According to Star Magazine, John Travolta and Kelly Preston are considering adopting a young boy. They?ve been going through immense grief since their son Jett passed away from a seizure in January, and have been walking around ?shell shocked? according to a source. Friends have suggested they adopt a child, and apparently the couple liked the idea enough to start the process.
“They’ve already set adoption plans in motion!” But there won’t be any midnight feedings or diaper duty for the Travoltas. Instead, they’re hoping to bring home a son just a few years younger than their 9-year-old daughter, Ella. In fact, it was Ella’s encouragement that convinced John, 55, and Kelly, 46, to add to their family, adds another source. “Ella said it would make Jett happy to see Mom and Dad smiling again. They really believe another child will benefit the whole family, and it will be a beautiful tribute to Jett.”
The devoted Scientologist couple turned to their church to help with the adoption and will likely work with the same agency that Tom Cruise and his ex-wife Nicole Kidman used when they adopted their children, Isabella and Connor, in the 1990s. “The church has access to adoptable Scientology children,” the source explains. “Members encouraged John and Kelly, telling them that bringing another child into their home is the right thing to do.
…They’ve been completely devastated by Jett’s death and “walk around shell-shocked,” says the source who adds that the tragedy has taken a terrible toll on John and Kelly. “Their grief is beyond words. John feels like his heart has been ripped out. He shuts himself in a room for hours, while Kelly grieves alone.”
[From Star, May 18, 2009, print ed.]
It?s a lovely idea to adopt a child. However it worries me that it may be a little too soon. It?s important to make sure they?re not hoping a new child can heal the pain from the loss of Jett. Certainly they?re not looking for a replacement, but perhaps on some level John and Kelly might be hoping a new addition to the family would give them something else to focus on, and be a cause for joy. And while that would be wonderful, that is an tremendous amount of responsibility to put on a child. It sounds like they still need some time to grieve. It hasn?t even been six months yet ? and I suspect they?re really still early on in the grief process. They say the loss of a child is something you never really get over, and I would guess they need to wait a while and learn how to live their lives without Jett before they think about adding a new family member.

It’s been three months since John Travolta and Kelly Preston lost their son Jett. Though the family has not made a public appearance since Jett’s death, caused by a massive seizure, those close to John, Kelly and their daughter Ella say they are coping well - thanks to their friends and their faith in the controversial religion of Scientology.
Just months after the sudden loss of their only son Jett, John Travolta and Kelly Preston are slowly letting the world back into their lives. Friends and family say the Travoltas are coping with the teen’s death as well as they can and leaning on their faith in Scientology to find peace.
“John is a strong man, but to lose a loved one, it’s the worst time in anyone’s life,” Olivia Newton-John, a longtime pal, told PEOPLE in its new cover story.
On Jan. 2, the Travoltas’ family vacation turned to tragedy when son Jett was found unconscious in bathtub at the family’s resort in the Bahamas. Jett eventually died of a seizure, despite several attempts to save him. Travolta tried to revive Jett using CPR after the teen was discovered unconscious. “He was doing mouth-to-mouth to resuscitate,” Travolta’s attorney Michael McDermott said.
Actress Leah Remini has watched the family tragedy unfold and says they are dealing with the tragedy very well. “How do you deal with the greatest tragedy in your life? I can tell you that they are handling it the best any parent could ever deal,” Remini said.
While they are still trying to stay out of the public eye, friends say the couple haven’t secluded themselves and are making time to see friends and stay strong for their daughter Ella Bleu.
“They aren’t secluding themselves or paralyzed,” a family friend said. “[Seeing them] was like old times. Nothing awkward and no topics to dance around. There were smiles.”
Despite controversy with their religion, friends say Scientology has helped the family find peace with their son’s death. “They’re relying on their faith to get them through this. Their faith is solid, and their family is solid,” said a friend.
[From People]
I certainly can’t condone the principles behind Scientology - it sounds like organized lunacy to me - but I can understand their grief, and their need to cling to some kind of comfort in this nightmarish time. When we lost our baby in January, we really needed to understand why. It didn’t make any sense to us. Maybe people who have religion in their lives can find comfort in leaving the “why” question in the hands of God, Jehovah, Xenu or whatever. For us, that wouldn’t have worked. But one thing I’ve learned is that everyone gets through their grief differently. It’s also a blessing to have other children in your life when something like this happens - they bounce back very quickly and remind you that life goes on, even after something terrible happens.

| Tom Cruise & John Travolta might remake Butch Cassidy | Added 15 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Tom Cruise is looking to team up with John Travolta to remake the classic 1960’s western Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Tom would play the part of Sundance, originally Robert Redford’s part, and John Travolta would take up Paul Newman’s role as Butch. The movie has been one of Tom’s favorites since he was a little boy and this would be a “labor of love” for him.
The surrogate father of Scientology plans to produce the remake through his United Artists Studio and is currently in talks with scriptwriters, a new report claims.
A source tells The Daily Mirror: ?Butch and Sundance is a labor of love for Tom. He was eight years old when he saw the original and it made an impression that has stayed with him all his life. He can?t wait to get to work.?
Tom hopes to revive the role of Sundance?played by Robert Redford in the original film?while 55-year-old John is expected to play Cassidy.
The 46-year-old star even got the blessing of Paul Newman - who originally played the role of Cassidy in the film about a pair of lovable bank robbers?before he died of lung cancer last September, tattles tell the tab.
?It has been a pet project of his that has been on the back-burner for years. But now he?s ready to go, and will most likely happily eschew the enormous salary that he normally commands.?
[From Pop Crunch]
No, Tom Cruise. Just no.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is one of my favorite movies of all time, but I don’t pay it respect by trying to film a remake; I have a poster of it on my wall and I own the DVD.
If this report is true, you can bet there are going to be some interesting stories from on set. With the two stars being devout Scientologists, you just know there are going to be some strange damands and goings-on. They’ll set up a makeshift church in the studio lot, or require everyone on set to get an E-meter reading.
Tom needs to rethink his career, and the first step would probably be to stop fancying himself as an action star, and find some roles where he plays the bad guy. He did it in Collateral with Jamie Foxx, and was pretty believable. What do you guys think - should Tom take more villain roles?

Former Bahamian senator Pleasant Bridgewater had a helping hand from police escorts as she was led into her hearing in Nassau, Bahamas earlier today (January 28).
The one-time lawmaker became the second suspect to plead not guilty in extortion charges stemming from an alleged plot to bilk $25 million from John Travolta and Kelly Preston following their son Jett’s recent passing.

TMZ claims to have the details of the document that a paramedic and Bahamian official allegedly tried to use to extort millions from John Travolta. If their facts are right, it doesn’t sound that damning to Travolta. The document is a “refusal to transport,” which concerns Travolta’s initial request to fly his 16 year-old son, Jett, to Florida to receive treatment after he suffered the seizure and fall in the Bahamas that resulted in his tragic death. As a concerned dad trying to make the best decision for his son, Travolta initially thought that he could fly him to Florida in the same amount of time, 45 minutes, that it would take to get him to the hospital in the Bahamas via ambulance.
We’ve now gotten to the bottom of the mystery document that was the basis for the alleged extortion plot in the John Travolta case.
Sources connected with the investigation tell us John Travolta told EMT workers he wanted to fly his son to Florida rather than drive by ambulance to the hospital….which was 45 minutes away.
There was a disagreement over which course would be better. John felt initially it might take the same amount of time to get his son to Florida where he might get better care.
The document at issue would have released emergency services from any liability if Travolta elected the Florida route.
In the end John realized the hospital was Jett’s best hope.
[From TMZ]
If this is true, you can’t blame Travolta for trying to get top care for his son. Out of concern for Jett he questioned whether he could get him to Florida to be seen by doctors he knew and trusted in the same amount of time, which seems like something any parent in that situation might do.
The ambulance driver who is implicated in the extortion plot, Tarino Lightbourne, has been arrested along with his lawyer. The lawyer, Sen. Pleasant Bridgewater, resigned her position in the Bahamian senate due to the allegations and is now out on $40,000 bail. She maintains her innocence and issued a statement suggesting that there was no extortion plot. “How these innocent actions can be so misconstrued, so perversely twisted to mean something other than it was, is a mystery.” Obie Wilchcombe, a friend of the Travoltas and a former tourism minister for the Bahamas, was also arrested and has been released.

Recent reports surfaced that two people are in custody for allegedly trying to extort money out of John Travolta and Kelly Preston. How exactly they were attempting to do it was a mystery. Until now.
According to The Daily Mail, a local politician from Grand Bahama where Jett Travolta died and a person thought to be connected with the ambulance service, demanded “millions of dollars” from John and Kelly in exchange for a picture they took of their son dying. If they didn’t follow through, they’d “sell the photo to the highest bidder.”
Out of all the things you could do, that’s one of the worst. Who goes around taking pictures of dead celebrity kids? Hot dead chicks with big tits I can maybe understand, but this is ridiculous. They should have also threatened to go to Jett’s funeral and rabbit punch him in the nads if they didn’t pay up. If you’re going to be doing something that awful, you might as well go all the way.
Update: TMZ says people tried to extort $20 million from Travolta and that a picture of a dying Jett may not be their bargaining chip although it does have something to do with the circumstances around his death. Us adds that there is only one person involved.

They’ve been going through an unimaginably tough time since the death of their son Jett, and now John Travolta and his family are dealing with the added stress of an extortion attempt.
According to a report, the police in the Bahamas have begun an investigation of a man who has attempted to extort money from the Travolta family.

John Travolta and Kelly Preston may be still dealing with the fact that their son, Jett, died from a “seizure disorder,” but that hasn’t stopped two individuals from launching an extortion scheme against them. A Bahamian newspaper reported on Monday that two people are being questioned, one believed to be a politician, about a plot to fleece the grieving couple. Travolta’s lawyers issued this statement:
?Regrettably in a time of such terrible grief, there are often a few individuals who attempt to make false claims in hopes of making millions of dollars,? their statement read, according to the Jacksonville Florida Times-Union. ?We will never let that happen.?
They probably took secret photos of Travolta doing things like prancing around in a speedo and having his male nanny apply sunscreen to his body at night. Well, guess what Mr. Criminal Masterminds. Everyone knows Travolta is gay. You fools!

John Travolta and Kelly Preston’s son Jett, 16, passed away in early January after suffering a seizure and hitting his head in the bathroom at his parents’ vacation home in the Bahamas. The family has only stated publicly that their son suffered from Kawasaki Syndrome, a chemically-induced childhood disorder that does not explain all of Jett’s symptoms. Jett was nonverbal and has been photographed walking on his tip toes. There was speculation that he was autistic, although that was never confirmed by the Travoltas.
Jett’s death was controversial due to the fact that his parents are members of the Church of Scientology, which does not believe in psychiatric illness and strongly discourages followers from using any form of psychiatric drugs. Fellow Scientologists maintain that physical illnesses, like autism, are permitted to be treated under their belief system. The Travoltas say they did treat Jett’s seizures with the drug Depakote, but that it simply stopped working for him after several years and he was taken off it under the guidance of a neurologist. What’s more is that Jett had a full time nanny, but the man wasn’t thought to be trained in childcare and works as a photographer.
It’s unlikely that we’ll ever know if Jett would have had the seizure that led to his death if he was on another drug or if someone with formal training was watching him. There’s been enough speculation about his death by people who aren’t affected by it. His parents are probably heartbroken wondering if there was anything they could have done differently to have saved their son.
Now there’s news that two people in the Bahamas, including a “politician” who may be involved in the investigation into Jett’s death, have tried to extort millions from the Travoltas. It’s unknown what kind of damning information they claim to have:
John Travolta lawyers fighting extortion demands made after the death of son Jett.
Bahamas based newspaper, TheTribune, reported police are investigating two co-conspirators “one believed to be a politician” in an ongoing investigation.
Travolta’s attorneys, Mike Ossi and Howard Butler, released a statement in Jacksonville, Florida after returning from the Bahamas: “Regrettably in a time of such terrible grief there are often a few individuals who attempt to make false claims in hopes of making millions of dollars.
“We will never let that happen.”
Ossi and Butler’s said they have “the utmost confidence in the Bahamian police and government” as it investigates the alleged extortion attempt.
The barristers then declined further comment.
John Travolta and Kelly Preston’s son Jett,15, died at their Grand Bahama vacation home. Official cause of death was listed as “seizure” after the teen was found unconscious in the Travolta family bathroom.
[From The National Enquirer's website]
Initial reports by TMZ, which were said to have been confirmed by Bahamian police, had Jett hitting his head in the bathroom the night before he was discovered. The family strongly denied these claims and said he suffered the accident in the morning not long before he was found.
The entire investigation is now compromised by this extortion attempt. If the police had any information that may cast doubt on the Travolta’s account of Jett’s death, it’s not like they’re going to be able to do much with the case now that it’s been tainted. Blackmail from an official will pretty much negate any findings that may implicate the Travoltas and cast doubt on the integrity of all the evidence. So now we have a grieving family that has to endure these claims, whatever they may be, and an investigation that’s shot.
