Do you ever have a moment when you feel bad for Goopy Paltrow? I do, every once in a while. Mostly I just laugh at her for being so smug and snotty, but on occasion, there?s a crack in the armor and you get just a passing glimpse of the real Gwyneth, the one who is married to a man she barely sees or knows, the one who probably spends his free time boning Kate Bosworth amongst other icy, snotty blondes, the one who seems supremely annoyed with all things Goop. I?m annoyed by Goop too, and I don?t want to spend any time with her - but I didn?t marry her and have babies with her, so Chris Martin should perhaps grow a set and spend more than a few days a year with his wife. Anyway, my pity party for Goop starts with Gwyneth telling a story about how she had to learn how to play the guitar for her role in Country Strong - and how Chris Martin didn?t even deign to give her any lessons:
Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed she was reduced to tears from the pain of trying to learn to play the guitar for her role as a country and western singer. The actress said her hands were ‘bleeding and cramped’ from hours of instruction before she could begin filming Country Strong.
A session musician - rather than her rock star husband Chris Martin from Coldplay - was her teacher.
‘I played all the time, and my hands were bleeding and cramping,’ she said. ‘It sucked. I cried five times at various points over the four months. It’s really f***ing hard. It’s much harder than it looks.’
Paltrow revealed just how well she has mastered playing the instrument during her sensational appearance at last week’s Country Music Awards in Tennessee. She sang the title song from the film Country Strong and said she had prepared for her Nashville debut by downing a pint of Guinness.
Paltrow, 38, began guitar lessons at her London home four months before starting filming. British session musician Mark Jaimes, who has played with Simply Red, was her tutor. He told a US magazine that despite being married to a musician she did ‘not even know how to hold the guitar’.
Paltrow said she had 20 lessons and joked that her husband was too busy to help but was ‘encouraging’.
‘Like he has time to be my guitar teacher,’ said Paltrow. ‘I think he’s doing okay with his day job. I’m not sure he is going to take up guitar teaching. But he was encouraging.’
Paltrow had to learn the guitar for the final scene in the film which also stars real life country music star Tim McGraw. She said she was determined not to ‘fake’ the scene.
‘I was going into such another world, and I wanted it to be as authentic as possible.’
Despite her new found skill Paltrow said she has no ambitions to form a group.
‘I’m not going to make a guitar-band album or anything like that,’ she said. ‘But it’s useful for kids’ birthdays.’
[From The Daily Mail]
I mean? she?s trying to be smug about her busy, rock-star husband, but instead she reveals that he couldn?t be bothered to involve himself in anything to do with her. I really wonder if Chris gives a sh-t at all. I really doubt it.
I?m sure it was hard for Goop to learn a new skill like that - although I kind of wonder how much she really learned about actually playing, or if she just learned how to ?fake it.? Because when I saw her perform at the CMAs, I noticed that it didn?t really look like she was doing much with her prop guitar other than fake-strumming it occasionally. You couldn?t even hear it.

Gearing up for her big Country Music Awards debut, Gwyneth Paltrow was spotted at the 2010 CMA Awards in Nashville, TN on Wednesday (November 10).
The actress turned country singer looked fabulous as she made her way through the press area before heading inside the Bridgestone Arena.
Of her first-ever CMA performance, Gywn told a Chicago radio station, "Ah, yes ... I can't use the language that I want to use on the radio, but yes (I'm scared).?
"If I don't faint -- if I get through it -- it'll be okay. Most people start in a bar .. then a bigger bar, then a theater. You're not supposed to just start at the CMAs!"

For her role in the new flick ?Country Strong,? Gwyneth Paltrow was ordered to put on twenty pounds. And her personal trainer winced with apprehension.
Tracy Anderson, Gwyn?s fitness guru, told People that watching Paltrow throw dietary caution to the wind was tough.
Anderson shared,"They wanted her to eat a lot of fried chicken. It was frustrating for me, but they wanted her to gain."
Tracy also noted that this was the first film that required Gwyneth to get out of shape. "When I trained her for the first Iron Man movie, I took 30 pounds off her. And she's been consistent ever since."

Stepping out to promote her latest work, Gwyneth Paltrow was on-hand for the "Country Strong" premiere at Regal Green Hills in Nashville, Tennessee on Monday (November 8).
Making the red carpet stop well ahead of the film's slated January 7th release date, the outing comes just two days before Miss Paltrow is scheduled to take the stage as a performer at the 44th annual CMA Awards.
As for "Country Strong," Gwyneth's co-star Tim McGraw recently spoke with OK! about his experience filming alongside the Oscar winning actress.
In attendance at the premiere with wife Faith Hill, he said, "The biggest challenge was to be on the screen with Gwyneth. You just want to play to the level [of] the person you're playing against. It certainly made me a better actor, being there with her. Everybody around her rises when she's in a scene."
Also mentioning Paltrow's singing abilities, McGraw dished, "She's a great country singer, because when it came out, it was pure honesty. You know, the thing about country music, it's such an honest [type of] music."
Other stars turning up for the Nashville premiere of "Country Strong" included Leighton Meester, James Marsden, Tobey Maguire, Martina McBride and Sara Evans.

We?ve known for weeks about Gwyneth Paltrow?s visit to the television machine for peasants. Otherwise known as her guest appearance on Glee. She?s going to be on for two episodes, and it is unknown exactly who or what her character is going to be in the story line, although from what I?ve seen of Glee, ?story? isn?t what they?re selling. Anyway, Goopy is shilling her new movie, Country Strong, the film where she pretends to get loaded and twang it up like Britney Spears. She already deigned to sing ?country? for a music video, and she?s going to perform the same ?single? at the Country Music Awards next week (which should be delicious). Now Entertainment Weekly has a scoop on Goopy?s Glee appearance - specifically, what song she?s going to sing. Wait for it? Cee Lo Green?s hit single ?F-ck You?. Or, in Glee-speak, ?Forget You?. Ugh.
Gwyneth Paltrow will be singing Cee Lo Green?s ?F? You? on Glee in two weeks, Fox confirmed. I maintain this is a better song for Mr. Schue, but I?m officially curious. Perhaps it will be country strong!
The song is going to be sanitized to ?Forget You,? which is so substantially less catchy, and seeing the world?s poshest human sing about not being able to afford a Ferrari will provide some interesting cultural dissonance. But there?s a part of me that thinks this could be kind of adorable? If she is all sassy and campy about it? And it?s sort of joke-y? Hm.

Have you heard ?F-ck You?? It?s a great song. It?s soulful and funny and sassy. Would you use any of those words to describe Goopy? That being said, I bet Lea Michele is quaking in her boots with Goopy?s appearance. Lea Michele wishes she could bring Goopy?s level of snotty bitchery to the world. But, to give Lea a break, I will say this: Gwyneth has had decades to practice her snottiness. Lea seems new to the smug game.
Here?s Cee Lo?s song. NSFW language:

Currently situated on the west coast, Gwyneth Paltrow was spotted making her way around Beverly Hills, California on Thursday (October 21).
Looking casual cute in a grey top, faded olive jacket, jeans and flip-flops, the "Iron Man 2" actress was accompanied by a security staffer as she visited a local medical building before continuing along with the day's agenda.
As previously reported by GossipCenter, Miss Paltrow recently was announced as a performer at the 44th Annual Country Music Association Awards on Wednesday, November 10.
Set to treat the audience to a live rendition of her song ?Country Strong? (from her upcoming movie), Gwyn recently shared that she was taken aback by how well received the song was by Sony Music Nashville honcho Joe Galante.

I pretty much called it - I said that it would make my life if Gwyneth Paltrow had to deign to promote her country-music film Country Strong at one of the country music awards shows, and here we go. Us Weekly is confirming that Goopy will not only be in attendance at the CMAs next month, but that she will PERFORM. How delightful! Oh, this day just keeps getting better!
Gear up, Gwyneth fans: She’s making her live country singing debut. The actress, 38, is set to perform the title track from her upcoming drama, Country Strong, at The 44th Annual CMA Awards Wed., Nov. 10 (8:00-11:00 p.m. EST) on ABC. She will be joined by legendary singer Vince Gill.
A few days later, on Nov. 16, she makes her debut on Fox’s Glee. Paltrow has said she is shocked at the positive reception to her singing voice. When Sony Music Nashville chair Joe Galante first heard her sing “Country Strong,” “he was like, ‘I want to release this as the single,’” she recently told EW. “I was like, ‘Excuse me please? What? What is going on?’”
Paltrow’s drama, Country Strong, hits the big screen in December.

Since I?m calling things, I?ll say this: at some point during Goopy?s performance, the camera will pan to either Faith Hill or Carrie Underwood, and they will be making a major bitchface. My guess is Carrie, but Faith is a solid possibility, considering Tim McGraw is in Country Strong, and considering that Goopy is all ?my dear friend Faith.? Here?s the video again? Goopy can?t even deign to have big country hair!
