and she?s acting like it was a personal vendetta.? The music executive gets the last word: ?Taylor is calculating and shrewd. Not that that?s a bad thing, but anyone who doesn?t think she feels like she has something to prove with ?Lover? is totally wrong. She wants to win.?
[From Page Six]
When Taylor talks about how the criticism of her music/life/persona is often gendered and sexist, I often see her point. ?Taylor is calculating and shrewd.? She is, I agree. But we would use different descriptors if she was a man. We would say ?brilliant, aware, a true professional, next-level corporate thinker, PR expert.? Taylor IS brilliant? about some things. And she?s a messy, emotionally immature idiot about other things. That?s the duality of the Snake Lyfe. And I still have no idea what happened with Karlie Kloss. But I think that whatever happened, Taylor probably did ?overreact? and what could have been a simple fight ended up calcifying into a massive Cold War/Beef.

| Taylor Swift in a Versace ensemble at the Teen Choice Awards: cute or dated? | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some photos from last night?s Teen Choice Awards. You can see the list of winners here there was lots of love for Avengers: Endgame, obviously. And lots of love for Aladdin, which seems odd, but sure. That movie was surprisingly popular. Anyway, no one was as big a winner as Taylor Swift, who received the first-ever Teen Choice Icon Award. Taylor didn?t do any costume changes, she just wore this same Versace ensemble for everything. I? don?t hate this? I mean, it?s basically a very short onesie, but it IS cute and it suits Taylor. I like the jacket with the playsuit too. As for her hair? this is maybe the best bangs-styling I?ve seen for Taylor?s hair, quite honestly. She?s leaning into volume and a Brigitte Bardot look.
US Soccer star Alex Morgan presented Taylor with the award and here?s part of what Taylor had to say:
?We have a lot to talk about. Wow. First I want to talk about Alex Morgan. The fact that she?s here presenting this to me is such an honor. While they were winning the World Cup they were also taking a historic stand in terms of gender equality, gender pay gap. Please, please, please support her and her teammates because this isn?t over yet. It?s not resolved? What happened to them is unfair, it?s happening everywhere and they are heroes and icons for standing up.?
?I think one thing I wish I would have known when I was a teen are mistakes are inevitable. Sometimes you think if you try hard enough to make every decision perfectly, you think you can possibly ace life and never make mistakes. But it?s normal to make mistakes. If you?re out there and you?re being really hard on yourself right now for something that?s happened, or messing up or feeling embarrassed, it?s normal. That?s what going to happen to you in life. No one gets through unscathed. We?re all going to have a few scratches on us? Please be kind to yourselves and stand up for yourself, please.?
[From JustJared]
LOL, so at no point does Taylor recommend that people acknowledge their mistakes and apologize for them? She?s like ?everyone make mistakes but NEVER ADMIT YOUR MISTAKES OR APOLOGIZE FOR THEM.?
More photos from the Teen Choice Awards? I love Jessica Alba?s Oscar De La Renta summer dress. I would just take off the neck tie and it would be perfect.
Lucy Hale in Jean Paul Gaultier. This does NOT look like Gaultier. Is it, like, off the rack Gaultier?
Sarah Hyland in a Teresa Helbig ensemble. Not my cup of tea, and sort of early ?00s. Paris Hilton would have worn this in 2001.

| Taylor Swift's third 'Lover' single, 'The Archer,' is actually the strongest song so far | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Some Taylor Swift fans maintain that Taylor has a weird habit of making her albums? weakest songs the first singles. Looking back on it, I sort of see that, although I think ?Look What You Made Me Do? and ?Shake It Off? were chosen as the first singles of Reputation and 1989 respectively because they were the MOST pop/radio friendly. Does that make sense? ?Shake It Off? was basic-pop and ?LWYMMD? was a statement of intent with a decent hook. But yeah, obviously those songs were not the strongest of those albums. Taylor seemed to try the same formula for Lover: she released ?ME!,? a self-absorbed anthem that said nothing and was so light and fluffy, it actually came across as juvenile and asinine. The second single was ?You Need To Calm Down,? which at least a ?message.? That message was lowkey drowned out by some problematic lyrical and video choices, but still, we set the bar so low for Tay and she sort of met it.
Given the light and airy visuals for Lover, I kept thinking that the songs like ?ME!? and ?YNTCD? would be the exceptions, not the rule. I expected more ballads and sweet, sad, romantic songs. Finally, she gave us one. Taylor dropped ?The Archer? on Tuesday and this is probably the strongest song from Lover thus far.
Taylor is at her best as a songwriter and singer when she does songs like ?The Archer.? I?m tired of beefs and performative friendships and pseudo-LGBTQ anthems. She thrives when she does love songs. You know who else thrives at love songs? Adele. Adele rarely veers from that lane and it?s fine. Would the Snake Army really have been upset if Taylor?s Lover was just an album full of ballads?
