Drew Barrymore is the cover girl for the August issue of Elle Magazine (American). The cover shoot is pretty, but it brings to mind a question I always regarding Drew - how do you prefer your Drew? Do you like her when she?s trying to sexy and sultry, do you like her when she?s trying to be a fashion queen, or do you prefer your Drew down-home, with a flower in her hair, in jeans and a t-shirt. I have to admit, down-home Drew is my favorite. It?s her natural state, and I think she looks so pretty when she?s not all jacked up, trying to be the next Nicole Kidman (thank God). This Elle shoot seems like she?s trying to be a sultry fashionista, and? well, sometimes she falls flat when she?s doing that. I do like the black-and-white shots, though (below).
Anyway, the biggest piece of news from this interview is probably that Drew isn?t totally against plastic surgery. She?s also still trying to explain the nervous breakdown (-ish) that she had after making Grey Gardens. The Elle piece is online, but here you go:
On taking stock of where she is now: ?For three years straight, I?ve been burning the candle at both ends, and as of last December, I just didn?t have anything left. I?ve been so aggressive about living life to the fullest and being plugged into everything, but now I?ve ripped the plug out of the wall and put it on the floor for a while. I?m thinking about the same things as when I was 15, about spirituality and who I am, who I want to be. It?s cocoon, pupa, larva, and f-ck, I?m reborn!?
On the media?s misconceptions of her: ?I make movies. I have a passion. Puppies and daisies don?t accomplish anything. That?s not me at all.?
On being single: ?If you?re 35 and single and it?s a choice, it feels fine. So I didn?t settle with the wrong person yet. Big deal!?
On her upcoming role in Going the Distance: ?I like that it?s not a traditional romantic comedy, with the story line of, ?Oh, I slept with this guy, but when I woke up, I found out he?s the CEO of my company, and we?re going to live happily ever after once we go through all these crazy perils. I talk shit with my girlfriends. And it can get dirty.?
On why she?s not afraid to get older: ?I don?t want to be vain or fearful, and I don?t think I?ll do anything [in terms of plastic surgery], but if I want to do something, I will. From my perspective, there?s no reason to be afraid of aging, because if you age, you?re lucky! The alternative is death.?
On child stardom: ?I was raised in unique and trying environments, but they were also amazing platforms for me to have an extraordinary life. Going through hell as a kid made me sensitive to what others in this world go through too.?

Okay, the quote, ?I make movies. I have a passion. Puppies and daisies don?t accomplish anything. That?s not me at all? is really funny to me, because about five, six years ago, you could only get Drew to talk about puppies and daisies. That notion of her - flower child, animal lover, space cadet - came from some place, you know? It came from Drew. I get that she?s grown as an artist and that?s not her ANYMORE, but she acts like the media just created that image of her out of nowhere.

Enjoying some time in New York City, Drew Barrymore was spotted out and about in the West Village yesterday afternoon (June 29).
The ?Never Been Kissed? actress looked lovely in a flowery dress as she stepped out of a photo studio after a photo shoot with Steven Meisel.
In career news, Drew is gearing up to begin filming ?Whales? in which she plays a tree-hugging Greenpeace activist.
?Whales? is based on a true story about a Los Angeles reporter who endeavors to save three whales with the help of a small town news anchor.

Happier than ever, Drew Barrymore doesn?t feel rushed to start a family and settle down.
The actress loves her work so much, that beginning a family isn?t even on the list right now.
?My films have been my love for so long. It is a little bit hard for me to decide what I want and where the future is going personally,? she said.
Barrymore has had an on and off relationship with Justin Long, but right now for the 35-year-old things couldn?t be better. ?My life is great right now, I feel like I am exactly where I am supposed to be.?
Meanwhile, Barrymore revealed that she finally has love for herself. ?Falling in love with yourself is kind of interesting,? she said earlier this month. ?You put so much stock into other people and then you?re like, ?I?m going to just date me for a while?. I?m just finding a sense of calm. I feel like I?m getting smarter as I get older. But I will always be a hopeless romantic no matter what I learn.?

Getting the week underway, Drew Barrymore was spotted walking around in the SoHo district of New York City this afternoon (April 12).
The "ET" actress looked to be in a rather cheerful mood as she held up a pamphlet while greeting the always-present paparazzi.
The sighting comes just after Miss Barrymore defended her movie "Whip It" from being dubbed a chick flick, as the film made its way into UK theaters this past Tuesday (April 7).
Of having her project called a "girl's only" film, Drew told The Mirror: "It was upsetting to have a studio put out, 'It's a roller derby movie'. I kept encouraging them to market to boys and men, because there was a sports element and when I go to roller derby games there are a lot of males. They love the sexiness, the raunchiness and the fun-ness of these girls beating the crap out of each other."
She added: "I'm a woman so I'm going to make stories about women because I understand them, but I'm also a boy and I can't stand the term 'chick flick'. That turns me off. I'm as turned off by that as any guy because I am a 'dude'. I have a very male mentality. The comedy in the film is not little girl comedy. It's boy comedy, it's androgynous comedy."

They?ve been on/off for quite some time, but Drew Barrymore is reportedly once again a single woman after Justin Long ended things between them.
The ?Accepted? stud is said to have grown tired of Drew?s hard partying ways and finally said enough is enough.
An insider told press, ?The split was Justin?s decision and he did it with a heavy heart. The bottom line is Justin was tired of having his heart broken by Drew and her sometimes strange behavior. He said the relationship was slowly killing both of them. Justin finally had enough of Drew?s crazy approach to life.?
?He?s just a lot more normal and laid back than she is. They were torturing each other. Their different personalities screwed things up. This is a case of both hearts being shattered at the same time.?

Enjoying a romantic afternoon outing, Drew Barrymore and Justin Long were spotted hand-in-hand in Los Feliz, California on Monday (January 18).
The “Charlie’s Angels” cutie and her Mac selling beau were both dressed causally, dropping by the local Oaks Gourmet Food and Wine to pick up a few shopping needs.
The sighting comes after a big night the previous evening for Miss Barrymore, as she won Best Actress at the Golden Globes for her work on “Grey Gardens”.
Telling the crowd that she wasn’t prepared to have to take the stage, the 34-year-old said, “The thing I didn’t do getting ready was prepare a speech.”
Miss Barrymore added, “I thought I was going to pass out on stage.” Her support system? “I have a great date. Thank you, Justin (Long).”

Always keeping the world guessing about their relationship status, Drew Barrymore and Justin Long were spotted shopping together at a Whole Foods on Wednesday (January 6).
The on-and-off again couple looked to be having a nice time as they were seen holding hands and loading up on groceries.
Free spirited Drew - who was wearing two different colored Converse shoes - stopped to pet a resting dog outside the natural food store before heading to the car.
And looks like both Drew and Justin have a big year up ahead- Drew has four movies in her pipeline so far, while Justin has three.

The “He’s Just Not That Into You” babe looked flirty and fun as she donned a hipster ensemble and went bargain hunting with a friend.
And of course, Drew was more than happy to show off her pooch pal as she made her way around the flea market checking out the hot deals.
Coming up in 2010, Drew’s new flick “Going the Distance” with former flame Justin Long hits theaters and looks to be one of the hottest date movies of the year.

Enjoying a midday outing in the Big Apple, Drew Barrymore was spotted strolling along in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood on Thursday (December 3).
Bundled up for the chilly weather, the “ET” actress was joined by a friend, dropping by La Esquina restaurant for a relaxing lunch outing.
The sighting comes just one day ahead of the release of Drew’s new movie, “Everybody’s Fine,” which co-stars a star cast including Robert DeNiro, Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell.
Directed by Kirk Jones, the comedy/drama finds “a widower who realized his only connection to his family was through his wife - who then sets off on an impromptu road trip to reunite with each of his grown children.”

This report is from Star Magazine, so of course there?s a good possibility it?s crap. But for some reason, I always believe the rumors about Drew Barrymore and Justin Long. I actually like Drew - even though I think she?s more in love with love than with any guy. I think she?s too good for Justin, and I tend to believe some of the rumors out there that he has a wandering eye (and a wandering wang, if you will). Allegedly, they?ve been having problems for a while, but they?ve continued to show up for each other the past few months. He did a guest spot for Drew?s Saturday night Live hosting gig, and he came to her Whip It premiere. But they haven?t been seen out and about in a while, so it seems people are wondering if they?re on a break or something. Star doesn?t claim they?re broken up - only that Drew told him to move back into his place:
It’s back to the bachelor pad for Justin Long! The ?I?m a Mac? guy was booted from girlfriend Drew Barrymore?s four-bedroom Hollywood Hills home in early November, Star has learned.
And though the two are still dating for now, their relationship could be in danger if he doesn?t clean up. ?Drew really had it with being Justin?s babysitter at home,? says a source. ?And it?s not just that he made a mess, it?s his attitude. He gets mopey and is a big-time couch potato. She isn?t thrilled about seeing this side of him.?
Problems surfaced almost as soon as the pair ? who first sparked in summer 2007, split a year later and reconnected last spring ? began living together in August. ?Drew hadn?t figured Justin to be a slob, but he started acting like a frat boy and left his stuff all over the place and never straightened up after himself,? says the source. ?It drove her nuts!?
Drew, 34, finally had enough of the chaotic living situation. But she wasn?t quite ready to call it quits entirely. ?She gently told Justin that things would be better between them if he moved back to his own place,? says the source. ?Then it would be special when they?re together ? they wouldn?t feel like an old married couple.?
The good news? Justin, 31, is trying to change his ways. ?It was really the wake up call he needed,? says the source. ?He knows Drew?s a great girl. He?s going to do everything he can to make her happy.?

As I said, I?ll believe it because I think Justin is really like this. Something about the guy? it?s not even that he seems like a jerk, he just doesn?t seem good enough for Drew. And Drew has pretty lousy taste in men. She likes the man-children. And it?s not cute anymore. There were even reports a few months ago that Drew was trying to make Justin into a ?movie star? - and that boy is not a movie star. It?s said that his career ambivalence is one of the big factors in the growing distance in their relationship. I guess he?s just content to be The Mac Guy forever.
