Ryan Gosling is currently promoting The Big Short, the true story of how a handful of dudes figured out that the American housing market was going to crash and burn in 2008. Gosling has not been front and center during the promotion, although? no one has. Gosling hasn?t gotten any magazine covers, but neither has Brad Pitt (the producer/star) or Christian Bale or Steve Carrel. This was supposed to be an Oscar-bait movie, but it really doesn?t feel like anyone is pushing it hard. Which is possibly why Gosling is finally giving up some details about what life is like with Eva Mendes and their daughter Esmeralda.
Ryan Gosling is a proud father, partner and, of course, Canuck. ?I love being Canadian,? he tells us, adding, ?I think growing up in Canada gives you a world perspective that I certainly enjoy.?
The 35-year-old actor recently sat down with Hello! for an exclusive chat about celebrating the holidays with longtime love Eva Mendes and their adorable one-year-old daughter, Esmeralda.
?This will be our first Christmas where [Esmeralda is] sort of taking it all in, so that?s exciting,? gushed the handsome actor, who welcomed his daughter in September 2014. One thing the Notebook star isn?t as excited about is his mother?s choice in holiday tunes. ?She?s obsessed with the Hanson Christmas album! No disrespect to Hanson, they?re very talented kids, but I think I?ve heard that record enough. I?m sure it will be on a loop this Christmas as well.?
Fatherhood has come easy for Ryan, who says it’s ?not rocket science.? And as much love and devotion as he has for his baby girl, the star is just as besotted with her mom, Eva. ?I know that I?m with the person I?m supposed to be with,? he says, adding that the only quality he looks for in a woman is “that she?s Eva Mendes. There?s nothing else I?m looking for.?

Just before Christmas, The Daily Mail & OK! Magazine had sources claiming that Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling were close to being over. Many of you thought it sounded like Eva had some postpartum depression, and some people thought the rumors of a breakup made total sense because? well, Ryan and Eva have always been such a strange couple. Well, here?s some happy news, I guess: Ryan and Eva spent Christmas together, with their daughter Esmeralda, plus their extended families. Even though Eva and Ryan are SUPER PRIVATE, sources totally snitched to E! News:
Despite recent reports to the contrary, Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are doing just fine. A source close to the good-looking duo tells E! News that they “think the tabloid reports about trouble are ridiculous” and that “they just roll their eyes, they honestly don’t care.”
In fact, the new parents to baby Esmeralda spent “a wonderful Christmas together with both her family and his.”
An insider also shares that the actors are content with the dynamic of their new family of three, and aren’t in any rush to tie the knot in the near future.
“Neither felt the need to get married, it’s just not a huge priority for either of them. They know what they have.”
So how exactly did the rumors about the two having trouble in paradise get started? Well, for one thing, Gosling had been filming nonstop in Atlanta in early December, and his leading lady has yet to be seen on set visiting. But there’s a simple explanation for all that, our source explains.
“Ryan and Eva are super-super-private. The last thing they’d do is bring a baby, who’s barely 3 months old, to a film set teeming with paparazzi. Ryan specifically wanted it like this?with paps following him in Atlanta, they’re mostly leaving Eva and the baby alone.
In the meantime, Eva texted pictures and videos of her and the baby to him, “which he loves.”
Back in L.A., while Gosling was hard at work on his upcoming film project, mother and daughter were still adjusting to home life.
“The baby is still not sleeping through the night yet so [Eva's] tired. She’s also still getting used to breastfeeding?it’s not easy. But she’s happily in nesting mode.”

It sounds like Eva is still adjusting and she wants to just spend some time bonding with the baby. Which is totally normal and fine, although I think it?s a little bit weird that Ryan was scheduled to shoot a movie just weeks after his baby was born. Do you buy the ?super-super-private? explanation? I have mixed feelings about that. Yes, Eva and Ryan really did manage to be super-private about the pregnancy. But there were two years of weird photo-ops by Eva before the pregnancy. For a while there, she was getting pap?d two or three times a week, always in cute outfits, so thirsty for us to acknowledge her relationship with Ryan. So? yeah. Mixed feelings about the ?privacy? argument.
PS… here’s another bad piece of news for all of you Gosling-loonies: his directorial debut, Lost River, isn’t even going to get a theatrical release. It’s going straight-to-DVD after it was laughed out of Cannes in May. Just as well. It sounded horrible and pretentious.

OK Magazine says Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are pretty much over. I know what you?re thinking: ?OK Magazine? RLY?? But hear me out! OK Magazine was actually the first weekly to confirm Eva?s pregnancy over the summer. Star, Us Weekly and People Magazine actually raced to get to second place on that particular piece of reporting. Which says to me that OK Magazine might actually have a source close to Eva or Ryan. I know that makes no sense, but weirder things have happened. Anyway, OK Mag?s sources say that three months after giving birth to Esmeralda, Eva doesn?t even want to be around Ryan anymore.
They welcomed their daughter Esmeralda Amada three months ago but it seems the pressure of being new parents may be too much for Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes. OK! Magazine reported Monday the couple have been living separate lives recently. The 40-year-old actress has been struggling at home in Los Angeles with the baby while her 34-year-old actor boyfriend has been filming The Nice Guys for extended periods in Georgia, it was claimed.
The publication was first to report that the brunette was expecting a child with her Beyond The Pines co-star. Neither of their reps had any comment when contacted by MailOnline.
A source told the publication: ‘It’s more than just run-of-the-mill stress that comes with having a newborn. They’re barely talking.’ The source added, ‘Eva has pushed him away.’
Eva reportedly refused to fly to Atlanta with their young daughter to spend time with Ryan. An insider told OK!, ‘So instead of coming home every night to them, he’s jetting back and forth just so he can see his daughter.’
The couple, who started dating in 2011 after filming A Place Beyond The Pines together, welcomed baby Esmeralda on September 12. And the actress has made no secret of how fatigued she has been with her newborn, revealing to Ellen DeGeneres, ‘I’m so incredibly tired.’
The couple kept a very low profile during the pregnancy and haven’t been pictured out together in public for over a year. Eva has only been seen out and about once since the birth – in November – and there are claims that Ryan is worried she is becoming a recluse.
An insider told OK!: ‘The last time Ryan was in LA, he told her that she and Esmeralda needed to get outside for some fresh air, but she just wouldn’t listen.’
And if the couple do decide to part ways, it’s claimed that Eva would fight for full custody, with an insider saying, ‘Eva has been the primary, hands-on parent with Ryan away working so much, so she believes full custody is warranted.’

I remember this Radar story from when Eva was still pregnant ? a source insisted that the pregnancy was unplanned, and that Ryan and Eva had actually been going through a breakup and makeup cycle when she got pregnant and Ryan was ?surprised.? The source also insisted that Eva desperately wanted to marry Ryan and he wasn?t into it. I don?t really know what to believe, but I?ve always thought they were a weird, mismatched couple and it wouldn?t surprise me if the pregnancy was a ?surprise? during a breakup, and it also wouldn?t surprise me if SURPRISE, a baby isn?t enough to hold Ryan and Eva together forever. I tend to think the reaction to Chris Hemsworth being named the 2014 Sexiest Man Alive was a resounding ?meh.? People weren?t angry about the choice, people acknowledge that he?s a good-looking guy with a fantastic Thor-body. But are there scores of women out there who are, like, all about Hemsworth and only Hemsworth? Not really. But, as I said, at least people weren?t angry. Everyone was truly ANGRY when Bradley Cooper was named the SMA back in 2011. People actually protested the choice of B-Coop, mainly (I suppose) because 2011 was seen as ?Ryan Gosling?s year,? like he was the one in the news and it was the height of the Hey-Girl-dom. I guess the Gosloonies always thought that People Magazine snubbed him outright. But The Wrap?s sources now say that Gosling got the approach about SMA a few times and he turned them down every time:

We understand the bid to be taken seriously, as Gosling’s silent and brooding acting style earns him art house cred. But there’s no ignoring he’s the Internet’s collective boyfriend: street fight referee, feminist icon and refuser of cereal all rolled into one. Yes, the superlative is superficial. Accepting usually entails an obligatory shirtless or flexing photo shoot, sidebars about ab routines and a giddy Q&A. But the exposure is priceless and the reign a whole 12 months.
Also, since it’s 1985 launch, ?Sexiest Man? has some alumni most people would deem substantial actors: George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, Bradley Cooper and Tom Cruise to name a few. Gosling devotees shouldn’t abandon hope just yet. A shift in his perspective might sway him to eventually grace the cover.
The recent birth of his daughter Esemeralda may inspire some adventure. It’s a raging cliche in the realm of celeb maternity that stars don’t fully appreciate their bodies until giving birth. Ryan didn’t do the pushing (shout out Eva Mendes!) but maybe some of that empowerment will rub off.

I also believe he?s shut it down because he believes he?s too artistic, that one shouldn?t have to hustle for one?s art. Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes welcomed their first child, a baby girl, back in September. Since then, we haven?t heard much about or from them. ?Sources? kept going on and on about Ryan crying in the delivery room and how Eva is super-happy with motherhood, but no one gave much time to those stories because A) the quotes were mostly generalizations about how ALL parents feel and B) because none of the ?sources? had any info about the baby name. Well, finally we know the girl?s name. And we know because TMZ got their hands on the birth certificate. The baby?s name is? Esmeralda Amada Gosling.
Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes’ baby name may have been inspired by one of the characters she played in a Mark Wahlberg movie. Gosling and Mendes named their daughter Esmeralda Amada … according to the baby’s birth certificate, obtained by TMZ.
Amada was the name of Eva’s character in “We Own the Night” — and Esmeralda, well … maybe she’s a big fan of the ’96 Disney flick “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”

Esmeralda sounds like a mouthful for a baby, which is why Bedhead & I think that they?re probably calling her Esme. Esme is hipster-friendly, with literary flair because of JD Salinger?s ?For Esm?with Love and Squalor? short story. The problem with calling her Esme is that it?s also a Twilight reference. They could always call her Essie!! I?m not a big fan of Amada, mostly because I keep reading it as ?armada? and who wants to think of boats when they?re looking at a baby?!

Some of you accuse of me of putting too much stock in tabloid reporting. I am gullible about gossip sometimes, in that I usually believe the worst about people and, obviously, I am the target market for tabloids. So it?s a rarity for me to say that I really think all of the tabloids are full of it about Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes at this point. Eva was pregnant for MONTHS without anyone revealing the secret. We know that Eva and Ryan welcomed a daughter, I guess, but no one has come forward and revealed the name. How is it possible that a ?source? is close enough to Ryan and Eva to describe how they cried when their daughter was born, and yet that source won?t tell us the baby?s name?
It’s official: the world just became a little more beautiful…because Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling have welcomed a baby girl! The 40-year-old actress gave birth to the couple’s first child together on Friday in Los Angeles, E! News has confirmed. The notoriously private pair, who never officially confirmed that they were expecting, have yet to publicly share the baby news and it’s unlikely that they will formally announce the birth.
But that doesn’t mean that the lovebirds, who first began dating back in September 2011, haven’t been enjoying their baby bliss in private!
“Eva is so happy she’s a mom, their baby girl is perfect!” a source tells E! News of the proud parents’ bundle of joy. “They are at home now with the baby and Eva is feeling great she says. She’s so good with kids and has been wanting this a really long time. When she found out she was having a girl, she was freaking out. She kind of wanted a girl deep down, but of course just wants a happy and healthy baby! Ryan is saying he is going to be overpowered with girls in the house and is gonna have to be extra manly around the house!”
While the pair has yet to reveal the name of their little one, Mendes continues to tell family and friends “how in love she is” with her darling daughter. “Everyone is saying the baby looks like Eva and has her features,” the source said of the wee one, who we can only presume is one gorgeous little girl.
The pair is clearly over the moon when it comes to the newest edition to their family and the duo even shed a few tears of joy upon first setting sights on their bundle of joy.
“It was very emotional for Eva and Ryan,” the insider said of their daughter’s birth. “They were both in tears when they saw their daughter for the first time!”

Back in July, we heard that Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling were expecting their first child. The reports were weird, mostly because Eva has been keeping a very low profile for much of this year, so much so that many outlets claimed that Eva and Ryan were already done. By the time the pregnancy was sort-of confirmed, Eva was allegedly seven months along. Well… it looks like that was about right. She and Ryan have welcomed a baby girl.
Hey girl, indeed! Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling welcomed a baby girl on Friday, Sept. 12, multiple sources confirm exclusively to Us Weekly.
Us confirmed in July that Mendes, 40, and Gosling, 33, were expecting a baby together. At the time, rumors swirled that the Urban Legends actress was already seven months along.
Earlier this year, Mendes laughed off pregnancy rumors during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “It’s so ridiculous,” she said back in February. “It all started because I didn’t want to go through the scanners at the airport. You know those X-ray scanners, which are really creepy? They basically see you naked, right? And not only that, but there’s a radiation aspect to it, so I always opt out.”
Mendes kept a low profile during her pregnancy, making her last red carpet appearance at a Violet Grey dinner honoring the late Elizabeth Taylor in L.A. on Feb. 26. After news broke, she went to considerable lengths to cover up her baby bump with several pieces of clothing and a large bag while leaving a parking structure in L.A. on June 10. Gosling, meanwhile, quietly stepped out to pump his own gas in L.A. on Aug. 5.
Gosling doted on Mendes as the couple prepared for their newborn’s arrival. “Ryan goes out and gets the groceries. [Eva's] been wanting pasta, and he’s cooking her meals,” a source previously told Us. “Ryan has already stepped into the role of caring father-to-be.”

I sometimes worry that I?m too unemotional. As I keep saying, there is something ?literally? fishy about Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes and their undercover pregnancy. I just keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, for one piece of information to be released which will be just the gossip I need to make sense out of all of this. Thus far, the tabloids have claimed that Ryan and Eva are both thrilled, that Eva is the one who wants an undercover pregnancy and Ryan is the one ensuring her privacy. So what am I missing? Well, this Radar report might have some interesting details (if you believe Radar).
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling?s baby news stunned the world ? and the couple themselves! RadarOnline.com has learned that Mendes? pregnancy was totally unplanned, and blindsided Gosling because their relationship had hit a rough patch just before Mendes shared the news.
When Mendes, 40, discovered she was pregnant, ?It was completely unplanned,? an insider told Radar. ?Ryan was surprised, especially because they had broken up early last year, only to get back together.?
The stars first hooked up filming The Place Beyond the Pines three years ago, and have been through their shares of highs and lows since. Said the source of their rocky relationship, ?Their disagreements always come back to a central issue: Eva wants to marry Ryan, but so far, he has resisted.?
Now, however, pregnant Mendes has moved in with Gosling at his bachelor pad, according to the source. ?The house is quite small, and only has two bedrooms,? the source revealed. ?Eva has been looking for a bigger house to live in with Ryan once the baby is born.?
As for Ryan, the insider told Radar that despite the element of surprise, ?Ryan is excited to be a father, and will be very protective.?
That doesn?t mean it?s been smooth sailing lately, however.
In recent days, the source said, ?Eva has been upset with Ryan over his reaction to comments Nick [Cassavetes, director of The Notebook], publicly made about Ryan feuding on set with Rachel McAdams.?
After the comments, the source said, ?Ryan called Nick and voiced his displeasure about him talking about his ex-girlfriend. Ryan is very protective of his privacy, and of the people around him. Rachel shouldn?t have to be asked about it as she is out promoting a new movie.?

I?ll buy that the pregnancy was unplanned. But I don?t buy that Eva dreams of being a bride and Ryan was the dude who didn?t want to put a ring on it. I just don?t think that?s their dynamic. If anything, Ryan seems more old-fashioned about marriage and babies, and my guess is that he?d like to marry Eva, maybe even before she gives birth. But why would she? She got what she wanted ? Now that OK! Magazine broke the story (I still can?t believe that happened) of Eva Mendes? pregnancy, all of the other magazines are climbing aboard the Speculation Train. First stop for the Speculation Train? Shotgun Marriage Junction. A ?close pal of Eva?s? told Life & Style that Eva definitely wants to marry Ryan but it?s all very ?eventually.? The source says: ?I think they will wed after the baby is born. Eva would love to eventually marry Ryan and be a family with their new baby.? Just FYI, “source”: they?re already a family.
