Ashton Kutcher was asked to give a talk at Fortune Magazine’s Brainstorm Tech Con in Pasadena all about Twitter. However it quickly devolved into Ashton discussing all the reasons he?s the most powerful and amazing creature alive. Of course all that power is best illustrated by his epic twittering. He shuts down websites with a few mere touches of computer keys! He has millions of followers who hang on his every word, eager for new pearls of wisdom from their sage leader! He has the most influence of anyone in social media ? ever! Or close.
“I shut down a website everyday because I send too much traffic there from my Twitter feed.” The entrepreneur/entertainer told the crowd and his onstage interviewer. When asked why he tweets Kutcher admitted that it’s fun. He keeps in touch with his audience and it’s a platform to syndicate content. “I started Twitter as a communication device to stay in touch with fans.”
He’s not an accidental tourist of tech. He seems to know exactly what he’s doing and why it has value. “Do you know how much studios pay to get in touch with an actors audience?!” asked Kutcher. “I do all that with a touch of a button.” Serwer wondered about the fact that he has more followers than CNN on Twitter. Kutcher replied, ?I?m shocked that an individual could have as much influence [in social media] than a media conglomerate.”
He said his new film The Killers needed a joke for a scene so he got on Twitter and asked his fans for suggestions. And he got them. Tons. “I don’t know if it will end up in the final cut.” No word on if the fan would get a credit or payment.
Why does Twitter work, asked Serwer. “It’s the ability to create viral syndication quickly,” responded Kutcher.
Which all leads back to advertising and the ability to sell whatever product to a growing audience who has grown immune to the old models. “Banner ads are like billboards,” said Kutcher. Meaning people are so used to them they no longer see them. He stated that entertainment and advertising “they are going to have to marry each other in a deeper way.”
[From Media Bistro]
This whole ego stroking interview makes it sound like Ashton?s suffering from some serious delusions of grandeur. I practically expect him to go into the corner, wrap his arms around his back and start making out with himself, fifth grade humor style. It?s just so unnecessary and unattractive. Twitter may be a joke to some of us and the center of other people?s lives. That?s fair. It definitely has its uses and is important to a lot of people, and Ashton?s trying to explain its utility in marketing. But he just comes off as such a douche since he unnecessarily spends so much time bragging about his epic might.
Next week, expect to possibly learn how Ashton controls the weather all while stopping an out of control bus from running over some old people on walkers. And shamed CNN in the process.

| Do Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore want to save Mischa Barton w/ Kabbalah? | Added 15 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

After Mischa Barton’s breakdown there was talk that her upcoming series, CW’s The Beautiful Life, was quietly training another actress to replace her as the lead. In a role that may hit too close to home, Mischa is set to play a down and out drug-addicted model struggling to hang on to her waning career. The series’ producer, Ashton Kutcher, dismisses rumors that Mischa is off the show and says Barton will soon be in NY to start shooting and that she’s “doing great.”
Ashton Kutcher says Mischa Barton is heading to New York to join the cast of her new show, ?The Beautiful Life,? according to Reuters.
Ashton, the producer behind The CW show, commented on the actress at a technology conference in Pasadena where he discussed his involvement with Twitter.
?I can tell you right now Mischa Barton is doing great,? Ashton reportedly said.
In a previous statement to Access Hollywood, the star?s rep said Mischa was ?improving each day? following her hospitalization last week.
Access previously broke the news that the former ?The O.C.? star had been taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 15, after a source said she was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold (also known as a 5150) by authorities.
Production on the show, on which Mischa plays a model attempting a comeback, was pushed back to the end of the month ?due to set construction issues,? a CW rep told Access last week.
The show is set to begin shooting on July 31.
[From Access Hollywood, source has automatic music]
The National Enquirer claims this week that Ashton and his wife, Demi Moore, are trying to help Mischa by introducing her to the mystical Jewish-type cult they follow, Kabbalah. At least it’s not Scientology, but it would be a lot cheaper and probably more helpful for Mischa to get counseling and go to rehab:
Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher… want to spearhead the recovery of the deeply troubled actress, who landed in a Los Angeles psychiatric unit after a bizarre meltdown.
“Demi and Ashton both feel Mischa has an incredible career ahead of her if she can free herself from her demons of poor self-esteem and substance abuse,” said a source.
The couple believes the teachings of Kabbalah - a type of Jewish mysticism - can help Mischa, the source said, adding that both Demi and Ashton generously reached out to Mischa’s family to offer their assistance.
Ashton feels particularly responsible for Mischa because he’s overseeing the production of her new series, “The Beautiful Life,” in which she plays an aging model. He personally selected her for the role.
[From The National Enquirer, print edition, August 3, 2009]
People need to find their own route to recovery and happiness, and sinking a lot of money and faith into various treatments and philosophies only helps those who believe in it. You’re better off seeing a therapist or doctor that works for you and buying a bunch of self help books, in my opinion. That’s my path, though, and other people get better mileage out of religion. I can’t see Mischa becoming a Kabbalah devotee, but a lot of celebrities do it and their involvement doesn’t make sense to me either.
In less cultastic news, Demi tweeted photos over the weekend of Ashton de-skunking their dog. She wrote that they used a combination of peroxide and baking soda and were going to try tomato juice next and that the “whole house stinks!”

| Madonna tries to convince Demi Ashton to adopt from Malawi | Added 15 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Ever since Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher got together, there have been rumors about pregnancies and adoptions. Personally, I think Demi and Aston would like to have a child together, but it?s not their top priority. Ashton seems more than happy being a step-dad to Demi and Bruce Willis?s three daughters, and he and Demi seem to have a stronger marriage than most Hollywood couples. But In Touch Weekly is trying to reignite those old adoptions rumors anew - this time with a dash of Madonna! Madonna and Demi are pretty tight - I think Demi got Madonna into Kabbalah, or vice versa, and they?ve worked together on a couple of projects. They seem to be professional friends - not gossipy BFFs, but they show up to support each other?s projects.
Anyway, In Touch is claiming that Madonna is trying to convince Demi and Ashton to adopt? from Malawi. Because Madonna had no problems there, right? According to a source, Demi and Ashton are seriously considering it:
Demi Moore and her husband Aston Kutcher may really have something to Tweet about soon - a baby! After years of trying to conceive, Demi and Ashton are now considering adoption, and their good pal Madonna has been encouraging them to follow her lead and go to Malawi, where her children David and Mercy are from.
?Madonna has apparently been trying to get Demi and Ashton to adopt ever since her son David. She has been very enthusiastic about it,? the couple?s friend reveals.
?They weren?t ready back then, but now they?re moving in that direction.?
Demi, 46, has raised three daughters with ex-husband Bruce Willis, but Aston, 31, has been a very involved step dad.
?There is not a human being I could love more than those girls and their mom,? Ashton has said. ?If I had a daughter that was of my blood, I wouldn?t love that child any more.?
[From In Touch Weekly, print edition, July 13 2009]
Meh. I?d buy that Madonna is trying to convince Demi and Ashton to adopt in general, but not from Malawi. Malawi is Madonna?s ?thing? and I doubt she wants anyone stepping on her sketchy turf. But I could be wrong? maybe Madonna is so delusional that she thinks if Demi and Ashton go down to Malawi and try to ?adopt? a child in a country with a non-existent foreign adoption system that somehow Madge will have some kind of vindication? Did that make any kind of sense? Yeah, neither does this report.

Twitter, the 140 character limit social networking site, is teaming with a production company to try and create a new reality show that features people interacting with celebrities though their service. It would involve some kind of competition over celebrities, probably to see who can get a response from a celebrity the fastest:
Twitter, the Web site that asks what everybody’s doing, says it wants to be doing a TV series.
The social-networking service said Monday it has teamed with Reveille productions and Brillstein Entertainment Partners to develop an unscripted series based on the site, which invites 140-character postings from members around the world.
The show would harness Twitter to put players on the trail of celebrities in an interactive, competitive format.
The producers call their proposed series the first to bring the immediacy of Twitter to the TV screen.
”Twitter is transforming the way people communicate, especially celebrities and their fans,” said Reveille managing director Howard T. Owens, who expects the new project to ”unlock Twitter’s potential on TV.”
No further details were made available on the show’s format or when it might hit the air.
[From The NY Times]
I’ve been using Twitter more lately and it can be a lot of fun. I think that it gives the illusion of letting us get in contact with celebrities, without really offering that. I’ll explain - once in a while, a celebrity will respond to a particular person. If you look to see how many responses a celebrity gets on Twitter, though, there are thousands. Some of the celebrities seem to skim through them, but the chances that they’ll remember or actually respond to you are very low.
If you’re not familiar with Twitter, here’s a quick explanation of how it works - you can send a “direct message,” which is like an internal e-mail, to someone only if they’re also your friend, which in a celebrity’s case won’t happen. They have tens of thousands of followers and have only “friended” a few hundred people in the best cases, probably so they can actually read through the tweets. You can send an @response to anyone on Twitter, but if you look at @responses a celebrity gets there are way too many, and they come in too fast, for the celebrities to go through them all - especially when they’re online and tweeting. Again, they might read the responses if they’re on, but they probably won’t respond to you - they just don’t have the time.
Here are some examples
Responses to Kirstie Alley
Responses to Samantha Ronson
Responses to Ashton Kutcher
Responses to Demi Moore
It does happen, though. One guy posted a sarcastic story calling out Ashton Kutcher for not responding to his tweet, and Ashton left him a voicemail message apologizing. The blogger just happened to be the co-founder of the popular website Buzzfeed, which is likely why Ashton was so apologetic. Kirstie Alley also once called out Geno of Geno’s World for saying something rude to her. Many celebrities respond to some fans on Twitter but it’s understandably hard to get their attention.
The two most influential and prolific celebrity Twitterers, married couple Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, both say that they are against this planned reality show and won’t participate in it. If it goes through, they plan to quit the service. They’re responding to a now-deleted article, though, that seemed to misinterpret the planned show. Here are some of their tweets on the matter, in which they link to that story which is no longer available. Ashton Kutcher is on Twitter as “aplusk” while Demi Moore is “mrskutcher.” These tweets are in reverse order:

The Twitter people should have contacted Ashton, Demi and some of the other Twittering celebrities before making the announcement for this show. Ashton and Demi were both linking to a story on the Examiner’s website by author Liz Barrett which has been taken down. The Examiner accepts submissions from anyone and the title of the now-removed story was “Look Out, Ashton Kutcher wants to track celebrities on new reality TV show.” That’s not the case as Ashton isn’t involved with the show. It also sounds like this one author took it a step further and decided to call whatever competitions the show was planning “stalking.” Maybe Ashton and Demi will get on board with some reassurance from Twitter that there will be no exploitation or stalking involved. Hopefully the Twitter people are friends of Ashton and Demi on the service, because they have little chance of getting in touch with them through Twitter.

Celebrity Twitter Overkill video by Current.tv
Our friends at PopEater have a feature called “Celebrity Tweets You May Have Missed,” and we thought we might do a similar feature occasionally. There were some interesting Tweets last night from the more connected celebrities. We have some below, with each individual tweet in reverse order so that they make more sense. I’m kind of divided on this issue and am sometimes amused and sometimes bored by Twitter. Are the celebrities tweeting too much or is it all in good fun?

Ashton Kutcher has been in a race against CNN to see who would be the first to get 1 million followers on Twitter. Apparently this is very, very important news because CNN has been talking about it constantly. And not just on their website ? on live T.V. too. It was something like, ?Barack Obama blah blah blah Twitter blah blah blah Hillary Clinton blah blah Twitter blah in these tough economic times blah Twitter blah blah.? That is a direct quote; I checked CNN?s transcripts. So you can guess how bummed the network had to be when they ended up losing to Kutcher last night. Who was joined in his online celebration by wife Demi Moore and for some unknown reason Soleil Moon Frye and P. Diddy via phone. Alright.
Ashton Kutcher has become the first member of Twitter to have over one million followers. Surrounded by his wife, Demi Moore , Soleil Moon Frye and Sean “Diddy” Combs supporting him via phone, the star officially crossed the one million mark, beating out rival CNN Breaking News shortly after 11 PM Pacific time. “Where’s the champagne, where’s the champagne,” Ashton said on his Ustream.TV web feed just a short while before reaching his goal. “We’ve gotta pop the cork on this folks.”
CNN, which lost by less than 1,200 followers, quickly congratulated the star. “Congrats @aplusk. Ashton Kutcher is the first twitter account to reach 1MM followers,” someone wrote on their Twitter account page. The race was a tight one with only a handful of followers separating the two Tweeters as their numbers inched closer to one million on Thursday evening. “Tell me this isn’t better than watching tv,” Ashton Tweeted on Thursday, just a few hours before he crossed the finish line. “We get to participate in the entertainment. I feel like I’m directing an episode of punk’d”
Ashton was in the lead for most of the day, but just before 10 PM local time, CNN took over the top spot, leaving the actor to Tweet about the news network’s on-air push for more followers. “Why R they pushing so hard if this doesn’t mean anything? It’s a changing of the guard. the old way the new way,” he wrote, as his followers reported back that CNN was using their live broadcast to seek out new followers.
Ashton promised if he became the first user to reach 1 million followers on Twitter, he would buy 10,000 mosquito nets, a pledge he repeated on Thursday afternoon. “I’m calling to have a check made out for $100,000 to the Malaria No More Fund,” he wrote.
[From OMG]
Well I?m glad something good came out of this little competition. I don?t really like to support anything Ashton Kutcher does because he?s the most inane, moronic, obnoxious guy on the planet. Who really thinks it?s useful to post pictures of Demi?s butt onto his Twitter. Thanks. BUT, even my grouchy self can?t deny that 10,000 malaria nets are obviously a good thing. So congrats to Ashton. Hopefully now CNN can get back to repeating the phrase, ?In these tough economic times,? every three minutes, instead of alternating it with Twitter talk.

Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl are currently filming a scene for their upcoming movie, “Five Killers,” in St. Barts. Which is lucky for us, since Ashton has to do a lot of shooting without his shirt on. According to IMDB, the film is about a ?vacationing woman [who] meets her ideal man, leading to a swift marriage. Back at home, however, their idyllic life is upset when they discover their neighbors could be assassins who have been contracted to kill the couple.? So you know, one of those ?it could happen to anyone? type of films. Ashton plays a retired hit man ? again, who amongst us hasn?t accidentally dated one of those? Nonetheless, the important thing is that he has to run around without his shirt on? and carrying flippers. Hotness.
Lest you worry that Kutcher might be one of those method actors who gets way too into his role, his Twitter page will help you rest assured. It?s filled with his latest deep thoughts. A recent smattering:
?I’ve met blind people and deaf people. Why haven’t I ever met someone who’s smelling impaired??
?Check I just found out our sound guy is smelling impaired. Maybe that’s why he hears so well. I’m gonna fart next 2 him 4 confirmation.?
[From Twitter]
I just had to stick those in there because they?re juvenile but funny in a lame way. Ashton is actually using his Twitter for some good. April 25th is World Malaria Day, for which he?s become the unofficial spokesman. Ashton is getting a jump start on things and using his Twitter account to send out all sort of Tweets linking to Malaria No More, an organization that donates mosquito nets to those who cannot afford them in African countries.
?Teaming up w/ @kevinrose 2make malaria extinct. lets rally the twit troops on World Malaria Day (4/25)?
?why focus on malaria? The cure exists! 10$ saves a life. I know we can do this.?
?If we all rally we can make malaria a thing 4 history books that we all say, ?I can’t believe people use to die from that.??
?Every 30 seconds a child dies from Malaria. Nets save lives. Support World Malaria Day?
[From Twitter]
So juvenile jokes about farts aside, Twitter can actually do some good. And on a related note, you can purchase and donate a malaria net for only $10. I would not have known that without Ashton Kutcher. So he?s pretty to look at and does good deeds.

| Demi Moore's daughters mortified by Ashton Kutcher's online antics | Added 15 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Demi Moore’s teenage daughters are said to be fed up with the foolish, immature way their mom and her young husband are carrying on online. Moore and Kutcher sometimes twitter back and forth, giving fans a stream of texts on their privileged lives, gripes and intimate chat. This is said to be embarrassing for Moore’s three daughters, and the tipping point came when Kutcher twittered a cellphone pic of Moore’s butt in a bikini when she was bending over ironing for him. Rumer, 20, Scout, 17, and Tallulah, 15, had a talk with their mom and step dad and told them to cool it.
Demi’s girls… staged a family intervention after their stepdad posted a picture on the social networking site Twitter of their 46-year-old mom bending over in a bikini…
And an insider revealed: “Seeing their mom and stepdad act like teenagers makes the girls cringe! They think their online exchanges are embarrassing and uncool…”
The last straw for Demi’s daughters - Rumer, Scout and Tallulah - was Ashton’s candid snap of the “Striptease” star’s bottom.
“The girls freaked out when they saw Demi’s butt in the air,” revealed the insider. “They sat Demi and Ashton down and told them they needed to curb their immature behavior.
“Demi said it was just innocent fun, but Rumer shook her head in frustration and said, ‘Grow up, Mom!’”
[From The National Enquirer, print edition, April 16, 2009]
This could be true because I checked out Moore and Kutcher’s Twitter accounts and they seem to be focusing on other things rather than each other at this point. That may be because they’re both in France while Kutcher is filming Five Killers and don’t have the need to keep in touch online when they’re together. If anything their Twitter texts show that they don’t have issues in their relationship and are madly in love with each other. You can see how that kind of modern PDA by their parents would embarrass any teenager.

Are Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher no longer practacing Kabbalah? Actually just the opposite, the two were celebrating Purim which is like the Jewish version of Halloween. Seriously how much fun do the Mr & Mrs look like they are having dressed as a priest and nun?
BTW I wonder if Demi used that ruler on Ashton later on?
