He?s fiercely dedicated to his craft, and Ryan Gosling ended up missing the premiere of his new flick ?Only God Forgives? at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival in favor of a new project.
The ?Lars and the Real Girl? guy apologized for his absence in a letter to Cannes director Thierry Fremaux, who was understandably disappointed at the news.
Gosling is currently in Detroit, Michigan filming his directorial debut ?How to Catch a Monster? with Christina Hendricks and Eva Mendes.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Winding Refn?s ?Only God Forgives? still premiered in the South of France today, and it?s getting great feedback.

A week ago, Page Six had an interesting story about Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes? relationship and their behavior towards each other at the post-premiere party for The Place Beyond the Pines. Apparently, an acquaintance of Eva?s yelled out ?hey baby!? and Ryan proceeded to freak out and get in the guy?s face. Page Six also claimed that Eva and Ryan barely spoke to each other at the party. At this point, now that they?ve been together for more than a year and a half, I?m just not sure if they?re bringing out the best in each other. I feel like Eva is the one pushing this thing to work and Ryan is probably a moody bastard. I don?t know, it?s just a general sense I get and I could totally be wrong. In last week?s Us Weekly (print edition), there was this bizarre story about Ryan and Eva too:
Eva Mendes recently said Ryan Gosling is ?your dream costar? he?s amazing.?
The longtime friends have now been dating for more than a year and are ?very much in love,? says an insider.
?They don?t shout from the rooftops, but they cherish what they have.?
The duo also don?t see the need to move in together, adds the insider. ?There?s no rush. What?s his is hers already, and likewise.?
Mendes has confided to a friend that her special relationship with Gosling?s mom, Donna, is her secret weapon. ?Eva says that?s what sealed the deal with Ryan? they?re going to make it.?
[From Us Weekly, print edition]
Sketchy? Or just typical tabloid nonsense? Eh. I?ve always thought Eva is leaking information to the tabloids, especially when it?s Us Weekly. And I have no doubt that Eva is in good with Ryan?s mother ? I think Ryan?s mom adores Eva. I think Eva played that part beautifully, especially for a mama?s boy like Ryan. But the stuff about how they don?t really live together? You know what that reminded me of? Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel! Justin kept his LA ?bachelor pad? until they were married (and he still might have it, come to think about it) and yes, he stayed at Jessica Biel?s place a lot, but he still got to do his dude things (like screw around) in his own space. Some guys are like that ? they need/want their own cave. And it seems like Eva is making excuses for it.

| Ryan Gosling 'flipped out?, nearly fought some dude who called Eva Mendes 'baby' | Added 11 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Do you get offended when somebody calls you ?baby?? What if it?s someone you sort of know, like someone you?ve worked with, and they?re greeting you at a party? I do think it?s the context. Like, if someone called me ?baby? in a professional setting, I?d be like ?Pig. Douche.? But at a party? I?d probably respond, ?Hey, dude.? Well, this is the situation for Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, at least according to Page Six. According to their sources, at last week?s premiere party for The Place Beyond the Pines, some dude was like ?hey baby? to Eva and Ryan freaked out. How much would you love it if Ryan turned to the guy and was all, ?Her first name ain?t Baby. It?s Eva. Ms. Mendes is you?re NASTY.? Ah, I love that song.
Don?t mess with Ryan Gosling?s girlfriend, Eva Mendes. We?re told the pair, in town for the premiere of their new movie, ?The Place Beyond the Pines,? were at the Bowery Hotel Friday when a fashion photographer who had recently shot Mendes saw her and shouted, ?Hey, baby!?
?Ryan completely flipped out, and it got heated,? says an eyewitness. ?Ryan got in the guy?s face and said, ?Who are you calling baby?? Eva had to jump in and calm everyone down before it came to fisticuffs. Ryan then made nice and shook the guy?s hand.?
The couple, who quietly have been dating since September, worked to keep their privacy intact the night before during a Svedka-sponsored party for the flick, also at the hotel. Gosling brought his mother as his date and arrived and left separately from Mendes, says a source, with the actress turning up at the bash 45 minutes later than the rest of the cast.
?I didn?t see Eva and Ryan interact once,? says the spy. ?They stayed at opposite ends of the room from one another.? Gosling?s rep didn?t get back to us.
[From Page Six]
Huh. How should we interpret this? I get a little bit gleeful at the idea that Ryan and Eva might be over, but the fact that Ryan?s short fuse (?) was activated when some dude called Eva ?baby? doesn?t bode well for the idea that he?s over it. It also doesn’t bode well in general. He’s starting to seem… tightly wound. Which is gross. Another interpretation: it sounds like they?re both sort of over it? And maybe Ryan is possessive in all contexts? But God knows, really. The fact that they barely talked to each other through the night doesn?t mean much. They?re so weird.

Stopping to fill up his tank, Ryan Gosling was out in Studio City, CA this afternoon (March 22).
The hunky ?Notebook? actor showed that he was not in the mood for pictures as he waved a fist towards the awaiting paparazzi before finishing up his errand.

| Ryan Gosling Taking a Break From Acting | Added 11 years ago | Source: The Blemish |

Terrible news guys. After he’s done promoting all the movies he’s filmed, Ryan Gosling may take a break from acting. It’s not the retirement he alluded to a couple years ago but it might be close.
“I’ve been doing it too much,” he says of acting. “I’ve lost perspective on what I’m doing. I think it’s good for me to take a break and reassess why I’m doing it and how I’m doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does.”
“The more opportunities I’m given, the more I learn about how easy it is to (expletive) it up. You fight for freedom and then you get it, and then you have enough rope to hang yourself. It’s like trying to exercise some restraint because I do have so much freedom.” AP
Ryan Gosling is pretty much one of the few all around heartthrobs of this generation. Sure you have Robert Pattinson but he only appeals to the vampire-loving demographic. Gosling’s appeal is universal. Even men have a Trapper Keeper full of “<3 Ryan Gosling” scribbled in them.
So the question now becomes, “what’ll Ryan Gosling do if he takes an acting sabbatical?” My guess is go back tostopping street fights with his soothing voice or saving people from getting hit by cars. Like a superhero? Yes, like a superhero.

Ryan Gosling just started promoting A Place Beyond the Pines, and I just wanted to discuss this HuffPo interview which I found very interesting. I go back and forth on Gosling ? sometimes I find him too cute by half, and I don?t really get hot for ?cute?. I get hot for dirty MEN. But Gosling is pretty, and he?s very talented (if he?s given the right material) and I can overlook the Disneyland thing sometimes. Basically, I?m giving him a break? today. Tomorrow, he might be on My List. I actually learned several pieces of new information (new for me) from this HuffPo piece. I heard the rumors that he grew up Mormon, but I didn?t know his divorced parents were ?working class Mormons? and that he grew up entirely in Ontario. I also didn?t know his mother homeschooled him! And he calls himself a ?mama?s boy? which I already knew without him having to tell me. Here?s more:
He?s taking a break from acting: “I’ve been doing it too much,” he says of acting. “I’ve lost perspective on what I’m doing. I think it’s good for me to take a break and reassess why I’m doing it and how I’m doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does.”
His character in A Place Beyond the Pines: “One thing that kind of handed me the key to the character was that I totally overdid it with the tattoos,” says Gosling, who has a teardrop inked beneath his left eye in the film. “I said to Derek, `I got to lose this face tattoo. It’s the worst. It’s so distracting and it’s going to ruin everything.’ And he said, `Well, I’m sure that’s how people with face tattoos feel. So now you have to pay the consequences of your actions.’ So I had to do the whole film with it and now see it on posters. It gave me a sense of shame that I feel was inherent to the character.”
Character acting versus lead acting: “There’s a lot of pressure to be the lead of a film,” he says. “I have done it. It’s not my favorite way to work.”
On The Notebook: “By virtue of being in a movie like that, it just changes people’s perception of you,” he says. “But it doesn’t make it true.”
His acting method: “I don’t know what I’m doing,” he says. “I haven’t quite figured out what the balance is between being able to be lost in it ? or try to, anyway ? and then step outside of it.”
Dating costars: “Working with someone is the best way to get to know someone, especially if it’s a creative endeavor,” says Gosling. “When you work creatively with somebody, it’s very telling and you sort of fast-track with everyone.”
He doesn?t want to be a lead actor: “The more opportunities I’m given, the more I learn about how easy it is to (expletive) it up,” he says. “You fight for freedom and then you get it, and then you have enough rope to hang yourself. It’s like trying to exercise some restraint because I do have so much freedom.”
[From HuffPo]
I agree with him that audiences need a break from him, and it makes me think more of him that he?s self-aware (or audience-aware) enough to acknowledge it. I imagine there are a lot of fancy Hollywood types on his payroll trying to convince him to strike while the iron is hot and that he should be working back-to-back. I like an actor who goes away for a year or two and then comes back for some kind of amazing passion project. I?m also surprised that Ryan is talking so openly about how he doesn?t like lead-actor work. Considering he?s one of the few young actors (young = under 40, for dudes) who is consistently offered lead roles, he must really have to LOOK for character work at this point. He must drive his management team crazy.

Ryan Gosling is adored by women everywhere. Now I know why. It’s because he’s a middle-aged spinster trapped in a 32-year-old’s body. He tells GQ that his perfect day would just be him knitting, possibly taking care of his 20 cats.“I did this scene in ?Lars and the Real Girl? where I was in a room full of old ladies who were knitting, and it was an all-day scene, so they showed me how. It was one of the most relaxing days of my life.??If I had to design my perfect day, that would be it,? he said. ?And you get something out of it at the end. You get a nice present. For someone who wants an oddly shaped, off-putting scarf.?Having every demographic fawning over him is all part of his diabolical plan to make love to everyone in the entire world. With just his eyes.

If you thought Ryan Gosling had already reached the zenith of desirability among women aged 0 – 110, think again. Not only is he soft spoken, modest, able to stop street fights with just the sound of his voice and a dog lover but he also loves his mother. Gosling took his mom to theGangster Squadpremiere last night in Hollywood dressed in Eva Mendes inspired clothing.I swear to god. If Ryan Gosling keeps ruining the curve for the rest of us, I’m going to punch him in his face. Right after I cream my pants.

| Ryan Gosling & Eva Mendes are still together, spent the weekend in NYC | Added 12 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are STILL together. It?s been more than a year. Can you believe it? I didn?t think it would last this long. So I guess I have to admit that I was wrong? they?re making it work. Eva and Ryan were in New York over the weekend, and they even posed (?) for a nice candid photo-op on the street ? unfortunately, we don?t have those pics. You can see them here. Page Six says that Ryan and Eva were also spotted catching a Broadway show!
Ryan Gosling and girlfriend Eva Mendes took in Jessica Chastain?s play ?The Heiress? at Broadway?s Walter Kerr Theatre over Thanksgiving weekend.
The couple came in just before the curtain went up at a matinee performance, and spies said Gosling tried to remain incognito with his brown hoodie up and a jean jacket.
But one witness said, ?He was trying to not be recognized, but he looked so out of place that everyone knew who he was! The grannies next to us were gushing over him.?
[From Page Six]
One, of course the grannies love The Gosling! I think many of Gosling?s Hey Girls are probably menopausal. Two, of course everyone recognized The Gosling! That seems to always happen to him ? he seems to consistently try to go incognito and he?s consistently ?discovered? by his roving band of Hey Girls. I?m not sure if that?s on him or if it?s really not his fault at all.
So? Ryan and Eva are still together. If they?re together through the holidays and into the new year, what are the chances of an engagement, a marriage and/or a baby? I?d say? it could totally happen.

Did you know that Ryan Gosling owns his own restaurant (called Tagine) in Beverly Hills? I was not aware of this fact, but I’m not really one of the “hey girls” even though I do consider Gosling to be one of the most versatile and talented actors of his generation. His work is generally pretty good, but he seems rather pretentious as a person. Those who do love him have been known to travel far and wide to drop a signficant chunk of change at his restaurant in the hopes that he might show up on the scene.
Yet many hopeful Tagine diners have subsequently taken to food review sites like Yelp to proclaim, “Eh that’s alright,” while lamenting the price tag that arrives with a celebrity owner who never bothers to show up and check on his investment. While it’s true that Gosling has a “real” job and can’t possibly spend all of his time hanging out at his place, his staff readily hands out the “Ryan Gosling might come” line when booking reservations. It does seems like a slightly insincere practice, right? Here’s the details from disgruntled “hey girls” via the Toronto Sun:
Although a little Ryan Gosling rolled up in a spicy pita bread would surely taste yummy, the Canadian actor is reportedly slipping off the menu at the Beverly Hills restaurant he co-owns called Tagine. The 32-year-old actor seems to have basically vanished from the Moroccan restaurant he’s been listed as co-owner of since about 2008 and apparently hasn’t been there in months. Gosling bought the eatery — and even renovated it by hand — during the middle an existential crisis period between 2007 and 2010 in which he stopped acting.
According to Gosling, he liked chilling in the smoky, exotic atmosphere and eating the delicious dishes created by chef Abdessamad “Ben” Benameur so much, he became an investor. But perhaps like his band, Dead Man’s Bones, the restaurant was just a passing fancy.
The reported absence of Gosling is, of course, is a big disappointment to fans who pay about $100 per person (with wine) to dine at Tagine. “It’s still always all over the Internet that Ryan Gosling is here since he owns it, so we came and thought we’d get to see him,” reports Mary Giaimo, a Vancouver resident who was visiting the city with her daughter and ate at Tagine in hopes of spotting the heartthrob. “But we got to talking with the waiter and he told us Ryan hasn’t been around in months.”
On Yelp, those who have tried Tagine inevitably invoke “Ryan” as the reason they tried it in the first place. Wrote reviewer Ki D: “Ryan knows how to do many things well …. his apparent qualities brought me here in curiosity of experiencing his point of view in dining. Sadly, it turned out to be a disappointment.”
Let’s remember that Gosling did not become a huge global sensation until his 2010-2011 period when he starred in Blue Valentine; All Good Things; Crazy, Stupid, Love; Drive and Ides of March. He gave up acting in 2007, partly because he was fired from the set of The Lovely Bones for being 60 pounds overweight.
It’s fortunate for moviegoers that Gosling got his acting mojo back. Since 2010, he’s been an acting machine, traveling the world, filming hit movie after hit movie. Not so lucky for visitors to Tagine, who may be enticed by the restaurant’s website links that feature articles such as “Ryan Gosling’s Restaurant Shines in the Spotlight.”
QMI called Tagine this week to ask if the Notebook star — at this minute filming yet another flick thousands of kilometers away in Austin, Texas with co-stars Rooney Mara and Michael Fassbender — might be around this weekend if we made a reservation.
Said the man taking reservations, “Ryan is the owner of the restaurant, so he could come by any time. I can seat you at 9:00. Ryan Gosling might come. But he might not. We never know.”
[From Toronto Sun]
For $100 per head, something tells me that Ryan would do well to stop by about once per month to keep things hopping, or this restaurant could go the way of most eateries (the figures are murky, but it’s certain that somewhere between 60-90% of dine-in restaurants close their doors within a few years of opening). Clearly, Ryan’s overpriced hole-in-the-wall has lasted longer than average, but if his “hey girls” continue to feel disgruntled, he can forget their support.
