Jude Law is currently promoting Firebrand, where he plays late-in-life Henry VIII. They cast a former pretty-boy to play the former pretty-boy king. Thankfully, Jude has aged better than Henry VIII although I still wince whenever I see Jude?s current hairline. Still, I understand why he has so many babies (seven at last count). Jude recently chatted about Firebrand, British royalty, Hollywood and the 1990s with the Times. Some highlights:
On Hollywood: ?Hollywood?s a hungry machine. Always looking for the new kid on the block. The attention cools off if your movies are not making a ton of money. There is a definite tier system as to who is offered what first, and if the work is not coming in as freely you have to consider what you want to do.?
On Firebrand. He thinks the film is about ?surviving domestic abuse? and Law speaks of Henry as ?a gangster ? a former golden boy who?s rotting?. And as he continues speaking of ?fear?, ?despicable behaviour?, ?physical ownership? and ?sheer brutality.?
The comparison to Harvey Weinstein: ?Yeah. Honestly, I never thought of him specifically ? I didn?t focus in on Harvey?s life and downfall. But I was very aware that Henry symbolises the downfall of many men who soared through life with great success and got drunk on power, abused it and fell. And so Harvey must have crossed my mind. That disregard ??
Whether he?s a royalist? ?I don?t know that I am. I?m intrigued by their history. But I?ve never been a great believer in treating someone a certain way because they are born under a title. And I don?t know that I want to bow down to anyone, personally.?
Why he does studio films: ?Indie films don?t pay, so sometimes you get a franchise and go, ?Fantastic, I can put that extension on my house.??
The ?90s revival: ?I?ve been thinking about that. We always talked about the phone being the downfall of that era, that way of living. But, that said, we were all 20 then and now we?re all 50. It was a good time to be 20. I?ve got such fond memories, I don?t know that I want to try and relive them.?
He?s enthusiastic: ?Enthusiasm doesn?t seem very palatable in the UK. But then I?ve always felt like I don?t really fit in.?
[From The Times]
?But I?ve never been a great believer in treating someone a certain way because they are born under a title. And I don?t know that I want to bow down to anyone, personally.? It honestly just struck me that Jude isn?t one of those British actors who play the game with the Windsors he?s not looking to socialize with the Windsors, he rarely attends events with them and he?s not cozying up to any charities or patronages associated with them. That?s interesting. He just does his own thing and moves around in Hollywood and British productions. He?s the quiet small-r republican. Good for him.

| Sienna Miller: After Jude Law cheated, 'there's a whole six weeks' that I don't remember' | Added 3 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Sienna Miller had a recent interview with the Daily Beast to promote her latest film, Wander Darkly. Sienna has quietly been building a somewhat interesting career for herself in her 30s arguably, motherhood ?settled her down? from her Tabloid Twenties, where she had a series of relationships which kept her in the headlines but overshadowed her career. It all started with Jude Law. When Sienna and Jude started up, she became the biggest It Girl of the ?00s. It all came crashing down in the late summer of 2005, when the tabloids discovered that Jude was banging his kids? nanny, and Jude and Sienna broke off their engagement. What followed was a relationship with Rhys Ifans and a whirlwind public affair with the very married Balthazar Getty. Balthy and Rhys don?t get any shout-outs in this interview, but Sienna speaks at length about the 2005 drama with Jude. Some highlights:
Performing in As You Like It just after Jude cheated: ?That was one of the most challenging moments I hope I?ll ever have to experience. Because with that level of public heartbreak, to have to get out of a bed let alone stand in front of 800 people every night, it?s just the last thing you want to do. It was really hard. And the other thing was, it was at the height of all that paparazzi madness, and in London where there was an epidemic of bad behavior. They knew where I would be every nightThere?s a whole six weeks of that experience that I don?t remember. I have no recollection of it. People who came to see me said we had dinner, and I don?t remember. I was in so much shock over it all. And I?d really just begun. I was only 23. But if you get through that, you feel like you can get through anything.?
The News of the World was hacking her at that time too: ?I?m pretty resilient. There were moments where it came close to making me really feel crazy, and it was incredibly aggressive. The way I managed it was to get really litigious, start suing. I secretly recorded paparazzi on a lighter that was a camera, and got a privacy act taken to a high court to get the law changed in England, which essentially means that if I?m anywhere or coming out of anywhere where I can expect privacy they?re not allowed to take my photo. It was a long battle, and I think I was really paranoid. There was so much noise that it was hard to think straight and focus on my work, which I always took very seriously. It ate everything else. I look back on it and wonder how I did get through it?but I did.?
On the fake baby in American Sniper: ?I actually want to get that baby! I just like the moment where Bradley?s holding it and he tries to make it look real by wiggling its little arm. We?ve laughed about that many times. It?s funny, because I think there was at one time a real baby, then there was an animatronic baby, and I don?t know why we had a doll baby in that scene. But look, the movie worked!?
Memories of Heath Ledger: ?A boat would pick me up in the morning, take me across the Grand Canal, and pick up Heath in an apartment which was opposite mine. We?d have a Walkman with two earbuds, and he?d have one and I?d have the other, and we got to ride down the Grand Canal listening to music on the way to work. We shot in St. Mark?s Square, and the only day they gave us permission to shoot was when the city flooded, so by the time we were doing our close-ups we were up to our waists in water! The whole thing was like a fairy tale, and it?s bittersweet looking back at that film because I miss him. He was a friend and such a great talent, and to spend any amount of time with him was a gift.?
Her roles in her 30s: ?As I?ve gotten older, I?m more selective about the kinds of things I want to do. And I think because the tides have turned in Hollywood, people are more focused on examining what a female experience is?the female gaze, essentially. But then I look back on Factory Girl and Interview, which are characters that were very layered and complex. I think the noise of that decade was overwhelming what was actually going on in my work.?
[From The Daily Beast]
I mean, yeah, that 2005/Jude Law era of her life was legitimately crazy. She was just enjoying herself, being an It Girl, thinking she would marry this handsome actor. And then everything exploded and she couldn?t walk anywhere without ten paparazzi harassing her. I?ve always sort of wondered after everything that happened to her with the British media, if that?s why she decided to move permanently to New York. I also think LA was never an option for her because Balthazar Getty?s wife Rosetta is one of the most well-connected women in LA, and Sienna would have been shunned. All of that can be true at once!

Jude Law and Phillipa Coan had a quiet wedding almost one year ago exactly. Jude had obviously been married before (Sadie Frost) and had been engaged before (Sienna Miller) and it?s actually been sort of nice to see him so settled down and comfortable with a seemingly quiet woman who works outside of the film industry Coan is reportedly some kind of psychologist or therapist. Jude is 47, Phillipa is 32. Jude is also already the father of five children three by Sadie Frost, one by Samantha Burke and one by Catherine Harding. His thing with Burke was just a fling, but I think he actually had a relationship with Harding, however brief. My point is that Jude has had a lot of child support payments for many years. So I was surprised this past February when he talked about his openness to having another kid with Phillipa. Turns out, they were probably already expecting:
Jude Law, 47, is expecting his first child with his wife Phillipa Coan, 32, MailOnline can exclusively reveal. The actor, who is already a father of five, was joined by his wife during a trip to the shops on Sunday, where the behavioural psychologist was showing a clear bump. Radiant Phillipa had a bump peeking from beneath her tight black top as she took a trip to the shops with her husband ? just over a year after they got married.
Phillipa was dressed in navy loungewear and sunglasses as bearded Sherlock Holmes star Law carried the bags at an upmarket grocery store in north London.
The pregnancy comes months after Jude, who already has five children with three previous partners, revealed that he would ?absolutely? be open to having more. The Talented Mr Ripley actor said: ?I love it, so absolutely why not? I?m very lucky to be involved with someone I?m madly in love withThe idea of having more children would be just wonderful. I?m fortunate to be with someone where I?m having more fun than I?ve ever had in my life.?
[From The Daily Mail]
I?m including the bump pics below she?s already pretty far along, well into her second trimester. I mean? congrats to them? I don?t have any kind of read on Phillipa, but I think she?s good for him. He?s seemed happier and just calmer since they got together, and he clearly loves having babies with all kinds of ladies.

I was a little bit surprised when Jude Law got married again last year. Jude?s personal/romantic life had been a mess for years, and when he started up with Phillipa Coan, I didn?t think they would last she?s 15 years younger than him and not in the Hollywood/London entertainment community. She?s a psychologist! Like, a real professional with a regular day job. I just didn?t think it would last, but it did and they did a lowkey half-elopement at a town hall in England last May. Coan seems to have been a big stabilizing force on Jude, and he seems happier in general. Of course, the man has also fathered five children that we know of. So would he have one more with Phillipa? He says he would:
Jude Law said it would be wonderful to have another child with wife Phillipa Coan. The actor, 47, admitted to the Daily Telegraph that he would absolutely love to have a sixth child with the psychologist, 32. Gushing about the possibility, he said: Of course! Absolutely. Im fortunate to be with someone where Im having more fun than Ive ever had in my life.
Jude shares 23-year-old Rafferty, 19-year-old Iris, and 17-year-old Rudy with his first wife Sadie Frost, Sophia, 10, with Samantha Burke, and four-year-old Ada with Catherine Harding.
Of their relationship, and how they have a stable and healthy, wonderful family existence, he continued: And that involves my kids who are young adults and then the younger ones are just so much joy and so much fun. I love it, so absolutely, why not [have another]? Im very lucky to be involved with someone Im madly in love with. So the idea of having more children would be just wonderful.
He told the publication that he is now a more stable and boring and level-headed person than he has been in the past, so he doesnt feel the need to keep his personal life in the public eye.
[From The Daily Mail]
Jude is 47 years old now maybe the post-Sadie years were his ?lost years? or some kind of almost-midlife crisis. I certainly thought (at the time) that his thing with Sienna Miller was very midlife-crisis-y, and then he cheated on her with the nanny, and then he kept getting women pregnant, and on and on. That was basically a 12-year stretch. Did his work suffer during that time? It didn?t really he?s always worked a lot (gotta support all those kids) and he?s always had a lot of variety in the projects he?s chosen. It?s kind of cool that the beautiful young man turned into an attractive character actor, right? Anyway, he probably will have another kid with his wife. And maybe he?s just that kind of guy he wanted to have a lot of kids. Sigh?
I love his coat.

A few years ago, people rediscovered Jude Law when they became obsessed with the miniseries The Young Pope. Jude Law starred as the erstwhile ?young pope? who is basically young (for a pope) and hot (for a pope) and is billed as, like, the James Dean of popes. But in reality, he just had the same kind of old-school conservatism as every other pope. The Young Pope, despite the jokes, ended up being a mediation on power and PR and religion. Anyway, the series ended with (spoiler) the young pope going into a coma. So it?s time for a new miniseries/second season: The New Pope. With John Malkovich taking over the pope-ing and Jude Law?s young pope chilling out in a coma, having vivid dreams about girls in bikinis:
Paolo Sorrentino spoke to Variety ahead of The New Pope?s premiere in Venice, talking about the concept for the second season:
The concept is simple. The basic idea is to latch on to the end of the first season. The pope, played by Jude Law, goes into a coma that, from a scientific standpoint, is considered irreversible and can only end up in death. So the church has to resort to a new pope, who is played by John Malkovich. But since we are in a territory where reason is overtaken by spiritual mysteries and by God, Jude Law?s coma may not be so irreversible. It may have some unexpected novelties, so that two popes can co-exist in the episodes that follow.
[From Variety]
If two popes coexist as popes, is there really a Catholic Church? Who knows. It?s like the 25th amendment, but make it pope. Mostly, I can?t believe John Malkovich gave up his role in Billions for this mess! He was SO GOOD in Billions. He did a terrible Russian accent and helped protect Asia Kate Dillion?s character. I miss him. But now he?s a grizzled pope.
And yes, I just wanted to reuse these photos of Jude in his Papal Speedo.

Back in the day, Jude Law would get a lady pregnant just by looking at her. He was getting everybody pregnant! He has three kids with his first wife Sadie Frost, then he had two kids with random girlfriends/hookups, right? There was also the chaos of the Sienna Miller years, and there were a few somewhat serious relationships after that. But for at least four years now, Jude has been quietly in a committed relationship with Phillipa Coan. Coan isn?t an actress or part of Hollywood or the London scene at all she?s some kind of psychologist and professional with her own company which deals with work environments and behavioral therapy. There were rumors of an engagement between Coan and Law for a while, and I?ve thought for some time that they probably were lowkey engaged but not really focused on having a wedding. As it turns out, that was probably the case:
Hollywood actor Jude Law tied the knot with his lover on Tuesday. Jude, 46, and business psychologist Phillipa Coan shunned showbiz pals and invited only close family to the low-key ceremony. Jude and Phillipa, 32, arrived for the civil ceremony at Old Marylebone Town Hall in central London in a chauffeur-driven Range Rover at 11:40 a.m.
He was spotted helping his bride-to-be from the black 44 before gripping her hand as they made their way up the stone steps for the ceremony. They emerged about an hour later with their wedding bands proudly on display then got back into their waiting vehicle without posing for any pictures.
[From Page Six]
Congrats to them. What I like about them is that they never hid their relationship, but they didn?t promote it either like, I don?t think they?ve ever walked a carpet together, but she often travels with him on location, and they seem genuinely close. He probably enjoys the fact that she?s outside of his industry. And she enjoys the fact that he?s still really beautiful.
You know who Phillipa reminds me of? One of Meryl Streep?s daughters she totally could pass for Mamie or Grace Gummer.

Here are some photos from this past weekend?s Rome premiere and premiere-party for The Young Pope, the new ITV series starring Jude Law as a terrible young fictional pope. The story is supposed to be like House of Cards-goes-to-the-Vatican, wherein everyone loves the handsome young pope but it turns out he holds the same terrible, arch-conservative ideas as everybody else in the Vatican. To promote the series, Jude gave a really interesting interview to the Telegraph, which you can read here. He chats about the role, filming in Italy, the paparazzi and more. The best section is where he?s talking about Brexit, I think. Some highlights:
The Vatican approves of this series: ?It isn?t trying to shock. It would be more shocking if Lenny was having rent boys up to the Vatican and smoking pot. But he?s not. He?s a conservative. In fact, he?s a prude. He?s homophobic, he?s anti-divorce, he?s anti-abortion and all those things are in the scriptures. He?s standing up for things we know are questionable within the rules. It?s more about a man trying to rein in and understand his own crisis of faith.?
His own religious beliefs: ?I went through this phase, I remember, sort of dipping into Buddhism and spirituality, if you know what I mean. But it?s very interesting, our relationship with the Church, even if you?re not religious. One aspect of it that I really took away from this experience was its theatricality. It?s like the birthplace of theatre, with its love of costumes and scriptures and lights and sets.?
Conservative faith anywhere is terrifying: ?There is something terrifying about conservative faith, as we all know, as we are all experiencing and seeing. I think it?s important not to lose our heads. But at the same time, it?s certainly moving in a direction that I find distasteful and uncomfortable. Anything that divides as opposed to bringing us together is worrying.?
How he feels post-Brexit: ?I had a couple of weeks of serious depression post-Brexit, if I?m honest. I was stunned that I clearly lived somewhere where I didn?t know what half the population felt. And initially, there was a sense of anger at that, then I thought: ?This is actually a sad situation, this is something we have to do something about.? How do we understand and reshape this country? How do we move forward? If it becomes an ?us and them? situation, it will only underline the problems we already have. I had to reflect on the fact that the country felt so divided, more of a sense of, ?Good Lord!? I don?t think anyone saw it coming and it felt suddenly like I was alienated in my own country. I didn?t understand what the country was obviously feeling and going through, that it was in such an extreme state, and that upset me. I think being British is something I?ve always held dear. Certainly being a Londoner. I?m not a great patriot, but I?m certainly someone who feels English out there on the international market. And it just left me feeling confused, I suppose. Separated somehow.?
Whether he thinks of leaving Britain: ?Yeah, that?s always flashing through my brain. But I never have. In my early 30s, late 20s, when my marriage and my family were very young, I remember discussing uprooting and going travelling. We always get a bit disgruntled about where we live for a while, but then in reality, where would I go? Maybe in the next 20 or 30 years I?ll find somewhere. At the moment, I?m thinking of moving out of London rather than out of Great Britain. We?ll see; it?s not going to happen at the moment. The kids are still at school.?
[From The Telegraph]
It?s interesting how the Brexit debacle has mimicked the Donald Trump phenomenon in America. I think most of us understood that when we elected Barack Obama in 2008, of course there was going to be a backlash because that?s the political/social reality. But who among us could have predicted that the backlash to eight years of a moderate-progressive Democratic presidency would be the unhinged monster Donald Trump? That?s what moderate-progressive people feel in Britain about Brexit: ?do I even know my own country?? and ?I thought we were better than this as a nation.?
Also: I will give Jude $10 if he stops wearing drop-crotch parachute pants.

Earlier this month, in the midst of promoting his supporting part in Spy, Jude Law stepped out a few times with his new girlfriend, Phillipa Coan. We didn?t have access to those (exclusive) photos, so you can see Phillipa and Jude together here. She?s very beautiful, very blonde, very model-y and she?s 29 years old. She?s also a doctor of psychology. Doctor, heal thyself! For some reason, Jude Law still gets to sleep with accomplished, beautiful women? even though he?s 42 years old and he recently became a father for the fifth time with his third baby-mama. Why does this bug me? Probably because the UK papers have an interview with a woman named Rachel Bourlier who claims that SHE was secretly dating Jude when he fathered his latest child with Catherine Harding AND when he stepped out with Phillipa. Oh, Jude. You can see some photos of Rachel here.
Fans were surprised when Jude Law went public with his rumoured new girlfriend Phillipa Coan at the Hay Festival in May. But no one was more shocked that his alleged love interest, French journalist Rachel Bourlier, who was reportedly ‘utterly heartbroken’ when she read in the papers the Hollywood hunk was dating someone else.
The 43-year-old widow is said to have been secretly involved with Jude, 42, for months, with the pair’s friendship turning romantic around the time his child with his 23-year-old ex-fling Catherine Harding was born last October. According to The Sun on Sunday, Rachel said: ‘I offered him a quiet place to get away from it all – somewhere he could relax and have peace. We had an amazing physical connection together. Jude spoke to me in French and told me many beautiful things.’
The paper claims the pair first met when they were stuck in traffic near their homes in the upmarket area of Belsize Park, London in 2013. They got chatting through their car windows and Jude asked for her mobile number, allegedly striking up a text flirtation which went on for a year before they finally met up. While their busy schedules are said to have kept them apart, with Jude jetting all over the world for his acting career and Rachel regularly travelling to France for work, they apparently arranged to meet as often as possible.
The secret trysts reportedly took place at the French millionaire’s house while her 21-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son were out, or at a nearby hotel. So it came as a huge shock to Rachel when Jude was pictured with stunning blonde Phillipa, especially since the pair are reported to have been in constant communication up until then. Rachel allegedly phoned the Alfie actor to confront him after seeing the pictures, after which he sent her a text apologising for the way in which she found out.
[From The Daily Mail]
I mean? that?s terrible. Jude should be ashamed of himself. On the other hand, I do sort of feel like these women should know what they?re getting when they start up with Jude. I mean, if you met Jude and he hit on you (which he apparently does with most women), what would be your expectation going into that flirtation? Would you simply shut him down, knowing that he?s a walking petri dish of strange? Would you say ?hey, it?s still Jude Law? and hit it but make him double-bag it? Because those are the only two options in dealing with the Midnight Inseminator. You do not, however, pretend that you?re about to date Jude Law exclusively and get pissy when you discover that he?s impregnated another woman and/or he?s dating other people. Boyfriend material? That?s just? not who Jude is at this point.

Back in October of last year, we heard that Jude Law was expecting his FIFTH child by a third baby-mama. Jude has three kids with ex-wife Sadie Frost, plus a daughter, Sophia, with his one-time hookup Samantha Burke. And now the third baby-mama has given birth. This lady is Catherine Harding (stage name: Cat Cavelli) and she?s only 23 or 24 years old. They had a daughter, name unknown.
Jude Law is a father again. The actor and his ex Catherine Harding have welcomed a baby girl, his rep confirms to PEOPLE.
?I can confirm the arrival of Jude Law and Catherine Harding?s daughter,? Law?s rep said in a statement Tuesday. ?Both are delighted and continue to ask that their privacy and that of their child be respected.?
Law, 42, who has three children with ex-wife Sadie Frost (sons Rafferty, 18, and Rudy, 12, and daughter Iris, 14) and another daughter, Sophia, 5, with model Samantha Burke, confirmed that he was expecting a fifth child (his first with the singer-songwriter) in October.
?Whilst they are no longer in a relationship, they are both wholeheartedly committed to raising their child,? the actor?s rep said in a statement at the time.
[From People]
Well? congrats to them. I think this was probably handled better than the Samantha Burke situation, mostly because Burke seemed to think that Jude was going to drop everything to be with her and the baby while all he really wanted was a paternity test. It sounds like Jude and Catherine were legitimately dating for at least a few months. And I guess Jude either hates condoms or he?s just super-fertile and no birth control can hold back his swimmers. Jude?s paychecks must be going entirely to child support at this point. Yikes.
